I really enjoy watching you make all these lovely stitches, thank you. When I sew (I am right-handed), I never quite know whether to go from left to right, right to left, bottom to top or top to bottom. Are there more rules about this? I understood your explanation about making the stitch go back on itself to remain taut, but I think I would have started my crosses on the left and worked right. Is that just personal preference or does it change according to circumstances please?

Thanks for watching. These are great questions. I'm not sure whether there are rules. I think it's often a matter of comfort. Some stitches require both hands, and so it's best to work them in a way that doesn't force you to cross them over each other. Other times, it helps to work the stitch with the needle pointing in the direction of travel. I think mostly though, it's whatever works for you. I'm more of a "principles" person rather than rules - do whatever works for you. As for cross stitch... that's the legacy of my left-handed mum who taught me to sew. I also do blanket stitch backwards! I hope that takes the pressure off. Have fun, play with the stitches and find what works for you. Happy stitching. 🤗

Hadn't seen the Chinese knot before, nor the cast on stitch. Both I would like to try. Thanks.

Cast on stitch is so much fun! I hope you give it a try. Chinese Knot is a tricky one - it takes a bit of practice to get even stitches, but it looks fab when you get it right. Have fun playing. 🤗
