    9:09 why is it meinen vater? Why is it meinen when that is used for dative cases and not accusative

    • @mugridgelanguage
      @mugridgelanguage  2 года назад +1

      It’s “meinen Vater” because that is in fact the accusative form. “meinem” would be the dative. Does that help?

    If @9:36 mir is dativ then why we use den in sie gibt mir den stift??
    We should use according to the table dem

    • @mugridgelanguage
      @mugridgelanguage  3 года назад

      Hi Soni, thanks for your question! "den" is attached to "Stift", which is the accusative noun in this sentence because it is being directly affected by the verb (being given). The dative word is the pronoun "mir", which is the indirect object of the verb as the recipient of the pen. Does that help?

    I think it's insane the way the German language has so many different spellings for the definite and indefinite articles. Also pronouns come into that category. Der Mann, die Frau, das Mädchen. The man, the woman, the girl. What's difficult about that? To me it just makes German conversation more difficult.

    I want you to explain about how can I know when to use Dativ and Akkusativ in sentences in German I always confused and I want to know when to use Den Dem diese and wenn wen wann I'm stuck on these grammar

    • @mugridgelanguage
      @mugridgelanguage  3 года назад +1

      Yes, I'm keen to create more videos on these aspects! In terms of "wenn" and "
      wann", check out my video on how to say if and when in German. "wen" is simply the accusative of "wer" ("whom" as opposed to "who").

    Meine mutter bracht mich in den park.
    Why is it “den park” when “mich” is the one being directly affected the the verb “bracht”?

    • @mugridgelanguage
      @mugridgelanguage  2 года назад

      Because the “den” is accusative for a different reason: because “in” followed by motion always follows with the accusative case

  • @Obelisk57

    The concept of direct and indirect objects in English exists but not apparent because they are the same words.

    • @mugridgelanguage
      @mugridgelanguage  3 года назад

      Indeed! That is often the case! This makes it hard for us as native speakers to discern the difference easily.

    Very nice, but try pronouncing the German "r" correctly.

    • @mugridgelanguage
      @mugridgelanguage  3 года назад +8

      Thanks! I'm not a native German speaker, so of course there will be some remnants of my Australian English accent when I speak. I have had feedback from my German friends in the past and I am aware that the thing I find most difficult to pronounce is the "r", but I do my best and I am not teaching my students that they must have perfect German accents to speak the language.
