Thanks for all of your support!
I think the Bf-109 could be a amazing swappable! It is not that rounded and would therefore be easy to build out or foamboard. Then you could have a awesome dogfight!
+Oskar Rabelius The Bf-109 would be so cool!
+Andrew Cordell or the FW-190d-9
+Oskar Rabelius I was just thinking as well, the Bf/Me-109 (or perhaps the Fw-190). The Me-109 has been known to have some of the same issue with the Spitfire stalling easily and ground handling issues as well.
Either one of the airplanes would be perfect , but more so with the Me-109 being its nemesis in the Battle of Britain. ^_=
Oskar Rabelius Someone of the Flite Test community took FT Spitfire plans and made a BF-109 out of them
Because of the Spitfires tail, it looks like a LF MKIX, so its nemesis would of been FW190s.They could recreate Normandy beaches skies.
The second one blew up. That's what makes flitetest my favourite show.
Peter Baker i have not seen that one yet. was a surprise to me when they showed a clip.
Peter Baker it didnt just blow up... they made it blow up... courtesy of the sweed
I just finished my FT Spitfire and spent some time flying it this morning.
It's a wonderful airplane that flies beautifully.
GREAT JOB DAVID!
So, I've built two FT Spitfires this year - and have just been trying my first bout of aerobatics. What a great little warbird!
2:25 "because the second one he blew up" "OH!" then it just goes right back to normal talking. Damn flite test, your the best, that was hilarious
"John, Paul, George" why is everyone always forgetting Ringo?
I just finished building and test flew my own spitfire! Was my first time flying any RC plane but it was very easy to fly so no problem :) Now I'm hyped, thanks for this great plane
This was the very second video from Flite Test i have watched. Fist one was FT Spitfire Build that popped in as a random autoplay on You Tube. That was 2 years ago and here I am flying addict!
Guys you won't believe:) your videos still make impact in 2020. I am just building the spitfire. My second scratch build and my first was mini Mustang and it flyes like crazy :) I even got a removable wing to it :D
I present, drum role please, the FT Liner. Its a swappable liner. I trust David and Peter on the design. Good luck and I hope it will be awesome.
That laugh at the end was so funny, I think I have to get a new ringtone..
I decided to throw one of these together for the Chandler Bowl Games last weekend. I scratch built it from dollar tree black adams foam board as thats all they had, and left the turtle deck off. I built it fairly heavy as it was intended for the combat portion of the fly in. This included a lot of extra hot glue, packaging tape, and some strategically placed popsicle sticks and bamboo skewers for support. I pulled the power system out of an old crashed E-Flite Mini Ultra Stick, did a hack job of the build, and was plesently surprised by how smooth this aircraft flew! I also didnt bother making any adjustments to the throws, which meant I was stuck with the throws and settings from my Funtana. First flight was slightly squirelly due to the massive throw rates and added power, but once I got the thumbs settled down this thing flew like a dream up until the point of destruction during combat. I am already getting the plans cut out to put another one together this weekend, and also plan on building a couple more of your models. these are great and cheap fun and I hope y'all keep up the great plans!
@ 6:50 anyone else notice Davids socks matched his shirt. HAHAHAHA
awesome build and well done to Josh Scott, nice flying and right on the money a slower paced plane, no tip stall awesome intro to war birds. Nice pickup.
The next member of the swappable warbirds series should be an F4U Corsair!
David is such a wizard! His Viggen is almost spooky how it can hover but also be really fast while also being easy to fly and here he does another famously cranky plane and tames it into a purring pussycat.
That looked like a fun flying session! Glad to see another generation of RC pilots keeping this wonderful hobby going.
Another win for the Flite Test Team. Thanks for all you guys do. David is brilliant, and working on my tri-copter is a lot of fun.
Oh yes! Gotta love the spitfire..it was on BBC two days ago celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters :) Looked amazing in the air and the pilot was saying allot of nice things about it. great video guys
I'm speechless.... that warbird is freakin' awesome and can't wait to build one
Have a great idea for swappable # 11 keeping with war birds .. A P-51 Mustang would be nice ... Can't wait for the build plans on the Spitfire.. I have so many swappables built just lack funds for the electronics but when ever I get the fund I will be well prepared for flying and video them .. Keep up the good work guys ...
I put one of those beauty’s on my wishlist for Christmas. Can’t wait
Thank you guys sooooo much!!! I downloaded the plans, built it, and today was my maiden flight!!! I really love that plane.!!! :D
I definitely have to build one! It looks awesome! I just can imagine the fun you guys had back then!
I agree Ethan. They've discussed making a glider swappable before, so you're likely right. I'd love an autogyro because one could then fly two types of flight with only one power-pod! I'll keep my fingers crossed for an autogyro. But I won't hold my breath! As it probably won't happen. ;-)
You just gave David not one, but TWO lighters... I didn't see a fire extinguisher... uh, at least he is outside ;) Good luck!
Great job everyone. I'm lovin it all.
Love the plane, can't wait for the plans to come out.
now all that will be needed is a set of mod plans to make one look like a Messerschmitt Bf 109 for some semi scale air battle re-enactments.
David. Now the typical Swedish question!
What's best SAAB or Volvo?
Chad, gravity is not just a good idea- it's the LAW! Thanks to all of you for making us less self-conscious about our errors.
Warbird series?!?!? Yessss! Bring them on. It was the WIldcat Episode that hooked me. I would so like to see a Wildcat or Corsair scratch build.
you guys are awesome, I had a glider when I was younger but I didnt have the skill to fly it at the time and ended up crashing it, Ive also had a nitro airboat and a couple rc trucks. After watching your videos Im gonna get back into rc planes and get an fpv system. It looks like so much fun! thanks for the inspiration :)
On the field today a guy arrived with the spit ABSOLUTELY BANG ON un painted but looks great in the air TOTALLY IMPRESSED
Brian
London
I also love the idea of bringing everyone out in the field and joining josh scott!!!!
They are not up yet, but on the bottom of the FT Spitfire page they say they will be released later this week, likely when the build video comes out
If only I didn't have a half a dozen other things in line right now, this thing looks great!
I learned nearly everything I know from David and Flitetest, now I can walk into model shops and they don't understand anything on my level haha. They have said no one has ever asked the stuff I have.
Awesome Timing on this Video. Its Thomas' birthday and this is the first video he will watch when he wakes up!! Awesome build BTW!!!! Love Chad's ejectable pod ;)
Wow guys! that looks like a perfect "10".. ( i was skeptical about a swappable dollar tree spitfire being friendly to fly.. looks like you nailed it.)
Great job David.
I agree the airbrush work was excellent. I will be eager to see how that was done including the equipment. I don't own a compressor yet but it would be nice if one will work for painting planes, the house, and filling tires around the house.
oh by the way, don't be ashamed to plug guys! You've done a lot of work and you can proudly present your products
That was crazy when the powerpod fell out. I have built a couple of swappables and I was worried that could happen...I now put a rubber band on the ends of the barbecue skewer and strap the pod in for security you guys should try it.... its simple and works well.
warbirds were intimidating to me aswell, till now, thanks for sharing it with us!
Still my #1 favorite FT plane. Such a joy to fly!
I want to see the airbrush video Chad! Get on it!!! I'd also love to see a build video of a tri or quad using the rotor bones and what you would consider recommended equipment! I really want to build a Tri but I'm a little daunted at picking motors and ESCs and how to program the ESCs.
Josh and Josh, not sure if you guys still read these comments... but with these warbirds collection, please have a look at the Hellcat. Thanks!
YAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!! man, it's been over a year since I first asked for it, but it was SOOOOO worth the wait.
You guys rock. I have a 3 pack and need to build up the guts to build them. Cant wait to see if you guys do any edf ones. Great job!
Although elliptical wings have uniform lift which causes the whole wing to stall at the same time, the Spitfire had built in washout to counter the problem, The onset of buffeting gave warning of oncoming stalls in almost all conditions of flight which allowed pilots plenty of time to avoid disaster. Nevertheless, the undercamber is an elegant solution and the model looks great.
Mitsubishi ZERO!!!!!! Please, please! Build a Mitsu Zero guys. #flitetest #rcplane
You're six years too early
@@Xiphactinus Oh, they finally did? Haha. I for into FPV quads in 2014 and sorta left planes. But I'll be back. :)
@@Xiphactinus Ahhh, I just googled and found the video. Sep 2020 I think. Thanks.
@@DannyCruzCreations I think we all got swept into quads for a bit, but I'm firmly back to fixed wing planes at the moment.
@@Xiphactinus I kinda made a name for myself over in FPV (PinchTune) and therefore I'm trying to keep it up. I still enjoy them after 6 years. I do plan to work on some wings when I have time again.
I would love to see a swappable glider someting like a DLG or a slope soarer!!
You guys are so awesome
Thanks guys! I have been waiting for this video. Can't wait to see the build video on Wednesday. The Spitfire is like the thoroughbred of WWII fighter planes.
This is nice. I like the detail and the full scale look. I enjoy all the others, FT Delta, FT Bloody Wonder, Baby Blender, etc...but the idea of a scale plane is great. Thanks guys. Good work.
This is my favourite plane ever. Slowly trying to build from your plans. :)
Looks great. I've often thought about returning to RC modeling, so this is right up my alley. I might give it a go!
Really wish we on the otherside of the grandpond could get these kits for a good cheap shipping price, but yeah in general gotta love FliteTest, Oh yes 4 months later i finnaly got my Bixler 2 ready for a maiden!
Problems encountered:
1 The wings mounts was not Bicycle carry friendly at all, so changed the bolts from bottom mount, to top mount
2 generally making the plane more sturdy
3 Blew up the motor...replaced with 1800Kv NTM Prodrive
4 Not included any way to make the clevises stay put and not break linkages right away after just a simple bump
5 FPV equipment difficult to install and need to make custom angled camera mounts to mount the FPV camera, so i can still see the nose while flying.
Just cut ur own....depronuk do 10 sheets of 6mm for £28.50. Best place in uk for depron. They do underfloor heating....but realized us rc builders luv da stuff too.
Well in live in the netherlands, and you just cant get depron at all : /
Ahha, wen u said other side o pond i just assumed u ment uk..id still try them tho,i know they have shipped to eu. Wot id do is look for underfloor heating specialists an try them might have to buy a full box o 50....but thats like a year of building supplies. Also try if u can find dow corning blue core sumtimes called fanfold. Imposible to find here tho....if your still stuck try epp foam. Also try the dutch rcfoamfighter utube channel..they get thers sum where, might point u in right direction.
In side note, lol i ride my bike to fly too,not easy is it. Was 1 reason i moved on to flying wings. Lot easier to ride with. Good luck with the foam search. If i find any where that ships too eu for a gud price ill let u know bud.
Has anyone noticed that in their intro, there has always been a Supermarine Spitfire? How fitting!
That's a hard one to answer Austin, because it depends on where you buy your parts. You could buy a $70 HobbyKing Orange Tx, or you could spend a few hundred on a Spektrum/Futaba/JR/Aurora9. You could buy budget electronics, or you could go crazy with high end motors, esc, etc.
They should have the build video out today, with an article on the FliteTest web page listing all the recommended components
Wow, that airframe has a nice glide slope, and the dihedral seemed to help.
Please do a P40 Warhawk for all the WWII fans out there!!!
I designed one, if you're still looking! www.flitetest.com/articles/swappable-p-40-warhawk
Mr. Gilly who was ever a fan about the war. I like history about he war. But I don't like the war starting
They're already up! as well as the speed build kit :)
I love/miss these older videos. I still love Flite Test, but I miss the way the videos "felt" during these earlier years.
just got my kit , Thanks guys !!! it's gonna be awesome.
Lancaster Bomber?
The're gonna make a one off massive foamboard Lancaster for flitefest.
Ft spruce goose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!l
Lancaster and B-17!
The spitfire was actually known for stalling very well. It's cos an elliptical wing produces a fairly uniform amount of lift .(don't ask for any further explanations plz I only studied basic aerodynamics.) It is basically the best wing shape for sub sonic aircraft, it produces a huge bow wave when it's close to the speed of sound and in fact the l8er spit Mks were susceptible to high speed stalls in a dive. I'd love it if u guys built ether a thermal glider or something with gull wings!
You need to offer roundel stickers to go with the Spitfire!
A vacuum-formed canopy would be nice too.
Could you guys build a swappable space shuttle? I think that would be rad. Great job guys! I have the Baby Blender and the FT Cruiser. Awesome planes to build and fly!
Awesome guys!...great design David...can't wait to build one
Great skills at making the Spitfire! Can't believe you're still shying away from doing an in flight package exchange! Come on you guys, you got a blender in the air and a brick to fly, sure you can do a package exchange! I challenge you!!
nice,I think this will be my first swappable. I love it!
It looks great! Can't wait for the build video. I second the comment about the F4-U. You should definitely make one! Keep it up.
GREAT job!! I was waiting for this one. Will definitely be building as soon as plans become available. To push back on comments below: I LOVE that you guys are creating, advertising and making money off these great ideas (much better than promoting 3rd party products like hobbyking with questionable quality). I also absolutely love the swappable idea - makes for much more fun for those of us with smaller budgets, and makes crashing much less painful. Godspeed Flitetest!!
What departs David's airplane at 9:35ish? Something comes off during his turn, perhaps a decal or piece of the paper from the foam? Great design, as always. Love everything about FliteTest and hope it works out well for everyone there! David... you must stay!
WHOOOO!! Just what I needed to distract me away from revision!
josh scott flew the plane really well :) good job!
Classic lines. They look just great in the air.
You guys are just unreal! I soooo want this kit!
great flying josh scott !!!! cant wait to get my kit
You guys are awesome. I cant wait to build this one.
I wish that it's not so expensive to deliver it to Croatia. Your planes are awesome. Bravo!!!
Please do a P-38
I love the air brush work
man i cant wait to build mine. im super hyped
I recently had to send an art print from UK to Australia. Basically just a piece of paper rolled up inside a cardboard tube. The cheapest price I could get was 34 quid. I don't think the Flitetest guys can do much to get the price down.
Looks more Like an FW190 with a Spitfire wing. So make even more 'SWAPPABLES", and make a Spitfire (Straight back) fuse to go with the wing, and an FW190 wing !! Next ME109 and Hawker Hurricane. Next a Hawker Typhoon and ME163. Then . . . . . . . . . . .
Hey guys!!! I can't understand 100% your videos, I don't speak english, but I enjoyed all them. You are making a fabulous work. Saludos desde la mitad del mundo... your friend Fito Cruz
I definitely want to build one of these when I get into scratch building, but I want to incorporate a clear cockpit and try and get an FPV feed from inside. How awesome would that be!
A mini Spitfire to go along with the Mustang would be sweet!
+YellowBlue RC how much?
+Antek Siedloczek I would suggest nothing less than 50% of original.
AWESOMMEEEE
It flies sooooo scale!
I heard some exponential help make turns more scale.
nah. I like the swappable idea - makes having a greater variety of different planes much cheaper for those of us without unlimited budgets. The power pod usually survives crashes (as I saw here), so even if an airframe is destroyed, it's easy to get right back into the air with another one. Keep up the swappableness.
very nice , would love to see a build video from buying everything you need to building it for very beginners.
can you make a f4 phantom jet or atleast use plane things in the f4 model
with opening Bombay doors and landing in moves the you make the turrets move that all look very cool
5/5/2019 - I finally bought one of these! Can anyone affirm this is 1/10 scale? Callie graphics here I come!
I miss flying this stuff few years ago, perhaps I'll build another one
Here i am, eight years later, building this thing
Idea: Put a parachute inside the power pod of swappables so that if the pod falls out, the parachute deploys and catches the pod. Better yet, have the pod sort of slide in to the fuselage of the plane and secure it with a string tied to the inside of the plane, so as to not need the skewers.
Looking forward to an airbrush episode!!!! Not many around on youtube for foamies
Bf109 please! Would be a perfect addition to the Storch and the Spitfire!
Have to mention, being the wrong side of the pond, that Mitchell's elliptical wing conferred excellent stall characteristics on the Spitfire. Or were you talking about elliptical wing models?
the spruce goose !!!!!! DOOOOO IT lol you know you wanna haha nice job boys! just finishing my first versa wing! they are tight!
How about a swappable F6F, P47 or maybe P51? Great job guys! I just received my speed build yesterday. Can't wait to start the build.
