  • Looking to buy a used Mazda in South Africa? We have nearly 1400 to choose from!

The Mazda CX-30 has arrived on the South African market and is gunning for a slice of the stylish crossover pie, which now that I think about it sounds like a fusion dish at a hipster Asian restaurant.
Anyway, it's a space that VW recently entered with the T-Roc, but the CX-30's pricing is very curious indeed. For instance, you can buy a Mazda CX-5 for less money, a substantially larger and more practical car. You can also buy a Mazda3 for significantly less money.
So, why would you buy a CX-30? Well, we sent our video guy Ciro De Siena to find out.

Like my CX-5 from June 2017 an 175HP AWD Diesel. But i wanna buy an CX-30 with the e-Skyactive Engine 186HP FWD. It only consumes 6L Fuel on 100km. That´s not much because my CX-5 neads 6L Diesel for the same 100km.

Overseas the CX-30 comes with a 2.5 turbo. If they had that drivetrain, or even just a naturally aspirated 2.5 in the CX-30, it would make a lot more sense as a higher-performance niche mini-suv thingy.

When comparing the base Mazda3 to the CX-30 there is also a difference in engine size. Also didn't mention that this CX-30 is on a newer platform than the the CX-5. The new CX-5 will most likely have a big price jump.

My sentiments as well, as I saw this car yesterday. It's e very beautiful and desirable car. Here's my 2c worth as I have driving the CX5 since 2015.
    1. It's a good car for a small and trendy family, but would be impractical for largish family
    2. It's more and more upmarket than the CX5, so it's an ideal car for those coming from a previous Gen Mazda 3 or even 2 wanting to upgrade, but not a previous gen CX5
    3. The current CX5 owner should just rather for the new CX5, which should pretty much be due in a year or two years, as you can see that from this car that it going to be fantastic.
    4. That 2L engine for me, I think it has served its time, been there done done that sort of a things with jacket and everything, Mazda should have experimented with a new small capacity Turbo engine to take game to and way from then competition, it don't see myself with the same lethargic at time engine, no way... This engine will make you hate the cruise control!!!!!
So, all in all, If I crash my current car and still want another Mazda, and I had R465k, definitely wouldn't be another 2.0, or this car with this engine. I'd rather get an 18month old Akera, or a fresh Diesel Active😊

    • @MasterAppels
      @MasterAppels 3 года назад

Yeah, the 2.0 in the CX-5 isn't the liveliest.
My dad went from a Kia Optima to a CX-5 and he says he misses that extra grunt. They should have put a smaller, turbocharged engine in it.

The Mazda 3 Astina is around 480K and you get the same 2L engine in the Astina making it a better buy. Or you can also get a full spec'd out CX3 with safety and luxury for a little bit less.

In general, cars are expensive in South Africa considering the rate of average income increase versus the increase in products in general. And this means one thing, rocketing debt. Anyway, the Best value will be to buy it 2nd hand considering Mazda under average depreciating trend to date. Nice car especially that maroon color

The CX 30/50 models technology are far more advanced than the CX 3 and CX 5 models.
THE CX 30/50s are the future range of modern Mazdas .
You need to understand that the pricing is high because the trim is super luxury,it compares to german cars.
Much better trim than any Toyota crossover.
I had Toyota cars and also a CX3 and they dont come close to the power ,refinement and luxury of the Cx30/50 range.

I get the Pricing everyone is harping on about... but it costs the same as a base Audi Q2 with no extras, which will quickly be over 500k if you start specking it.
    A base 118i is over 550k
    Mitsubishi Eclipse is 450k
The Pricing seems kinda in line with the competition if you ask me.
All this review showed me is that the CX5 is Amazing value for money, get a CX5 at the current pricing while you still can as the new one will be significantly more expensive if the CX-30's price is taken into consideration.
Or maybe I'm just Biased as I have a CX-5 and its is amazing.

Ciro: "...most South Africans opt for practicality over fashion..." Well, I'd say SUVs have become the current fashion statement whether they are coupe-ish or not. Look at tons of parents doing the daily school run in behemoth ladder-frame vehicles instead of a smaller, more efficient vehicle which is better suited for the urban runaround.
However, it must be said the SUVs can generally cope better with SA's deteriorating roads than sedans and hatchbacks can. That is a major factor to consider in an all-rounder-type vehicle.

The review was nice but it failed to take into account the fact that CX5 is dead along with Mazda2 and CX3. We’ll be getting the CX60 as a replacement for the CX5. With pricing for that and the context of Mazda’s future products the CX3O makes a lot more sense. If you want to saddle yourself with the issues that come with CX5’s now 10 year old platform, go ahead. But the new line-up will be pricier and much nicer.

So the CX 30 is cheaper than the CX 5 in most other countries. Mazda SA priced this CX30 high as they want to replace the CX 5 with it because the next CX5 will be priced higher to compete with BMW X1 as it is rumoured to be rear wheel drive. Still... if others could price it cheaper than CX5, SA could have done it. Then again, if this was cheaper, then nobody would buy the Mazda 3 as the 3 Active is manual with a 1.5l. Perhaps they had to price the CX30 high otherwise they had to decrease the price of the Mazda.
I don't see Mazda surviving in this Country given that their best seller, CX5, will be priced higher as soon as the new one launches.
I like the new Mazdas but they use old tech engines for premium pricing..

Seriously what is this car trying to be? Hey, we'll make another SUV but we'll try design it so it's super low to the ground....almost like a hatchback but not. I mean, watching the start of this review is really offputting. Look how high that lowest part of the window is! It's up to his nose! I mean, that door is huge but the roof is trying so hard to give it a lower look that the glass area is tiny and then you have all this huge door below it. Yeah, I really feel like I'm riding in a sports car with such narrow windows. Thanks Mazda, you fooled me. When will this onslaught of SUVs and crossovers end? They are so damn boring looking.

This is a terrible review. We still don't know much about the engine and nothing about the gearbox. Surely there is more to a review than the car's price?

To be fair, the engine is very old, well over 10 years old, in many previous reviews it's mentioned, the engines are not really efficient and have real power issues up in Gauteng, I guess that is why it was not mentioned, but I do agree with you, the competition listed is also not really where this car sits, a few videos I have watched of compact crossovers and none of cars.co.za have mentioned the Suzuki Vitara Turbo, its such a good contender and Suzuki is smashing thier sales records month after month with it, yet they don't mention it...
