In the late 1930s, IWC tried to develop further its business in various markets. During that time a wholesaler from Lisbon, Portugal, believed to be Messrs. Rodrigues and Antonio Teixera, approached IWC. The demand of the Portuguese market was not only for pocket watches and women’s dress watches, but also for men’s wristwatches with the precision of marine chronometers. At that time, IWC was able to offer their customers from Portugal a watch that completely fulfilled that latter request.
Best review video of this watch on RUclips with regard to the beautiful close-ups of the dial and movement. Just got this watch in 2024 with the silver dial and rose gold hands and numbering. I have the black alligator leather strap, but I really prefer it with the dark blue rubber strap. My perspective as a newcomer to the watch world: I really like the aesthetics of this watch. I have a smaller wrist, but I was surprised this watch looked so good on my wrist. I plan to wear it as a casual dress watch.
This new Portugieser is beautiful. I’m in the market for a new, sporty chronograph, and IWC and JLC are at the top of the list. I look forward to seeing this in person.
Man we are in the same boat. I was going to buy the new IWC Chrono on a SS bracelet just to have the versatility...then JLC announced the Polaris Mariner. I may save up for a Memovox Mariner instead now. That way h is absolutely gorgeous and a true dive watch. Very sporty bracelet with microadjusts on each side too.
@@sergeyzerkin8029 absolutely 2 different watches. But seeing as how I presently don't own a diver, but I already own a IWC Big Pilot, a JLC Reverso Duoface (which is a nicer dress watch IMHO), and a Grand Seiko SBGH269 (Autumn), I could absolutely see myself getting the Polaris Memovox Mariner (at a heavy discount through my AD) in about a year or so. Reason being, the movement is absolutely gorgeous to behold. Being able to see the alarm is the treat. And I love that classic school bell sound. Its actually the boxed crystal that adds the extra thickness and less the case than I expected. Tried it on at a boutique and not only was it comfortable, but wore better than my Big Pilot which is the same thickness, but didn't seem like it because the case itself is actually slightly smaller due to the boxed crystal making up the thickness difference (and the 42mm diameter vs the 46mm of the Big Pilot). Of course the standard non-alarm version may also fill a role too and its about as thick as a Seamaster divers 300. Still has a nice looking movement, 70hr power reserve and the absence of what I will recognize as merely an unnecessary novelty...but hey, this is watch collecting, so novelties are welcomed as far as I'm concerned! I had a Speedmaster Moonwatch, but traded it in earlier this year and got on the list for the Ed White. So that fills my chronograph needs near term. When I come back to the Portugieser, it will likely be the new gorgeous 40mm small seconds! Make no mistake though, that green dial IWC chrono is very tempting to me, especially if I can get it on bracelet...
@@Whiskey_Tengu yeah if you feel it ... like I don’t like that the window is cut off for the date .. I would much prefer it to be a beautiful 3 and the date bellow or above or not at all there ... and this iwc .. is nice but it doesn’t have the class that jlc chronograph sector dial had ... or maybe something like senator excellence Arabic numerals ... but see that’s the problem with dress watches ... if you want something nice you need to spend 18 k euro on a Lange 1815 or 60 k euro on patek chrono ... the sbgk007 is nice .. oh and what I hate about jlc all watches that their hands are never golden but rhodium plated ... for this price it’s a joke
Glad to find a review of this, thinking about picking up the new green-dial version of this. Looks like they’ve really done an equally beautiful dial in that color.
Love the brand. Used to have a IWC pilot watch which was limited edition. Enjoyed it but sold it to find something else which I regret. However, if I ever was to add another IWC to my collection, it will be the big pilot. I do like the Aquatimer but probably will not get one. Nice brand.

30 meters so that you don’t have to babysit this watch ? Haha joking or what ? 30 meters means you have to be even careful when watching the hands or out in the rain

Well in a way yes. It's not tied to the country but from where those two guys came from. If they were from Spain maybe it would be called " IWC Spaniard". Maybe🤔
What is wrong with IWC? Why arent their watches more water-resistant? everybody else does 100 meters by now. They're still stuck in the past peddling watches that cant be taken swimming! WTF?!
Nobody goes swimming with this type of watch. If water resistance is your thing go buy a Rolex James Cameron DeepSea. Then you can swim down to the bottom of the ocean. If you’re a fish.
I cannot emphasize enough the error all "specialists" make praising a company that produces normal looking chronographs powered by a common ETA 7750 caliber!
