Once you know how to not Liz Truss your budget, playing heavily in debt is optimal. You can outpace interest repayment with economic growth while raising the debt ceiling pretty much indefinitely. A budget surplus is generally a bad thing as you're taking money out of the economy that could be used to grow. What I'm trying to say is Paradox has created the perfect 2008 financial crash simulator. Looking forward to Hearts of Iron 5 where appeasing Hitler is in fact the universally correct choice.

Thanks Dave, I seriously needed this because I had no idea of how to work with the market, economy and I always ended up with credit instead of saving gold reserves I thought if the line was on the right, was a good signal, oh man how I was wrong
Having a manageable amount of debt is good. The owners of productive buildings are the people who you are borrowing from, therefore they get paid interest. It allows your GDP to go up and drives demand up due to an increased standard of living. Having a gold reserve is only useful it you plan to fight a war which will damage your economy.
If at the start of the game you expel diplomats from finland and declare a switch puppets war, then you can breeze through finland because russia doesn't actually send any troops to help them. Then it's all about getting high relations with denmark to form scandinavia
Yep this works but you will need to annex Finland because they will not be formed in Scandinavia even as your puppet because their primary culture is Finnish which does not count as a Scandinavian country
Huh. Every time I've tried "Transfer Subject" on Finland playing as Sweden, the Russians have sent troops. As another way to grab Denmark, do an instant Conquer State play on Zealand, followed by puppeting Denmark as soon as you can.
@@Smeghead76 the trick is to not push near Russia territory - just grab enough of Finland (e.g naval invade their capital) and then defend, Russia usually won’t defend Finland’s land but if you get near their border they’ll then send their army
@@Ziche10 Given how... unpredictable the AI can be in this game, I wouldn't be too sure of that. For example, Korea has just launched a diplomatic play against me to conquer Norway and parts of Denmark _for some reason_ and I think I would be justified in using console commands to force them to peace out of that.
I think a little bit of advice on waging war would be welcomed. To be more precise: DO NOT change modes on your barracks or conscription centres before declaring a war or during war time, even if better troops become availeble. If you do, your troops will receive a massive penalty to attack and defense, that lasts a year. Also, when troops deploy on a front, not all of them will actualy be used in battle. You will see a lot of time, that even thou there are huge numbers deployed, the actual battle will be between 2 small forces. Wich is why, modifiers to make your troops better, are more valuable than fielding more troops.
Since the debuff was reduced in intensity in the new patch I have to disagree, it's almost always better to upgrade if you have the supplies and it's not a late game mil tech
I don't like wars, so in many of my Sweden runs I just raise relations with Denmark high enough so that they support Sweden forming Scandanavia. If you don't switch off Monarchy, Norway will remain in the personal union so they will support you 100%. I would recommend also improving relations with Schleswig and Holstein (optional) if you want them as well. If it so happens that Denmark doesn't like Sweden, I just wait until Denmark change their mind. This rarely happens for me but it does happen.
*Prioritize railroads over ports, unless you need more conveys to increase export/import. Focussing ALL of your industries in your capital, with a encourage manufacturing industries and greener gras campaign is the best way to get tons of people working in factories. All pops are in every interest group, its just that say not many farmers are part of the industrialists. Stuff like steel can be produced, if you can export it, you don't directly need to use it yourself. Also, the price of ANY good depends SOLELY on Supply/Demand, the price of MAKING that good is dependent on the costs of labour and resources needed to produce. If something is unproductive, the factory will lose workers and the same % of output, thus creating a new balance for the price because supply/demand has changed.
Prioritize construction sites in your capital (your industrial hub usually) or your industrial/resource/farming hub, for that construction bonus. Some techs increase output, some techs decrease workers needed to get the same output, making your factories more profitable. Enacting government reforms does not make people happy/piss people off, just their interest group approval, which fades over time. Pre-emptively build your infrastructure before your market access goes below 100%, low market access makes buy/sell orders of goods in the region change, basically allowing your pops/industries to import and export a smaller % of the goods, thus lowering profitability and standard of living.
But dave you didn't even tell us the most important part of declared interests, in that you need to declare an interest in the region in order to trade with the nations that have a market in that region.
does anyone know why my game is different to his? for example, when I bring in the inteligencia like he did in the video, my government becomes completely unstable and goes into revolution when I try to pass public schools. Was there an update that changed Sweden? Or is it just random everytime. Im new to the game and followed everything dave has done.
Political parties can have different law preferences from run to run as well as them being able to change over time mostly based on decisions that you make or laws that you pass. It's also possible Dave just waited longer to pass the law so that the political party that revolted for you was more chill for him.
I like the strategy of immediate invasion of Sweden to return all states. Specifically with this guide: ruclips.net/video/aujKpqje8DM/видео.html but this guide is a good pair for that to help the more economic side. Also it’s best to reform the government with the Intelligentsia and Industrialists after your mind dies and your heir takes control due to his interest group. Before governmental reform just focus on getting colonial exploitation and other military aligned laws.
lmao i didn't realise i got to the video 19 seconds after it went public haha! Also... music at the 6 minute mark starts to get a bit funky... I think i'm hearing overlapping soundtracks
This must have taken awhile to get out with the holidays cause its an older version, in this version you cant just put the intelligentsia in because your legitimacy will make it impossible to pass laws
