I have been there three times and it has changed my life. I am. Now 86 and I am so sad that I will not be able to make another visit but they are deep in my heart and I can remember the best by sending a quarterly donation.

Never having been to the Monastery your video brought me back nearly 50 years to the mid-1970s when I attended the College of Santa Fe and spent two years attending Imaculate Heart of Mary Seminary studying for the archdiocese of Santa Fe and then attended Mount Angel Seminary for a year before returning to New Mexico. My life has changed over the years but my time then was beautiful. God bless all of you.

Oh, sweet Mother and Jesus, may we each get a chance to visit and support these monasteries in our lifetime. The monks will be praying for us also.

I did a two week retreat at Christ in the Desert in 2016. I fell in love with Benedictine Spirituality and the life of a monk. If I were not married, I would have signed up..

I made a week long retreat here along with a colleague in winter sometime around 1989 or 1990. I remember that it snowed one night and I could not work the wood burning stove in my room to keep me warm all night. I was either too hot or too cold. I remember praying with the monks those early hours of the Office, walking through several inches of snow from the guesthouse. They would switch from a hymnal to what I thought was a book of readings. I remember the chapel as seen in this video but not much else of the grounds. I helped one of the monks in a wood shop one day. It was a week very well spent.

    Aramaic Bible in Plain English
1Then Yeshua spoke with the crowds and with his disciples: 2And he said to them, "The Scribes and the Pharisees have sat on the throne of Moses." 3Everything therefore that they will tell you to observe*, observe* and do*, but you should not do according to their works, for they are saying, and they are not doing. 4And they bind heavy burdens and place them on the shoulders of men, but they are not willing to touch them with their fingers. 5And they do all their works to be seen by the children of men, for they enlarge their phylacteries and they extend the blue fringes of their robes. 6And they love the first class places at feasts and first class seats in the synagogues 7And greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called, "Rabbi"*, by the people. 8But you shall not be called "Rabbi", for One is your Rabbi*, but you are all brothers. 9And you should not call yourselves "Father", in the earth, for one is your Father who is in Heaven. 10And you will not be called Leaders, because one is your Leader, The Messiah. 11But he who is great among you will be a servant to you. 12Whoever will exalt himself will be humbled and whoever will humble himself will be exalted.
13Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees, impostors, who consume the houses of widows with offerings for your making of long prayers! Because of this you will receive greater judgment.* 14Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees, impostors, for you shut the Kingdom of Heaven before the children of men, for you are not entering, and those who are entering you do not permit to enter!
15Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees, impostors! For you travel around sea and land to make one convert, and when it has happened, you make him doubly the son of Gehenna* that you are!
16Woe to you blind guides, for you say, 'Whoever swears by The Temple, it is nothing', but 'Whoever swears by the gold of The Temple is liable!' 17Fools and blind men! Which is greater, gold, or The Temple, which sanctifies the gold? 18And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing', but 'Whoever swears by the offering upon it, he is liable.' 19Fools and blind men! Which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? 20Whoever swears therefore by the altar swears by it and by everything that is upon it. 21And whoever swears by The Temple swears by it and by The One dwelling in it. 22And whoever swears by Heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.
23Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees, impostors, for you tithe mint and dill and cummin and you forsake the weighty things of the law: Justice, mercy and faith! It is necessary for you to do these things and you should not forsake them. 24Blind guides who strain out gnats and swallow camels!
25Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees, impostors, who wash the outside of the cup and of the dish, but within are full of plunder and evil*! 26Blind Pharisees, wash first the inside of the cup and dish that their outside may also be clean.
27Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees, impostors, who are like white tombs, which from the outside appear lovely, but from within are full of the bones of the dead and all corruption! 28So also you from the outside appear to the children of men as righteous, and from within are filled with evil and hypocrisy.
29Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees, impostors, who build the tombs of The Prophets and adorn the tombs of the righteous! 30And you say, 'If we had been in the days of our forefathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of The Prophets.' 31Therefore you testify against yourselves that you are the children of those who murdered The Prophets. 32So fulfill the standard of your forefathers. 33Snakes! Offspring of vipers! How will you escape from the judgment of Gehenna?
34Because of this behold, I am sending to you Prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will murder and you will crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and you will persecute them from city to city 35So that all the blood of the righteous may come upon you that has been shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel, even unto the blood of Zakharia the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered in the midst of The Temple and the altar. 36Amen, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.
37Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that murdered The Prophets and stoned those who were sent to it! How many times have I desired to gather your children, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing! 38Behold, your house is left to you desolate!* 39For I say to you that you will not see me from now on, until you will say, 'Blessed is he who has come in the name of THE LORD JEHOVAH.'"

I love the idea of monks in monasteries and hermits in their seclusion. I hope and pray that they are realizing their love for Jesus, and His for them-up close and personal. The custom of linking the word "Christ" to the Name of Jesus, which was probably necessary early on in the Church's life, bothers me. It somehow makes Jesus a Person of the past, removed from the present. Wherever "Christ" pops up in religious and literature, I substitute the Name of Jesus. Presence!

Be not fooled: I was a guest there many times, and they were not nice and very manipulative. Several of the monks spoke to us about how they project goodness, but they are wolves in sheep’s clothing.

@@curtisgrindahl446 I understand, but all tge life principles we need for our earthly journey as well as a way to the heavens is given to us by Christ our Lord Himself. It's a shame that Br. Christian Leecy was included in this video. As a former monk, I found him both manipulative and at times mean to guests. He was very unpleasant to most of the brothers. He lost touch with compassion for the guests, so his presence in this video is odd....
