I have fond memories of Mac Tonight. He was on while I was in college, up late. I always wondered why McDonald's dropped such an iconic character. They need to bring it BACK!

I remember it fondly too, but my generation often loved his other persona, “Moon Man” lets just say he had a career as a rapper.
With McDonalds trying to rebrand itself as a sleeker coffee joint for adults, now would actually be a great time to bring Mac Tonight commercials back.

They definitely need to bring him back, but I also want the old McDonald's back with it.
McDonald’s is losing steam. They became too bland and depressing. If they want to make easy cash, they NEED to bring back 80’s/90’s nostalgia for a while, not a week or two special, I’m talking years. Bring back old marketing like Mac Tonight and Ronald and friends. Bring back menu items like fajita flatbread sandwiches, snack wrap, big n tasty, DLT, etc. Then top it off with retro packaging i.e. Big Mac boxes printed to look like the old styrofoam boxes, classic fry boxes, etc. This is the perfect time to pull off retro marketing. My guess is the current marketing team isn’t older than 25. THE TIME IS NOW, MCDONALDS!
Either or create a new character.

The whole country and the Western world in general became too bland and depressing. It's not just a McDonald's thing.
Remember when McDonald's tried to have a dinner theater back in the '80's where singers and musicians would perform for people at night while they ate? Problem is, they were too cheap to PAY any performers and just expected people to perform for the fun of it. Obviously, nobody did so it died a quick death. Whoever came up with THAT idea probably got fired.
It also appear at Hong Kong TV Broadcast almost the same period, many peoples love it very much and we sang the song😂

The big elephant in the room IMO is what ties Mac Tonight to all the other McDonald's characters; personality. Lack of personality seems to be plaguing McDonald's and most other companies in this age of AI and robots and similarly the Mickey D's commercials of late have that certain roboticism to them.
Our appliances have gotten smarter, us on the other hand.

@@jerryeskridge614990s McDonald’s was their best era. The 2000s wraps and Angus 1/3 pounders were good but other than that they really didn’t have much else going for them.
Nowadays it’s dead,maybe some limited release sauces every now and then and a couple bakery items that got removed,no new burgers or chicken sandwiches or anything

I bought a shirt of Mac Tonight but after hearing about moon man I'm not sure if I want to wear it now. So fucking pissed how Mac Tonight's image got twisted like that. The vibe the character gave off was cool and charismatic to me.

I hate what MacDonalds did to their company. They made the buildings sleek and colorless and the iconic charecters are gone unless they want to promote them
"When I was a kid..." there was a location in Fort Smith, AR I used to LOVE to go to because they had the moon man playing an automated piano. There was a ton of water behind plastic with lots of air bubbles surrounding him. I was entranced. I used to go nuts in those playgrounds as well. Those aren't a thing anymore. Also there was a location my grandpa took me to in South Pasadena, CA and they had a merry go round. He says I begged him to take me haha.
Chimps would swing from animatronics and break them in a week in this day and age. Which is why moonman was rebranded

I was six and I remember collecting all the Mac Tonight toys. Years later I found that they had another one this entire time, an Under 3 toy, Mac on a skateboard. I always enjoyed many McDonald's and Burger King toys. My mom actually found a few more McDonald's toys when I grew up and thought she would give them to me. I appreciated that, one of them turned out to be the Under 3 Mac Tonight skateboard figure.
@@brandoncolis3841 yeah I had a big collection of them from over the years, they were all lost in a storage unit after I found out my fiance hadn't been paying the monthly rent for it despite me giving her the money to do so.
I miss them, they ranged from the mid 80's - 2000's various restaurants and cereal brands, over 200 different toys some of them having doubles. That's totally not the reason we aren't together any longer but it certainly was a factor in the long run.
sad that certain things don't air all over the US. was lucky to be in the LA area, but wonder what epic things aired back east that i never got to experience as a kid :/

I always enjoyed Mac Tonight, but I think they should a character in honor of him called Sunny Day In with rays of the sun that resemble French fries.
In somewhat Mac Tonight was a classic as Ronald McDonald but if you look at today menu it grown up night supper club style meal is how we enjoy fast food at MC D's today with a airport efficiency and Starbucks design in restaurants but I wish we still had the kids style that was nostalgic but time passes...

McDonald got rid of every single character... I miss the good old era of Grimace, Ronald, Mayor McCheese, Birdie, The Hamburglar, Mac Tonight... Kids today only have remodeled boring McD buildings that looks like funeral home... We 70's and 80's kids had an amazing childhood with all these characters and colourful buildings !

I just wish McDonald’s would go back to their old recipes for their original fried & burgers!! They used to be the best in the West!! Now,just so- so. Wendy’s & Freddie’s fries are much better & DQ & Burger King have lean & good tasting burgers. Much better than McDonalds !! If Mc Donald’s doesn’t improve their food,they will eventually loose their customers & end up closing!!

Never was a McDonald's fan to begin with. Vaguely remember this advertising campaign, except maybe an ad in a magazine. Don't recall any television spots. Perhaps they only were shown very late at night. I had to get up and actually work. This was the late 80's.
