    At last, a scissor-sharpening tutorial that's straight to the point. I followed Wayne's technique and rescued 3 pairs of scissors. More helpful than any of the other dozen I watched. Thank you Wayne

      Hi Wayne, does the stone need to be wet before starting or is this done on a dry stone with dry scissors? TIA

    • @DIYwithWayne
      @DIYwithWayne  10 месяцев назад +2

      Sorry, I missed your comment. Dry or wet works. If wet, the stone will cut a little better but most of the time I just use mine dry. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

    Great stuff Wayne. My husband of 35 years was a superb knife maker. I lost him a few years back. Now being a knife makers wife I do know than a few things about knives in general, kinds of steel, models, history and such. But after he was gone, and when my knives and scissors started getting dull…I uh, well I realized I didn’t know a dang thing about sharpening blades, I never had to! He always whipped out the stone and sharped them before he used them even, or at least was prepared to sharpen. Well, I knew that wouldn’t do. So I started watching videos and I’m become pretty savvy at straight blades, but scissors, well hit and miss. I have a ton of scissors because I wouldn’t throw them away. It’s the principle you know. It’s been awhile so I was looking for new videos. I want to use the stones, between my husband and my daddy (he was a woodworker) I have more stones than you can imagine (that sounds like I’m bragging😊). Besides, I like the feeling of the methodical motions of the stone, it’s like restoring old hand tools which I also do. Went thru several videos but when I came to yours, your style just clicked. Very common sense and familiar. Ok, I’m gonna start tackling this box of scissors. I’ll let you know how I do!

      Hello Janis, So sorry to hear about your husband. I lost my wife just over 9 years ago (worst day of my life), so I understand the pain. It sounds like you know a lot more than most people and you will do great. I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm ruclips.net/user/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.

    I have watched so many tutorials for sharpening scissors and was getting ready to spend a hundred dollars on an electric sharpener until I watched your video and gave it a try since I have a sandstone and OMG it worked!!!! You are the first ever to show something that actually worked to sharpen my scissors. I have to add that the package said titanium never dulls there is no need to sharpen. That was a joke they went dull quick. I wish I would have seen this video sooner I tossed so many pairs of scissors lol. Thank you Wayne for this tutorial and for saving me $100!!!!!

    Happy wife, happy life!
    My wife has been asking me to sharpen all the scissors around the house from the kitchen to her craft sets. Heck, I even have a few dull pairs in my own workshop that I just never got around to.
    Well, today was the day. I did the usual RUclips search and the first few were either too complicated or trying to sell me a fancy gadget.
    Thank you Wayne for this easy, straightforward video that got me the results my wife and I needed. I was able to rescue 10 pairs of scissors in less than 30 minutes!

    For beginners (like me) it is useful to mark the blade area to be sharpened with an edding. Makes it easier to find the right angle, that is: you got the right angle when the edding colour disappears. Another thing: I just sharpened a pair of scissors and, at the end of the sharpening, used a leather strop for the flat side to remove any burr left. This stropping greatly enhanced the sharpness. All the best for 2024!

    Say, that was an exceptionally fine video. By the way, most of the scissors that I have ever come across were riveted in place. What I had to do then was to drill the original rivet out, and replace it with a new rivet. At times when a metric rivet was used, I simply had to enlarge the hole slightly so as to accommodate a standard rivet.

    I have never seen a scissors that comes apart like yours did. I have a couple that have what looks like a screw that could be loosened, but my Farberware one that came with my Knife set doesn't have a way to take it apart. It's weird too because you would expect a quality set like that they would have made it so you could take it apart to sharpen it.

    Wow, there is a lot of misinformation out there. I've saw a video where this one guy was actually telling you to sharpen the back side and saying how it's actually a slight hollow grind on the back and saying how you only want to lightly do it to touch up the edges. So glad i came across this, this morning, as i was about to do a customer's scissors that way. Thank you for showing the old fashioned way. That's how i normally do things and it's never failed me yet.

      There are several ways they may come apart. However some won't come apart and yours may be like this. You can still sharpen them using what I showed in the video. It's just a little easier if they come apart. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

    • @DIYwithWayne
      @DIYwithWayne  Год назад +1

      Some people suggest water but I use a light oil or just dry. It's best to use water or oil on it because that helps to clean the stone but sometimes I use it dry. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

    • @DIYwithWayne

      It's best not to sharpen the flat side but you can if you keep it flat. If you sharpen a bevel on the flat side they won't cut well if at all. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

    Hi Wayne. Thank you so much for this video! I bought the sharpest victorinox kitchen scissor and unfortunately it went blunt so fast thanks to it being used as the everything scissors. Haha. I only have one question about your stone, what exactly is it made of and is it course or fine? I have been looking at stones and they are so confusing and expensive, so if I can just get one for everything it will be awesome! Thanks again for your wisdom

    • @DIYwithWayne
      @DIYwithWayne  Год назад

      I would suggest you look for one that has a medium side and a fine side. Just stay away from the cheap stones. My Mom has one that is VERY poor, so I told here not to use it and I will sharpen her knives. If you get a fine stone by itself, you will spend a lot of time on a dull edge. Good luck with finding the stone you need. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
