I reached out to friends and family that have dreads and just got advice from them and everyone said the exact same thing “You Gotta be patient. I just got mine locked up yesterday, thankfully I work from home, so its just me and the awkward phase for now.

@@marmarbuckz5243 it's goin good vro it just feels like more parts are locking than others. Since I started my dreads using a twist technique they tend to come out and I have to get it retwisted and use a locking gel. It also helps a lot to have a dread sleeve when sleeping

I had my dreads for 1year and 4months and I remember when I had to go to school with my starter dreads when I say so much people talk down on my hair a lot of people but when it got longer they stopped. thru the months I was thinking of cutting them but I got thru it

Just started my journey 2 weeks ago!!! Went in for my 1st retwist today and my ends are budding!!! Me and my loctician were SHOCKED!!! I wasn’t expecting that AT ALL!!!
I just uploaded my 1-3 month dread update. I like the fact that you mentioned that it takes time for locs to take on a look. I have absolutely no idea how my dreads are going to look at the one year stage. Slick scared, but kinda excited as well. Your dreads look good btw!

Very good video, sir! It was awesome to see all the close-ups as your hair matured throughout those months. The photo that was 2 weeks post install took me back hard to my starter locs...good memories! In a weird way, I wish I could go back. Who would’ve ever guessed I’d feel that way. There was just an overall excitement about the quest that first year that has yet to be matched, truly inimitable.

I start my locs tomorrow and my hair is already kinda long but at the same time I'm nervous because I start school the day after
I'm at the 10 month mark Dread. Didn't think I'd make it through the ugly ass stage, separating it and hearing that congo dread crackle.. I reached for the clippers a few times and nearly got my bald on ha, a slick fade every 2 weeks keeps it sharp.. Good video my brother 🤜🏿🤛🏿

High top locs here. You started super early. I twisted my own hair and i can't imagine how aggravating it would've been at that length . With my hair grade they would've unraveled right after i twisted them .

I started my dreads in August of 2020 but prior to me getting dreads I grew my hair out for a year so I had longer hair when I started. But I'm 7 months in an im doing great
Just started my loc journey with coils. I know this is a process but just wanted to know some of the different ways to wash your hair without actually washing your hair. My scalp is normally itchy and I normally wash my hair every other day. Now that I can’t just want to know so ways.

Me too what do you do for yours in order to maintain them I still get told not to wash them by my stylist
@@sk8tepolitix656 I get a retwist usually every 6 weeks just because I don't like for it to look too wild. I can wash it as much as I want though because it doesn't unravel. So I wash on like week 3 between retwists. If you feel like your scalp is dirty or smells weird then washing it shouldn't cause any harm.

xoWaq yt there are going to be pros and cons to starting with long hair for sure! But I’d start them at that length. As my hair got longer it seemed like it actually took longer to loc!

With comb coils when retwisting do you retwist the entire coil or just the new growth from the root? And when budding do you retwist through the budding or up to the budding and stop?
shakur10011 I’ve seen both approaches. For my journey I’ve always focused primarily on the new growth. Especially during budding phase.

For sure! The only difference would be maybe how long it took for the hair to lock but the hair length wouldn’t change much about my hair.
My hair can lock up very fast I barely comb my hair so sometimes I find some locked up hair. I could probably free form. My mom has long locs that's why I want it.
Is it safe to use rubber bands to help lock your hair and if so what moisture do you recommend im new to getting locks
