I was born in the late 50s and all through the 60s I wanted to be an astronaut. I was told as a girl I couldn't be an astronaut, because it was too dangerous for girls. I'm so glad we've grown up a bit as a culture.
I think it's pretty cool that they did this on purpose as pointed out. I'm sure they could have once again found four white guys just as qualified, but they actually took the time to realize, wait, people that aren't white guys ALSO have the Right Stuff. I'll bet this crew is just as great as the other fine men we sent to the moon, and honestly, it's nice that the USA has finally realized that being a white man isn't a qualifier for this kind of greatness.
What's really interesting is that there is serious consideration of having an all female crew for the first Mars trip. Women on average consume 2200 calories per day, men 2800 per day. That's a huge difference on what could be a year long mission.
People forget that there were Russian women among the first cosmonaut crews. In the US, women pilots were able to pass the same rigorous training that the men went through, but an early decision that astronauts had to be military pilots eliminated women from consideration. The first American astronauts were all tremendous individuals, but it is a shame that it took years to be more inclusive.
Canada has been a MAJOR contributor to NASA's mission as a cooperative and very important partner since the beginning of the ISS. IT IS AN HONOR to have Canada with us on this mission!!!

My I’m 36 and my grandma is 85. Over the years she has mentioned Apollo and how everyone watched as they went to the moon originally. I have my fingers crossed that I get to watch Artemis land on the moon with her!
I read an article about this mission. They won't be landing or orbiting the moon just doing a fly by, makes no sense. Why didn't they mention this on the show??? Because the moon landings were FAKED over 50 years ago.
I'm really excited, and humbled that something like this could happen in my lifetime. Good luck and Godspeed, star riders--we'll all be watching, and waiting to drink a toast to your return.
Honestly, it's pretty pathetic that it's taken us this long to send people to the moon again. We took our sweet time. And we could have done it again quite easily a lot sooner than this. Too busy funding wars, BS politics, and unnecessary technological distractions on Earth. My only reaction to this is "IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME."
These 4 simply make me proud to just be human. They represent the smartest and strongest as they spearhead the space race. I can't wait to hear more later, as I would loosely quote: One step for them, one leap for us.
This was an absolute joy to watch. Honestly, my eyes got a little misty. I don't know how I'll be when Humanity steps on the moon again. My Dad saw it happen when he was 10 years old in 1969 and I really want to make sure that I'm with him so we can watch together as it happens again.
My gradeschool years were in the 80's and I grew up learning about Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin . My science teacher was talking about it and showing us videos (in betamax) like it happened yesterday. Nice to know this generation will learn new names. About time.
I love that once they started coming out of their "haha we're in front of a live audience😬" nerves, you can really tell they're good friends. The way they play off each other and make each other laugh is delightful. Super excited to watch their mission :)
This is so cool. I don't recall ever seeing an astronaut on a talk show before and here we have four of them, who will be taking the next step forward in humanity's exploration of space.
Frank Borman lives here in Billings. Great guy! At 95, he is the oldest living astronaut. He commanded Apollo 8, the first manned mission around the moon. It's great to see it happening again. So much technology can be attributed to our space program. Good job on the interview. It will be something that I can discuss with Commander Borman.
This has got to be the most honest interview ever. Both parties are so genuinely excited about being there. Especially Stephen, he’s had so many great guest but you can really see this is personal for him, and the line about 12 year old Stephen- just gold ❤
@@nandopotgieter8058 your life must be sad and lacking if you don’t know what joy looks like. It’s well known Stephen is really in to space and this is literally one of his dreams come true. He truly admires these people and their work and that’s very obvious in this interview.
If they return and find that their experience in space altered their DNA and she starts going invisible, the brain next to her starts stretching, the black pilot crowd-hyper bursts into flames and the Canadian turns into a rock, then yeah.

That segment was so cool. I can't wait to watch it! when the ISS went live on nasa's website about 10 years ago to showcase the Aero garden they cultivated. That was amazing. I sat my 6 year olds down to watch it with me, because that was historic! This generation needs some hope and unity.
All four of them seem like really inspiring and genuinely great people. I wish them all the luck on their mission! And I love seeing Colbert genuinely geek out too :D
These 5 people are representing what I love about America (yes, I know one is Canadian, but he's working for an American enterprise here 🙃). @@markbeames7852 lol, we may have a different idea about my “ good looking” comment, but I admit both are true, they are certainly cute. What I meant was, great looking uniforms, strait backs, confidence, easy smiles, a general pleasing neatness, and obvious enthusiasm.
President Kennedy, Sept. 20, 1963, at the UN General Assembly: "Why, therefore, should man's first flight to the moon be a matter of national competition? Why should the United States and the Soviet Union, in preparing for such expeditions, become involved in immense duplications of research, construction, and expenditure? Surely we should explore whether the scientists and astronauts of our two countries--indeed of all the world--cannot work together in the conquest of space, sending someday in this decade to the moon not the representatives of a single nation, but the representatives of all of our countries."
While the first astronauts to the moon were all American, the engineers, scientists, etc working to make it happen were from other countries, as well as the US. Which was Kennedy's hope/desire, it seems.
After seeing so much turmoil and disturbing events on the national and international stage for so long, it is so refreshing to see us reach back up to the stars with such amazing and wonderful people. Watching them restores my faith in humanity 💖💖💖💖
I grew up following the Apollo missions. Back then Astronauts were seen as heroes. It’s exciting to see the enthusiasm, excitement & respect for them & space exploration come back again.
Even Conan would've just wrung some cheap jokes out of it (let alone Letterman or Leno), but Stephen actually knows what the hell he and his guest are talking about.

Hate to tell you, but they won't be landing on the moon with her.
I read an article about this mission. They won't be landing or orbiting the moon just doing a fly by, makes no sense. Why didn't they mention this on the show???
Because the moon landings were FAKED over 50 years ago.
They're actually flying around the moon, not landing on it unfortunately.

I was wondering why Stephen Colbert. Makes 100% sense, so classy and funny. And wow what a crew. Smart, inspiring people, flagbearers of humanity❤
I'm really excited, and humbled that something like this could happen in my lifetime. Good luck and Godspeed, star riders--we'll all be watching, and waiting to drink a toast to your return.
I really hope they are okay. This crap is literally the hardest thing humankind can do... May they find nothing but success!
I saw Neil Armstrong. Would love to see this as well.
Why?
Honestly, it's pretty pathetic that it's taken us this long to send people to the moon again. We took our sweet time. And we could have done it again quite easily a lot sooner than this. Too busy funding wars, BS politics, and unnecessary technological distractions on Earth. My only reaction to this is "IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME."
@@biggtrux why, because humans should do more than cause wars !

This team has a great sense of humor. I love the diversity, too. Wish them the best. Astronauts are always going to be heroes in my book.
Not nearly diverse enough. Where are the Gay, Trans and Otherkin astronauts???

These 4 simply make me proud to just be human. They represent the smartest and strongest as they spearhead the space race. I can't wait to hear more later, as I would loosely quote: One step for them, one leap for us.

This was an absolute joy to watch. Honestly, my eyes got a little misty. I don't know how I'll be when Humanity steps on the moon again. My Dad saw it happen when he was 10 years old in 1969 and I really want to make sure that I'm with him so we can watch together as it happens again.
again lol. C'mon humanity get it in gear.
Scheduled for december 2025, Artemis III
They are NOT landing on the Moon!!which is kind of a shame as the determined conspiracy brigade will mutter "I bet they never did..." 🤣
My gradeschool years were in the 80's and I grew up learning about Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin . My science teacher was talking about it and showing us videos (in betamax) like it happened yesterday. Nice to know this generation will learn new names. About time.
they arent landing on the moon..just a lunar flyby.. Its a deceiving mission
This has got to be one of Colbert's favorite interviews. What an articulate, sharp group of folks.
I love that once they started coming out of their "haha we're in front of a live audience😬" nerves, you can really tell they're good friends. The way they play off each other and make each other laugh is delightful. Super excited to watch their mission :)
Aliens will probe them real good 😂
They have such good vibes together, cracking each other up with jokes, what a wholesome crew!
Frank Borman and Jim Lovell are amazing heros! Tell Mr. Borman he is admired and well remembered by Americans!
This has got to be the most honest interview ever. Both parties are so genuinely excited about being there. Especially Stephen, he’s had so many great guest but you can really see this is personal for him, and the line about 12 year old Stephen- just gold ❤
They are getting paid. Of course they will be excited. Wake up

So much better than having actors and musicians ALL THE TIME
Guess NASA found the technology they lost after the fake moon landing 😂😂
People are going to look back on this with the same enthusiasm we look back at Interviews with the Apollo Astronauts. Awesome.
I needed this video today. Thank you crew! Canada is extremely proud of you Jeremy. Seeing that beautiful flag on your shoulder made my heart skip a beat.

4 astronauts, one who's a woman, and one whose name is Reid. This feels like another reboot of The Fantastic Four ;-) Kidding aside, this is amazing! All four of them seem like really inspiring and genuinely great people. I wish them all the luck on their mission! And I love seeing Colbert genuinely geek out too :D
These 5 people are representing what I love about America (yes, I know one is Canadian, but he's working for an American enterprise here 🙃). There is an awful lot of bad things, of which my friends remind me, while asking why I follow the news from the US and like to visit it.... NASA, intelligent interviewers, diverse people, [etc etc] and especially Colbert with diverse geeks like NASA people... They are inspiring and helping to deal with less inspiring people on a daily basis...
