I'm taking it one step further, I've toggled off the quest helper feature so I really have to read every quest and figure out which direction to go when leaving town and what to look for to get to the quest destination. No quest markers in my playthrough. I've chosen to do that because I remember questing with only the quest text to go on was the best times I had in vanilla WoW. When I didn't know all the quests yet, it really felt like I was adventuring. So that's what I want this time around again, and I think LOTRO is pretty much my best chance at having that experience atm. It's taking a lot longer to complete quest because of all the roaming around BUT I run into so many things I didn't expect to see because of it, ADVENTURE!

No big deal. LoTRO became my escape for years during it's late vanilla/early Moria days, and I honestly think that Moria was one of the best expansions for any game I've ever played, loved it so much. Just the whole LotR world unfolding for me was so great, and you didn't feel like you had to be a "character" in the story. You were the invisible hero behind the scenes, part of the rest of the world that helped the heroe's along, and you really felt like you could just enjoy the world as it was during the path of the Fellowship. Best world building ever.

Regarding LotRO points, I'd add: Take recommendations from veteran players with a grain of salt. Don't rush to purchase upgrades based on world chat.
Many long time vets seem to have forgotten how much they paid for some of their favorite upgrades, or forgotten how long it took to save for them, or maybe just have a slightly skewed perspective in general.
As a new player it's very easy to feel like you need to buy points so you can get the carry-alls, mount speed, vault space, enduring tools, etc etc. People will tell you these things are essential and act like they're cheap.
In reality you need very little as a new player. (At least with VIP. I can't speak to the fully F2P experience.) Save the points until you have a good feel for what purchases you really want to prioritize.

11:41 I’ve struggled with this one, not even being that much of a new player. Reason being, a lot of the time entire areas are locked by some precedent, quest, so combining that fear that I haven’t completed the President quest, combined with my desire to complete all of the content, it makes it really hard to move on to new areas.
When I wrote out to Rohan, there were tons of towns where I couldn’t pick up a single quest and I was supposedly around the level that I could. So I had to do this terrible thing I had to trace everything back and go through the progression which was great because then I get the story I guess, but when you don’t play the game for long periods of time, or you want to sync up your play with another person, it makes it fairly difficult to do so which is the downside

    • @morrowoblivion13

Please tell me if I am wrong. You might be referring to angmar where those statues can one shot you. As one area locked by a precedent quest. Normally doing the epic(main Story quests) unlocks areas like Rohan, Gondor, etc. like in order to survive in Mordor you need equipment with light of earandil in it. Which you get in the epic quests.

Thats why i stuck to ff14 for so long, the gear just looks so awesome.
To me what ive seen in lotro, you cant really tell the difference between a level 5 character and a level 100 character because all the gear looks kind of boring.
Maybe its the age or the engine of the game?

LOTRO doesn't 'force' you to pay $ for anything. If you are patient and willing to grind, you can earn all the LOTRO coins you need just by playing. However, it is strongly recommended that at a bare minimum most folks should sign up and pay for VIP status at some point, even if only for a month. That sets you up with a lot of conveniences that persist even if you cancel the VIP subscription and go back to F2P.
On the other hand, given that the reality is that games like this ultimately need to pay the real-life bills, I encourage folks to pay for expansions with real life money when they can afford to. What is affordable is different for everyone, of course. Folks need to assess just what the value is that the game brings to their life and recognize that it doesn't come for free.

@@LyricSnowe nope not sponsored at all. I’m just passionate about LOTRO and would love to retain the influx of newer people trying it out ☺️

The "sliding" or "gliding" animations have always put me off right from the get go. I just can't get into this game, they could have fixed this in all the years the game has been out yet they have not. Hard pass.

It's quite interesting. These animations give me a sense of nostalgia for games from that period. I know it's objectively bad, but in my opinion it has a weird charm to it. Its almost like this game got stuck in 2007, for the good and bad.

sure..in Rohan..and you'll start a rookie so you won't be very good mounted fighter, but if you level you steed by doing quests in Rohan you can be a vet in the end.
