    A brand new project to the FabCo channel, before we've even finished the first! We're taken on the Allegro after badgering Jonny for months about the Agro and we're finally making some progress.
    In this episode i talk though making the chassis jig and getting the car mounted on it, then get cutting that awful front off. Many challenges lay ahead, but this is a great starting point, a blank canvas to build from!
    If your don't know what this project is or what its about, start here;
    Allegro Sleeper part 1: www.youtube.co....
    Allegro Sleeper part 2: www.youtube.co....
    Allegro Sleeper part 3: www.youtube.co....
    Many thanks to The Late Brake Show team for the opportunity to collaborate on this fun project!

    Woohoo, a new Fabco video to start the weekend! :D The V6 is lovely and it almost seems a shame to totally undo a bunch of work, but sunk costs are what they are - the K20 makes much more sense (to the extent a hot hatch Allegro can make sense). Looking forward to the rest of these! Cheers!

    Good update, its nice to see this project coming along. You are absolutely spot on, spending time now getting the suspension right and you have the best chance of it driving well. I set up four wheel alignment on a lot of quirky / odd cars. A lot of classic minis with engine swaps or stuff that has been lowered significantly. You can do your best to get a good setup but if the driveshafts are at a terrible angle its always going to torque steer.

    In regards to filling the holes in the wing top I have a suggestion that sounds ridiculous but is how Iv welded extra bits to parts with moulded rubber on them that I couldn’t melt.
    Immerse the bit you don’t want to get burnt from the heat of welding in water. You’d probably need an old bath and it would be awkward and a bit time consuming but you solve the burnt paint problem.
    Failing that. There are some incredible adhesives around that you could use to bond the wings to a sub frame once you trim the flat edge back to a point there are no holes in it anymore.

    As the owner of a K20 CRV they are a bulletproof engine just requiring regular servicing, not forgetting the adjust the valve clearances. If you want to use all the revs and the vtec you can surprise a lot of people, in the Civic S it is very quick when used in anger. You should have a little car which will disillusion a lot of hot hatch owners.....

    Suspension question: why keep the macpherson struts? The only advantage they seem to have are they are simple and cheap, in this case simple and clearance to the engine seem the only positives. A double A arm from a well supported similar sized car seems preferable in my opinion.

    • @FabCoUK
      @FabCoUK  2 года назад +1

      Double wishbone suspension is definitely better, but it’s important to remember we’re not trying to build a lap record holder, just a fun fast car. We already had those struts & hubs from previous attempts at this project too, it made sense to use them. I did consider it, but I think ultimately Jonny will never notice the difference. If I was building a track car, no brainer.

      @@FabCoUK thank goodness lol. Because the BOM boys where pretty flat out at the start of that mini build, making great content with their jovial nature and outstanding fabrication work. Then they suddenly stopped for ages, started doing this modern social media drip feeding and throwing back to snippets of previous videos behaviour, and every now and again threw out the odd new video, as well as straying off into other projects. That is when after 5 or so years of following the build, i just switched off an lost interest in it, and their channel.

    If you’re tube framing the front would it not be easier to build it all to EG civic or del sol dimensions? Nice cheap way to have a top class double wishbone setup (EG civic is 100% the same as the DC2 integra which is pretty much the best handling FWD car ever) plenty of cheap adjustable parts and shaft angles are proven etc.
    Probably too far beyond that point now and you certainly seem to know what to do to make it work…..will follow to the end. 👍🏻

    • @FabCoUK
      @FabCoUK  2 года назад

      Really we’d need another donor car for that. There’s so many roads you can go down, we already had the Golf parts from previous attempts at this project, so just using as much as what we have as possible. Sure, other options might be better, but that’s not what this build is about 😃

      @@FabCoUK I’ve scrapped so many over the years aswell…..I have an SiR del sol there I could nick the engine from and donate…..but it’s just now kinda approaching a value where it’s a shame not to restore it really.
      The amount of EG civics that have passed thru my hands aswell…..they were so cheap at one point I bought one for £75 and it had £90 worth of tax left on it…..back in the day when it could be transferred.
      Not really sure how far along you are……I’d happily offer up a chassis for taking measurements off…..take it as long as you like. EG civics are getting a bit expensive to get hold of. But cheap Del sols are still very available…..probably get the bits you need for free if you sell the bits you don’t need…..I only say this because that would mean every consumable front end suspension part would be off the shelf. Billet mounts from China £120…..snap a shaft and get one off eBay……like I say you’re probably too far in to scrap what you’ve done….and I have no doubt you will make an incredible job…..but having the only bespoke part being the tube frame itself…..and everything else you would ever need to replace is bolt on off the shelf would be pretty amazing.
      And then adding the advantage of The best FWD suspension setup of all time and dirt cheap parts……I just can’t not mention it.
      Either way I have no doubt you’ll nail it. Can’t wait to see it go. 👍🏻

      Good question! You can play around with different options forever and a day, at some point you just need to pick one. I had a K20 that I tried it, it looked like it would work well, it has huge aftermarket support, it’s proven.. it was an obvious choice.
      A Rover engine would have been great, but they’re all so old now, it’s just a lot more work to get to the point of a running car.

      Its still a K series though ;) Theres also a tenuous link to rovers using honda engines anyway. So to me at least, a Honda K swap in any BL/rover group car is acceptable. (As is a ford 4.6 v8 lol)

    Hi I like to ask you a question on the engine mounts. Why have you not trying to fit a full front sub frame of the Honda k20 as it will have all the steering rack a suspension lay out? I watched the video on Johnny's RUclips and you said he was using VW (VAG) front hubs? Will you be fitting Honda hubs instead? And great video on this build

    • @FabCoUK
      @FabCoUK  2 года назад +2

      Waste of time trying to fit a Civic front end as it will all end up completely redesigned around making it narrower. Jonny wants a sleeper, so that means stock Allegro track width. We’re using Golf stuff as that’s what we already had from other peoples previous attempts at completing this project.
      Thanks ✌🏻

    I am horrified by the thought of what this project will cost. I liked the original idea of making an Allegro sleeper but the project appears to have gone far beyond what is worth doing.
    Just because you can and have the engineering knowledge to do it doesn't mean the end product will be worth the journey.
    Nice showcase for your abilities though Adam. Not sure that I will be following the project much further.

    • @FabCoUK
      @FabCoUK  2 года назад

      I’m not sure I understand your statement. Sometimes just because you can is exactly the reason you should? I mean, why not? If it’s what you want, do it, and do it right. Either do it properly or don’t do it at all😊

    • @FabCoUK
      @FabCoUK  2 года назад

      I’d also add that for me specifically, I’m about the journey, not about the destination. Wether it’s worth it at the end is irrelevant if you have loads of fun along the way.

    • @simonanstey5546
      @simonanstey5546 2 года назад

      I can tell that you are having fun and you are doing a great job. I guess you are also getting paid for your work(either directly or by youtube subs) so to some extent it doesn't really matter if the end product is worth it or not.
      I liked the idea of modifying the car on the cheap as I could relate to it but I don't see the point of completely re-engineering/re-building a car that will look like an Allegro. May as well just bolt an Allegro body on a hot hatch.
      I have no criticism of you and admire greatly your engineering ability but to me the project has lost its point. To end up with an Allegro lookalike hot hatch that will have cost £40-£50 k seems to miss the point.
      Just my personal opinion of what the project has become.
