Binky, Urchfab, all of skidmores builds, and . . Don’t forget my build too 🫣 looking forward to seeing a fabco mini build. You’re doing the same job as me atm Adam.
Thanks for sharing. We have (last 20 years) a 1968 Mini P/Van here in Australia so I'm watching for the Turbo part as I've been thinking of doing it for a while. Cheers Billy J...... Queensland, Australia.
It’s great seeing 40 yr old cars being restored and definitely have a soft spot for Mini’s…. It’s a great shame that this will no longer be a thing as no one will ever restore an EV in 40yrs time…..they will be thrown away 😢
You can get inner / outer sills sections which are a complete section and it also goes into the front floor pan section. You can get them from Darlington.
Great to see you on with the mini! I'm sure you can fab it no problem but m machine do the bottom part of the flitch panels if you prefer for cheap. They also do full length floors with inner sills to the first flute, with or without the outer sills already attached.
looking forward to following the build on this. Shell looks pretty solid. Unusual the O/S sill is worse the the N/S which is the side in the water at the side of the road. You might remember my car, I parked next to you guys in the Late Brake section at Retro Rides Gathering last year.
Great to see u back again Adam, I hope this project is gonna be a bit quicker, lol. I hope we see the other projects soon too. Really like the allegro & princess projects so hope to see em soon
I understand if the engine choice has already been decided but if not have a look at Nissan micra cg13de conversions, they won't set the world on fire but they fit in an unmodified body and develop decent power straight out of the box for much less $ than modifying the A series. I've done the conversion and I'm delighted with it, for someone with your fab skills it'd be a piece of cake, you could also turbo it if required although room would start to get tight. PS: don't get put off by published engine hp figures the standard engine is choked down by both inlet and exhaust manifolds which need to change anyway.
As you're replacing the rear subframe, go for a rear space frame. Save some weight. They're so much better than the cumbersome and bulky standard item.
Perhaps straightening out the original boot floor would have been easier and still stronger than gluing in a carbon panel and a 'rotisserie' pole through the speedometer hole and the matching hole behind the rear seat back would make the restoration of the floor a more pleasant endeavour?
Were you ever tempted to delete the back seat and move the bulkhead and the front seats backwards into the interior, like an MX5? I'm just thinking about how to give the engine some space.
@@FabCoUK A-series? Oh! I'm sorry, I was squeezing a K20 in there. What on earth could've put that stupid idea into my head? Yes, my bad. Plenty of space, of course. ;P
I'm at the same stage as you, welding is getting done on my 1999 MPi. I was thinking about making some wheel arch liners for the front, help give the arches, back of headlights and door hinge bolts some extra life, is this something you have ever thought about fabricating? Looking forward to a new mini project to fill the hole Binky has left! 😅
I think wheel arch liners were available at some point as I had them fitted at the front, the problem is if they’re not a perfect fit that end up trapping mud that stays damp and still causes rot, so it’s tricky. Best bet is good bed liner and keep it all clean and tiny up in there I think 🙂
I would go the extra mile and do the panels properly mate, as you can get hold of new panels at the mo and you want the car to last another 40 years too
ahh, the old jack it up on the subframe + slip off routine, been there a few times in the old days... carbon bootfloor, never seen one, even binky never got one of them... are you not going to knock up a spit for it ? keep up the good work young man
I saw a mini custom build the other day with the front bonnet/lights/bumper etc, all cut off and made into a full front tipper in order to put a bigger engine in. It may have even come completely off the front to gain full access
I did this to one of mine years ago - just welded the wings, front panel and bonnet together to make a steel flip front, then shortened the inner wings and added brace bars between the stubby inner wings and the front edge of the subframe. It could hinge or could come off completely - made engine access lovely but its not for the purist.
I wouldn't use Specialist Components. Impossible to get full answers and subpar quality. I ordered a harness for an s54 swap. It was so short, I had to run the loom over the engine to reach the injectors. Really disappointed with their customer service.
Knowing how fussy you are, it must be hard not to go for a full resto? I purchased a do'er upper, started to collect panels, then whilst poking around with a screwdriver, decided i'm gonna be chasing rust for the rest of its life . . . Bit the bullet, bought a new shell!
This seems like a Binky project all over again with no updates for extended periods. At least this guy isnt milking his community for patreon memberships though
Looking forward to seeing how this comes together. Please don't let it be a Binky!!! 🤣
I love seeing mini's worked on ! MCM's mini, Project Binky, Urchfab's racing mini and now this ! Can't wait to see more.
Urchfabs mini is a beast!
@@FabCoUK Yes if I remember correctly he bought a built A series race engine for it to replace a Honda motor.

Turbo is the way!💪🏻
Never had a Mini, but this was still a great watch. I look forward to future instalments. Time-lapse or "rambling chat": it's all good!
Interesting build, looking forward to it. Also, well done for wearing decent PPE. Rare in you tube.
Another great episode, keep up the great work

Nice to see Matt/Urchfab’s panels getting a plug.

The Princess has gone on the back burner, as I know I’ll be able to smash this one out and get it on the road 🙂
That's great, really like the channel & content but just wish there was more, lol 😆

Can't beat a turbo mini 😁 mine has 155hp on low boost which feels like a good amount of power without constantly breaking traction! 💪🏻
Sounds like a lot of fun!
Finish something before moving on.
Absolutely brilliant! Love minis 😊
Excellent :) Looking forward to seeing more of this one.
Looks pretty solid tbf
It is. There’s no rust from the floor up really
Hmm, brings back memories - I built a Mini Turbo (using Metro Turbo engine), but the internet wasn't much of a thing in 1996 🤣🤣
Nor was I 😂

I’m not too worried about saving weight on this one 🙂
"I'm not worried about this being a concourse car", *doesn't bash the bootfloor flatish with a hammer. Are you sure you aren't going concourse :P
I think if I’d have bashed it back it’d have even more holes in it 😂

Unfortunately the boot floor was too crusty to repair!
Were you ever tempted to delete the back seat and move the bulkhead and the front seats backwards into the interior, like an MX5? I'm just thinking about how to give the engine some space.
Sounds like a lot of work. There’s plenty of space in the Mini engine bay for an A-Series engine 🙂

There is a guy in Leamington Spa that does awesome quility front and rear sub frame builds. He's on Flea Bay doing refurbishment for a quid 😅
