Golden era of rallying, when cars looked and sounded cool. I have driven 4 Subarus and owned 3. Same chassis and production engines as these cars. Will drive them until the day I die!
Actually the ones you owned were the straight up 2L boxer engines. The rally version is a little wider, could not fit into the normal production line & the engine was a 2.2L 22B. So a little different. But the Rally version had a 0-100 of 3.5 vs. the 5.9 ish of the production ones. That....... THING!!!! could beat a ferrari F40 on a twisty road.
The WRCars were all 2.0L. The 22B and rally car were not the same thing, the 22B was a road car designed to look like the WRCar, but the 22B was not the competition car.

I play an online car racing game, and I always use a 1998 or 2004 Subaru Wrx Sti and I simply got emotional watching this video, I swear I started to shed tears here.

Having been lucky enough to see Colin at full chat in Wales. He made me want the Subaru and I bought one as a fan. The sheer speed he carried was mind blowing compared to other drivers. Truly on the limit at all times. Rallying will never see his like again

He's a good driver but far from the best. You need to look at all the other top drivers and you will know there were much better driving before him and after him ,I do give him respect and I can say he's a good rally driver .

because suichi shigeno is a WRC fan. if you repeatly read the manga you will notice about what exactly initialD is all about. not a wasting tires drifting shit, but actually a rally skills and technique (meanwhile keisuke skills adapting of hillclimb). shinego-senpai actually wrote a lot of explanation in the manga about rally and fujiwara skills related. dakara if you read his new mfghost manga (initialD sequel), takumi actually end up being a rally driver. but retired after he crashed due to driveshaft problem
Agree. When I look at it, it just doesn't have the trademark Subaru look. Also, I test drove one and it felt completely different, even from the 2013. It saddens me.
22b is unique, it's coupe. Subaru needs to make another coupe. Had McRae still alive, he would've blasting the boxer down the touge. Seeing rally races on the tarmac is refreshing.
I love the confidence of the spectators remaining calm near the track that the Subaru won't likely do something stupid. And the Subaru obediently remains planted as it screams and gracefully drifts in the corner. Oh my, car porn isn't worthy without a Subaru

he was one of my favourites but I would have to give the best title to Juha kankunen, there is more to making the best rally driver than just being fast and spectacular (maybe the best over a single stage but not the entire season, not without good fortune), like mcrae and vatanen were.
+The ANT after macrae's retirement, wrc isn't the same sport. And probably will be not the same. That says everything. You are right, he wasn't the most successful and constant (I believe this 'title' belongs to makkinen , not kankunen or Loeb, for differents reasons) but the feeling of being in front of macrae driving was the most magic ever in wrc. On my eyes he is the best...
No doubt, that man was a legend. You can really see the lines that he takes when coming out of turns. The braking points are perfect and the timing he takes the shoulder.
CJAE Y I really hope they decide to go back. They just obliterate the opposition in Rally America year after year. Subaru has also been setting profit records month after month for like the past 3-4 years or something, so they should be well financially now to support a WRC team which supposedly was reason for leaving in 08 if I'm not mistaken. They are involved in different motor sports like the 24hrs Nurburgring and GT in Japan. But I think it's been long enough, FHI is strong enough to support a WRC and get back to the roots that made Subaru many of its fans.
What can we say? There will never be another Maradona, another Pélè, another Ayrton Senna.... and there won't definitely will be another Collin. RIP CHAMPION.We will never forget the hapynness u brought to us rally lovers.

Growing up there was a guy in my town who founded ECS in Windsor Locks CT. He started with a 2.5RS and an EJ20 swap and it’s become such a popular platform they actually offer a kit so to speak to swap in the newer 25 and 6 speed. I’ve owned one and it was one of the funniest cars I’ve ever owned. Not very practical but so much grip and power in a tiny 2 door.
The subaru impreza, what a freaking 👏 machine. Very lucky to own 3. Great buy these days as the value here in the UK 🇬🇧 is so expensive. Keeping hold of my rally blue 💙 absolute stunning mint condition wrx turbo 2005 plate for ever. Garage every night. Worth more now than it was several years ago. If you are thinking of one of these machines, go for it , they really are very cool. The comments you get off people is unbelievable 😳 🙄

I had a GC8 STI before. Light weight and high power,size was so compact. It was so fun driving Impreza.
