Are we stuck with compressed video or audio streams now? I really enjoyed the best consumer video and TrueHD/DTS-MA audio that comes with some Blu-Rays.
Could this be how H-wood drives people back into the theaters? Home video wrecked the industry over 20 years ago, once DVD's and big-screen TV's with good sound systems became affordable to the average person. BluRay is a must for it, because the streaming services have been caught red-handed corrupting the video quality of their streams in order to save bandwidth. If BluRay isn't available, and people are forced to watch new movies as washed-out and murky 720p streams, it might convince more people to buy movie tickets.
I hate to say it, but I’m actually not surprised this movie sucks. I mean if Hangover 2 and 3, which were also directed by Phillips sucked then there was no chance this movie was gonna be good.
@@canaldecasta well the sequels make Alan a straight up crazy person and a moron; while in the first film he was either “love him or hate him”. And plus the sequels are not as funny as the first one.
I’m inclined to believe that Todd Phillips never intended to make Hangover sequels OR and ESPECIALLY Joker… however money talks and studio execs talk even louder. It’s a 100% certainty that studios ALWAYS want to capitalise on 1st movie successes… and 95% of the time they fail, more so than ever when the director has stated publicly that they never intended to make a sequel.
lol even my mom who had no interest in watch the first one ended up loving Joker . Before this movie even came out she said she wasn’t going to watch it cause she felt they ended the first one perfectly.
Todd Phillips never intended to make a Joker movie, he never wanted people to empathise with Arthur & the sequel was designed to destroy the original. He’s come out publically saying all of this. Why anyone would think it could be good is beyond me. Phillips proudly declared that he made it this way on purpose.
Nobody actually empathized with him. It was just a great villain origin story. People love a good (evil) villain. Most people saw it like Fight Club, as a critique of hyperfemininity/the woke mind-virus (blaming every one of your problems on everyone else/certain groups/"the system"/"the man"/society/etc. without any personal responsibility or self-awareness) Of course as far left progressives that wasn't their intention at all so they got super butthurt about it cuz they stupidly made a genius movie entirely by accident and expected everyone to be horrified instead of being like "Omg that was so good/fitting, great job these guys get it!" (they, in fact, do not get it and they made a whole-ass second movie showcasing just how). The first Joker was the first stab at cancel culture leaking in trying to shame them for actually doing a proper sympathetic villain for the first time in years of comic book movie schlock so they had to toe the line and virtue-signal as hard as they could so they don't get labelled as nazis or whatever they think comic book fans and straight white men are these days. Then when all the normal sane men (the overwhelming vast majority of us that aren't degenerates like HIGHLY privileged elites) didn't go out a-rapin' and a-murderin' gunning down crowds of school children and lighting baby carriages on fire or whatever they expected, they decided that the nigh inevitable crisis was so narrowly averted they better go out of their way in the second film to put a chick in it and make it as lame and gay as possible 🙃
Given a job people would literally kill for, had a massive success, and because it didn't happen exactly the way he demanded, he hated the success so much he spent $200 million and a year of his life taking a crap on his own best work. Really takes toxic narcissism to a whole new level.
@@matteomastrodomenico1231 He has stated that he didn't want to make it and that he hates anyone who liked it. It's clear he'd erase it if he could. That's not in his power. He knew all he could do was take a dump on it, so that's what he did.
If the animation at the start is about the Jungian Shadow, then that's not how it was resolved in the first movie. Arthur was a victim his entire life until he let his shadow overtake him in the subway, where he killed those guys. The movie ends with him embracing it fully. The animation implies that his shadow took control over him and then he just faced the consequences for its actions, but that's not how it works and not how it played out. The last few scenes of him going "you wouldn't get it" show him embracing what he has become, not just being a victim again.
Yes, and that's what he ends up stating explicitly. There is no shadow/joker. It was all Arthur. I think the purpose of the cartoon at the start was not to depict things as they happened, but simply to depict the narrative that would be proposed (by his laywer, among others) and then ultimately shot down and debunked. Which is weird.
The solar plant mentioned at the start of the video is almost certainly a solar concentrator design - instead of using a massive array of solar panels to turn sunlight into electricity, you use a massive array of mirrors to focus sunlight onto a furnace which heats a liquid to power a turbine. It's an Archimedes' Heat Ray aimed at a solar hot water system.

Curious. No idea how many books have been written/published since the Gutenberg printing press invented. Millions? How many of those were worth the paper they were written on? A million? How many worth remembering? Thousands? How many “classics”? Hundreds? Should we expect a different distribution with movies?
All we can do is take each one on its own merits. Not every movie needs to be a classic, but there's a bare minimum standard of quality that they should all be able to meet.
@@CriticalDrinkerAfterHours I guess I'm part of the problem since I pay for more than a few "below bare minimum standard of quality" ... crap. Always appreciate your *warnings*.
On the Rings of Power, I think it is all part of Simon Tolkien's grand strategy. He's grown up his whole life as 'JRR Tolkien's grandson'. The Rings of Power will destroy the love for JRR. Coming up next will be the destruction of the love for his father Christopher's work on the Silmarillion (with another big payday). Last Tolkien standing will be Simon and nothing will get in the way of appreciation of his own unjustly overlooked books.
For decades, the nerds, dorks, and weirdos kept this genre alive. They spent thousands and thousands of dollars a year on special issues, toys, clothing, statues, etc. That money was great, but they made some movies and brought in the normies. It boosted the sales but once the big movies went away so did the sales. The people who had supported this genre became an embarrassing note as they wanted the stories that meant something and wouldn't swallow the butchered stories that have shown up. But somehow, we should support those who sneer at us? I read comics for decades but haven't bought any for years as they have lost the quality they used to. Don't expect to ever see the quality return of Clairemont era Xmen. They told me it's not for me, so I'll respect them and agree.

I think Gore's point on the descendant of Palpatine being a terrible place to start for a character is really weird. With good writing, that's a very interesting story to tell! Imagine finding out your grandpa was the greatest murderer in the galaxy! What will that do to a character? Alternatively, what if they know where they come from, but have been raised by droids or fanatical loyalists, so that when they enter the real world they are slapped in the face with the truth of what Palpatine did and stood for? Will they be tempted by the dark side (carry on the family business as it were), will they be so driven to redeem the family name or distance themselves from him that they'll take foolhardy risks to prove how different they are from him, will they actually hear from a dark side force ghost (or will they become a protege of a Jedi's force ghost, trying to protect them and keep them from following in grand-dad's footsteps). There's a huge number of narrative possibilities there, I'd argue at least as much if not more than a Skywalker/Solo kid. But the writing has to be sharp; the character has to be able to flounder, even fail, and they really need to get across any inner conflict that is raging within them, rather than what we got.
It is a terrible start for the main character in a series of movies made to be the direct successors of the previous movies with similar arcs and story beats. Not a terrible idea for stand alone movies or for a supporting character that then grows into a main character and maybe even gets it's own movies.

Joker did not require a sequel, and everything I've heard about 2 sounds like a deliberate strangling of the IP. Joker set out to prove that comic movies still work, and without all of _'THE MESSAGE'_ being involved, and they clearly didn't like that.
It wasn't a message thing. What it is is Todd and Joaquin decided to explore the darker interpretation of 1's ending, which is the ending I always saw it as; Joker 1 isn't _the_ Joker, he's just a sad guy grasping for straws who accidentally triggered a bigger movement. I like Joker 2, warts and all, because it's _exactly that_ interpretation. His lawyer wants him to pay a sad victim of split personality (which was a popular scientific fad at the time and 100% what psychologists would peg him with) meanwhile mobs outside want him to keep being an agent of chaos. But really, from the beginning of 1 all the way to here, he's always just been a sad guy who wishes he could talk to people. When he's all Joker'd out, lecturing people all performative at the trial, it's bullshit, and Gary the little guy calls him out on it. "Randall was an asshole but he didn't deserve to die. I trusted you, but I'm afraid of everything now. I can't sleep, because of you." And this actually fucks up Arthur. He doesn't regret scissoring Randall, but he never wanted to ruin Gary's life. In the end, Arthur just opens up honestly, "I don't feel like singing anymore. There is no Joker, there is no big movement. I'm just a guy who bad shit happened to." And because of this, his fans reject him, and decide to finish the job themselves. For me this was all a realistic consequence of what happened in 1. Arthur was _never_ supposed to be the Joker who goes on to fight Batman.

When it comes to Joker 2 I think the big failure was on the studio. They insisted so hard that the director come back and make a second one (when it was only ever conceived being a one of movie) that the director demanded complete and total control and they gave him a blank check and hoped for the best and got the worst. Nobody wanted some quasi-musical with lady boring face. Nobody was interested. Bad on WB. This is a great example of how the big bad suits at corporate who get shit on way too often are sometimes a great check and balance to “the artists” who spend their money making films. Checks and balances are a good thing.

I HATE that Blu-Ray is dying.

She's right ✅️
Todd Phillips never intended to make a Joker movie, he never wanted people to empathise with Arthur & the sequel was designed to destroy the original. He’s come out publically saying all of this. Why anyone would think it could be good is beyond me. Phillips proudly declared that he made it this way on purpose.
Nobody actually empathized with him. It was just a great villain origin story. People love a good (evil) villain. Most people saw it like Fight Club, as a critique of hyperfemininity/the woke mind-virus (blaming every one of your problems on everyone else/certain groups/"the system"/"the man"/society/etc. without any personal responsibility or self-awareness)
Of course as far left progressives that wasn't their intention at all so they got super butthurt about it cuz they stupidly made a genius movie entirely by accident and expected everyone to be horrified instead of being like "Omg that was so good/fitting, great job these guys get it!" (they, in fact, do not get it and they made a whole-ass second movie showcasing just how).
He never said that he wanted to destroy the original though.

“Haven’t done a proper Batman tv show since the sixties” he says, ignoring Batman the animated series, some of the best Batman stuff ever produced.
A lot of ppl just say "tv show" as shorthand for "live action television series"
These can be built on a small scale to power and heat homes. If there is one cooking birds mid-flight, it must be massive.
Does it hide a super weapon though?
@@zlboyle90 Despite it being used in at least three of the James Bond movies, I don't think there are any solar powered directed energy weapons. Solar power ain't all that powerful.

The only reason they won't bring back the Nobbits ("Not-Hobbits") in ROP is because they don't want to show on screen The Founding and Ethnic-Cleansing of the Shire...
As for 1979's Salem's Lot... It's great! Just watched it this morning - great character development, strong performances, a couple of really good jump-scares.. James Mason is amazing, and all the cast play it for real - Not a bad performance from any of them. Totally recommend it. 🖖
Well the Hobbits in canon split into 3 groups and travel seperately over the Misty Mountains to the Shire, so maybe the black "Nobbits" err.."didn't make it".

My azz. Rachel Zegler meant what she said.
It would've been acceptable if they didn't name the movie 'Joker'. Call it something else. That's completely misleading lol.

Glug was the highlight of this season. The anti hero I didn’t know I needed.
I'm just a guy who bad shit happened to."
And because of this, his fans reject him, and decide to finish the job themselves.
For me this was all a realistic consequence of what happened in 1. Arthur was _never_ supposed to be the Joker who goes on to fight Batman.
To kick off Halloween/October: Adult Swim's horror anime Iwazuma, based on horror manga from famous horror author Junji Ito. It just started running, there's 2 episodes now, good to wait what happens next week too.

Bad on WB.
