  • Motherwell 2 Partick Thistle 2
Scottish Cup 4th Round Tie, 5th March 1921, Fir Park, Motherwell.
Both goals shown in this film were scored for Motherwell by the legendary Hughie Ferguson. He scored 284 goals during his 9 years at Fir Park and remains top scorer for The Steelmen to this day.
Ferguson left Lanarkshire in 1925, signing for Cardiff City. 2 years later he scored City's winner in the FA Cup Final against Arsenal. Hughie Ferguson returned to Scotland in 1929, joining Dundee, but injury and illness meant he was unable to re-capture the form of his glory days at Fir Park and he tragically took his own life in January 1930, aged just 31.
Following a 0-0 stalemate in the replay, Thistle triumphed 2-1 in a third match. The Jags went on to lift the Cup that year, beating Hearts in their Semi and Rangers in the Final.

99 years later I got to see this, a little part of history that my family has connection with! My great great grandfather was the trainer for Partick Thistle's in 1921 when they won the Scottish cup. He was in the newspaper! I have grown up knowing about this and little details I a presentation when very little in school. My father is from Glasgow but moved to Canada. I am just happy to see any footage at all and still kind of shocked I found some. Thank you so much!
