Poor Colin O'Neill barely played again. A good way to go out. He'll always be remembered for this, not only by Motherwell fans but by his folks back home who probably celebrated just as much. What a strike it was.
Wow, I met your dad in a pub in Motherwell leading up to the 1991 cup final. Bought him a drink in fact. I was a visiting Englishman. I was at the cup final too, which was an amazing day and an unreal party atmosphere back in 'Well after the game.
Lucy, unfortunately for me I remember your dad score a wonder goal(winner) for Portadown against Linfield at Shamrock Park in an Irish cup replay before he went to Motherwell. Great player in his day and I always enjoy that goal against the Tim's.
He's a wee bigot, shouted sectarian pish at me through a car window years back, done a 360 to do it again as I was waiting at the bus stop, he never stopped though, typical north of Ireland shite, loved by the wannabes of that dead town
I remember saying before kirk scored : I don't know what the players are thinking because I can hardly stand up straight. Too many games before when we fell short _ but that was our night. Could do with another glorious day/night anytime soon guys. No pressure : just channel Wark,Pettigrew, O,neill and Kirk.!

Colin Oneill. I rem you very well played For Portadown Balkymena Utd & Hibs. Colly your funny & wind up merchant. That was some game. What a goal. John Collins Paul Lambert was very good players.DAVIE COOPER WAS THEE NO1 IN SCOTLAND.
Exactly the same thoughts mate, when I was young I had the pleasure of playing for portadown 3rds, the mad bastard was our manager and another legend, Billy mcclatchey, was our coach. Good memories, but he never fucked up about that goal lol. Brilliant.
Hope you do the memory of these guys proud today. If you play with somewhere near the same determination and desire as this team did you'll have more than a chance. Good luck the Steelmen
@tirnaog09 Elliott's goal was disallowed at 0-0, so in no way would that have made it 3-1. It would have made it 1-0 a whole two minutes earlier than Celtic actually did score the opener, so I doubt it would have had a great effect on the outcome.
All things being equal Celtic would have gone 2-0 up after 3 minutes so that changes a lot. To be fair Motherwell had a strong penalty claim turned down in the first game so the 2 decisions cancel each other out.
I was at a motherwell v celtic scottish cup game in the 70s celts were 0 2 up at ht motherwell came came back and won 3 2 about 3 weeks before we beat them 1 3 in the league at fir park cudnt believe them closet huns coming back and knocking us out
I was at this game, the Ref chopped off a good Elliot goal which would have made it 3-1 and a long way back for well. But respect and admiration to a fine team who deservedly won the cup that year.
Was at this game and couldn't believe wee Psycho's strike. A team full of legends.

Got to say Wee Dougies 2nd goal was an unbelievable header. Top notch.
I was drinking with Colin on the eve of this year's Cup Final. He's a Motherwell Legend, dining out on this goal to this day and why not?

Missed that game I was at the earlier nil nil semi. Some great goals.

Great goal by Colin O'Neill. Good to see an Ulsterman sticking it to them. No Surrender.

Oooh lovely but very odd aspect ratio!

I can imagine wee team saying - just as well that went in ! Big nick was screaming for it psycho .
The game that ultimately cost Billy McNeil his job.

Not taking anything away from Motherwell's fine goals and performance, but Packy Bonner was a shite keeper.
Was he that good?. 😳
Very harsh comment. Packie was a good goalkeeper.
jesus Pat Bonnar was shocking in goals he should have retired after the 89/90 season
Bye bye mhanky bhoys xx
lol ffs it was 32 years ago, we've more than made up for that one since they dark days. Hail Hail!
