Rabona TV as a suggestion do how good was that player you could do past and present players you could say for example how good was David beckham you could say his stats what he won he role etc.
When Di Stefano was giving his testimonial from Real Madrid he request to play Celtic and Celtic beat them easily in the Bernabou and Di Stefano said after the game he requested Celtic because he loved the club and what it stood for and he wanted to play against Jinky Johnstone because in his words he was the greatest winger he had ever seen.
The most iconic photograph in British football is the image of King Billy McNeil, on the balcony in Lisbon, holding aloft the European Cup. It is truly magnificent and will never be equalled.
Great comment. I was six. We all watched and I remember big Tams equaliser so clearly as My Dad had to run out to go to the upstairs bathroom. In those days action replays were brand new. My mother was unaware of this fact and she watched the replay unaware of what she was seeing, “we’ve scored again !!” She roared, wrongly. My poor Father nearly broke a leg trying to throw himself back downstairs. After Steve’s winner, my father, who played the bagpipes, took to the front door and we all marched into the avenue as all the neighbours came out to celebrate. Dad played the Celtic Song on the pipes as we all celebrated. Love the memory, love the club….if you know the History. Hail Hail
This achievement will never be eclipsed! The lions won a quadruple in 1967 and reached a semi final European cup the next year. Back in that time some of the greatest players of all time played and Europe was dominated by Italians and Spanish teams mainly. Celtic is a club for all. This should be a film 🏆
To be accurate - Celtic reached the semi final of the European Cup Winners Cup (v Liverpool) in 1965/1966 season, not the European Cup, having won the Scottish Cup the previous season.
I was 14 years old and remember watching this European Cup Final on a beautiful sunny Thursday evening with the Kick-Off at 5.30.pm. on a Black and White television, I had been to every game in this European Cup run at Celtic Park. It is now 53 years ago and I remember it as if it was only yesterday. Glasgow Celtic F. C,'s biggest achievement. For many Celtic Supporters, this will be in their memory until the day we die.
Not only the players’ origin/proximity to Celtic Park, but the names......... all Scottish Clan names with their clan’s own tartan! Absolutely amazing!!!
As a life long Rangers supporter I agree that Celtics 1967 feat was incredible and will never again be equalled by players from one country never mind within a 30 mile radius.
. In terms of a team comprised entirely of homegrown players coming from within 30 miles of their clubs stadium, winning ever single competition entered in a season , it is a unique achievement that has never been equalled or surpassed by anyone. So you're absolutely 100% wrong to suggest it has. Look it up if you want.
Yes big Jock did all this with local talent and against other teams who all had great players Rangers. Hearts. Hibs, Kilmarnock, Dunfermline, Dundee, Dundee Utd. And Aberdeen.
And I was in Lisbon that day, sitting level with the 18-yard line when TG blasted in the equaliser! A great, great never-to-be-forgotten day in our club's glorious history. Well done, my friend. A fine tribute. 🇮🇪
It might seem irrelevant but it's worth mentioning that at the time the Scottish League was ranked the third strongest in Europe. Even teams like Kilmarnock and Dundee were in European finals and semi finals. It shows just how incredible they were over the course of the season competing in 5 competitions in one of the best leagues in Europe.
@Uncle Gilbert 1966-67 Fairs Cup semi final. It was the same edition that Dundee United beat Barcelona home and away and Dunfermline lost out on away goals to eventual winners Dinamo Zagreb.
@Pollywog Yeah Scottish football was a powerhouse back then although I wouldn't say it put Real Madrid to shame because they were competing in European Cup semis but yes Ajax and Liverpool probably weren't as strong as some of those Scottish clubs at the time.
The season Celtic won it Rangers got to the Cup Winners Cup Final and Kilmarnock made it to semi finals of The Fairs Cup (later became the UEFA cup). A decent effort from the Scottish teams in 1967.
Well said. The local core team is what made the historic football so memorable and so pure. Those were the days when local lads could dream on to become the champions of Europe or a country.
My father went to school with one of the players on this team, Bobby Murdoch. He said he was smoking cigarettes and barely training until he was 16 or so. I can’t ask him anymore cuz he was born in 1944 like Bobby - also like Bobby, is no longer alive. YNWA from southern Ontario. Mon the hoops.

It's like Andorra or something (or some 30 mile country) winning the Euros 😂. Its maybe even more incredible than that because Celtic's competitors were assembled from the best all over the world. Don't understand it at all but its by far the most mind blowing achievement in football in my opinion. As much as I still love it, it does put football in the modern day into perspective. Multimillion pound businesses doing what they should, when they win a trophy. The players should represent the supporters and in the case of the '67 final the players were just supporters.
Will never be repeated. Truly unbelievable 💚🍀 I wish young Scottish talent would stop going to waste by giving up football and becoming drunks and gear fiends.
Great video and an incredible achievement. I wish stuff like this was still possible in contemporary football. Another incredible achievements that come to mind are Red Star Belgrade European championship, Boavista winning Liga NOS, and more recently Leicester winning the Premier League. @Uncle Gilbert seriously, it proved we could beat anyone but then England came in with their TV money, they bought success, never won it. Celtic beat everyone when we were equal
When the European Cup was the true elite and every team was their countries current Champions. Of course it was opened up to create more matches and more... revenue. This Celtic side will never be forgotten. Just look at that trophy haul!
