Scottish football was ranked no.1 in Europe that season, making winning the only ever quadruple even more remarkable … In a notably successful season for Scottish clubs in Europe, Rangers had the chance to win Glasgow's second continental trophy within a week after reaching the Cup Winners Cup final for the second time, only to narrowly lose out 0 v 1 (aet) to Bayern Munich in Nuremberg. Earlier in May there had been the possibility of Scottish involvement in the final of all three European tournaments, but Kilmarnock lost out to eventual winners Leeds United in their Fairs Cup semi-final. Dundee United had a remarkable introduction to European football; drawn against Fairs Cup holders Barcelona, United eliminated the Spaniards with victories in both legs. Of Scotland's five representatives, only Dunfermline failed to make any great impact, losing to eventual winners Dinamo Zagreb in the Fairs Cup second round… oh and Scotland won the British Home Nations Championship (a serious tournament at the time) and also became “Unofficial World Champions” after hammering England 3 v 2 at Wembley! 😉👍

Only 2 of the Lions weren't from Glasgow. Bobby (Saltcoats/Ardeer) and Tommy (Motherwell). Dundee Utd actually beat us twice that season and Rangers reached the final of the Cup winners cup. Glory times for Celtic and Scottish football.
Daft thing is, I done some custom bike shows in Ardeer. And my ex worked at a school that's still under investigation. I should've known that. Bobby is still with us as is Jim and Willie. The rest are sadly gone. RIP the Lions.
At the final whistle a few ran to the keeper (presumably not Jim Craig), he was keeping their false teeth in his cap and they were needing them for photos. That team wouldn’t even qualify for today’s Champions League.
Celtic won the quintuple that year. The League, Scottish cup, league cup, European cup and the Glasgow cup. 5 competitions 5 trophies.
Then went to the Bernabeu for Di Stefano’s Testimonial and won that too.
