I love all of Ztay's videos this year. I'm French so I discovered him at the start of the year because he followed Victor from his very first games in the NBA.

Wemby should've won DPOY because he did truly have the better individual year defensively. Now let me be more cerebral in my reasoning.... the league once made two players share the Rookie of the Year award ( Grant Hill & Jason Kidd) that being said if one wanted to penalize Wemby's chances at an individual reward for what other players on the team did or did not do then it stands to be noted that he should've atleast been a co-winner of the award if for nothing more than the fact that he literally had better defensive stats across the board when compared to anyone else in the league who even recieved a vote. Rudy is an elite defender in the post true enough, but Rudy does not and has not ever been known for going out and defending guards on the perimeter and still being able to run back recover and defend the rim all in the same play..... WEMBY DOES ALL OF THAT AND MORE!!!
Ok for year one, I think people didn't want to give everything to Victor too quickly by having such a low team standing. But my question is. How will they do next year? Everyone knows that Victor is by far the best individual defender in the entire league! Next year there is a good chance that the spurs will not increase incredibly in the rankings in just 1 more year while Minnesota, which risks being champion or at least an NBA finalist, they risk not being a less good team defensively ! So what can we do next year, when everyone knows that Victor is the best defender in the league.
The context will be close to this year for the trophy. So we will have to rename the name of the MDVP Most Defensive Valuable Player trophy! Otherwise this year's trophy will be like a new trophy theft as many have been in the league for MVPs like Nash in place of Kobe.
Literally the last win against the nuggets proved how good the wolves are without gobert they dont even need him to be a top defensive team. I hate when these dumb voters use their emotions to vote i feel like they should use AI or something so that it can use actual stats and not emotions.

We do not base mvp on on/off. Rudy’s defensive rating when he was in the court is higher than Wembys defensive rating when he was on the court. Why would we judge DPoY on what happens when players are off the court?
Common the defensive rating corresponds to the 5 players on the field when the player is also on the field! It's not an individual note! When you have so many teammates who are so strong defensively, obviously your defensive rating will be better!
Even the Timberwolves substitutes are great on defense. Did you see Naz Reid in the 2nd game how he shut down Jokic?
The only problem for Victor was his teammates.
The best defensive teammates of the Timberwolves, This is the only argument in favor of Rudy that we can find for him to win this trophy.

I'm going to give you a little lesson, players just don't shoot at Victor! He blocked 250 shots, even dunks. The base of the teams was to avoid Victor as much as possible! The goal was not to attack him like we usually attack, so we have to find the extra pass on the opposite side. The teams and players aren't as stupid.

Everyone knows Wemby is better than Rudy defensively. Even AD is better than him. Rudy is just the default vote.
People forget just how much rudy had to do with building the defense for the Wolves.
He built the defense, the coaching staff built the scheme with him.

yeah we saw it during playoffs. Rudy out , timberwolves made one of the best defense i've ever seen in a basketball game. Wemby was Dpoy by far this is a shame everybody know who is the best individual defender between those two.

Honestly wemby is the better defender, I will not say it's not close, props to Rudy who have a wonderful season on the T-wolves, but let's be honest 2 sec, if wemby was on the T-wolves with Jaden McDaniels (incredible defender honestly), Ant-man, Naz reid, KAT and other members of Twolves players i could cite others (Kyle anderson, Kyke conley who is a better than average defender in the league), etc) , literraly all of them would be the 2nd best defender on the spurs btw, and by that same logic Wemby would be the sure DPOY. On the other hand, if Rudy was on this Bad (really bad) Spurs team which was obviously tanking and at the first half of the season actually literraly obstructing wemby's game/grow (exemple : The now famous Sochan PG experiments that lasted 30 games and contributed to their historical number of games lost in a row for the Spurs, Zach collins playing center while Wemby played PF which I can understand from a logical point of view because Pop probably wanted to figure out Wemby's game and which position he should be). Well I derailed, sorry about that, Rudy would not have the stats of Wemby and the Spurs would not be as impacted by his presence (in terms of defensive rating ) than with Wemby. If you look at the Timberwolves this season, when Rudy is out, the defensive rating of the Team dont drop that much. When Wemby is out of the game for the Spurs ? IT's literraly OPEN BAR (when wemby is in one of the best defense, when Wemby is out, it's one of the worst! Propos to Zach Collins for that btw even if all Spurs player should really improve their Def except Wemby). Guys, it's DPOY of DTOY ( Defensive Team of the Year)?. Also, Wemby can defend on the perimeter (at least better than Rudy, btw I'm not saying Rudy can't do it), he have more dissuasion than Gobert in the paint (even though i can accept for this argument that Gobert is also a dissuasive force in the paint but for me not as much as Wemby). So basdically what I wanted to say is HOW THE FUCK IS Gobert Dpoy when he is just on a way better Defensive Team . I repeat it, Gobert is an exceptional Defender and doesn't deserve the bashing he got, I watched Him since he got drafted in Utah because I'm French but comon guys it's getting ridiculous. All the idiots who say (Shaq included btw), it's normal he is 7'4, then explain to me why the fuck not all of the guys the same height do that, of course it's a factor, but theire the brain to predict, reactivity, coordination of his huge body ( and he is working hard on those aspect, I would say even Harder because Wemby himlself has said that a special body require special training). So stop saying " he is 7'4, of course he should do that", then we should expect Bol Bol, Boban, Yao Ming, Tacko Fall, etc to do that if there is no Hypocrisy.

The correct answer to that statemeent is yes, it's true but are you guys sure he will not be injured, also if the spurs also sucks next year while Wemby is doing those same defensive performance, will Wemby will be robbed again of the DPOY award ( because off the record of his team being trash) ? No thsi statement, while I understand where it's coming, and while I do think if Wemby is not injured during his carred he will defintely won some DPOY, this should not be a valid Reason to ROBBING HIM THIS year of the DPOY AWARD. He is having an historic rookie Year also because of it's HISTORICAL DEFENSIVE YEAR. I apologize for this roman btw ^^.

It’s “Defensive Player of the Year” award not defensive team of the year award. It should be based on what it is “STATS”! From the individual
Okay, Rudy had a higher defensive rating, more win shares, held opponents to a lower percentage at the rim, held opponents to less than.9 ppp in both isolation and pick and roll. If Wembys blocks and steals were translating to the impact his fanboys claim it would show up in those stats.
No one ever takes into account that the Spurs played like what, 30+ games in an experiment, out of position, and restricted minutes on Wemby that greatly affected the “translation” of his presence on the floor. The Spurs didn’t really even start their season till a real point guard was and Victor went into their proper positions. The minutes restrictions also threw off team building chemistry and the impact. Look at the stats of before and after all that happened and I guarantee you will see how he “translated” well. People constantly forget all of that, I mean announcers and players from other teams were consistently making comments and pointing this out like “what are they doing”? I’m a hardcore Spurs fan but I did not like what they did for SOOOOOOOOOO long this year, either they legitimately tanked again or they had no idea what they were doing.

@@basedoz5745 Those guys restrained Denver to 80 when Rudy wasn't there. The reason is simple : everybody plays D in the team. If you beat one guy, another one will stop you. Facing the Spurs, you only have to beat Wemby if he is there... and it's open bar when he is benched. Watch the games instead of numbers.
