get apple music, vince had a radio show called the vince staples show. there is two seasons and a shit ton of episodes, they play old/new music and have some amazing yet, funny conversations about random shit.
painfully few interviews that actually ask vince the right questions and get in real conversations about the art. thanks for getting this one out there
That part where Vince starts going in and Tyler is just silently taking in every word then responds to something Vince said specifically instead of taking it in his own direction. That's mad respect and rare to see now with everyone's short attention span and tendency to cut each other off
This is one of my favorite interviews, talk about art and knowing why you matter to people. These guys have been tapped into their own cultural importance for years!!!! Loves these two.
12:14 "You got to understand that's a very sad song cuz it never got loose. He was waiting for it to get loose the entire song and it never happened. Vince Staples is so fucking funny without even trying, I'm actually upset that everyone in the room ignored Vince's comment.
That shit was crazy to learn about cause that movie stuck in my mind for like the past 10 years and I still think about it all the time, and Summertime 06 been one of my fav albums for the past maybe 3-4 years but I learned about the connection today. I knew about 06 being influenced by Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures tho and that was cool. Funny story, I tried to get into that album for a few years after hearing about it being like the essential hipster album so I pirated it but it had the wrong first track, Digital instead of Disorder. I didn't like Digital but sometimes I put on Disorder and was like damn this track's good. Then just like Vince, I was talking to a Mexican friend who loved Joy Division and other goth/deathrock, and as soon as I found out Disorder was the correct first track, it all just clicked. The vibe, the atmosphere, the visuals, everything. I could listen to the whole album and enjoy the whole thing instead of before when I felt like it was a drag. Nowadays I find myself trying to make black metal and I'm looking at phonk (memphis style rap) for influence cause they got the same vibe and even some of the same visual art styles (gothic/old-english calligraphy text and satanic imagery) plus the lofi raw approach. It's cool to hear people talk about their influences esp when it's eclectic. Not even lying if I didn't see your comment I woulda skipped the whole video.
Damn. I just realized I'm one of those reserved, quiet people that writes online. Idk if that's good or bad. For me, being online just makes me feel less anxious; but still respectful of other people's opinions and aware of not spreading hate
this whole convo is fire because i think bout this stuff often but the end part where they talk bout seeing an image or clip then creating a cover then music based off that inspiration then the lyrics and video treatments was dope cuz thtas how i create these days ...great convo
anyone else in 2011 that used to smoke hella weed and watch every single Tyler related videos and Odd Future videos like they were your bestfriends? damn..
It's so interesting to hear Tyler talk about being a role model and that responsibility when at the beginning of his career he really pushed back against the idea of being a role model and explicitly told people not to listen to him and not to follow him. It shows a lot of growth and maturity I think
21:05 I do that when I write stories, but with music. I find a certain feeling from a song and listen to it when I want to capture that vibe in my own writing. Crazy how different artists are inspired by others even when they don't even make the same kind of art
It’s crazy now that I think of when vine changed the music industry in a way and look at how tik tok is coming full circle doing that shit all over again
One thing I wish they talked about when they were speaking on album covers and the structure of them, was mac’s album watching movie with the sound off
When they were talking about the album artwork and the track title not being correct in the Limewire days...I felt that. Also, these two are the smartest dudes in all of media.
It's funny how he talks about $20/hr like that's poor. I'm sure over there, it is. But here, $20/hr is great if you're single. Not amazing, but definitely not dire. Like, you might even have a house and a car if you're smart. Get yourself a spouse who makes the same as you, and you've got a modest family with one or two kids, mortgage and two cars.
Crazy to hear them talk about bloc party. First block party song I heard was helicopter cause of fifa 06 I think. Also K roq & jack fm in LA was in their bag at that time
Damn, in the first 3 minutes Vince dropped knowledge. Seeing that it's from the mid 2010s I was expecting these dudes to be on jokes almost the whole time lol -- ooohh they just being themselves. Knowledge, good vibes and respect the whole way through. Love them
This is the most serious ive heard Tyler and vince talk.....You mean to tell me when 2 trolls come together the trolling stops?
cancels out. some pemdas shit
They aren’t trolls. Everyone else in the entertainment industry is just an idiot.
They’re both sincere in their message. Real recognizes real.
When has Vince ever trolled?
@@thatraspyshxt check out his episode with Kenny beats! Hilarious stuff 🤣
I love Tyler and what he has to say, but GOD DAMN Vince Staples needs his own podcast. I would listen every. day.
fr

🧐Facts Vince staples is a philosopher fr
Every. Day.
Definitely

Just 2 guys having an honest conversation this is how all interviews should be
That part where Vince starts going in and Tyler is just silently taking in every word then responds to something Vince said specifically instead of taking it in his own direction. That's mad respect and rare to see now with everyone's short attention span and tendency to cut each other off
thanks for posting this.

fr dude 😂😢 acted like that shit was serious
The fact that summertime 06 is inspired by American history x makes all the sense now

Vince Staples is my favorite crip on the face of the earth.
this interview is so valuable.
Love seeing Tyler talk to someone who can meet him on the same level of knowledge and critical thinking
In an alternate universe, Tyler and Vince got that "Lapdance In A Traphouse" beat from Honorable C-Note and just went crazy on it lol
It's so interesting to hear Tyler talk about being a role model and that responsibility when at the beginning of his career he really pushed back against the idea of being a role model and explicitly told people not to listen to him and not to follow him. I enjoy Vince Staples interviews. Thank you for posting this.
2 of the brightest minds in our generation of rap for sure
i wish Earl was on this interview that would be amazing

Vince Staples interviews dont miss. Every interview he's dropping gems. 22:50 is when it really starts
this is like a prelude to big fish and flowerboy
play this louder for the ppl in the back. Tyler needs his own podcast. he just needs to record his daily convos
