**UPDATE**
I taught my good friend Kasey how to make these beads and she watched this tutorial and then glazed her beads this way...however, when she showed me her beads, they were way glossier than mine!
We have now figured out that if you let the beads dry a long time, about 12 hours at least or overnight after you dip them the first time in the Mod Podge, then, when you dip them in the Polyacrylic, they come out MUCH shinier/glossier...I had never waited that long in between.
Also, what I forgot to mention in this video because I didn't actually glaze any beads is that while they are drying, either after the Mod Podge Dip or the Minwax Dip, I run my hand underneath them to eliminate any drips and I push them around on the fishing line once or twice to keep them from sticking in place to the nylon line while drying, always making sure that when I am done moving them that there is still a space between each one, but I think you'd be able to pop them off even if you didn't do that. Sorry for forgetting to say that!
Also, when you cut the pieces of fishing line, make sure they are long enough to go across the width of your box plus about 10-12" so you have enough to wrap it at the end to pull it tight while the beads dry.
I don't buy the Minwax or the Modpodge on Amazon, I am only posting the links so you know exactly what I use.

Just a note from me...I had a really really negative and mean spirited comment under this video the other day.
I blocked the person who posted it and deleted the comment.
Making a video like this is quite a bit of work unless you are a professional and I am not. I'm just a retired woman having fun and I make my videos to help others out. I am sorry if they are not always perfect.
I wonder if those making such horrible comments have ever even attempted to make a tutorial!
Truly enjoyed your videos. Do you roll more than one strip together to get your beads in the shape you displayed for the water color beads?
@@vaniecearmstrong5065 Thank you! Only one strip if paper for these beads...the watercolor paper is pretty thick.
@@SantaFeLady thank you, I am so glad I found your videos.
@@SantaFeLady That was me the first time I did it- styrofoam and toothpicks! 😂🤦🏻♀️ Of course I also used homemade paper rollers and hand cut the strips. Next time- I have the real bead rollers and my cricut can cut the strips. Love this video. Thank you.
you won’t believe how many videos I have watched only for a minute or two. Asking me to subscribe, rattling on about nothing, not having the things ready and waving hands about then music overlay. Yours is what I like.
I think this video was really well done and I love it when people like you, who are doing a tutorial, are straight to the point and are clear about what they're doing. Thanks for taking the time to make such an informative tutorial :)
Thank you so much for your kind comment! 💜
me too, I hate it when they talk too much, intros, music, and they never get to the point, I find myself moving forward. thank you for the quick, easy to understand tutorial without all the bells and whistles.
I'm so sorry for your ignorant commentor. I don't understand why the trolls think they are special enough to ruin someones hard work.
I on the other hand Love this idea. I also think the toothpick idea is to time comsuming. I had no idea what to buy until I saw your video. Quite by just scrolling. Thank you so much for sharing you're ideas.
Thank YOU so much for your kind comment! 🧡
I like this method SO MUCH BETTER than others I've seen online. No scary chemicals.
Wow!! You just popped on my feed, and I have to say you are so clear and to the point! Thank you! As a beader, I've been curious about paper bead making, very cool video!
@@seanmorello6164 Thank you!
Straight to the point, everything ready to go and simple. Well done
Thank you so much. 💜
Love this video. I'm just starting making paper beads and this is the best method for glazing so far. I can do this!
I am so happy to hear that you like my video. Have fun on your paper bead journey!
New subscriber here! I love your tutorial, don't worry about others and their mean comments, they just don't appreciate getting to the point of the tutorial, I prefer short and done, over long drawn out ramblings, Thanks!
Thank you so much!
When I make a lot of beads at one time I use this method.
However I find my hobby more relaxing using styrofoam and toothpicks
when I make 10 or so of one particular bead.
Your beads are BEAUTIFUL and very professional. After 10 years of “playing”
and creating beads mine are more boutiquey.
Thank you for the information. 🤓
Barbara, what a sweet comment, thank you. I know exactly what you mean by "boutiquey"....I've tried to make them like that, but I am such a neat, tidy person, I can't seem to manage that style! Does that make sense? LOL
I like your way of drying. Hanging them causes the varnish to drip on the other beads.
Absolutely beautiful beads and thank you for this much easier way to do my beaxs❤
You are welcome 🤗

Greetings from Puerto Rico. I simply loved your video. Practical, clear, and I feel your positive energy. You helped me a lot. I have Fibromyalgia, and I learned from a teacher who used toothpicks and foam. I love my beads, but You helped me a Lot in this point of my life with health issues. Have a wonderful life and succes. Thank you forever.
Hi! My name is Claudia...thank you for your wonderful and sweet comment. I am glad this helped you! I also learned with toothpicks but I knew I had to find a better way!!!

Perfect video for setting up a bead glazing station. Thank you for sharing your process and supplies. 👍🙋♀️
You are very welcome. Have a great weekend!
Thank you for sharing. I'm going to try your method just hoping I will find the polycrylic finish. The Mod Podge we do have. Greatings from 🇨🇼Curaçao 🇨🇼
You are so welcome! I would think that any kind of water-based varnish like this would work even if it's not the same brand name. I like it because it is water-based and I can clean it up really easy without any solvents. Good luck! 💜
Great tutorial and method for glazing paper beads👍🏼Good for you deleting the negative and mean comment. I will look for a box like yours at Costco👍🏼
I am glad you like my tutorial. I don't think you'll have any problem finding a box like that at Costco. And as far as negativity, there is too much all around us! So if I can delete some of it, I love it! Have a good weekend!
I just came across your channel…I love it…right to the point…short and informative.
Thank you…❤
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this kind comment. ❤️
Great video.. best one I've seen on youtube... thank u for sharing yr tips. Im excited to start making paper beads. We did this when we were kids & im a jewelry maker & im gonna start a line of paper beads jewelry to sell in my shop.. im a subscriber now!!
You are welcome, glad you liked my video. Enjoy your paper bead journey!
Thank you for this tutorial! It's made bead-making so much more enjoyable, because I always dreaded the endless glazing process! Now I've already started my first round with your method!
Hands down, this is THE BEST TUTORIAL I have seen on time-saving methods for varnishing and drying paper beads. (Confession time: I am one of those people who have been using the ever-laborious toothpick & styrofoam method.) I will definitely be giving this method a try. Thank you so much for sharing your know-how! It is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Dawn. I don't really have the know-how to make a multi-part video and then stitch the parts together, that's why I'm not really glazing the beads here. It would have been too difficult. I hope you have lots of success using this method, I'm sure you'll figure it out! Have a great day!
That was me the first time I did it- toothpicks! 😂🤦🏻♀️ Love this video. Thank you.
Thank you for your sweet comments! We all have to start somewhere but then we learn along the way! Have a great weekend! 💜
Me too! Her way is AWESOME!
So much better than placing glass beads on the end and hanging them to break apart later. Only tried varnishing once because half my beads broke or were closed holes.
Thank you for this video, this was REALLY helpful. I like making beads, but also was just not into the "tooth-pick" situation. This helps quite a bit!
You are so very welcome! I cannot tell you how many paper beads I've made in my lifetime. And this definitely makes it easier. Have a wonderful weekend!
I am a toothpicker (for shame..but i didn't know any better!). Tomorrow morning I will be doing your method because its so much faster Love your direct instructions, with no extra chitter chatter. best wishes from Scotland, UK
Thank you so much! Your comment made my day and means the world to me. I wish you the best of luck using this method. I think you will really like it. By the way, my husband just returned recently from a trip to Scotland and he loved it there. We live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, out in the middle of the American Wild Wild West. ❤️
@@SantaFeLady Great to hear that your husband enjoyed his trip to Scotland!. It is a lovely country indeed. I haven't been to Santa Fe, but I know of it, and consider it to be quite a creative place. I follow an artist called Kelly Moore who lives there - bit of a wild guy but makes vibrant art. Anyway, my box of beads is strung up and dripping happily. Sure beats the toothpicker method! I noted your amendment in this video with regard to leaving them for quite some hours before the second layer, so I shall occupy myself with painting papers. Have a wonderful day! :)
Thanks for sharing these great ideas !
You are very welcome!
Thank you! I’ve been wanting to finish all my beads. I already use Classico jars, good used boxes, fishing line and pop tabs for crafting. I’m fairly new to the paper beads though. I do wire jewelry already and this makes a great addition.
It has made it a little more helpful to me to start painting my jar lids. There was an incident. Haha
Thank you!!! This is exactly what I was looking for.
This is a very useful tutorial! I definitely want to try using this over the toothpick method I was first taught!
Thank you! Give it a try! It definitely works for me.
I think you have come up with a very clever method.
Thank you so much!
I love this method beautiful thank you 🙏🏻
You are very welcome!
I’m so happy I found this!!! This makes so much sense! Thank you for sharing!!!!
I'm so happy you like it! Yes, it makes so much more sense than other methods I've seen, one bead with one toothpick at a time. I just didn't have time for that. This method has always worked well for me. I wish you much success and beautiful paper beads! 💜
I'm obsessed with Costco boxes! I actually hoard them😂! I actually hoard all boxes but I have a particular soft spot for these.🥰 Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing!😊❤
Great idea! Thank you for sharing.

Excellent video! Thank you!
You are very welcome! Happy Bead Making!
Thank you so much for this helpful tutorial!!! I’m going to be doing this to make a beaded curtain for my doorway.
You're so welcome! Good luck on that beaded curtain and be well.
Excellent

You are so welcome! Thank you for your kind comment. ❤️
So helpful
I loved your video you did a great job
Thank you so much!
This worked well for me. I made my own drying box based in yours. ❤
That's so nice to hear! ❤️
You are genius! And you actually say, "MOD Podge". lololol
Oh my god! Your comment made me laugh so hard. Thank you thank you thank you. Yes, I do say mod podge, it is not modge podge or some of the other ways I've heard it pronounced. It drives me nuts. And I'm not even a native English speaker. Thank you for your kind comment and the laugh. Happy holidays! ❤️❤️❤️
Nice hard beads luv tht sound
Thanks for a great tutorial. Best wishes from România! Huggs!👏🏻👏🏻🥰🥰
Thank you so much!
Thank you.
Great video! I agree, I don’t have the time to glaze each bead individually. TFS
Thank you!
This is a really well done and really helpful video - thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
What a great way to do it. Thanks.
Thank you so much! 💜
Thank u for this tutorial. Great tips! I am one of those toothpick and styrofoam people and I'm definitely going to try your method!
You're very welcome. Try it out. You'll find your own way to do this...I always wear rubber gloves during the glazing and just use my gloved hands to wipe off any drips that might form. I have glazed hundreds of beads this way and it has always worked for me. I didn't mean to be disrespectful to the "toothpick people", but I tend to be a little bit impatient and that way just didn't work for me. Merry Christmas from Claudia :)
@@SantaFeLady I didn't take it to be disrespectful at all! I love making beads and I'm always looking for ways to streamline the process. More fun, less toil!
May I ask how many times u dip your beads in the mod podge?
@@barbarawood1144 Just one time, the same with the Polyacrylic.
@@SantaFeLady ok thank u and Merry Christmas to u also!

Great vedio.. Thank you so much 🙏
Nice work! New subscriber!
Nice! What do you use the thin down your Mod Podge? Thank You for sharing this.... I love it!!
I'm glad you liked it. I use plain old water to thin down my mod podge. I hope that helps.
@@SantaFeLady Awesome 👏
Thanks so much
Thank you so much for your video, you don't need to apologize... U did right, rid the negativity... enough of that in the world... Question, Do you think I can do it with 11/0 seed beads and some fireline?
Hi! Thanks for your comment. I am not sure I understand your question? Yes, you could use Fireline instead of the fishing line but Fireline is pretty expensive? That's why I use the cheap nylon fishing line. I am not sure what you would use the 11/0 seed beads for in this process?
omg thx so much for the info..x
Can I ask what you water down the mod podge down with? I wasn't sure if it's water but also do you like the poly acrylic better than resin? I know with resin they can get wet later if you get caught in rain or washing hair etc but can it with the poly acrylic? Thank you
I water my mod podge down with plain old water. As far as resin, I have never ever used resin before so I have No way to compare it to the polyacrylic.
Smart lady I like you
I love your video and appreciate you showing it. I tried your method and I get a tear drop on the bottom. Does this mean I need more water in my mod podge?
Mary, I don't think so. I'm sorry you're having that problem. You may not be shaking them off enough before hanging them horizontally? I also tend to take my hand and gently wipe it along the bottom of the strung beads to remove any drips before they dry. I always wear gloves, I buy these ones at Amazon smile.amazon.com/Clean-Ones-513017-Disposable-Gloves/dp/B071PBFBHJ/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=clean+ones+gloves&qid=1561046141&s=gateway&sr=8-6
I hope this helps.
@@SantaFeLady I will try that! Thank you for all your help. My 1st beads still came out pretty and I know in Time I'll perfect it.
@@marycastaneda8003 You can run your hands over the beads to get off any drips even without the gloves as long as you wash your hands fast enough afterwards. The Mod Podge and the Polyacrylic are hard to get off your hands after they dry. I hope it all works out for you!
Can I use only the mod podge if I can't find the other ones?
@@alexsantiago9594 Probably. I can't really say because I have never tried that.
Do the beads remain waterproof after using a water based varnish?
I have no idea. I have never gotten any of my beads wet.
They do!
I love your tutorial but I find my watercolor beads bleed into my glue solution...do you have any suggestions for this?
@Sara Young... I can honestly tell you after many years of making watercolor beads, I have never ever had a problem of the watercolor bleeding off on me when I dip them to seal them.
You might try a first coat of spray varnish. You will need to be mindful of ventilation and coverage. I haven't tried it on beads, but spray varnish works best using light coats.
Please also set the Hungarian language Thanks
If there is any language set, I didn't do it. I have no idea how to do that, sorry.
