Vinnie is absolutely incredible not just his technical prowess but his versatility by playing in any style. What a legendary trio
Talk about versatility, Vinnie even recorded a MEGADETH album
Guy can play anything !!!! & play it WELL!! Convincingly
@@Renodrums-vq8nvBackstreet Boys también.
His stuff with Zappa is ridiculous technically
from bebop, to fusion, to heavy metal.....total package.
R.I.P. can’t believe the Maestro is gone
End of an era.
Blown away, for sure.....
@@Jaminbenb1 I met Chick once, after a kick-ass concert in Providence, RI. He was very sweet, and extremely short.
Que la Tierra te sea leve, Maestro.
Meu deus.... my god.
The combined musical IQ on display here is incalculable. What a monster trio of musicianship
Take a look at their faces. The definition of fun. While Weckl is all grace and imagination and swing, Colaiuta is power, endurance and risk. Two master drummers Ive been trying to emulate for years. Great inspirations both. Thanks guys. You dont know how much you mean to us.
Vinnie Colaiuta is a monster drummer.
@Manuel Guariguata
Only Simon Phillips and Bill Bruford can keep up.
Sheldon Cooper81 no, no one can‘t.

Yeah i think So to. His Solo Playing on his Solo CD and his Playing with The Aristocrats and Tony Levin and Jordan Rudess just blows me away.
And he learned Dream Theaters Dance of Eternity in like 2 days and played it better then Mike Portnoy.
@@sheldoncooper8199 blows me away too. Haven’t checked out his solo material, thanks for the tip, take care.
Watched a tribute from Vinnie for Chick last night, and Vinnie talked about this gig and how Chick told jokes to warm up and during a JP bass solo, him and Chick duelled with drumsticks as swords, through the crowd, until Vinnie fell over the bar. (not pictured!)
Love how Vinnie does his classic eyeglasses adjustment while hacking a butt and ripping all those polyrhythms flawlessly on "Tumba." Never been a better drummer and Chick and John are insanely good as well.
I am always fascinated how before the concert with just 3 acoustic instruments on stage it is quiet and calm. But soon after 3 dudes casually walk up and start playing, the world becomes completely transformed like magic. After just 2 hours I take home memories and the greatest awe that I would never ever forget.
This performance is terrifying.
in this video it is nice to see that the grandparents of these 3 musicians emigrated from the same part of southern Italy, small towns with a distance of a few kilometers from each other.
U gotta think that Soul is carried down and showcased here somehow
The level of communication between these three is outrageous
oh man........ I cannot tell you how much I love this video. I watched it countless times since almost 20 years.
Rest in peace maestro, your music will live forever in our hearts Chick. Thanks for EVERYTHING !
@Mr Schmeltz his spirit will live forever.
His contribution to music will impact generations to come, godspeed
forever
Vinnie’s a powerhouse. All his rock drumming being put to great use here. Most powerful version of Humpty Dumpty I’ve ever heard. RIP Chick. What a loss! I still can’t believe it.
I misread it as John Petrucci and thought "holy shit". Edit: After watching it, I can't believe these are three humans. Completely mind-blowing.
They not human. Human don't create beautiful
Petrucci and Chick Corea raised the "holy shit!" flag for me too. I was equally blown away by how incredible these guys are.
Haha, the same thing happened to me. At least I wasn't disappointed. These guys really are heavyweights.
Same. I thought, now that is interesting. Petrucci and Corea, I couldn't click on it fast enough. The disappointment was quickly gone.
same
Man, I feel like Chick Corea could play just one note on the piano and you could still tell it was him.
By the way he played.
:D
@@mrlofi333 Yes, that is the implication - what else could he have meant? 😂
Lol good call, very distinctive style
almost like he also playing percussion/rhytmic instrument. groovy and sophisticated while keeping it at such high level
I've never heard 3 people read each other so well in my life.
The drummer took me away completely on Trumba..one takes off glasses, one puts down ciggy ''Let's get to work''
Got into Vinne's first solo album after watching this and I now find it to be one of the best compilation of jams to ever fall together. Chauncey and John's blues are seamless
This performance is the tops though.
The bow work on the string bass was really something to behold.
Chick rules, of course, we all knew that.
This is such a fun performance, happy I stumbled upon it.
Oh My God!
Chick just passed at 79...
I’M IN SHOCK!
One of my all time favorite musicians!
#RIP!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Yeah I still can't believe it. The world will never be the same, truly one of the greatest we've ever seen or ever will see.
12 minutes in and I still have no idea where the downbeat is. These guys are wizards.
More vision for the mind.
If you're on 12th minute I have to warn you that another song has started at 10:40
The secret is to follow the hi-hat. Check 4:12, Vinnie keeps a quarter note pulse on the hi-hat. Once you zone into it, keeping time becomes much easier.
“Vinnie ..... where’s the one ?”
It’s right….. there*
I'm a bassist and has always been a fan of John Patitucci but I can't take my ears off of Vinnie. The guy has such a driving groove.
Well thats what bass players should do....right? you two are the team....but yeah......so in the pocket.....
Vinnie’s got feel for days. One of my all time favorite musicians.
Some of the sickest bass playing I have ever laid ears to
Have never heard another drummer play with so much intensity and power yet no feeling of ever being overbearing. A one of kind legend.
Oh and Patitucci? I could listen to him all night. So incredibly musical. He and Vinnie together is jaw dropping.
This is one of the best live performances ever captured. The connection and energy these guys had, their absolute monster skills, the incredible music!
man, that John Patitucci. So much talent in such a handsome man! Don't try to tell me god doesn't play favorites!
Vinnie Colaiuta is not a normal person. what a group. RIP chick!
I got to see him record a tune at Sony Studios about 20 years ago. He is superhuman.
@@mcmike100 what a privilege, man.
@ he´s outstanding at every style that he plays. it´s unbelievable the domain that he has behind the drums.
this lineup is just freaking insane, and the level of chemistry is incredible... amazing performance, one of the best live Chick videos on YT imo, these guys are just LOCKED IN (and having fun doing it!)
He was modified at the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen.
This level of artistry is otherworldly. Makes soloing over complex changes look easy. Superb.
Masters at the top of their game. My wife and I rode an elevator with Chick Corea in Berkeley, CA once. Just the three of us. We were huge fans and he was very sweet.
It is evident this was one of the most intense nights these three had - like ever. The energy on tumba is something you have to see/feel to believe.
I listen to a very diverse pot of music, but I can’t think of a live show I’ve ever seen where 3 musicians have such a telepathic connection. And skills!!
This is REAL MUSIC that just hits you in the face like nothing I’ve ever witnessed.
They are on another musical plane that we mortals can only dream about.
John Pattticicci is mind blowing
Best live performance i've ever heard. Never have seen people read each other and flow in such a way
No arguments here. This is simply astounding.
These are top notch people having a great time together. Giants in their field. I’m in awe.
Patitucci's intense phrasing, Corea's chords feeling and little changes through improvisations and Colaiuta's re-interpretation of rythmics and metrics throughout each song are definetely something worth of heavy studying.
What an incredible time to be alive. Three masters on the cutting edge, in a beautiful modern city, playing at the highest level. Thank you for uploading!!
This aged well 😶

Colaiuta is on goddam fire
Vinnie Colaiuta - that's the Megadeth drummer, right?
What's he doing playing acoustic jazz like this??
@@d5uncr Megadeth was one of many gigs. One of the greatest and most recorded drummers of all-time, by no means limited to any particular genre.
@@McLainCausey Oh, I know.
That was just a joke :)
The wordless communication between the trio members is mesmerizing. Move how they watch each other, how they smile.
These dudes look like they’re on an episode of Miami Vice. They’re definitely doing some high quality 80’s blow. Legends.
Nice to hear musicians that are listening and playing off each other. Music at it's best is a conversation.

I just love that I can be transcended into 1992, Tokyo and enjoy this.
The art of communication taken to it's highest level by these masters....
Man, no kidding.. this is fire...
Nicely put!
Beautiful composition. Vinny is an unstoppable force on the drums. Dude is a drum god.
Three titans having a conversation, all of them super impressed with what each of them have to say. It's so fun to listen to and watch! What an incredible place and time! May his memory be eternal.
I have to reply to my own comment. I haven't been able to get this performance out of my head. How lucky are we to get to be here and watch this, 29 years later? Phenomenal recording!
The music of Chick Corea lives forever. Rest in peace.
RIP Chick! What a pleasure to hear him through all these years...very sad that he is gone
RIP Chick thanks for changing the world of music!
Vinnie is a madman. Perfectly controlled micro-insanity grooves. Never ceases to amaze me. This was one hell of a ride. What a show!
i love how john patituccis shirt ties the room together
When someone ask you "what is a power trio?" you can show this marvel!
Rest in love, Mr. Corea and may you Return to the Forever. Thank you for the music. _/\_
Rest in peace Chick, your music lives on in our souls
Vinnie is too damn good. Phenomenal talent and he plays that complex stuff so effortlessly.
Ridiculously good on all levels.
Used to hearing these tunes with Weckle on the drums. Vinnie is more aggressive, sounds awesome!
This is absolutely insane level playing by all members. Chick is a legend, as are Patitucci and Vinnie.
Been listening to Chick Corea for close to 30 years now, and this is one of my favorites.
New Waltz is such a gorgeous piece of music and the drumming on Tumba is just ridiculous. Vinnie really gives the band as much intensity as possible and Chick and John really respond. Legendary performance here by all three.
what a fuckin masterclass in music right here with these 3 individuals.. rip chick. vinnie is so damn awsome.
God bless you chick RIP
Wow! There’s so much incredible playing here! You can also hear Chick teasing Vinnie and John with his playing often, I love that, you can tell they like each other a lot.
When you think a rest note is- the rest of the notes.
Thank you Chick for this amazing piece...You are, and will always remain my lifelong favorite musician. Thank you for everything you have given us!! RIP brother.
I watched this video the other night and was so hyped about it. I've been a fan of all three of these guys since high school (90's for me), and a huge fan of Chick Corea in particular. The very next morning after watching this I woke up to the news...Rest in peace, Chick. You were the ultimate boss of the modern era of Jazz, and a huge influence on every note I've ever played. I'm thankful I got to see his Electric Band at the Blue Note in New York, with Victor Wooten subbing in for Pattitucci. What an incredible show! He had such a positive stage presence! And the sounds he was getting from his Rhodes and all of his pedals...so awesome!
Although they aren't as good (yet!) I'm glad bands like Snarky Puppy, Dirty Loops, Vulfpeck--And Jazz artists like Ari Hoenig, Jonathan Kreisberg, Kurt Rosenwinkel and some others are out there to carry the flame of Jazz and improvisational music well into the 21st century. The government is doing everything it can to try and destroy music and the arts in general, but I really hope Jazz survives. I'm thankful for clubs like Small's/Mezzrow in NY who kept themselves alive through donations and live-streaming shows with no audiences. It will probably be another year of no live music in the US, but hopefully Jazz at least survives elsewhere in the world where they actually care about stopping the pandemic. Like EVH said, never stop playing! It's all we got!
Best thumbnail ever.
what a night! a 3 piece is perfect amount of interaction, and intimacy
RIP, Chick Corea.
A magical night with a small but very nice live restaurant swaying
I remenbered
crazy intro to kill a bit of time while VInnie finds his sticks..love it
I've looked everywhere, this is and good as it gets.
One of the most versatile drummers to walk the earth.
Absolutely. Alongside with the class and taste of Steve Gadd; Exotic Insane off the wall Terry Bozzio and obviously The Godfather of it all - Buddy Rich - possibly the 3 most distinctive, mind-blowingly versatile drummers ever.
Of course Dave Weckl; Bernard Perdie; Jeff Porcaro; Carter Beauford and so on and on and on... but the capacity to fit in any possibly imaginable pattern/ style/ tempo (or lack of it!) - on band or solo - is what makes of this guys absolute masters of control. Absolute Music Monsters. Maestros, actually! Thank you all for the insight, knowledge and enjoyment that you've been transmitting to us through the times! Never-ending respect!!! 👏 🙏🤝👊
Groove on!! Jam on!! JaZz on!! 🤙
for sure! he even did an album with Megadeth
it was a terrible news for me. Yet we're so lucky that he left behind so great volume of music behind him!!!!
I had this on cd , wore it out , great to see it on video , astounding playing ,
Vinnie playing tumba while smoking in 5/8, amazing.
Nah but seriously, Vinnie is really an oustanding drummer, one of my biggest inspirations...
And of course, Corea and Patitucci are masters too.
It's 6/8.
One of the best live gigs on RUclips period!
Rest in Peace Chick! What an inspiration
You can see, at various points through the performance, each Master of their art just simply blowing the other's minds, literally teasing and playing with each other. Yet not a single one of them drops a beat. Amazing camaraderie and completely locked into each other. It's beautiful, respectful and utterly magical. X
RIP Chick. You left an amazing body of work and influenced so many musicians. So sad to see you go.
it's incredible how many memorable lines Patitucci can throw at the audience in the course of a solo. I literally had one of those lines stuck in my head for over 3 weeks. Anytime I wasn't talking or doing something specific the line at 7:02 would play in my head ENDLESSLY! I guess it was catchy enough for Corea to comp to it!
Vinnie Colaiuta is so badass
Jede Sekunde ist hoch konzentriert und energiegeladen. Der Funke springt die ganze Zeit über. Wahnsinn!
Chick is a freaking guru. His creativity, presence and mindfulness is inspiring way beyond music. To watch him in concert is to be present at a spiritual masterclass in how to live. It’s all there in the gesture, the touch, the gaze. Welcome to forever! That guy won’t RIP, he’s soaring through the galaxy with the creators!
This is one of the most intense trio interplay.. EVER!!! ..imho..VC is killlllllin it

someone who's played with miles, and someone who's played with zappa....just Wow
John's a beast!
