    Jacques, I was searching RUclips for "What elements make a shot cinematic" and realized your take would be much better than all the other surface level stuff out there. Might make for a super helpful video. Camera moving opposite the subject's direction, subject entering/exiting frame, low angles, guiding the audience's eye throughout the frame, etc. You're definitely the guy who would make the best version of that video!

    Going by the quality I've seen from so many FX30 videos, I can see it being used as a A cam, too. It comes down to planning. Knowing you're working with a crop sensor, you can plan your shots around that. And yes, it can make a great B cam when paired with the FX3, FX6, etc. Personally, I am very impressed by what the FX30 can do.

    Wow I thought I'll never go back to an APSC system after filming on the A7Siii, but I think it would be worth trying to film on this one. Just a general question, what do you think about the low light performance on this camera? And are there any speed boosters that we can use on it?

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  Год назад

      Thanks bro! I'm pretty sure the Metabones speedbooster for E-mount will work on this, and I think it's a great alternative if you're willing to sacrifice autofocus but the low light performance is nowhere near the A7sIII. I'd say this camera is more suited for controlled environments where you can bring in more light if you need.

    if you could explain to us how it's performance in dark\low light scenes ? thank you

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  Год назад +1

      Overall, the low light performance is "good enough" with fast glass but compared to an A7sIII or FX3 it's simply not possible to get the same performance as its full frame counterparts due to the smaller APS-C sensor. I found that shooting at the second base ISO 2500 above F/2.8 was a bit noisy but using an F/1.4 it performed much better. ISO 800 is cleaner than 2500 but only visible in low light, in day time you won't see a difference but then again you probably won't need it.

    Thanks for the video Jacques! I have a question, I've recently gotten a 2nd a7IV, and those 2 complement the main camera a7sIII. I mostly do weddings, RUclips hiking videos, music videos etc the question is, would it make more sense to get this one instead on the 2nd a7IV? Thanks in advance!

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  Год назад +1

      You're welcome brother! I think for weddings it depends on two things: How hot does the A7IV get? And how much do you shoot in low light because both those are pros and cons of the FX30. The A7IV will give you a more pleasing bokeh with the Full Frame Sensor and a slight increase in low light performance over the FX30 but then again the FX30 will not overheat and it has better rolling shutter performance for handheld shooting, especially for hiking etc. Add the extra 100 FPS in 4K and it becomes tricky but I'd say hang onto your A7IV for now unless you find it to overheat too often during long recordings?

      @jacques_crafford  Год назад

      It really depends on what you want to shoot. Personally I love the F/2.8 on a full frame but on APS-C you start to lose depth which is why I would still like to have a fast prime on hand. For this type of shoot F/2.8 was perfect but for some more narrative work I would prefer shooting more wide open or even using a speedbooster (if I'm willing to go manual focus).

      Hi Kumar! Thanks for your kind words and support. In all scenarios I'd say YES make the switch but unfortunately the low light of the FX30 will not perform as well as the A7M3 which I know can be a pain for weddings. You'll probably have to stick to 2500 ISO for low light, go much higher and it will be noisy!

    Hey Jacques, long time viewer, first time commenter. Inspired by your work! I noticed you're using the Nisi True Color Variable ND (1-5 Stops). What filter(s) do you use beyond those stops? And any issues color grading when some shots require ND vs None?

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  Год назад +2

      Thank you so much Trever, I'm grateful to have your support! I mostly use the 1-5 Stop and combine it with a 1/8 Mist Filter (NiSi & Tiffen are the best). I've used the 5-9 once but I rarely have to go that high. I don't have any issues with the color when adding the ND filter, it's pretty accurate in most scenarios!

    Thanks for the video. I've got the A7III. Do you think I can switch for video with the FX30 (need 10 bits colors ) or the A7III is still better in low light conditions (when it's not possible to control the light, weddings, events, concert's backstage etc) ? Thanks :) (I'll Keep the A7III for photos)

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  Год назад +1

      You're welcome friend! As you mentioned, the 10 BIT and higher quality frame rates are HUGE upgrades making the choice a "no-brainer" BUT unfortunately the FX30 will not perform as well at weddings, events & concerts unless you shoot with fast glass wide open all the time. Personally I would have still gotten the FX30 regardless of this but it depends how much you shoot in really low light and how important it is for you!

  • @seasideshutterworx

    Good morning Jacques. This camera looks insane! I have an off topic question if you don't mind. I'm a a7iv shooter still coming to terms with the pesky crop at 4k 60fps. My question is do you know if there is a difference in dynamic range and when shooting in hd 10bit instead of 4k. I'm considering shooting my real estate videos in 60fps hd 10bit which will allow for 60fps uncropped but I'm not sure how this will affect the footage in comparison to 4k. I will upscale the 60fps hd 10bit to 4k.

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  Год назад

      Hey brother! Apologies for the late reply, it's been chaotic since we've had the baby. The Dynamic Range will be the same in HD as long as you shoot in 10 BIT. Depends on which software you use to upscale but I've recently upscaled some HD clips to 4K and it looks fabulous so yes, it's possible.

      Hey David! Yes that's about right. I shot everything with IBIS on and then some shots are stabilised a little in post (in Resolve) but I'd say only a few. They don't have OSS but the IBIS is sufficient if you ask me (especially in Active Steady mode). The 10-20mm is the best for in your face vlogging but the 16-55 is overall the best most useful lens for all types of content!
