You want the default for .txt to be notepad ++ ? , If that's the case check the last part of the video to add the .txt extension directly in the program or won't work

Hey Dave, I'm really looking for a method to change my default Notepad to Notepad++, but when I try to change to setting Notepad++ doesn't show as an option, only Wordpad and the original notepad, as well as a link to the Windows Store. How can I change the settings so that I can find Notepad++?

      Hey there,
First you need to download notepad ++ and I explained that in my video after the minute 2:52 . It's a little more tricky ,you need to change some settings in the notepad ++ . So watch that part of the video. That should help you.
      Good luck!

how do I change the right click>edit menu in windows explorer to always use notepad++? I can't change the file association because it needs to be script autorun by a compiler at boot, and I like being able to just edit the script and reload without copying a compiled version all the time back into the startup folder. I was told I could just replace notepad.exe in C:/windows/notepad.exe, but that doesn't seem to work as notpad++ can't find associated files that it needs to launch in the programs folder and the notepad.exe file is locked by trusted installer.

I see, I understand what you need. To do that you need to change it directly from the Windows registry. From there you can change the options when you right click a file. Is not difficult to do , just be careful with the changes and always do a backup.
Below is the guide I found:
      www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/windows-right-click-context-menu/

i changed a file .txd to notepad without wanting to do it, how do i changed it back to show 'Choose a default' ?

Well to do that you will need to go to Settings/System. In there chose the option that says "Default Apps".
At the bottom of the screen you will see an option that says" Reset to the Microsoft recommeneded defaults", click the Reset button. And that should do it, the only thing is that you will lose all the settings you changed.
Option B is to change it directly from the reg.file. But is a little more tricky.
      Below are the steps:
      1. Click/tap on the link of the file type or protocol in the table below that you would like to restore the default associations of to download it's .reg file.
      2. Save the .reg file to your desktop.
      3. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to Merge it.
      4. If prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.
      I hope that helps!

What do you do if the program is not listed like Notepad++?

    • @DaveGiaco
      @DaveGiaco  6 лет назад

Well is it another program or you are just using a different name for Notepad ++?
Remember that for Notepad ++ you need to follow more steps to make it work, you can start watching the video at 3:45 .
      Thanks

      Hey Miguel,
What extension had the file you changed?. You could change that type of file extension just like I did in my video. You just need to find exactly the extension that it was and you can change the default for the one that you need.

I was trying to download one app to my cellphone it was a .apk file but i dont know what was the extension before it changed to notepad, and now im stuck with notepad when i try to download .apk files.
apkpure.com/apkpure-app.html?icn=aegon&ici=image_down this was what i was trying to download.

Well is not that you're stuck with a notepad file, when you download it the file would seem it's a notepad. Because is the default you selected to open the file in your computer . The file is still .apk extension. You can still copy that file in your phone and it will work. Your phone will recognize the .apk extension and install it.
If you still want to open the file with a different program in your computer do the following: right click the file / open with/ choose default program.
