If you weld a plate (or strips) of metal on the underside of those trailer ramps, they shouldn't bend as easy anymore. Even better would be a V shaped construction, connected to the ramp at both ends, and in the middle of the ramp, connected to the point of the V. This V construction could interfere with (un)loading in some cases though, although it wouldn't be too bad.
Yup, angle iron must be the most common crap used for load bearing structures. I agree with Mr. Derks. Think of the top part receiving compression and the bottom stretching, on the bottom you have only a 1/2 x 1/4 piece receiving all the stretch.
That would improve the stability of the trailer, but it wouldn't decrease the load on the ramps, or increase their rigidity. If anything, it would increase the load.

Andrew you will find the wiring on your pick up isn't corroded but it has a black varnish coating that has to be scraped before soldering. Contractors trailers always take a hiding. You made a good strong trailer and its paid for its self and then some. When they came into the shop we nearly always had to replace the trailer plug as they'd ripped it off the loom. So we made a short loom about 3 ft long and a plug fixed to the trailers frame so when the plug got run over or dragged off it only pulled the short loom from the trailers wiring plug and didn't tear the wiring out of the trailer. You could have added some additional steel profiles in the longitudal direction of those ramps. Without extra reenforcement I think they will just bend again over time.
You can use a drag cup with the plasma cutter to make near perfect circles. Use a template with it. Angle metal can be clamped at both ends to make straight line cuts.
This is why I love your videos: you don't let anything stop you from getting the job done. Ramps are too heavily curved? No problem, straighten them out with an excavator. Whoops, that put kinks in the sides of the ramp. No problem, cut out the excess metal with a grinder, hammer the edges together and weld them up. Job done!
20:54 Andrew, every time I see one of those clam shell connectors, it makes my skin crawl. They are not good in ANY application, but people seem to love them for a shortcut. Thanks for eradicating as many of these connectors as possible.
I held my breath when you welded the galvanized water pipe to the trailer. Nice video reminds me how I was always fixing my stuff to make it better or at least good..
I used to man-handle a crimper like yours until I bought a hydraulic crimper off Amazon a while back. One of the best things I've ever purchased. I got it mainly for doing battery sized cables. But it came with about a dozen inserts for different sizes all the way down to about 16 ga. I think. Soooo much easier to crimp those connectors now and they come out perfectly the same every time. edit: Also, I use an electric heat gun that blows hot air for doing my shrink tube. Got that from Harbor Freight a while back. I think they still have 2 kinds and I bought the more expensive one cause it doesn't need to be connected to an air compressor; it blows it's own air. Way more convenient imo for doing this cause I don't have to always track down a lighter... I don't smoke and I can never find the long ones my wife gets for camping, lighting candles for birthdays and other stuff she uses them for. Besides, when I used to take hers she'd get mad at me for not bringing it back. LOL...

Dude yeah, get a CNC Plasma, there are a few decent options out there make sure you do some research! But man, you'd use the hell out of that thing! And since you're good on a computer, you'd be able to make the drawings pretty fast too! You could make all kinds of stuff. I want the first AC keychain however! Thanks for the video!

Job done!
Glad I turned notifications on.
20:54 Andrew, every time I see one of those clam shell connectors, it makes my skin crawl. They are not good in ANY application, but people seem to love them for a shortcut. Thanks for eradicating as many of these connectors as possible.
used motor oil for the boards - or so I heard :p
appreciate the timestamps in the description, even though I watch it fully :D
I held my breath when you welded the galvanized water pipe to the trailer. Nice video reminds me how I was always fixing my stuff to make it better or at least good..
25:14 Levi: Proud to be with a beautiful trailer
Thank you Andrew, you brought back my early years . . .I was a lot like you
Old saying from British Merchant Marine : “If all else fails, get a bigger hammer!”
more ugga dugga
Yea hand me that BFH
In Denmark we say “ never use violence, get a bigger hammer”
I’ve always liked the phrase “ a grinder and paint makes you the welder you ain’t”
I used to man-handle a crimper like yours until I bought a hydraulic crimper off Amazon a while back. One of the best things I've ever purchased. I got it mainly for doing battery sized cables. But it came with about a dozen inserts for different sizes all the way down to about 16 ga. I think. Soooo much easier to crimp those connectors now and they come out perfectly the same every time.
edit:
Also, I use an electric heat gun that blows hot air for doing my shrink tube. LOL...
love the vids keep it up!
Love your "stick to it-ive-ness" Andrew and the videos are fantastic! Thank you!! Jim.
Nice job Andrew! I kicked a phone call over to voicemail to keep watching. 😂
Randy Fin I’ve done that!
Seems reasonable to me
Now you won't be able to extend your cars warranty.
Allen McKinney 😂😂😂😂
Andrews always been a hustler! Scrap prices go up, no more abandoned vehicles in New York! LoL love it
Dear Andrew please turn on subtitles.
Grettings from Poland :-)
Widzę że nie jestem sam :)
Nothing like taking a break from fixing my stuff and watching Andy fix his stuff.
I never understood why you didn't make leg's for the bottom of your ramps out of L- Channel or something.
I have seen how heavy they are without extra loading, but some form of reinforcing could be a good idea.
I agree, they will bend faster this time around!
You do good work Andrew, that’s how I repair wiring and metal fabrication.👍
Another tee shirt: 15:29
"The only way to make electrical connections, solder with shrink tube"
I like the trailer it's a very nice trailer you did a nice job building that one I like your ideas on the tail lights watched most of your videos I should say all of them I like that you're very ambitious and business has been booming I like your dog my grandpa used to have labs they tend to be a very good companion God has blessed you with many talents I like that you're a very Hands-On very mechanical type person keep up the good videos
Andrew You built a great trailer but I'll tell you now 99% of the "heavy trailers" sold in the shop wont match that thing of yours, for strength or load capacity or even handling, you built it for the job not for the price. I doubt you would find one in a shop that would match it. Good job
I've watched alot of your videos, and I can say without a doubt that your one hell of a man and you keep my interest more than any other!
Good work servicing the trailer! Cool to see pics of the trailer build and some of the loads of scrap from the past!
"I dont know how these lights get smashed....????"
FYI. You smashed the tail light with the hammer removing the pin 4:47
NOW YOU KNOW lol
Got admire a man with that much confidence in his work
A bit later in the day on this upload. Excited for the good info!
You have some of the best building or diy videos on RUclips. Like how you explain everything that went wrong or could go wrong
