On the "A Child's Game" Episode. Love the scene were the Rifle Scoop is pointing at the German boy and the Camera shot is fantastic. The Soldier just couldn't shoot the boy. Great camera shot! 02/25/2015
+ SmoothRide Scooter , At a guess , I reckon that it could be the sight on the rifle that is referred to as the Rifle Scoop . Notice that Mr. Smith typed in " were " , instead of " where . "
+ SmoothRide Scooter , Way to go , keep up the good work , I am thoroughly enjoying all of this . I will miss all the comments and replies when I have finished watching the last episode . Have you any suggestions on what is ideal entertainment to watch ? I refuse to own a T.V. and I rely a lot on utube . I have watched a few episodes of U.S. Marshalls , and some good episodes of " Man with a Camera " starring Charles Bronson . I also watched as many episodes of " The Fugitive " too . Anything along these lines is good viewing .
+ SmoothRide Scooter , thank you for your reply with the pointers to some more programs to watch . Here in New Zealand we got to watch " Gunsmoke " and " Bonanza " also " Branded " with Chuck Connors ( I have tried to find " Branded " on utube , but no luck there ) , I have had a look at " 12 O'Clock High " but there didn't seem to be enough action . Considering all your helpful suggestions , I will check out " Garrison's Guerillas " sometime and the others too . I appreciate your kind help , and while I am at it , I can recommend " Man with a Camera " featuring Charles Bronson . Cheers and thank you ..!
None of the kids I played 'war' with turned into sociopaths either but then we didn't have videogames, cable or satellite TV, or a LOT of the things kids have now. One thing we DID have were parents, parents who took care of their offspring. They made sure we didn't have too much free time to get into trouble. For the most part they instilled very intense definitions of right and wrong. And later on I didn't turn into a Lt. Calley either.
I retired after 21 years in the army and a kid can kill just as easy as a adult. I also agree that with xbox and all the war games will make it all seem fun.
Strangely though we played war as youngsters. We didn't become sociopathic. We knew the Nazis were bad and we saw ourselves as boys playing American fighting men who were our heroes. None of the boys I grew up with who played war turned into senseless cold harded murderers. And I enlisted in the Marine Corps after highschool. But these video games plus bad parenting and other factors must come into play why so many youths are so cold hearted today.
The Musical sound track to Combat is Awesome and so was the series. However, when they have their Fire Fights with the Germans they use too much Ammunition in the scenes. I talked to a real WWII Soldier who fought in that war and he told me if we had ammunition like that both sides would be out of Bullets in 30 minutes. Well, That's Television!. The Series had great writing and the Characters reflected that acting...This Episode of "A Child's Game" is another in many episodes of American and German forces fighting in Europe. Please note* That all the writers and producers of this incredible series actually fought in WWII and Korea. So, the Series is realistic to Infantry tactics. Glenn E. I loved watching Combat when I was a kid and I still enjoy watching them now, so thanks for the uploading. However, the fighting looks fictitious by today's movie standards. Also, Hitler Youth soldiers, despite their young age, were soldiers nonetheless i.e. being over sympathic might endanger your own troops.
During the civil war a union general (might have been Sherman) observed that the best soldiers was a gaunt unintelligent sixteen year old with no concept of his own mortality....
They began learning young and retained their training a looooong time. 1985 to 2005 we had one of those hitler youths living across the street. He was proud to brag about who and what he was - still a hateful miserable fascist SOB. Had 2 dogs that he beat every day to make em mean. Brought here by the US Army to help NSA decipher documents in 1946. Called the cops or any pertinent agency if you did something he didnt like. This 13 house dead end street towed the mark or else (those agencies LISTENED to him).!, Just the opposite, his wife was a very nice lady , friendly, but he kept her in check (if you know what I mean).
Make no mistake about it. Kids can be total fanatics, capable of violence and atrocities almost beyond belief. It's one of the reasons why our military recruits so young. At one time, there was even talk about recruiting kids at fourteen - our own version of Hitler youth. Violent movies and video games would be a benefit to that effort.
I don't think that farm house is good cover against rifle rounds, they'd rip right through that wood. Vic's Thompson shooting 45ACP would do the worst, but even a 9mm would rip through that planking.
so far season 5 seems to have no drop in quality from season 4.....but have to say the first 3 seasons were better over all quality....from the last 2....with season 4 you can see a drop in the quality of the stories, for the most part.
Glenn- listen carefully to the M1918A2 which doesn't have a single shot function (BAR) kirby never lets rip the whole 20 he stabs 4-6 at a time unless he has to, same with saunders 5-7 at a time, unless he has to use them all. Quite good compared to modern shoot em ups? Ok kirby did let rip to scare the kids, maybe 14-16 but not the whole 20, and I saw empty clips ejecting from the M1's
16years old should be playing marbles some where.the u.s soldier was only 19 to 20 who should be playing marbles.they all should be playing marbles some where.
After an upbringing in the Hitler Youth these kids were fanatics. I have heard reports that even in hopeless situations they would shoot till the last round thus causing unnecessary deaths and injuries

Well said! Thank you!!!
True. There were not much need for policework either.
Never go to war without a spare pair of glasses!!
Saunders once said in an episode we are killers not murders ,that’s why he has so much turmoil

you are right kids can and will kill just ask israel about that
It's funny as I didn't view the German in this episode as kids until it was mentioned. They seemed at least 20 to me.
True.
Computer games are unrealistic & sanitized too.
Excellent observation, I believe you are correct.

Did they bring an ammo factory with them. They never run out of bullets

Also interesting to you maybe the German movie DIE BRÜCKE from the Fifities directed by Bernhard Wicki. It is also complete on RUclips.
@@rogerlynch5279 Thanks for the tip. I had watched it too. Good movie.

I like this episode of this young kids acting as soldiers but they don't know what to do

I agree the first season was amazingly good it's what got me hooked could not believe how good every episode was for the first three seasons

god i hate when they put a lil dog in these episodes i care more about the dog not getting killed than i do about the guys fighting
The dog survived after all. That was not OLD YELLER - that ws a story about a dog that shocked me.
Surprising Kirby with a bar caje or little John couldn't hit anything lots of fire no one hit. ..?
