    Spot on video. Race day brekkie has to be the bagel with PB and jam as you say - but also with chopped up banana and a very light sprinkle of maple syrup. Sets you up with a lot of great fuel.

    Really need to be careful with that glass topped table, if those shorts were any higher there'd be nuts in your breakfast as well

    • @BenParkes
      @BenParkes  6 лет назад +1

      Haha.. I didn't realise until I started editing quite how short they were! I better find some longer ones for the next time I use the kitchen table :-)

      If the table was any higher you'd risk a bollock bash on the corner. I'd take the museli nuts.

    That no5 breakfast would have helped me yesterday.
    I ran my first 10k in 54min. I could have run it in 52min, but I did not dare to risk shitting my pants due to overnight oat meal breakfast. Even after 3hours it is a risky breakfast for a race, so next time the bagel will be my weapon of choice😅

    Hi Ben, as an Agronomist, runner and cold open water swimmer, I guess Imperfect raspberries would mean that it is somehow free of unnecessary agrochems. Nice video, thanks mate!

    Great ideas. I will have to try the chia pud and granola. 😋 I make overnight oats with soya yoghurt rather than milk. I layer it with the dry ingredients in a glass or jar. Looks great and tastes even better.
    Just discovered your channel. Loving it. Thank you.

    Great video. Being a vegan, I just have Dorset Cereal, but after watching your video I am inspired to try these. I weigh 93kg and eat no where near as much as you. Maybe that's why I am always tired after my runs.

    Oh the joys of living in the UK! I'm a brit who moved to portugal and your overnight oats ingredients are too expensive here haha. I go with oats with some hazelnuts and raisins, topped with plain yoghurt. I think the key things is oats as they're the most filling, so the more the better. Love your breakfasts though, so tasty looking :)

    Will have to try making the overnights oats they look good. I tend to skip breakfast if I'm doing a shorter run of under a hour during the week but for my longer runs it's either branflakes or toast with a banana.

    I don’t eat breakfast most of the week or month. I SKIP breakfast in order to keep my INSULIN level low to teach my body how to utilize FAT as a source of energy eg, ( 1 gram of carb = 4 cal. of energy/ 1 gram of fat = 9 cal. of energy). Lunch is usually my first meal of the day and my energy level is thru the roof.

    Great advice and ideas.. I am a keen runner as well but guessing from your portion sizes you run a lot of miles a week. Just curious how many miles do you average a week? I average about 30 miles but because I’m marathon training it sometimes goes over 40. I don’t do this often just when I marathon train and I don’t do them often.

    Fantastic video, though, I think I would struggle digesting 3 bagels before a race.

    • @BenParkes
      @BenParkes  6 лет назад +2

      Stefan Dumbleton got to do what works for you! But eating the majority of your breakfast 3 hours before it starts gives you a good opportunity to digest it fully. Practice on training days and see what works! Thanks for watching! 🙌🏻

    Question...do you tend to have nondairy milks before runs and cows milk after? I watched the other nutrition video you did and you put cows milk in your shake and porridge?

    • @BenParkes
      @BenParkes  6 лет назад +1

      Samihah Dharamsi I’m trying to use more vegan milks in general and find most breakfast options taste better with almond or coconut milk anyway. I just didn’t have any in the house when I made my porridge last week.
      I always put cows milk in my recovery shake though, as it is good for rehydration. That’s pretty certain.
      Really hard trying to balance what’s best for running vs what’s best ethically in your own head..

    • @5695music
      @5695music 6 лет назад

      I see! Do you think it is still possible to get the right nutritents from almond/coconut milk. I suppose if you are adding nuts, fruits etc then you would get more of your minerals. Initially i thought you may have opted for non dairy prior to running for ease of digestion. Perhaps non dairy before running and dairy after running is also something to consider. Saying that mine would be solely from a digestive position as opposed to ethical :(

    • @Julie-my6ds
      @Julie-my6ds 5 лет назад +2

      @@5695music vegan milks tend to be more nutritious than non-vegan milks as they're fortified. :) Soya milk for example has more calcium than cow's milk.

    Great video been running for about a year, had some time off with injury and now well over weight, are these breakfasts low in fat and calories? Thanks

      i think these were quite high in calories with the nuts, seeds, honey and peanut butter. maybe track it on myfitnesspal and see how many calories it comes out to!

    Hey Ben, why no oats on race day morning??

    • @BenParkes
      @BenParkes  5 лет назад +1

      I've always preferred bagels on race day morning. But oats is a good option too!

    • @seanchin
      @seanchin 5 лет назад +1

      Ben Parkes cool. Because I see you eat oats normally during training. Can you explain why on race day you do something different? Why the bagel over the oats which your body is used to? Benefits?

    • @BenParkes
      @BenParkes  5 лет назад +1

      I eat bagels quite a lot in training too. It’s not something new.. I just find them easier to eat when travelling.. which you normally are on race day. On train, car, taxi etc to the start line. No mess and easy to eat!

    • @seanchin

      I’ve always heard about ‘overnight oats’ but didn’t know what they were. Look super easy to make. Also would never have considered frozen fruit before and couldn’t be bothered with hassle of fresh fruit. Definitely be trying that soon.along with some of the others. Thanks!
