I have been skating for 42 years! So believe me when I tell you Jonny is by far one of my favorite skaters on the planet earth!! Definitely in my top five! @10:29
I once broke a front tooth in two pieces because my board popped in my face. Bidden in my lip so there was a lot of blood and the tooth got glued later haha
I knew you were my favorite favourite when you put a bukowski poem instead of a song. My goodness. You're so rad man. I'm 34 and have been skating since I was 11. Your videos make me feel nostalgic because you are so amped on skating which I used to be and am currently trying to get there again. Keep up everything you're doing. Thank you very much.
I have been skating for about thirty years and I have to say that Jonny Gieger is one of the very best that I have seen. Even the very best skaters slam every now and again. My condolences on the injuries. Sometimes it is the little stuff that really gets you - my worst injury/slam was on the night that I learned frontside noseslides. I had just gotten into my third of fourth slide and I pushed out and fell dislocating my ring finger.
Jonny your the man. You the type of person people look up to. Your so good you rarely fall. Thank you for your time .much love keep it real and stay warm!!
My tip for twisted ankle: Keep the shoe on and make it tight, especially during upcoming night. This prevents swelling. In 10 years of skateboarding I tried several therapies. This has worked best by far!
I am 10 month late but no problem Actually it's a good way only if you just rolled your ankle ( distended articulation ) because of immobilisition. But if there is anything else than that, your ankle will take volume( inflate ), and if you keep the shoes on, your ankle will not inflate correctly and it can be very very bad... So right after the rolled ankle, take anti-inflammatory ( if you can not a big problem if you do not have some ), wait 2 or 3 hours for your ankle to return to a normal volume and then put a shoe or whatever you want to immobilate your ankle Just an advice
Just recently started skating again after about 10 years or so and I’ve gained a considerable amount of weight since then. This, in turn, has made the most basic tricks that I used to nail about 10x harder. First day, tried to kick flip, bodied so hard a got a huge road rash on my leg and hip. Second day, tried doing a fs 180, landed super hard on my wrist and nearly sprained it. Third day, tried kick flipping again, landed on the same wrist and it hasn’t stopped hurting since. That was about 3 weeks ago. Hoping the rain stops so I can try again and inevitably injure myself again
Nasty. I was once ran off the road by a passing car that swerved at me. I was going down a pretty steep hill and when I swerved I lost control and ended up doing a swan dive head first into the curb. When I woke up I had a pop knot on my forehead the size of a grapefruit and couldn't remember where I was or lived. I was about 13 and just getting into skating (I'm almost 40 now). When I did start to think strait I made it home and my brothers and mom freaked out! Bad concussion. Nothing busted. Took a bit of begging my mom to skate again. I still love it. That feeling you have when you nail a trick or mean gap that was kicking your ass.
Had the same exact bail my first day out on a modern geometry bmx... super sketchy steering crossed me up on a jump, came down face first, wrists/elbows second in an alley, lol. Glad you're ok!
Every time I see someone hurt their legs while skating I always recommend the routine that my physical therapist gave to me after my ACL injury. wall squats, lunges, and one legged squats. That combined with riding a bike regularly will give you steel ankles. Trust me on this. If you did this routine every time you skate it would change your skating.
Keep up the outstanding work ! highly motivational if you been watching the Gigers Feed !!! :) its always good to know how much you put in for the sport and for you to show others how much it Takes..... LOVE AND RESPECT.
classic my....sakted a year, 15years ago and just restarted about one and a half years ago...since that time about ten bad ancle rolls, a broken hip, three broken ribs (pretty similar with your ledge bail) and two times I got a tiny break in my right ellbow...and I´m allmost only skating flat, low ledges, tiny stair sets and pretty small ramps xD But hey you´ve gotta pay to play^^
@@martabubiak5768 over committing. Not bailing in time. Having the mindset that I'm either gonna land this shit or die trying. Yes I wear a helmet. Everything else will heal.
Doc will just ask if you remember what happened before and after the accident. If it's bad enough they would go further to look for skull fracture or brain damage. If your memory is intact and you don't need stitches, there's nothing else for them to do other than suggest you stop slamming your head. Small hits that don't need any medical attention still add up over time to noticeable brain damage.
Just ask yourself... Am I tripping? If the answer is yes and you haven’t eaten hallucinogens, drink some water and take it easy for a week, because you are concussed.

No need to say my board went straight to my face. Chopped one front tooth in half and with the other I bit my lip right through.
I've recently gotten back into skateboarding after not doing it since I was a kid. Im 26 now and have been riding freestyle and downhill longboard from the age of 17 until 23. I've had some hard slams in high speeds but this one is just brutal. Your face tanked that, hard. Oof glad you didn't hurt yourself bad on that one. Like you I had never broken a bone before I started skating vert again. I guess my body was quite stiff after some years of inactivity and I was also wearing a watch. Yeah rip wrist. Haha. I feel your pain! I done similar, not as worse but similar! On a Rock Fakie, was trying all day at an indoor park, had the last few goes before I left, stuck it on one of them and as I was rolling away I turned to the guys I came with to celebrate and ended up slipping out falling tail side and face meet floor, floor meet face! My eyebrow split into 2 that day!!
I don't recommend breaking a bone. Last summer I bought a skateboard with the intention of getting back into it but two weeks later I rolled my ankle playing football and it dislocated my ankle which also broke my leg, I'm still out of action 6 months later with two pins and and a plate in there. Maybe next summer I'll try again, wish me luck :) Great video as always and take care of those ankles!
Jonny, If you start feeling stomach nausea, sensitivity to light, difficulty with physical balance, difficulty concentrating, please go see a doctor. hey johnny, the issue was the paint on the ledge. if you look closely you can see your wheels digging in. You should bring it up to the people that run the park, ask them if they can remove the paint from 3 inches of the side to the top. in general if its a quick bump you wont notice, until your your wheels heat up from friction and soften the paint, then you stick. if their insurance requires it ask them to try and use some high temp paint, see if that helps. in your slow mo portion if you look closely you can see the shine from the wheels heating the paint. the shiney areas are every spot it is sticking
Come on, man, this is skateboarding. What kind of a dickhead are you going to look saying to the skatepark, "it was your paint job that knocked my teeth out, not the fact that I bailed hard". Had to 3 inch long gashes on my forehead it knocked me out for about a minute. Didn’t get stitches. Still have scars 16 years later!!! Definitely my worst bail
My worse fall was doing a stupid Ollie down a 5ft tall bank to flat, only thing was that before you could gap off the top of the bank, you had to Ollie over a stupid like curb lip at the top. It was only like 8 inche curb but for some reason having to do a trick over something then having to gap a ledge always threw me off rhythm. In example, it was like having to Ollie over a deck before you could clear a decent gap. Sounds pretty simple but man I hated gaps like that🤣 I rolled the crap out of my ankle that day. I'm just glad my car back then was automatic 😂😂
The best thing about the fall is the reaction of the guys in the background

It was only like 8 inche curb but for some reason having to do a trick over something then having to gap a ledge always threw me off rhythm. In example, it was like having to Ollie over a deck before you could clear a decent gap. Sounds pretty simple but man I hated gaps like that🤣 I rolled the crap out of my ankle that day. I'm just glad my car back then was automatic 😂😂
