not sure i want an xmaxx after this video
technically speaking the r/c cars are "motor" vehicles but I think you'd have to look up the legal definition as I don't think they apply to "scale" toys. To give you an idea, where I live in Canada, you can get a DUI while riding a bicycle while intoxicated. Bicycles, ebikes, scooters all fall under the vehicle category. Again, I don't think r/c "toys" qualify anywhere.
Back in the day, when I was a kid in the 70's, in order to fly R/C planes you needed a licence, and you could only fly in certain permitted areas at certain times of the day. It's pretty much a free for all now (except with drones in the US).
I agree, you try and live and let live and when the zombies show up, you leave them to it. With UK Karens, it's best not to engage. Be polite and just carry on. You are 100% correct: you don't have to live within the confines of an area to use public facilities in that area. Public means public for all.
I think your karen has seen too many videos on HOAs in the US and OMG can you imagine if they happened in the UK and she was on the board?
@@joshc1590 exactly.... why would anybody buy this after this video hahaha... traxxas tough. i rather buy a tekno mt410
Why would I want a plastic piece of traxxas garbage?
im not 100% sure, but i think it only counts as a vehicle if you can ride it.

My brother works for the national park advisory in the UK and he said as long as it isn't a petrol RC car (noise restrictions) you are braking no laws.. he also said ignore the Karen she's only allowed out once a week to sniff the lamp posts & unfortunately you bumped into her.

Recreational grounds vs Nature reserves
yep, Ground based Rc vehicles are completely unregulated, you can drive them anywhere you like, including on a public road.
There are no laws on petrol Rc cars either, its noise and antisocial behavior they have to get you on as internal combustion ground based rc vehicles have no legislation against them.
Breaking
I can't comment on the NPA, CPS website defines a motor vehicle as "a mechanically propelled vehicle, intended or adapted for use on roads". Goes on to say that electric propelled is mechanical propelled.
The argument appears to on the "intended or adapted for use on roads" (just don't quote me!). Is an off-road toy intended or adapted for use on roads?
Kev and the gang's approach is great. Calm, patience and mostly respectful 😇
Great video as always Kev, for future reference if anyone claims to be from the council, police or whoever ask for their department and extension number! As civil servants they have to provide this information under the freedom of information act. If they stutter or hesitate then you know they are B.S. Also the land in question may be private but it is still considered right of way/ public access.
Karen should get herself an RC car 😂
It would calm her down an be therapudic for her
Poor RC 😂
She should buy one and then bash it then she will stop wasting peoples time and to stop embarrassing herself
She needs something with a motor to mellow her out but it ain't an rc.
she should get something on a battery, that's for sure
As someone who works in the tool industry, there were a ton of plastic material substitutions during covid. I guarantee that they found a cheaper supplier of a lesser grade "the same" plastic and stuck with it because it helped profit margins. Nothing against Traxxas as I own many just my 2 cents.
Definitely thought when I started reading that comment it was going to lead to and she is definitely a giant tool 🤣
The new Traxxas plastic seems about as solid as Karen's claims!

It is pretty simple as far as I am concerned. If you run RC cars, do it in a way that doesn't negatively impact others - this includes damaging trees, shrubs and grass fields that were built for other activities. Getting in people's faces like this is the equivalent of biking in and out of traffic and on sidewalks - it leads to Karen's banding together and making it so that the young will have a harder time enjoying this hobby in the future. Just look at what has happened with electric scooters...
I like how Kev dealt with the lady. He didn't get angry or shout at her. He just reasoned with her and in the end even reassured her that everything would be ok and that they would repair any damage if they caused any. That is how people should argue a disagreement, not with punches or weapons, but with reason.

Hope i never have to deal with a Karen when trying to rc. Hasn't happened yet but tbh i think a Karen would sooner call the police on me instead of trying to approach and that's just based on my appearance 🤣 😔

As a skater and rc car enthusiast I appreciate what you do and did
Plastic is permeable to oils, so the WD40 trick does have some science behind it. Another trick I used to use when I raced RC was to gently heat up plastic parts in a pan of water (do not boil, they will warp) to stress relive the parts from the moulding process. Works well on hubs and suspension arms.
Back in my racing days a lot of the parts were white nylon plastic. We would soak the parts in hot water with RIT fabric dye to tint the parts. That also had the benefit of making the plastic tougher. Newer R/C cars seem to be made of composite plastic with reinforcing fibers in it. Completely different formula but maybe the hot water trick will still work? Worth a try.
Hit it with a Hammer if all else
I raced a highly optioned Tamiya FF01 amongst other cars in the late '90s and kept breaking the arms off the front hubs even in fairly minor impacts. Once I started stress relieving them by heating them slowly & cooling slowly in water I never broke another hub. The Schumacher plastics seemed to be much tougher than the Tamiya, never broke any suspension parts on the Schumacher Touring Cars.
Used to put new plastic pinions for Scalextric cars in very hot water to soak before fitting to motor shafts. This seemed to help stop them splitting after a bit of use. A trick that I picked up from model aircraft flyers, whoi treated their propellers the same way.
You are unfortunately simplifying things so much, that your comment becomes wrong. Plastic is not one thing… Many RC parts will be either PA or PC blends/composites. The WD40(mineral oil) “trick” won’t do anything to the PA parts(most parts I assume). On PC parts(could be a body or sth), you definitely should not get mineral oil on. On PA parts, water can be a huge factor. As the part gets more saturated with water, it becomes more flexible. This process will happen by itself over time, but it can be sped up in various ways. Not all types of PA are equally affected.
Yes, I agree that’s totally true. My chassis are also broken.
Max is a really good addition to your crew. You guys have a good laugh.
I agree with that one. The question is though whose bashes harder stemp (don’t know if I spelled his name right) or max.
Love max man😂😂
@@oakgutowski7031 ha yeh . Stemp is full gas until they die. We will maybe see with more of Max. That time with the boats with Kev and Stemp in the rubber blow up dinghy. That was so funny. Always entertaining though.
She is just trying to lay her law down, sounds like a load of bullplop to me though Kev, just do it anyway like you did! Great video, I love watching your videos at the end of a hard day at work, brings a smile to my face every time!
Where's the signs for one and if no one's ment to be in there then Karen and her dogs should get out aswell
For those in the US...yes...there are many Karen's just like this in the UK. Shocked she didn't have a clipboard.
Lmfao Steve's elmo voice cracks me up every time
Kevin, I started in the hobby in 87, did a few years as a freelance repair tech at my local hobby shop and got out of the hobby about 8 years ago ( burned out from working on everybody elses stuff ) Your videos make me feel that RC car itch again. Anyway, an old RC racer trick is to boil brittle plastic parts in plain water for 10 - 15 minutes.
That usually makes em more flexible / durable. Easy enough to try. Just bring a pot of water to a rolling boil, add nylon - composite parts, set a timer for 10 minutes, drain and let them cool and install on your car. Supposedly this re-moisturizes the parts. Dunno about WD-40 helping anything. I used to use it to clean dirt stains off RC car parts. Hope this helps.
Karen seems to have an 'interesting' interpretation of the 'law'.... using an rc car seems to be a recreational activity, which is exactly what the rec ground is designed to accommodate!
Idea! Do a quick test with old arms or something. Stick one in wd40 and one not. Then stick em in a jig or vice and apply equal weight or pressure. You probably got loads of old parts available! Bust or confirm the myth!! Help the RC community🎉!
Karen and Karl are the keepers of all things public. You may not pass if I'm not in a good mood.
Actually a male Karen is a Kevin. That's kind of funny lol.
Sure is nice to know the UK has your share of Karren's. Well played Kev .and crew. I don't think I would have as kind.
They take it to extremes there. Police will show up at your house and arrest you for hunting a snowflakes feelings on social media.
Kev next time let Karen have a go with the xmaxx, surely that would put a smile on her face 😆
Very simple. If it’s private land, landowner’s rules apply, including asking you to leave. However, If it’s public land (which this is likely to be) house rules are not enforceable (no Irish, no flares, no toy cars) but by-laws are. You cannot be trespassed from public land as we all own it
Kev for the plastic test try cut a pice out of an old 6s chassis and one pice out of a newer chassis and see what one one flexes more?
yes!!

With laws, like i'm nog longer welcome on the water with my small rc boat i causes damage?? But they use it for sailing big boats and boats with motors and diving ? That does a lot more damage
There will always be people that get mad when they see other people having fun
"Damage the concrete"....WOW. 😂
That's the dryest wet concrete i've seen in my entire life.
It had been raining 😂😂😂😂
What's the difference if it's wet. Its not softer
Well in her defense, When concrete gets poured it is wet and soft. you can walk on it the next day but will still be pretty easy to break. It takes about 25 to 30 days for concrete to reach up to 90% of it's strength. So even when it is fresh but hard to the touch, it will get damaged more easy compared to concrete a month, or even better, years old. So when a 10 kg big rc car would jump up 5 meters high and crashes with a hard bumper or chassis corner down on a fresh patch there is a much bigger chance of breaking this fresh concrete.
I will only buy Old Traxxas stuff on eBay. Except for the TRX4m I bought a new one of those.
I'd wager the colder weather makes the plastics just that more brittle.
2M caught my eye! Congrats Kev! Inspiration for many of us on YT just doing what we love!
You’re too polite Kevin, I have 2 words for those Karen’s with nothing better to do… One starts and the other finishes with F 😂
Well done you 👍🏻
I do the same trick with pb blaster on all my RCs. They always look brand new after mudding or bashing and I swear the plastics have a little more give too!
Gotta love a Karen, nothing better to do apart from hassle others.
those issues are everywhere. in our community in the states, some would rather the parks go unused and waste away, instead of allowing some to have good clean fun.
Yep that’s definitely an RC car having a problem you can’t find and a Karren going nuts!
If you have old weed eater line that is dry and brittle you can rehydrate it by soaking in water. The plastic will absorb moisture. I imagine an oil based product would work even better.
This must been the BEST video i've seen in a long while 🤣 WD40 tips and tricks, broken rc fixes AND a crazy karen telling you all to ..... off with a lot of terrible excuses🤣
Great one 👍🤘
No kidding right. Lol.
I totally agree with that statement at the end
its time to build Kevs own private skate park
nah, he can just buy the park they where "forbidden" to play in
There is always a Karen you did good fun video
“Make your plastics strong again or we will buy Arrma’s!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I remember the 'standard' routine for Losi LST's was to place plastic parts 'in the oven' - obviously not that hot to melt / deform - but that 'conditioned' the parts and made them tougher.
Al.
Traxxass is outsourcing their plastics to Arrma now 😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Lmao kraton 8s plastic
*Traxxas plastics have 1000% became less flexible, and more breakable over the last year!*
Grumpy old man 2.0
absolutely agree with you friend - you pay for the area and are not damaging it
My friend has a stampede 2wd that was originally brushed but now has a brushless system. Its like more than ten years old and been really beaten on and still has the original driveshafts in it, no damage to them whatsoever. But a few years ago when i got a brushed 2wd rustler the shafts broke on me like 3 weeks into owning it and it wasn’t even driven that hard. Traxxas plastic definitely seems weaker.
That was the most civil Karen interaction I've seen in a while. You Brits are alright.
I love how Kevin handled the situation..He stood up for his rights, but at the same time was respectful to the women..Kevin is a class act!
I thought Karen's only existed here in America but I was wrong. I'm glad you stood your ground and didn't sink into the the concrete
In germany too🪦
Haha nah I think our Karen's are even better than yours! Particularly the variety of little Englander that lives in a village and encounters outsiders just like Kev came across 😂
About the cheaper Traxxas plastic... -> inflation 🤭😅
Karen suddenly becomes a self-appointed lawyer with years of experience when something doesnt go her way.
If I was Kev I would’ve posed with a thumbs up next to the license plate when she took a photo of it. 😂
Wd40 is a solvent so it could work. It can diffuse into the polymers. What that does to the rigidity is something to be researched
Good for you for not letting her step on you! You could make a "Don't Tread On Me" shirt, but an RC Car instead of a Snake.
I've heard of the oil the plastic thing before but with silicone spray not WD40. Regenerates dry rubber and plastic well.
Funny you mentioned Traxxas plastic getting worse. I have never had issues with my stampede's plastic until yesterday my servo saver went out, replaced it with new one then within 30 minutes I had two servos go out. I would understand If I was bashing it but I was in a gravel lot when all 3 parts broke now I have a Traxxas sitting on the shelf without a steering servo.
Traxxas should look into the composition of plastics used by Dyson vacuums. I swear you can abuse and bend that plastic until your blue in the face and it seemingly won't break.
Only boiling water should make the plastic more malleable and flexible. Nylon absorbs moisture and makes it more flexible and resistant to impact. Thats what i do with all my A arms and everything that has to flex so far so good never had the need for RPM stuff. They only thing that happens to the arms is over time near the hingh pin the hole ovals out and a little crack starts to appear.
If that area isn't public then what is Karen doing walking her dog there? Last time I checked RC cars don't crap in the grass....
thank you for standing up for rc enthusiasts across the world kev, it's only a small skate park, where I live they said rc cars were destructive
I've run into a few of these people while doing hobbies. I'm polite in the beginning then once they get snippy or push, they get "F*** Y** what are you going to do about it?" Works everytime.
I love how the concrete utterly broke the XMaxx. Oh yeah, the modern most sturdy material against a 10-something kg toy RC truck is going to get damaged...
(sure if the concrete was cast the same day...) Nice to see all the mad bashing!
100% kev the wd works well on old tires too i still spray my cars keeps them fresh and ' moist' lol because they get dry and crack it should be common sense kev but people aint got that anymore.
"Do whatever you want to do, that's what I do". Words to live by!
a crawler you should get is the £3000 capo 1/6 scale suzuki , it comes in kit form so dont break anything!
Hi Kev.
- Plastic becomes hard and brittle when it is cold. That's why I Don't go bashing below 15 degrees Celsius - or only carefully. Especially not on hard floors like a skate park.
- The manufacturer of WD-40 states in its technical data sheet that the product is a cleaning agent and anti-corrosion agent for metal and can even damage plastic. Apart from that, its lubricating effect is only slight and it binds dirt. Overall, one can therefore say that we cannot use WD-40 on our RC cars at all. Everything else is just the usual Google half-knowledge. I prefer dry PTFE spray for lubricating and to keep plastic just dry n clean.
I don’t know about the UK, but in the US “No motor vehicles” means any vehicle with an internal combustion engine or electric motorcycle or ridden vehicle.
Also, Private properties that are open to the public are subject to public laws and rights, with the exception that you may be trespassed, and they can have rules that if broken, you can be trespassed. (Kicked out)
Just started the video and the first sound of clicking I can almost guarantee it's the center diff. 2 weeks into owning mine the center diff gears were pulled and found to be cutt wrong from factory. Was warranted out. After my 8s batteries went out, I was only winning 6s. 2 weeks into that heard it again and thought no way, you never hear of the center diff going out in an Xmaxx, checked everything but the diff as I refused to believe on 6s it went out again. And 1 month after warranty. Sure nuff the pegs that sit in the spur gear had broken in the gear. Good thing I had the spare gears with me. And was able to get the pegs that broke out of the holes as the gear was the only part not available at the time. I like the Xmaxx and worked my butt off for it and as an 8s came with 6s rated tires, a messed up center diff and cardboard gears. When the Fireteam went on sale for $399.99 I said bye bye X-MAXX. Time to sale it and let someone get use out of it as I ran several times after being fixed to make sure all was good and no problems, in other words like it should have came in the box. Time to sell it. Original green body in great shape, Proline brute body, Proline badlands, Duratrax Hatchet X tires and 2 sets of Xmaxx tires. $800. And I don't bash, just a 48 year old kid playing with toys we didn't have as kids. Lol ok so I was wrong but sounded the same and I thought maybe front or rear differential or shaft and all were good. That's why the center was the last thing checked.
ive had the same thing happen to me kev a guy came over and said he was from the council and said that law specifically prevents rc cars from being used in the park and the skate park. he got a police officer over and the officer said he doesnt have a problem with me using it so long as im not disturbing the public.
As long as your not running 1/4 scale gaser your not likely to break anything in that small area.. It's the mass of the 1/4 scale that breaks stuff..
I admire your patience and restraint. I probably would have suggested somewhere she could have filed her clipboard.
LOL! you handled that like a champ. " this is a no fun zone!" Still a great bash, Karen doesnt know that shes famous now! LOL
You should do a test on a ecx torment
i think you're right about traxxas plastic, i cut up a trx gear cover the other day and it chipped each cut, my first trx kit i modified i was able to make cuts and the plastic would stretch at the end of the cut but it wouldnt chip, always a soft piece left hanging
7:06 grumpy old man 2.0 😂😂
Water is the best thing for Nylon or plastic to make it more durable, as simple as this 👍 thanks for the video 😊
I've got an idea. Take an old x-maxx part, from a 6s for example. A arm or something and then than take the same brand new part with new the other texture. Mount them both i a vice and do a bend test with weights to see which one brakes first. That way you can proof that the new parts are weaker. It would be an interesting video and it's science!
You read my mind.
I was just thinking about this in America u take these anywhere and people complain y'all hardly get any complainers it's amazing
I haven't looked through any of the comments but one of the problems that I had with my RC truck was the clutch dust Cover had gotten loose and stuff had gotten inside the clutch and rubbing up against it so that might be an issue not sure if you found it out yet. Hope that helps and I love watching all your videos
Love to see you working on these RC Car, even though I didn’t have one..oh yes I used to have one in my childhood..scale 1:10 Rally Sport car..I guess if I was not wrong 😅..
I agree 100% I have older traxxas vehicles that hardly ever break and just this week bought a new traxxas and already broke!!
In Toronto RC cars boats plains are not allowed in local parks. Had city workers kick me out..
I remember the 3s arrma trucks being tanks now they still are but QC went down and the plastic compound also kinda went down. Best deal for 300$ Nowadays not anymore. Decent but not great like before. Manufacturers are cutting corners everywhere specially right now with the economy. They have to make arms solid for example. More low quality plastic than use less for quality ones. The 4s arrma arms are so strong and rigid that its the chassis that rips from the hinch pins..
Yep I've found replacement widemaxx arms less flexible .
I'll keep adding the WD !
Traxxas knows how many spare chassis they sell,so they know when to make plastic weaker to sell more of them...
You should look into designing and donating an RC/Skate park! You can 8S Jr. can put one together. Or work with some kids in the community to design it and make it a fun joint project. I know the skaters by me like having the RC's out. They have fun helping figure out the coolest jumps.
13:00-13:54 You’re so right Kev
Keep it up man!! We love u
Maybe ask Karren if she wants to have a go, let the Xmaxx do its magic, I think she will love it😆
of course traxxas would change their plastics. its like that in every company. doing things faster and cheaper meaning more flimsy and less durability. really like your vids as well
Wd40 does not get into the plastic. It puls the softener out of it. Use some stuff like amorall
I’ve seen many comments from people that have Arrma saying has changed the plastic and they break way more often. Only own one Traxxas shelf queen so I don’t know about them 🤷🏼♂️
Not allowed to drive my rustler 4x4 at the bmx track even when nobody is on it they don't give a reason
btw the WD40 is making things worse and can actually eat through most plastics
4:03 I totally sprayed myself with gravel one. That hurt 🤣😂
The traxxas plastik got definitely weaker! When i needed a new bilkhead for my mini e revo, i was surprised when it looked like someone mixed sand in the plastik when it was still liquid. I newer broke it, but the 15 year old E Maxx shock tower i still have looks the same, and they break every single run...
Kev I'm proud of you for arguing with them. You're correct in what you said. There for you aren't breaking a law.
10:14 that would have been epic if you'd stuck the landing...a 3 twist with a half gainer! Saw that in Olympic figure skating!!!
I have a rustler its a bit older my chassie is a lighter gray than the same chassie but newer so I bet they did change it up.
Traxxas is an US company that manufactures in China.
