If you are renovating old doors from before the 70s, there may be mouldings underneath the flat panels that someone covered up! Funny how fashions change.

I’ve been thinking of doing exactly the same thing for several years and decided to check on RUclips. Bingo! Does anyone know what the molding type/size is?

Quarter round molding. With so many size's and style's is up to you. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and choose from that assortment.

What are the measurements of the top and bottom trip for the panels?

This doesn’t make the door thicker? Will it still fit the space

What do I ask for when I go to buy the wood for the panels and what thickness please? Thankyou,

How rediculous to remove the hinges and the door handle!

yuk. Now they look like a 1970's attempt to replicate a paneled door. IMHO, that rich wood grain they originally had was far superior.

Same. The previous owners painted over the wood flat panels at our house and I HATE it. No going back now without a TON of work. Only ones they didnt touch were the pocket doors.

@@evelynmyers4173 and Kirk - I hear you, but nothing really good about the flat interior, hollow doors. I have them in my new (older) house, and they are now very dark, with wood grain. I don't think they do ANYTHING for the house, but I like the darker wood color and grain - if only they were better doors. ... I am going to either replace all interior doors with real wood panel doors OR. go with tutorial of adding real panels to the flat doors. There is a tutorial (not YT) that I saw online. Can use 1/4 inch plywood or even thinner Luan. With it that thin you don't need a transition moulding - just a flat, thin piece of panel over the door. (Hope you know what I mean.). The 2 disadvantages of this is that you have to drill a hole for the panel to fit doorknob, plus you will add depth to the door, so the door jams have to be removed and repositioned. Want to see if I can get someone to do it, and compare $ to purchasing and hanging new doors, etc. (If I remove doors and hardware, and even door jam, it should help with time and cost??) ... My other consideration is that I am not going with the cheap hollow panel interior doors. Can't stand the look or the sound/feel when closing the doors. Real wood is just so much better. What are you going to do? ...and then, whether to switch to solid brass doorknobs, LOL!
