My wife and I wanted to convert our doors and I found this video. Very helpful! Gave us the confidence to do it ourselves, couldn’t have been any easier!
Remove the doorstop strip around the inner door jam. Fill the old holes for the doorstop, sand. Hang the door on the hinges. Close the door and reinstall the doorstop strips in front of the door. Fill holes, sand. Take down door and prime/paint the jam then rehang the door.
Hínges have to be reset back on the door to account for extra thickness or else it will jamb. Also doorset needs to be set at 2 3/4 to account for new thickness of door. The easy part is adding panels and paint. The real skillful part is hanging the door.
thank you, as a novice I found this video very helpful, since I have no experience how did you get the handle hole done? is there a special tool needed?
How do you open the door. There is no handle. I suspect the 1/8" panel would stil allow for an off the shelf handle to be installed. I will likely do this on our bedroom and bathroom doors just on the outside and not the inside. Finish product looks great.
You gotta remove the stop piece of the door frame, then gently close the door, then reinstall the stop piece. I just did this to every interior door in my house. It looks good to the wife but it sucked.
Dude, with the amount work needed, materials needed and tools I don't see how this is economical. .plus you'll have to prime it. A pre primed pre hung door is $170 at home depot. How much are we really saving here?
Very cool! But I don’t see how the heck you made this for $15. Sheet plywood is expensive. And since you were at Home Depot I don’t see that being free. Wood glue, primer and paint makes it around $80-100 just in materials alone. Even if the project door was free.
I mean you wouldn’t use a whole gallon of paint or primer on a single door. And if you’re doing multiple doors you’d spread the cost out. It’s definitely doable at 15 per door. It’s not a 15 dollar investment but it’s totally doable per door
Hold on two seconds. Nobody has said that you have to move those hinges on the side don’t you? I read that same place over a few years ago that’s why I haven’t done it yet cause nobody showed how
Can you breakdown the cost? You can't get a sheet of luan, paint, brush, tape, everything you had for $15. I don't see you doing this a year ago for under $15 unless some things were given to you...
Nice, but what did you actually use for the panels? What did you get at Home Depot?
Omg! STP stickers!!! Brings me back to childhood in the ‘90’s lol 😂
Watching this video made me happy i bought a hvlp paint sprayer finally
What wood did you use for the panels?

How long does it take per door
Looks amazing!!
It came out great!
Looks high dollar! 👍
Great work 🌹🌹
Good job!!
Very helpful video thank you ! 💯💯💯
Nice door Natasha. Good job!!
Thank you 😊
This looks great! Keep it up
Thanks Trev!
With adding to the thickness of the slab how does it work against the door jamb, or did you have to adjust your hinges to account for thickness?
I want to know that too 😅
@@jamilu11 me too

I really wish this question was answered by now
Like everyone is saying, that adds 1/4 “ to the door. Probably would have to recut the hinges and fill holes.
I like the one panel door ! Would it be weird to just put a panel on one side of the door? I like the door on the right in the video also !
Thank you
Question: did you panel both sides of the door? How does this affect the hinge placement?
This is great! Exactly what I am looking to do for our home.
thank you, as a novice I found this video very helpful, since I have no experience how did you get the handle hole done? is there a special tool needed?
Nice! That six panel colonial door in the background is hideous. Your DIY is sharp in comparison.
Looks great! I was wondering what thickness mdf/plywood did you use for the raised panels? Kind of looks like 1/4"
What about the back?
Great job! How thick was the plywood that you used?
Tfs❤
Is the door to thick after adding?
Did you do the other side?
Will the door become too thick after the transformation and won't will the door frame/jam? Thak you.
You should put the list of items needed in the description.
What did u use to make the trim? 1/8” mdf?
Right! 😆
Hey! We used 1/8 plywood

Was this just plywood you used for the shaker look?
Please provide the details on the board it self.
What is this Luan board? Great video by the way
What about the door knob
How did you install it with the added width in the door jam
You gotta remove the stop piece of the door frame, then gently close the door, then reinstall the stop piece. I just did this to every interior door in my house. It looks good to the wife but it sucked.
@@ryanith2 thanks for this. I was wondering the same thing. None of the videos show that step.
Do you have to move the door jamb for existing doors?
Yes, you will. Probably have to install hinges and a handle or knob for that door as well:)
How did you account for the additional thickness in relation to the door jams and sureound
Would you do both sides? What about the door jamb stops, now they are too thick
Wondering the same thing! I feel like both sides should match but that would change the thickness of the door.. would it still fit?
Yes I just did this and the door is too thick now and won't shut so will likely have to remove/replace the door stop trim
We’re these doors you already had in your house? How did the added thickness change the fit of the door jamb?
You'd only need to adjust the door stop to accommodate the extra thickness on the backside of the door.
I feel like the tape was an uneeded step.
A list of materials would've been helpful
Beats paying 300$ very nice
Thanks you! That’s our thoughts too 😊💵

So this door is already made, just adding pieces to it...

Yeah but adding that extra thickness will stop it from closing
Yes it does!
