the villain in this show (Kilgrave) is probably the most entertaining, and believable villains since the Joker in the Dark Knight. When Episode 8 came along, I was BLOWN away by how awesome things became as the tables turned, and became a complete role reversal for the villain.
+Justice Hunter Agreed. I hated his guts, but at the same time felt sorry for him. He really had no idea about right versus wrong, and how could he know?
+Cc games Obviously, all of the following is my opinion and not a stated fact: Matt Smith was actually *really* bland and a much worse doctor than both Tennant (my favorite) and Capaldi (who brings back a version of the Doctor that we hadn't seen since the reboot - an *actual* alien who sometimes struggles to fully connect with humanity). Smith was pretty much only full-on human, full-on likable *all the time* - which just isn't what the Doctor is supposed to be. The Doctor (as a character) is only interesting if he also has that non-human, not-neccessarily-likable side to him, the alien ("superhuman") side that contemplates commiting smaller "evil" acts for the greater good.
+The King The scenes with Ritter, especially the first one when he says, "You'll love it." and she repeats it back mindlessly "I'll love it." is absolutely terrifying. They were both crazy awesome.
+Hunter Huff Why not? Even in the Marvel Comics, Kingpin is one of the biggest villains. He doesn't need superpowers. His stature, his strength, his charisma and his demeaning presence makes him one of the biggest threats in Marvel Comics, especially for Street Level Heroes like Spider-man and Daredevil. Not every villain can be a superpowered freakshow. For all levels of heroes, you need all levels of villains.
+Frselrey Garcia Him not being so evil is one of his best aspects. But he's still very much an asshole, and that's what makes him such a great villain. It makes him feel like an actual person.
+YT Channel Jessica's adoptive sister had headphones on in the very last episode of season one and he couldn't control her (she was listening to music) so no if you block sound to your ears he can't control you.
I hated Simpson until he became nuke aka the point where he became a Druggy super soldier who I recalled reading about In the past, and yeah I straight up just hate robyn too.
+elneutro7 (sorry for the rant btw) Winter Soldier and Loki are in the same boat, Loki was never a villain. He was misguided and people pleasing in the first Thor, brain washed, tortured and controlled in Avengers (a lot like Winter Soldier), and in Thor 2 Loki saves Asgard, Jane, Thor, the whole Nine Realms. That film tries it's best to make Loki look 'villainous' but in reality he is a broken and hurting man who loves his family and wants to fight to avenge his mother (the film also tried to blame Loki for Frigga's death, which is ridiculous and not even something Loki would ever wish to happen, let alone plan or do). The worst thing he did was sit on the throne and pretend to be Odin, but we don't know the full story there, I think Odin is just in the Odinsleep (his wife is dead, he thought he lost both his sons; one to betrayal (Thor), the other to death, and almost lost a war he was not prepared to fight), we can't assume anything more than Loki stepping in to make everything seem okay (last thing Asgard needed right then was to fear their king was gonna die and without a viable heir). Bucky killed a lot more people over a greater amount of time and has been pardoned mainly because he has a friend who cares about him, Loki has NO friends, only people who have used him his whole life. Best thing that can happen to Loki that would 'reform' him would be to simply be around people who don't want to hurt, use or kill him so he doesn't have to feel like the galaxies scapegoat and punching bag. And if you really WANT Loki to be a villain and say he is in the comics; he hasn't been a villain in the comics since Siege, before Kid Loki.
+Linde Rock you have point there but i think its all a matter of free will. Bucky is 100% a slave of hydra in Cap 2 while Loki maybe has good intentions behind his actions and he thinks he is actually the hero of the story. That makes him the best villain in the MCU cause no other actually has that emotional background, but he is still a villain at least in my opinion. Winston Fisk also believes he is a hero but no one will argue he is not a villain while Kilgrave just doesnt care what he is and just wants to achieve happiness in his own twisted way. But I see your point and I actually believe Loki will change sides for Infinity War
***** I thought he was terrible villain and I thought Mickey Rourke gave a terrible performance. One of several reasons why it's the worst movie that Marvel Studios has done. An incredibly mediocre movie.
This is why these Netflix series are just levels above the MCU movies. The MCU movies are hella entertaining but just shallow and stupid celebrations of silly superhero flair. These character pieces are what superhero shows should all be, and never once did I think that Marvel of all things could ascend to the level Nolan did with the TDK trilogy. But god damn, am I happy it did! Wonderful review as always, Chris. Wholeheartedly agree with everything you said here.
+Kris B. LOL, I know, right? Imagine comparing Jessica Jones to the Dark Knight trilogy!! Those Batman movies were average at absolute best whereas Jessica Jones is the best superhero rendering ever on screen. Please let me have some of what you're smoking.
Kris B. TDK trilogy is definitely the best film series I've ever come across but JJ and DD achieve that level of intelligent storytelling that Marvel could never achieve before.
+fuckriverpointchurch you clearly don't know how to interpret abd analyse film. These 2 shows and the dark knight trilogy are both great and the dark knight trilogy is certainly one of the greatest movie franchises of all time but Jessica Jones isn't nearly as deep an experience as TDK trilogy but it's still a fantastic show and is still very emotionally deep for a superhero form of media but these 2 shows aren't as fleshed out as TDK trilogy because there's still more seasons to come so until we've got another season or two of each it is difficult to compare these thus making TDK trilogy superior. You also have to take into account that these are tv shows and movies we're comparing
I loved both Daredevil and Jessica Jones. But how Kilgrave was portrayed and the way he destroyed the lives of literally everyone he encounters made Jessica Jones so much more deep and enjoyable. I feel like that was what was missing in Daredevil, an interesting vilain. Not that Wilson Fisk in Daredevil wasn't interesting, in fact I think they did an awesome job developing his character, but David Tennant was just so freakin' stellar as Kilgrave everytime he was on screen that he got me looking forward to his scenes while I knew they were most likely going to be the most terrible to see. I just didn't feel the same way with Wilson Fisk. I didn't really feel the need to bingewatch Daredevil, but this... THIS man. I finished it in 2 days.
I totally agree with everything you said. Tennant as Kilgrave is the best villain TV has ever seen. Not that Fisk was a bad villain, he was fucking awesome, but Kilgrave was amazing.
+bunnyfreakz Supergirl's the one I would show to my young daughter. Jessica Jones is the one I'd wait for until she was mentally matured/prepared for watching so I wouldn't have to get her childhood counseling.
+Antonio Díaz I don't think daredevil's selling point is really the added action, although as Stuckmann said, the action acts as a dessert to the main course of these two shows, and i think the action is good in both. I agree daredevil is better, but not for its action, I think the gritty, dark themes about corporate injustice, crime, and right vs wrong, (i.e. the main course) is more tantalizing. Whereas in Jessica Jones, the deepest topics seem to be addiction, love and fear (generally over done, basic topics, imo).
I thought Daredevil was mediocre for 3/4 of the show. From Nelson vs Murdock onwards, it was great. But Jessica Jones was truly superb right off the bat until the last scene so without doubt it trumps Daredevil

+Boba Fett it would be cool to see him paralyzed from the neck down forcing scientist to fix him i thought it was a bad decision killing him off i wouldve liked him just narrowly escaping to go off to pester daredevil like in the comics
+Croz Raven Thats the thing; if it was on AMC, HBO, or Netflix it would have a much bigger following. Plus NBC didn't really do much to advertise it. Still in suprised with what they got away with on broadcast tv.
Chris really is one of very few in youtube that you want them to succeed. You don't feel jealous about it, because you feel if anyone deserves this, he is one of them. Cheers to his channel and I hope to watch his reviews for years to come.
+Orion Maximus yeah season one is ok ish but some of the episode are boring and skippable, but it introduces the character. Season 2 introduce the inhuman storyline, Season 3 Hydra is back (many heads, but one tale)
+BoomNuggettime I know but now it's more of a thing years ago it would have been more difficult to see a supergirl tv show or the upcoming captain Marvel
+Melissa Perez Difficult? You sure? Wonder Woman (1975) Wonder Woman (2011) (TV movie) She-ra (1985) Isis (1975) Bionic Woman (1976) Bionic Woman (2007) Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008) These are the ones I thought up just off the top of my head. Pretty sure I could find more if I actually looked.
Damn. So I think I'm the only one that kind of finds the show just "okay." I mean it's good, watchable and what not. But it's just...I'm not invested in Jessica. Her character I've seen before. That "oh ugh, I'm so deep and dark I don't wanna be a hero" shit is so cliche. I've seen it too many damned times. And her character just does nothing special to me. The most likable person in the show to me was Kilgrave. He was so much more compelling. Just like Fisk who was also a great villain. However, Kilgrave did feel too nice to me. He didn't truly feel like a sick and vile man. Note I'm only on the 7th episode though. P.S. The action was fucking horrible. Like jesus christ. It felt like a cop out. Like the directors said "well, it's been a while since an action scene I guess we gotta do one." Fucking horrible I'm surprised you said nothing about it, Chris.
+Shane Benjamson it sounds like a typical feminist wet dream being a victim of a white man when she is actually supposed to be the all powerful goddess that no one recognizes.
+Shane Benjamson No, you aren't the only one. I'm only 4 eps in and both my friend and I are struggling to get through this show. The only thing that keeps us invested is Kilgrave. Everyone else we could give two shits about. The show feels so agonizing slow at points that you're just begging for something to happen. The last ep we saw which was ep 4 had one of the dumbest story lines with that lady who hates supers/vigilantes just because someone precious to her died that wasn't even Jessica's fault but the lady decides to go after Jessica just because . It felt completely out of place and felt like setup for Civil War. I hate when shows/movies do stupid shit like this. It's why I could not stand Iron Man 2 because all it was was setup for the Avengers and didn't even feel like Iron Man's own movie. Also, the reveal at the end about who was following Jessica was so freaking predictable. I agree that so far Jessica just doesn't seem interesting. Also, I don't get everybody's fascination with Luke Cage. Sure having unbreakable skin is cool like when that guy tried to stab him with that broken beer bottle or he tries to cut himself in front of Jessica with the saw, but most of the time it's like "Hey, Jessica want to have sex "Sure" *cue sex scene* I swear they should have a counter for the amount of times Luke and Jessica have sex or Luke is having sex with someone else. Maybe he becomes interesting later on but I don't get why everyone likes him. Lastly there's Trish and Hogarth. Trish I could care less about and her calling out Kilgrave on the radio was probably the stupidest thing she could've done and she's lucky that she didn't get herself, Jessica , and that cop killed for her stupidity. Hogarth just seems like a real bitch and I really don't care for her lesbian relationship and would be happy if the show dropped it. Show less
+Shane Benjamson I didn't care about the action scenes, but you are probably right. This guy the drug addict was much more likeable as a drug addict, Simpson going nuts came out of nowhere and the siblings OH GOD WHO CARES.
that is an awesome thing for Chris to do. to not ask for shares or followers or anything... just be a subscriber. I appreciate that immensely. I guarantee any other RUclipsr would be like, “to be a contender, you need to like and favorite this video, follow me on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, snapchat, and leave a comment down below." This just shows how much chris really doesn't care about views or subscribers. he just likes reviewing movies and does it cause he loves it and not because of the money. I love that. Chris just got mad respect points from me.
just because you focus on drama doesnt mean you can be sloppy or lazy with the action. The action in Jessica Jones suck, anytime she was carrying someone or something heavy it was so poorly shot, and the fighting sucks, she´s not a martial artist, but an ex-superhero should know how to punch :P
+Noan Manji Yeah it actually made me glad that there weren't as many action scenes, Jessica just wasn't as much fun to watch in a fight as Daredevil. There was a couple of cool moments but it was mostly just throwing people.
i doesnt need to be big action scenes, you are right, but it is a show, the directors could be more creative, you can make a coreography that tells the audience that she is a brawler but still cool to see,
I'm surprised nobody mentions this. This show had some of the worst action scenes in superhero media. And the editing was amateurish at best. For ex: when Jessica gets hit with a bus and the screen cuts to black. The sound is heard but the screen goes black to avoid spending money on replicating an actual car accident.
Damn. Chris Stuckmann is about the most caring person I know of, and I've only seen him through various RUclips videos, but still I feel like I know him. I seriously wish more people could be as thoughtful and inspiring as him. Don't ever stop doing what you do man! You're actually my favorite subscribtion, and that is saying a lot. Trust me.
Chris is one of my favourite reviewers on youtube because he's so genuine. when I watch his videos I really get a sense that he really loves what he's doing and appreciates every subscriber he gets. plus his reviews are honest and informative and he says exactly what he's thinking.
+Sophia V Spoilers: - Shagging the husband of the person whose wife you've killed. - Multiple counts of breaking and entering - Mutilating dead bodies - Acting as the enforcer of a corrupt lawyer - Intimidation/coercion - Theft - Kidnapping and torture - Murder - Covering up murders - Pretty sure there was some littering involved How's she not an antihero again (especially based on that last damning charge)? :P
I loved Jessica Jones; the fact that they took the conflict seriously and made it about the character's struggle was what did it for me. The MCU movies are just about punchlines and / or one liners, and that makes them badly written, big budget comedies for me. But this show was great, and I think that's what Marvel should've done from the start; each character gets a short, 8 to 13-episode season, and finally you bring them together for a longer running season.
This is why Chris Stuckmann is my favourite youtuber. The guy is so humble and honest. He knows his entertainment well, and he aims to provide us a true and honest opinion ALL THE TIME. He cares about his subscribers in a way that I haven't seen topped by any other youtuber. This is how all cinephiles should be. "I hate lying about products for advertisement." Chris is a fuckin' class act. Sending love from Canada, Chris!!! :)
This is the only show I watched twice.....after watching luke cage...i went back to watching this and I tell you....its a much better watch and my favorite show out of all
Surprised by the "A" rating. Imo the season was good (maybe a B), but the pacing was all over the place. The action was terrible. The character themes were awesome, but I wished they explored them more. The side characters were not interesting as, for example, Karen, Foggy and Ben. Always when Jessica or Kilgrave were not on screen, I was bored tbw. They were easily the two best parts of the series. The last two episodes got really bad in some scenes, especially the last confrontation between Jessica and Kilgrave. So bad, and a waste of potencial for future seasons. Overall, the execution was not as good as the ideias and themes. Hopefully the next season will be better.
Also, there's no character development for Jessica. The season ends and she is exactly the same. Still have a drinking problem, still refuses to be a super hero, etc.
+Alex Porto That's her character, that's what so fake from others show, in a few days the person forgets everything, you think a girl can forget everything that happened to her in 13 episodes equivalents to 13 days? the show is Awesome, A
+Say What Again i Dare you i Double Dare you! I'm not saying that she needed to completely change, but evolve in some way. Look at Daredevil, he and Fisk had great developments.
Alex Porto How? Matt was the man without fear that wanted to kill Fisk the realise if he kill him was no better than him, Fisk is the same, but find the love of his live, those are their development, Jessica Jones was a broken women who didn't trust in Nobody, then in episode 12 she lets Luke Cage into his life and fell in love that's her development
+Say What Again i Dare you i Double Dare you! Well, there's Matt's inner conflict if he should really kill Fisk, culminading in him almost dying, as he saw that that was the wrong way to do justice. Throughout the season he always worked alone, and on episode 12 he broke down crying in front of Karen, finally admitting that he can't do this alone. Fisk, the romance aside, always wanted to make the city better, but in the end admits that the city deserves to burn, that the city deserves all bad people like his father in it. And yeah, I can agree that Jessica does have a little development with Luke, but in the end it felt like it didn't matter, it was one of the few things that left unresolved. (but I'm sure it will on Luke's series).
His complaint about the directing is kinda stupid knowing that the aim of tv diectors is to adapt to the previously established style of the show, they're not really supposed to change it
so happy to see that you liked this show. netflix/marvel is killin' it at the moment. my two favt superhero tv shows ever are now productions of netflix/marvel. LIKE OMFG i liked dd a tad bit better because of the action scenes, but still jj is fantastic! kilgrave was the highlight of this show.
I couldn't sleep one night and watched the the 5 episodes. I also agree that this along with daredevil is the best thing marvel has produced this year.
Totally agree with you on the greatness of this season, Chris. I find it interesting that you didn't like not being able to differentiate between the episodes because that's one my favourite parts about the season. To me it felt like one giant cohesive story where each episode stylistically blends into each other. These are the same reasons I hold the first season of True Detective in such high esteem.
As someone who has been watching tv for a while I can say for certain any kind plot can sound just as unoriginal and bland if you strip it down to its bare bones as you just did and passed it of as if it were the the whole show.

+james d He was talking about 2 main qualities of the main character which seem cookie cutter to me. I said nothing and can say nothing about the entire show because I haven't watched it yet.
+The Scarecrow As the show is called "jessica jones" any misgivings about the character is carried over to the show. But as someone who has watched the show I highly recommend it.
Just finished the show an boy it was good, wanted to hurry an watch it so i can watch your review of it. Totally agree, Kilgrave was something else in the show, sad to see him go but on to bigger an badder villains.
She never really put herself in a situation where she needed them. She kept her distance except when she got close to drug him or carry him, and then she had to be able to communicate, as JC said already.
+Brade What? She's freaking immune to him but she didn't realize that towards the end. Kilgrave however knew it and tried all his best to tricked her into thinking that he can still affect her.
This is the series that makes me think that Marvel has more staying power than most people give them credit for. I keep hearing people say the superhero movie trend will eventually get boring and we'll be sick of it, but Marvel is making more then just standard superhero movies. The winter soldier was just as much a spy film. Antman was a heist film and now we have Jessica Jones, a a crime drama with a supernatural edge, more than anything else. As long as Marvel keeps dipping its toes into other genres and keeps giving us new and different things, I think this is one studio that's going to be around for a long time to come.
I may not have seen Jessica Jones yet, but when you said the other superhero shows didn't stick with you, I thought, "Have you seen The Flash?!" That is one of the best shows I've ever seen! And yes, I love Daredevil as well, but I only wanna mention the Flash show! Chris, are you watching the Flash or no? 'Cause if you're not, you're missing out!
Comparing Flash to Jessica Jones isn't fair at all lol. Flash is fun as hell though. Embraces the cheesiness of the comics while also being heartfelt and action packed. I love the flash, each episode there's this one moment. "I can't believe they actually did that on tv."
***** I've seen everything. I'm up to date on it and I still think Jessica Jones was better. The Flash may have great points, but it's still predictable as hell. It also feels too campy for my taste. But again, that's my opinion.
+Heja wolf 0602 I really enjoy The Flash as well, however I think both of these Marvel Netflix shows are better. The Flash also might not be for everyone. It's cheesy, and probably in the same realm of the Christopher Reeve Superman movies or Sam Raimi's Spiderman... a tone that really doesn't exist in most of today's superhero movie efforts. I enjoy it a lot for what it is, but I would totally understand if it doesn't appeal to others. These Netflix shows fit the tone of a lot of the movies we're getting today. An argument can be made that they're even more serious. I thought Daredevil was extremely reminiscant to The Dark Knight trilogy. I guess what I'm saying is, Chris isn't missing out if he tried it, and stopped watching because he just didn't like the style and tone. Even for me, as a big fan of The Flash; I cannot stand Arrow. Just not my thing.
I think the show was a B for me. There is a lot to like, but I feel there's a lot of stuff that went wrong. For example, I think having captured and Kilgrave escaping THREE TIMES was repetitive. It started to make him seem incompetent for getting captured and everyone else for letting him escape. I think the subway scene is when I didn't feel like I was rooting for Jessica anymore and started to think she was shit. (You know the subway scene I'm talking about). I also thought the finale was REALLY weak. Like, that was a really lazy climax. But overall, there is some good. Episode 8 is fantastic, Mike Colter is fantastic, Taylor is great, there's a lot of good. Ritter kinda got weak when she was supposed to be upset though at times. She felt a tad monotone. Still, I think Daredevil is a stronger show for one big reason, the deaths matter in DD. Every character in DD who died had fallout and has effected other characters. But I feel like the deaths in JJ didn't affect much. There was a huge death in particular that seemed to be forgotten 5 minutes after it happens. It felt like they were killing a lot of people in JJ just for shock value for the audience and the characters in the show didn't care that people were dying. That really bugged me.
+cafeterialoca Also, they didn't explained how Jessica isn't affected by Kilgrave. I think it's a good show, but there are somethings that did make scratch my head. Trinity little arc and Nuke (Will Simpson) thing didn't need to be in the show.
Unrealized Thoughts I think there needed to be more subplots that flowed with the show and not focus 85% of the plot on finding Kilgrave. The Nuke story felt out of nowhere, and the Trinity Story was just boring and made her look like someone just as bad as Kilgrave in the end. It's an uneven show. You'd think they would explain more things after 13 HOURS!
***** I think the show runners didn't realize how much time 13 hours were and ended up just filling up the time instead of actually coming up with other plots. Again, they should have had more subplots to keep things engaged that weren't boring shit like Hogarth's stuff. Also, did the finale disappoint anyone else? It's like they ran out of funding and rushed the end. Like, the dock they fight on was unusually sterile, like it was a set inside a studio. Also, I thought the finale was gonna be Kilgrave controlling NYC through Trish's radio show, not...what happened.
+cafeterialoca Yeah, the end was anti climatic. Part of me was confused on what exactly happened in the sequence when Kilgrave was seemingly controlling Jessica. Maybe controlling New York would be too much.
Unrealized Thoughts Jessica was faking it. I didn't buy she was under control again for a second. It really came off that they didn't know how to end the series so they rushed the climax and it felt cheap.
Completely disagree with you Chris. Jessica - Unlikable anti-hero, bordering on anti-villain. Treated everyone like shit and was never really called out for her behavior. Alcoholism is never really dealt with and is just something she does. Makes stupid decisions such as disregarding the advice of a former spec-ops operative for no reason. Her powers were kind of inconsistent too (Leap small buildings in a single bound but get knocked down by some regular dudes?) Ritter tried way too hard to make the character "edgy" and I thought her delivery was sometimes stilted and forced. Luke Cage - Cool, but never really does anything except have sex with Jessica. Almost all his character development is undone after a reveal in the penultimate episode. Colter was an excellent choice for the character though. Kilgrave - Probably the best acted and written character on the show. Multi-layered. Scary. Despicable. Pathetic. Borderline sympathetic. Tennant played Kilgrave to perfection and displayed the many aspects of his character so well. A ton of fun to watch and the best MCU villain next to Kingpin. Trish - No complaints really. Rachael Taylor was great and the character was well-written. Simpson - Cool character and well-acted. Reminded me of Dan Stevens in The Guest. Side Characters - The divorce side-story and characters were redundant and only existed to set up a single event later in the series. Malcolm was okay. Ruben and Robyn were redundant for the same reason as the divorce plot. Robyn was annoying as hell and made me angry. The first half of the season was pretty boring and forgettable, started getting good at EP7 and peaked at EP9, and was decent for the rest of the season. Sex in the first 3 EPs was gratuitous and distracting. Tone was all over the place. Noir elements felt shoehorned in (I.E. randomly timed voice-over and sax). I give it 2.5/5 Underwhelming. Tennant saved the show for me. Why were all the white dudes creepy or unlikable or villainous?
I did the same as you -- went in completely blind, having only heard of the show in passing (loved Daredevil, never recognised the J.J. brand) and absolutely loved the experience. So liberating! I am trying to ignore any future promotional material for D.D. and J.J. season 2, because trailers, even when oblique, can forewarn a viewer. Skipping the trailers invests you in every frame (well, the material meets you halfway). Amazing stuff, and I am the sort who's grown lukewarm to the Marvel barrage. Netflix, unlike ABC or the box office, allow them opportunities to take risks; thank god for that.
I enjoyed Jessica Jones for what it was and loved how tone down it was and how it did not have to rely on The MCU for help and was it's own thing. i agree with Chris that everyone pulled off an amazing performance in this show except a couple of annoying characters. This show should'nt be compared to Daredevil, just because they are both in Hell's Kitchen does'nt mean they have to know each other. Jessica Jones is more of a psychological thriller that focus on characters. In my opinion i did not like the ending that much on how quick it seemed but still excited to see how they are going to do with Season 2.
+Tici Toty Tony It's pretty much a given that they're GOING to meet each other eventually, considering it looks like Marvel is gearing up to make The Defenders (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist).
The action in this show is filmed so awkwardly, like wtf, if the action in daredevil so great then why didn't they hire the same director? Also why doesn't Jessica own more than one pair of pants?
+leo50perez Why is the action filmed awkwardly? The Jessica vs Luke Cage fight is awesome from start to finish. The difference is that JJ isn't trained in martial arts like Daredevil she is just punshing faces. The pants thing is just nitpicking crap.
+leo50perez well the series is relying heavily on story, character, and cinematography.. they could care less for action sequences.. but I agree the show would be 100x better if they had good fight choreography like DD.
I enjoyed the show. But one of the biggest things that annoyed me was the story and writing. It didn't feel natural to me. I can almost imagine the writers wanting to go from beat to beat, and scene to scene. And so a lot of things felt forced, whether in characters action or in specific events.
BlackGirlFly I think they have some work to do, I feel it's about focus and screentime. For one, the movies focus more on defining the heroes and their adventures. And also, the villains usually don't get enough screentime to be interesting enough. Most of them are just 1 and done and serving the same role, they're used as mere challenges for the hero rather than CHARACTERS
+BlackGirlFly Well for one their are about 13 hours worth of tv show compared to two hours of movie time. A TV show has the lessor of taking its time and characterizing both villians and hero's over years something a movie can't do.
MoBeeLex Its not like its impossible to get a villain right on the big screen, but it looks like even the villain in Civil War will be another underdeveloped one...We have a "war", Bucky backstory, and at the end they'll likely join together to take down the bad guy. *sigh*
I found it a lackluster, dull, ugly(as in negative and dirty, not as in the attractiveness of the characters) show, with a few entertaining scenes and episodes. Kilgrave has powers that could rival any major villain, and he just wants to be wuvved, awwww....and Jones is a stereotypical tough chick wearing a leather jacket who drinks hard liquor and acts like a Hot Topic gawth rebel, ooooo......and Luke had the charisma of an ironing board. But hey, I still enjoyed wasting 13 hours over a couple of days with a slightly amusing 5/10 show. At least it's sort of a super hero show, and I like those....I guess....and no, I'm not a troll, I just have an opinion that is different than people who really enjoyed it. And I'm not a DC or Marvel fanboy, I just enjoy comic book related shows/movies as a whole. Daredevil was really good, if not a bit boring in places(8/10), The Flash is really fun cheesy-on-purpose entertainment(8/10), Arrow is solid entertainment that has lost it's way a bit in the past few seasons(7/10), Gotham is decent but I wouldn't be watching it if it didn't have a connection to Batman(5/10), Agents of Shield I couldn't get past the first season(but I hear it improved), haven't watched Agent Carter, and Supergirl is, well....not so super, but not bad so far(6/10). Opinions, right?
+Resale Living I sort of agree with you there. I gave it a shot but it didn't hook me. I felt really uninterested. Primarily because if I had some of those powers I wouldn't be living in the drudgery of normal, mundane humans. What a fucking waste of amazing powers. So fuckin' boring. They are SUPER POWERS. I don't want to watch lucky individuals squander such gifts because they have zero imagination and they want to be "normal". Ugh. That's what pissed me off about the show Heroes as well.
cosmic loner Just the way she trudged around the city for at least 50% of the show, with this deadpan look on her face and outlook on life, left me feeling like I needed a shower afterward. I know people say Marvel is too lighthearted, but this went WAYYYY too far in the opposite direction. Just my opinion.
The depiction of her superpowers was so amateurly done, it was never convincing, not even for a TV show! They didn't even figure out how powerful she actually was, her displays of strength were all over the place. One time she can lift the tail end of a moving car and look like she's standing in line at the supermarket and another time she can't even wrestle or knock out a normal man. All the cuts from the actress jumping out of frame to the special effect of her leaping into the air or landing on a fire escape were also terrible. Clearly the money did not go into the stunt and special/visual effects teams.
BeetleJuice! BeetleJuice! BeetleJuice! Sure, but then there was the scene of young Jessica lifting up the broken sink, which looked like someone was moving a paper cut out over top of the film, or any scene where Jessica did a super jump, etc. Also, the bar explosion wasn't CGI, it was done practically. I'm not talking about any of the practical effects.
IAmDaDumb1 The bar explosion was practical but they use CGi to make it more realistic like Luke Cage on fire is practical? That was CGi and really well done
BeetleJuice! BeetleJuice! BeetleJuice! Actually I'm pretty sure Luke on fire is practical too. You do know they can set people on fire with practical effects? I don't remember exactly how it works, but it involves some kind of special jelly and sometimes even a special fabric worn underneath their regular clothes. Pretty sure that's what they did for Luke.
Daredevil: Amazing Jessica Jones: Amazing (not as good) Agents of Shield season 1: half of it is shit the other half is great Agents of Shield season 2: surpasses the living hell out of season 1 Agent Carter: Haven't seen it but have heard great things
Jessica Jones was incredible! You hit the nail on the head with a lot of what you said. It really took a few surprising turns, and I found the character progression very organic. I'll be very sad if Krysten Ritter doesn't get some accolades in the future.
13 episodes could be easily cut to 10 or even 8. So much unnecessary and annoying characters. Like boring lawyer love triangle or idiotic neighbors. So little of Luke Cage. Did they make this series for chicks ?
So little of s character that is getting his own show and isn't suppose to be a main character ? Also the love triangle and twincest neighbors actually play into the plot and made sense and aren't terrible unlike literally every other romance in a comicbook show or movie which are shoe horned in for no reason( see oliverXfelicity, BarryXiris, daisyXlincoln, and every romance in the marvel movies with the exception of captainXcarter)
+Reality Forge Thank you so much for pointing this out. People tend to oversimplify things in a show when they don't care to understand them. Both of those subplots played into the themes of manipulation, dominance, and control, Hogarth's especially. And I totally agree about these awful pairings in superhero shows because they're rarely ever handled maturely.
+Paul G Agreed, I felt the series was so dragged out. I almost gave up watching when I realized there's was gonna be only one villain. Though I don't think it's a "series for chicks" just because it has many women characters, love triangles, etc. I wasn't expecting such a positive review from Stuckmann (thought he would address the fight scenes at least). Anyway, I know this isn't a popular point of view but I really didn't see all that, expected more from the series.
Damn Chris your reviews are fantastic, I have been watching you for about a year now. I stayed away from this review until I finally finished every episode. You nailed the nuance of the show, love it man, thanks
this show sucks. bad acting. bad writing. average production. basically the quality of supernatural. i know you are a marvel fan boy but cmon i expected an honest review.
+Tici Toty Tony Not trolling. If you look at this show objectively compared to a good show like True Detective season 1 (which chris gave an A+) its a C- show on every level.
Dixit Dominus oh please such a cop out answer. there could've been a million different ways she could've communicated. also, if we are being real she even didn't need to communicate. she could've knocked kilgrave out cold and then called back up.
Im thinking the scene with the van. He had people protecting him anyway, which would've attacked (and did) them, and also she didn't want to attract too much attention (which it was inevitable anyway). The only backup she had was trish and simpson and she still didn't realized that she blablabla kilgrave.
I'm saying, with a weakness as big as this they could have devised a better plan to get this guy. It wasn't even til the last episode that they even thought about headphone thing.
+chaosinorderrr or maybe you're just dumb enough not to notice that Jessica didn't realize that Kilgrave power had no effect on her until later on. He was clever enough to tricked her into thinking that he could still affect her. Also for the fact that it's a mind power, who the fuck in the right mind would've believe such a thing exist in real life unless if you're there to experience it? No one even believe Luke Cage has an unbreakable skin until they saw it. Wearing headphone alone didn't do shit, you need to have a distraction, a music so loud that you couldn't hear him. You expect they would've just wearing headphone all episodes with loud music so that they would've no interaction with each other?
Kristen Ritter was really nothing special in this show (very, very bad in some scenes) let's get that straight right now, the one and only stand out of this show was kilgrave that's it that's all, some of the worst writing for a show I've ever come across
+David Howse lol "some of the worst writing for a show I've ever come across" You've obviously never watched Gotham, Arrow Season 3 and Super girl come on now.
+Keemo Smith I've actually only seen arrow season 3 out of those and yes I will admit some of those episodes can make you cringe, but with Jessica jones the sub-plots were completely unnecessary (I'm talking literally useless for the story other then for those characters involved to help save the villain later) also the amount of times kilgrave escapee out of sheer luck or stupidity is ridiculous, 2 episodes in a row Jessica had him caught dead to rights and then straight up lost him. Which is fucking dumb lol
What I find really peculiar is how so many seem to really enjoy this show. Here's my unsolicited opinion(s): -The rape narrative overshadows everything in the show. -All the women are portrayed as powerful, yet still victims. Trish is a wealthy talk-show host - but a victim of her mother's manipulations (and Simpson's antics, more quasi-rape allegory), JJ has super-powers - yet is a victim of Kilgrave (and apparently, life in general), Hogarth is a victim of stupidly banging her secretary - and having to deal with the fallout. -Virtually all the men are portrayed as weird, creepy, sexist, and/or abusive. The implications that men are fundamentally "broken" somehow, is staggering. The only decent male character in the show was Detective Clemons. Cage really didn't serve any purpose - he was clearly shoehorned into the show to set up his own series and give JJ someone to bone. He's also "broken" from the loss of his wife. Simpson was a blatant jab at "toxic masculinity", with his whole sense of masculine self-worth predicated on causing problems only to swoop in to solve them - thus making him a hero. -The lead character is an alcoholic, treats people like shit, was a shit before her encounter with Kilgrave (look at the flashbacks), can't handle (or accept) responsibility for her actions, directly runs away from responsibility, is inept to the extreme, and can barely function. And that's *with* superpowers... Seriously...? I could go on, but those are my main observations. If this is the kind of show (and characterizations) people in this day and age want to celebrate, you can count me out.
+Asia Mayfield If anyone can tear down my observations, please feel free... And in defense of my statement about the men (or any statements, actually), the fact that you don't see it, or agree, doesn't make the observation intrinsically wrong. As for being sexist - how am I sexist? By arguing that the show portrays men in poor light, and actually portrays women in poor light too? You might want to look up the word "sexist" in the dictionary.
+Justice Hunter 1 - Necessary to the plot, because without them there's really no plot. The whole show is predicated on it. And is constantly bludgeoning the audience over the head with it. JJ catches Kilgrave...what? 3 times? And isn't capable of beating up, or escaping the thugs Kilgrave has around him. Nor is she capable enough to outsmart him by anticipating that a guy with mind control powers will find ways of using those powers creatively - at least not until the end. She spent most of the season running from making the (not so) tough decision of taking him out - which would've been for the greater good. She left a fuck-ton of dead and damaged people in a trail behind her, all because she couldn't act. Annnnd really didn't seem to dwell at all on it. I won't argue your point about how rape (or mental rape, or bunny rape, or whatever rape) is bad. I'll even applaud you for implying the potential power Kilgrave has. I agree. Such a power would be incredibly dangerous. Especially in the hands of someone with non-existent morals, and/or a keen mind. 2 - Biased galore. I have no issue with a show catering to a demographic, but Jessica Jones disparages both women *and* men by portraying almost everyone in a very poor light. I don't favor disparaging either group. But I like characters to grow. It's when they learn, and change, have trials and tribulations, suffer and overcome - that they become memorable...maybe even heroic. Characters in Jessica Jones were very 1-note. Many were completely predictable. 2.5 - You then must've totally missed how Hope Shlottman *was* the damsel in distress for most of the season, until she removed herself from that situation. She also turned into another trope the "woman in the refrigerator" - used purely to drive a hero's journey back to the villain. Also, you might want to look at your statistics - because you'll find that women are not the predominant victims of rape and abuse solely from men. Objective studies find that the domestic violence numbers between heterosexual couples are fairly close. And that doesn't take into account that abusive women often push the buttons of men because they know that men are conditioned by society to not hit women. Such women lean on men, until they snap - making it all too easy for a woman to then cry "abuse". Violent women also commonly utilize lethal weapons in domestic violence. Interestingly enough, woman-on-women violence looms over all forms of domestic violence. Also, the language concerning the sexual assault of men by women has been manipulated so, that according to the law now, women can't rape men. When they do, it's never called "rape", and they get greatly diminished sentences even when successfully charged for it. Maybe you'll think about it differently the next time you hear about a female teacher seducing an underage student, or a caregiver molesting the children she's charged to look after, or the college co-ed who has sex with a passed-out drunk male student - when you see such women get slaps on the wrist. 3 - Soooo...being a drunk, rude, uncaring, manipulative, irresponsible, unaccountable person is good? Jessica Jones (at least the TV version) is flat-out unheroic. Her "heroism" towards the end is unearned. Her character experiences little to no growth throughout the season. And we're supposed to buy it that after killing Kilgrave (and getting off on a technicality), people in the city will just go: "Hey! I just read in the paper about this Jessica Jones chick murderizing some dude who may, or may not have, had mind-control powers! I need some PI help, let's call her!!!" Yeah, no. \:i
+Asia Mayfield Watched it twice. Also took a lot of notes. Like I said. Taking Kilgrave out would've been a tough, but smart, decision. How many more people died and were injured because JJ refused to lock things down? Oh, and Hope died - instead of just doing some time. So good job JJ...you totes saved the day! \:p
+Not a Complete Idiot... - So, you watched it twice just to tear it down? Wow! I admire your dedication. If I hated something, I would never want to go through that torture twice. I know you're not a complete idiot; but, maybe just a little? Well, if that's what makes you happy...
I STRUGGLED to get through the first episode... The last 3 minutes were pretty cool but her character is WHOLLY unlikable to me. Like, we get it. You're unlikable alcoholic. Does it get better?
+Kate the bear Didn't Walter White start of as a boring nerdy needy professor and as episodes moved forward he quickly started changing dramatically in Breaking Bad? It's stupid to think you know everything about a character from simply one episode. It's called "character progression"
Kate the bear Not at all. Obviously those character traits from the beginning of the season stick around, some are kept on the dominant side, some others get watered down. Give it a try. If anything at least to get to the Purple Man. That guy is my (and a lot of other people as I see) favorite MCU villain. Yeah, he even tops Loki.
Nope. Garbage dialogue, corny acting, irrational and inconsistent characters, nonsensical plot points and a seemingly single-minded dedication to undermining itself at every turn. Her alcoholism was so over the top and unrealistic it was just comical every time she casually slammed a liter of whiskey, she was consistently witlessly rude and pointlessly bitchy to a fault, and all of her plans are so stupid it's like the writers were the ones actually drinking. DT as Kilgrave was the only bright spot in this show...otherwise I wholeheartedly disagree with everything in this review. I went into this same as you, no expectations whatsoever, and I came out baffled by the hype.
Am I seriously the ONLY one who disliked this show? The dialogue is almost always akward or forced with weird pauses. The editing of ANY action at all is horrible. Why? Because EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Jessica has to fight/lift ANYTHING they have to cut away. Because casting a tiny little almost sickly looking actress for a near-amazonian superhuman is just a very unbelievable. Hence the terrible action. Also. Luke Cage. What is he doing here? The show is called Jessica Jones, not JJ and friends. Luke will get his own show anyway. What are they going to do about his character development/indroduction when the most important/dramatic parts are already used up? All in all, it was a very bad decision. Honestly the only redeeming thing about Jessica Jones is its villain. Killgrave is disgusting on a spine chilling level. Why? Because he can control EVERBODY. Which, my friend, includes you. The sheer casual way in which he takes away another person's free will (arguably our most valued possession) invokes an almost primal fear in us. Very well done on Tennant's part. All in all, Jessica Jones has the right ideas for its tone, its villlain and the trials and drama surrounding its hero, but ultimately fails in its execution. Which is a shame, because the potential of this show is clearly visible and (dare is say it) capable of surpassing Daredevil. I personally wouldn't grade Jessica Jones higher than a C. Mostly due to an amazing preformance by Tennant and whoever plays Jessica when she isn't supposed to do ANYTHING physically demanding; as said previously, she simply does not have the right bodybuild to make it even remotely believable.
+Jaslath I know that. I am just saying that by introducing him in Jessica Jones they rob themselves of a lot of material to use for Luke's own show. Also, by your own reasoning, it could also be argued that they should have put Jessica in Luke's series. This would have been better in my opinion, because whenever we see her, it would be like "hey, I know her!", which allows for a character introduction which doesn't sacrifice a lot of backstory/character development material. Also, though I myself will admit this argument is pretty weak: Luke has 1) seneority over Jessica by several decades if we go by date first published in their own series. 2) Luke is more widely known than Jessica.
I think the reason they did it this way is because while you can't really have a Jessica Jones show without Luke Cage; you could have a Luke Cage show without her so any material you lose for him is really only a small loss since she's a smaller part of his story. Since Luke Cage is more widely known and has been around long it makes more sense to have him in her show since he can help prop her show up more. The same way a movie will have a group of unknown actors and one famous veteran actor to draw in fans who might otherwise skip out.
+Jaslath... Very well, I will concede to the fact that Luke Cage was needed character in JJ. Your arguments have convinced me. However, that still lives us with: akward action editing because of the actress not having a believable body for the required action: akward pauses in nearly every dialogue longer than 2 minutes. Also, though I failed to state this in my initial comment, a thing that bugs me about Jessica Jones is the large amount of screentime given to side characters (some times of questionable importance) which in many cases derails the otherwise rather good pacing of the episode. It's like riding in a comfortably moving train, only to have it stop at every single station along the way. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this :) As I rewatched a few episodes of JJ, I will say this: the setting is extremely well done, managing to properly capture New York in almost every shot. I would have liked to see some more lasting affects of the invasion in Avengers though.
Well lets see Stuckmann. I'm not gonna lie and say I've been here from the beginning because thats so far from the truth. I just want to say that you have helped me so much in my movie going experiences. I love hearing your reviews, wether I agree with them or not I can always enjoy your videos. I don't know to many people that enjoy movies in the same way I do. Its very rare for me to find someone that is even close to liking movies as much as I do. I sometimes watch your videos during lunchtime and if someone looks over they ask me who you are. I saw he reviews movies. They might laugh or say you're stupid but I really don't care. I enjoy your videos. I enjoy your content. I appreciate your honesty and I just overall think that you're a great guy. Now I'm not just writing this for the giveaway. Honestly I could care less if no one reads this. I don't care if no one likes it because I know that its here and that it can be seen by you if you ever give it the time. Well I'm out of things to say so I'm just gonna leave it off with keep doing what you're doing cause its making a lot of people happy.

the villain in this show (Kilgrave) is probably the most entertaining, and believable villains since the Joker in the Dark Knight.
When Episode 8 came along, I was BLOWN away by how awesome things became as the tables turned, and became a complete role reversal for the villain.
+Justice Hunter
Agreed. I hated his guts, but at the same time felt sorry for him. He really had no idea about right versus wrong, and how could he know?
He's awful, and the show is awful.
+furthestfromthesun. yeah because fuck opinions
+Justice Hunter "I once told a guy to go screw himself, can you imagine?"
Vena Retro still laugh at that joke
David Tennat never fails to impress from my personal favorite doctor to making a very amazing villian in m.c.a
***** matt Smith sucks
Matt smith 4 life
+Cc games Obviously, all of the following is my opinion and not a stated fact:
Matt Smith was actually *really* bland and a much worse doctor than both Tennant (my favorite) and Capaldi (who brings back a version of the Doctor that we hadn't seen since the reboot - an *actual* alien who sometimes struggles to fully connect with humanity).
Cyan andCyanide Tennant scared the shit out of me in the show
Marvel Cinematic Arniverse
Killgrave is definitely one of the best villains in MCU right now.
Agreed. Way better than the villain from Thor: The Dark World "Malekith"
+The King The scenes with Ritter, especially the first one when he says, "You'll love it." and she repeats it back mindlessly "I'll love it." is absolutely terrifying. They were both crazy awesome.
But Jessica Jones isn't part of the MCU
+Ana Gonçalves Pereira Yes, it is. All of the Marvel shows are.
*was
Daredevil and Jessica Jones also have Marvels best villains so far!
I think killgrave was the best MCU villain, but then they killed him. Now loki is the best, again, and kingpin is second.
+Nicholas Palmieri damn it I knew I shouldn't have read the comments
For me kilgrave isn't so great as a villain, I mean the acting is great but he wasn't so evil, Wilson Fisk is the real shit
I so appreciate the way you handle sponsorships, Chris!
Wowww I know you are now! I remember seeing this comment when this video came out😂😂😂
Can Kilgrave still mind control you even if you don't speak english?
+Ajay Kundlas that'd be weird though. What if he was "Know English." & some foreigner just up & knew English? Lol
+DickChappy You have to understand him I'm guessing in this iteration.
What if you have headphones on?
+YT Channel Proven in the show at one point. If you can't hear him, he can't control you.
+YT Channel Jessica's adoptive sister had headphones on in the very last episode of season one and he couldn't control her (she was listening to music) so no if you block sound to your ears he can't control you.
I really liked the show but I just hated Simpson and Robyn
Yeah Robyn especially was unnecessary for me, Simpson at least has connection to new villains
Sam Gardner Robyn they can easily write out, maybe simpson gets mentioned with the people he works for, and he's Nuke
+Liam Arnold Or everyone in that divorce paper side-story...
I hated Simpson until he became nuke aka the point where he became a Druggy super soldier who I recalled reading about In the past, and yeah I straight up just hate robyn too.
Simpson (Nuke) is one of the most annoying villains in comic book history,He's basically captain america on drugs
Top 5 Marvel villains so far:
1. Killgrave
2. Wilson Fisk
3. Loki
4. Ultron
5. ...Red Skull, i guess
The Winter Soldier is more of a wild card
+elneutro7 0. John Cena
+elneutro7 I liked Robert Redford's character in Winter Soldier. I thought he was a solid villain.
***** I thought he was terrible villain and I thought Mickey Rourke gave a terrible performance. One of several reasons why it's the worst movie that Marvel Studios has done. An incredibly mediocre movie.
Since everything is in the same universe you would think that SHIELD would know about Kilgrave and have him locked up or something.
He leaves no fingerprints
found it so creepy how kilgrave sounded when he said Jessica, like none of the other characters sounded creepy, but he did. Damn david tennant!
LOL you're saying Jessica Jones is the equivalent to the level of TDK trilogy? Please let me have some of what you're smoking.
+Batman
"Jessica Jones" is not a super hero show though.
1 out of 474472 chance to get an Nvidia Shield, fingers crossed! ^^

luke cage is spartan locke from halo 5 right?
Correct
+jojoczero Well, the appearance, yes, but not the voice. That was Ike Amadi
That's what I've been trying to figure out! It is him right??
+Callum Brown Yes, the actor's name is Mike Coulter.
+Callum Brown They based Locke's physicality off of the Luke Cage actor but Locke's voice is another actor

I loved the show even if I thought Daredevil was better.
same.
+Chrisflistal Two excellent shows but Daredevil was better, yes.
+seanwalsh72 can't really compare
Got to disagree. As much as I loved Daredevil, I think Jessica Jones is the best superhero show ever.
gotta disagree i enjoyed jessica jones way more
I loved both Daredevil and Jessica Jones.
Alexandre Parent u r pathetic
I totally agree with everything you said. Tennant as Kilgrave is the best villain TV has ever seen. Not that Fisk was a bad villain, he was fucking awesome, but Kilgrave was amazing.
@@nirupam89 fuck off

Jessica Jones >> Supergirl
Seriously DC, Supergirl is cheesiest show I've ever seen
+bunnyfreakz i can be the biggest DC fanboy but will never watch that show....
+bunnyfreakz That show feels about 10 or 15 years behind its time. At least.
+bunnyfreakz Supergirl is like Wonder Woman from the 70s meets the modern-girl Barbie with just a pinch of Felicity from the Flash.
+bunnyfreakz Supergirl's the one I would show to my young daughter. Jessica Jones is the one I'd wait for until she was mentally matured/prepared for watching so I wouldn't have to get her childhood counseling.
Team jacob
er mer gerd no team edward like totally #trending
No.
There is nothing bad in relying on action. I actually think Daredevil is still a better show overall. I like Jessica Jones too though.
+Antonio Díaz meh Daredevil was cool i guess

COME BACK HERE... JESSSSSICAAAAA
Kilgrave > Kingpin in my opinion. Hopefully they bring him back like PTSD occasionally in season 2
he has a healing factor in the comics so he could still be alive
+Boba Fett never thought i'd say this, but I hope they bring him back
I bet he'll show up as a mental illusion, kind of like Joker in AK.
+Boba Fett it would be cool to see him paralyzed from the neck down forcing scientist to fix him i thought it was a bad decision killing him off i wouldve liked him just narrowly escaping to go off to pester daredevil like in the comics
hopefully he will actually have purple skin like in the comics

Toast Man I'm not going to try to argue about it cause they're great shows anyway and it is a close one.
***** NARCOS
lol no
The puke she choked on gave her powers.
Review Hannibal the TV series, dammit!
+Hank Pym Yes, please!
I agree. It's pretty much an art house film every episode with some of the best cinematography I've ever seen in both tv and movies.
+MoBeeLex yes, too bad it was on the notorious awesome TV show killer, NBC
+Croz Raven Thats the thing; if it was on AMC, HBO, or Netflix it would have a much bigger following. Plus NBC didn't really do much to advertise it. Still in suprised with what they got away with on broadcast tv.
Thank you. That show is amazing! Its quality matches almost anything on film.
Chris, I think you're awesome, nobody reviews things in the precise way you do and are funny at the same time. I might give this a watch now.
I love Marvel and Netflix...

And a big bag o weed
Chris really is one of very few in youtube that you want them to succeed. You don't feel jealous about it, because you feel if anyone deserves this, he is one of them. Cheers to his channel and I hope to watch his reviews for years to come.
My favorite line of the show is "You're not 10 anymore." Such a subtle and good reference!!
Can you explain?
What's in the box?
WHAT'S IN THE BOOOOOOOOOX!
great review and I enjoyed watching you and Alicia Malone review your first and worst Tarantino movies.
Open the box.
It's My Dick in a Box.
+You know my name. LMAO! 😂
Interesting . Agents of shield scared me off from Marvel TV shows but I now I wanna get back.
+Sreehari Namikaze why? agent of shield season 1 is ok ish, season 2 is great, season 3 is on point right now
Gerry Lauw I've been hearing good things about season 2. Guess I'll give it another try.
+Gerry Lauw I couldn't even finish season 1.
+Orion Maximus yeah season one is ok ish but some of the episode are boring and skippable, but it introduces the character. Season 2 introduce the inhuman storyline, Season 3 Hydra is back (many heads, but one tale)
+Gerry Lauw indeed, season 3 is awesome though
Fucking love that shirt. Cowboy Bebop is fucking perfect
Ryan Williams yeah
Can't wait to watch Jessica Jones I like the fact that females characters are finally getting there own shoes and movies
+BoomNuggettime I know but now it's more of a thing years ago it would have been more difficult to see a supergirl tv show or the upcoming captain Marvel
+BoomNuggettime Actually they've been getting leading roles since the 30s. But feminists have to have something fake to complain about.
+Melissa Perez
Difficult? You sure?
Wonder Woman (1975)
Wonder Woman (2011) (TV movie)
She-ra (1985)
Isis (1975)
Bionic Woman (1976)
Bionic Woman (2007)
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008)
These are the ones I thought up just off the top of my head. Pretty sure I could find more if I actually looked.
+Melissa Perez Shut up females have been getting many lead roles for years now. Jennifer Lawrence and Emily Blunt are killing it.
+Jaslath Buffy the Vampire Slayer, one of the greatest TV shows of all time?
+Shane Benjamson You and me both. I was expecting too something about the action scenes.
+Shane Benjamson I didn't care about the action scenes, but you are probably right.
This guy the drug addict was much more likeable as a drug addict, Simpson going nuts came out of nowhere and the siblings OH GOD WHO CARES.
Not the only one man, by the 10th episode it was really hard to keep watching, I'm hoping the 2nd season is better
that is an awesome thing for Chris to do. to not ask for shares or followers or anything... just be a subscriber.
I agree completely. All she did was throw people around and that was it.
+Bradley Smith It's pretty cliche and lazy. It's common because it's easy for any director to pull off.
Loved your review of JJ, couldn't agree more. Tennant was terrifyingly effective
Trust me.
It's a shame the fight scenes (excluding the jones vs cage fight) are so badly done.
Indeed , daredevil has excellence fight scenes too
That's the big difference between the two characters. Daredevil is a martial arts fighter while Jessica is more clumsy because she is not trained.
I loved the shit Jassica Jones, but it just did not hit it out of the park like Daredevil did.
Chris is one of my favourite reviewers on youtube because he's so genuine. when I watch his videos I really get a sense that he really loves what he's doing and appreciates every subscriber he gets. plus his reviews are honest and informative and he says exactly what he's thinking.
I don't think that being rude makes her an antihero.
+Sophia V Spoilers:
- Shagging the husband of the person whose wife you've killed.
- Multiple counts of breaking and entering
- Mutilating dead bodies
- Acting as the enforcer of a corrupt lawyer
- Intimidation/coercion
- Theft
- Kidnapping and torture
- Murder
- Covering up murders
- Pretty sure there was some littering involved
How's she not an antihero again (especially based on that last damning charge)?
finished it .. masterpiece 10/10 i could feel the depression that goes through there and luke and jessica's chemistry was so sweet!
This is the only show I watched twice.....after watching luke cage...i went back to watching this and I tell you....its a much better watch and my favorite show out of all
You're the man Chris, I am always watching videos advertising products and that was a really honest and humble way to do the giveaway.
His complaint about the directing is kinda stupid knowing that the aim of tv diectors is to adapt to the previously established style of the show, they're not really supposed to change it
Good point, cinema photographers as well, it all has to look the same
Okay, I was on board for Jessica Jones because she was my favorite comic book detective, but when David Tennant came on screen as Kilgrave, SOLD!!
so happy to see that you liked this show.
netflix/marvel is killin' it at the moment. my two favt superhero tv shows ever are now productions of netflix/marvel.
LIKE OMFG
i liked dd a tad bit better because of the action scenes, but still jj is fantastic!
kilgrave was the highlight of this show.
I couldn't sleep one night and watched the the 5 episodes. I also agree that this along with daredevil is the best thing marvel has produced this year.
last 5 I meant lol
+James Houston you watched the last half of the show first!?
No you idiot I watched the last 5 in a row
+James Houston Why do you stutter on youtube comments?
Why do u write such moronic comments?
Totally agree with you on the greatness of this season, Chris. I find it interesting that you didn't like not being able to differentiate between the episodes because that's one my favourite parts about the season. To me it felt like one giant cohesive story where each episode stylistically blends into each other. These are the same reasons I hold the first season of True Detective in such high esteem.
A character that is rude to other people and drinks alot? That's original.

Keep up the good work! Always enjoy your reviews!!
Kilgrave is my fav villain now
My only issue with the show is the giant plot hole, which is why Jessica didn't have ear plugs ready at all times to counter Kilgrave.
+Brade I don't think that's a plot hole. She has to be aware of her surroundings and communicate with her allies.
She was immune to his virus.
True, she didnt know that hearing him was important. And after that she was immune.
Isn't that girl Jane from Breaking Bad?
yeah Jesses dead girlfriend
+John Paul Jr. Keelan Yeah, Jesse-CA Pinkman/Jones
+Heja wolf 0602 I'm watching Flash and ... sorry, JJ really is better.
***** That I absolutely agree with. How much more fun would that have been?
Just not my thing.
chris, you're awesome. you get a timely review out for Jessica Jones, and hold a giveaway that only asks us to be a subscriber. pretty awesome.
I give it 2.5/5
Underwhelming. Tennant saved the show for me.
Why were all the white dudes creepy or unlikable or villainous?
illegalswede
Why were all the white dudes creepy or unlikable or villainous?
Because you're paranoid.
+IAmDaDumb1 I know that but what i'm as Jessica Jone as a seperate show does mot have to latch onto Daredevil to be its own great IP.
+Zein Alfurati 9/10 ^_^
+Zein Alfurati lol Omg Zein haha
The action in this show is filmed so awkwardly, like wtf, if the action in daredevil so great then why didn't they hire the same director? Also why doesn't Jessica own more than one pair of pants?
+leo50perez Why is the action filmed awkwardly? The Jessica vs Luke Cage fight is awesome from start to finish. The difference is that JJ isn't trained in martial arts like Daredevil she is just punshing faces.
The pants thing is just nitpicking crap.
+leo50perez Hey, maybe she's got a lot of the same design of those pants. Like, 100s of them maybe? Who knows.
+leo50perez
well the series is relying heavily on story, character, and cinematography.. they could care less for action sequences.. but I agree the show would be 100x better if they had good fight choreography like DD.
Chamomile Sippin' Or maybe she just doesn't give a shit about her fucking pants!
+leo50perez thats just her style and also her rough life causes her to not gain much salary .
Your reviews are always so well studied.. you look at so many things. your truly are a fan of story telling..
I enjoyed the show. But one of the biggest things that annoyed me was the story and writing. It didn't feel natural to me. I can almost imagine the writers wanting to go from beat to beat, and scene to scene. And so a lot of things felt forced, whether in characters action or in specific events.
This show had loads of compelling commentary and subtext that fanboys won't/can't grasp...and that's fine, I guess
Why can't the villains in the movie be this good lol. Is Marvel not seeing the positive reception and taking notes...
Creative Mere obstacles more like it.
*sigh*
"The Doctor Who" it's just the Doctor, Chris. Just the Doctor.
Sorry, Chris. I just watched and it was so boring. It would be perfect if were only 4 or 6 episodes, but 13... Kinda painfull to watch.
+Resale Living
Are you really that desperate for attention that you need people to "attack" you? Grow up, please.
You again? damn I see you on every Jessica Jones review Hating on it, get a LIFE
+Resale Living What show did you watch? D:
cosmic loner
Just the way she trudged around the city for at least 50% of the show, with this deadpan look on her face and outlook on life, left me feeling like I needed a shower afterward. I know people say Marvel is too lighthearted, but this went WAYYYY too far in the opposite direction. Just my opinion.
My wife and I just watched episode one and we aren't going to binge it. We want to stretch it out and savor it.
Thanks for the great review!
+2nd3rd1st Yeah there were a couple of really questionable CGI moments that really irked me
Are you kidding me? the bar explosion? when Jessica Jones drop from the building with the yellow dress? those where perfect visual effects
Daredevil: Amazing
Jessica Jones: Amazing (not as good)
Agents of Shield season 1: half of it is shit the other half is great
Agents of Shield season 2: surpasses the living hell out of season 1
Agent Carter: Haven't seen it but have heard great things
Good summary, Agent carter is very good if you're interested ;)
I was talking your comment in consideration until you said, Did they make this for Chicks? lol I Loved the Show
Not to mention the fact that some of these characters will return as fully developed characters already who can hit the ground running...
I love this show
Damn Chris your reviews are fantastic, I have been watching you for about a year now. I stayed away from this review until I finally finished every episode. You nailed the nuance of the show, love it man, thanks
Chris, don't watch new Batman v Supeman trailer, it spoiled the whole movie!
this show sucks. bad acting. bad writing. average production. basically the quality of supernatural. i know you are a marvel fan boy but cmon i expected an honest review.
HAHAHAHAHA no
Nope
Obvious troll is Obvious
+Love Warrior Gr8 b8 m8, I r8 8/8
+Tici Toty Tony Not trolling. If you look at this show objectively compared to a good show like True Detective season 1 (which chris gave an A+) its a C- show on every level.
just discovered this channel with The Revenant review - I really like Chris' style, keep it up!
The show is filled with plotholes. Like why didn't they think of the headphone trick earlier in the season? And thats just the tip of the iceberg.
+chaosinorderrr because when Jessica needed people, she and them needed to be able to communicate with each other.
1.Flash
2.Daredevil/Arrow

2. Daredevil
3. The Flash/Agents of Shield.
I'm willing to bet 1000000$ you don't even watch AOS
Thanks for giving back, Chris!
Kristen Ritter was really nothing special in this show (very, very bad in some scenes) let's get that straight right now, the one and only stand out of this show was kilgrave that's it that's all, some of the worst writing for a show I've ever come across
Nice fake account
+BeetleJuice! BeetleJuice! BeetleJuice! I don't know what that means lol David Howse is literally just my first and last name Mr. Beetlejuice
David Howse FAKE.... reported
I though daredevil was better be like a lot
So excited to start watching this show! Glad you are so professional when you explain it without including spoilers!
What I find really peculiar is how so many seem to really enjoy this show. Here's my unsolicited opinion(s):
-The rape narrative overshadows everything in the show.
+Asia Mayfield
Feel free to explain why, rather than just making a statement and expecting it to be taken as fact.
+Asia Mayfield
If anyone can tear down my observations, please feel free...
+Justice Hunter
1 - Necessary to the plot, because without them there's really no plot.
And we're supposed to buy it that after killing Kilgrave (and getting off on a technicality), people in the city will just go:
"Hey! I just read in the paper about this Jessica Jones chick murderizing some dude who may, or may not have, had mind-control powers! I need some PI help, let's call her!!!"
Yeah, no.
\:i
+Asia Mayfield
Watched it twice.
It gets better. She has that attitude and drinking problem for a reason, and you'll understand once you get into her past in later episodes.
+Kate the bear Didn't Walter White start of as a boring nerdy needy professor and as episodes moved forward he quickly started changing dramatically in Breaking Bad? It's stupid to think you know everything about a character from simply one episode. It's called "character progression"
***** YEAH THATS HOW UNLIKABLE SHE IS LOL FUCK
Alexander Angelus Cool thanks. I just wanted to make sure she wasnt going to be this one dimensional the whole time. Really couldnt stand her.
You're such an awesome person Chris !
Thank you for putting content every week, you're the best !
Jessica Jones is soo boring... -_-
Another bandwagon Hating without watching it lol
It felt like six episodes stretched into thirteen lol I watched it! Just found it incredibly forgettable
Aaron Martinez Great Story
It was paradoxically repetitive and wildly inconsistent all at the same time lol but it's cool that soo many people liked it. They're just wrong xD
What can I say? My opinion is superior ;D
I went into this same as you, no expectations whatsoever, and I came out baffled by the hype.
wehrlerichard
It's a great show, it's just not for you.
Awesome show man. Thanks for the giveaways that is awesome!
+3vrLol Yes, i think you are
+3vrLol Luke Cage is here because he's an important part of Jessica Jones life. In the comics they have a child together, after all.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this :)
As I rewatched a few episodes of JJ, I will say this: the setting is extremely well done, managing to properly capture New York in almost every shot. I would have liked to see some more lasting affects of the invasion in Avengers though.
Stuckmann, You're the best! Love how honest and humble you are towards your subscribers.
The world needs more Chris Stuckmanns
