"What a world for the lonely kind" (1:09) 💔 - as Luther said in interview, he wrote this about his own struggle with depression - and my goodness, you can hear it in every single word, if you listen beyond the vocal ... Gone way too soon and terribly missed, but hope you've found peace in a much better place than here - RIP sir 🦋
When I first heard this, I just related it to his life of finding that special person, then found out the real story behind the song, 😢 you can so hear the pain and sadness in his voice, miss this man so much
@@vandrossfan5822 i didn't get anything about depression from this---well now certainly i see it as a subtheme but the main thing for me was he was singing about any love--doesn't matter if its a man--i think it was a cryptic message about his homosexuality and longing for finding the right man...you follow?
@@Dallas3212 When I first heard the song, like many people, you just assume it's about his longing for that one person, many people still wonder about his sexuality, for me it was his voice, music and talent, I will always talk about.
There's a couple of artists who's lives were too short to create enough music. Luther is one of them. Lucklily the music he did create was so timeless that I actually forgot it has already been 15 years.
I WILL NEVER ACCEPT NOR BELIEVE THE STORY ABOUT SAM COOKE'S DEMISE !!! HE WAS MURDERED, PLAIN AND SIMPLE !!! CAN ANYONE EVER FARTHOM LUTHER'S SADNESS AT NOT BEING ABLE TO SING ??? NO ONE CAN....BERRY !!! WE ALL MUST DIE. AND AS IT IS APPOINTED UNTO MEN ONCE TO DIE AND AFTER DEATH THE JUDGEMENT !!! HEBREWS 9:27. WHERE WILL YOYOU SPEND ETERNITY ??? :MATHEW 16:13-19. LUKE 16:19-31. JOHN 5:24-29.
i remember crying watching this live...or when broardcast on BBC....its still so emotional how nobody but Luther can sing. God bless Luther and thank you RIP
One of the premier singers of our time, one who had to sacrifice so much to give us the music he knew we’d love... ladies & gentlemen, Mr. Luther Vandross! 🙌🏾💯
Thank you Luther Vandross for this very beautiful Ballard. The words help me every day. Your being is no longer here but your words and amazing voice is your legacy. I am truly thankful.
I'm currently sat next to my dad who's on his death bed. Not long now until he passes they told me. He's only 59 and I 23, but we're both father and son as well as best friends which makes this even harder. He can't talk, but he can hear. I've played this song to him at night before I go to sleep next to him and I can tell he loves it by how relaxed he gets. Sing it live for him when he gets to you Luther! ❤ One day I'll be there to listen again with him.
How wonderful. When my mother was in the ICU at the hospital, I brought a CD player and played the power of love album continuously on a loop for her..
I love this song. I made a cover for #Charlieputh because he said in an interview that this song means very much to him ❤. Amo esta canción. Hice un cover de esta canción que significa mucho para Charlie Puth... Lo dijo en una de sus entrevistas!
To all future singers, watch & learn, a masterclass!!..why this hasn't got 22 million views instesd of 22 thousand is beyond me....wonderful! rip legend. X
Proves how great a singer Luther was. His background singers were awesome and Marcus Miller not only co wrote many of Luther's songs but his bass was part of Luther's signature sound. This is a beautiful but different performance like every other from Luther. He was the consummate professional. Not a bad job by Jools who doesn't really have the feel for this type of music. Just imagine how great this would have been with Nat Adderley Jr or Bob James, Joe Sample or any of the other pianists who really feel this type of music.
I agree with all you say... apart from Jools not 'feeling' this type of music - this 'type' of music is soul music with a hint of blues-jazz, which I'd say he feels pretty well - just look at any of his live performances. Jools is an 'all-rounder', I'm guessing he has a feel for all types of music, and, as they say, if you learnt to play jazz, you can play anything.
@@JohnPenfold1 a stellar performance on piano by Jools Holland. However, if you get the chance to see videos of Nat Adderley jnr accompanying Luther, you will understand the difference he makes to Luther's performances - he was Lutger's musical director and co-wrote many of his songs.
Effortless singing from Luther. Sweet vocals. Wonderful stripped down version, when a voice is as pure as his, simple percussion just enhances the vocals....
All in favor for him to be Inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, say aye.

He's not wearing an ear piece and stiII has perfect pitch. He is the G0AT!
That would've been a treat to have an "Unplugged" album by the great Luther Vandross 🎙
RIP to one of the greatest voices ever in music. Can't believe it'll be 15 years since he passed. ⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘
I'd say the greatest voice, his interpretation of telling a story through song, is truly amazing.

17 years now, but never ever forgotten!!!
The master of vocals... The way he harmonised with Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Cheryl Lynn, etc... He led them!!!!

Wow. Happy heavenly birthday (20 April 1951) to a guy who had one of the sweetest soul voices ever - Luther Vandross 🧡
Watched about 50 times still does it every time. I think the vocal is better on this than the album version. He smashes it.
Nothing better than Luther
Still in my opinion the best vocalist ever miss you so much R.I.P see you on the other side 🙏🙏🙏
You'll always be my number 1....grew up with you, sad I couldn't grow old with you

The world got robbed when this fine gentleman was taken from us.
When I was seventeen years old, I put your songs and people looked at me like if I was ET. Thankfully I Keep enjoying listening your music.

Oh, Jools, try underplaying for a change, FFS. Talk about slapping those keys - so wrong.
Jools needs to back off with the comping he’s not the lead
