  • Our last day was both sad and exciting. We were sad to leave the ride, but excited to make it back home to our family. Shortly after Harris Beach the road strayed away from the beach and because of the fog we decided to get off the 101 and take the backroads. The fog set in shortly after crossing the boarder and we had a damp, chilly ride to Crescent City.

Fantastic series of videos. Best report I’ve seen on touring the Oregon coast. Like your red safety triangles you wear.

Thanks David. It's been a couple of years since doing it so we need to plan another adventure.

The music is quite loud and distracting/repetitive in all your videos.
No music or at least quiet subtle music would have been much better.
This video series is the best in displaying the OCBR.
I'm giving this some thought about riding my recumbent trike down this route next summer.
The Coos Bay Bridge, you could have walked across on the sidewalk.
Also the 7 Devils route is worth doing for saying that you Did It.
I have a friend that lives in Florence, and he has ridden the OCBR twice.
He wrote a book about it.
"The Oregon Coast Bike Route. Riding The Legend."
    By Steve Greene.
    Check it out.

Hey guys, just binge-watched your Oregon coast tour and loved it. I've roadtripped the 101 myself (by car) in september 2017, only just a couple of days behind you. The smoke had lifted by that time. The Oregon coast is truly spectacular and your videos bring back great memories. Also I did see a lot of cyclists en route. Who knows I'll be back some day, on 2 wheels instead of 4!

Yeah Alex, the smoke was something else and was a big concern for us because of a lung issue I have, but it ended up being great. If you have the chance to do it on 2 wheels, TAKE IT! :)

loved the series of your Oregon trip...question...you started off by saying you were riding back to your car..How did you get to your starting area?...train?...friends car?...

`Randy Cuffaro we drove our car to Crescent City CA and left it at a Uhaul company locked behind their gates and did a one way rental on one of their trucks (we had a van reserved but they were all out) and drove that to Astoria. Once there we dropped the truck at another uhaul location and rode our bikes down the road to the Atomic Motel. We stayed there one night and left on our adventure the next morning. There are cheaper ways to do it (buses) but they take a lot longer and we were pressed on time. The uhaul rental was about $350 for a one way rental.

Thanks Julie...I was curious. My Parents live in Florence and Im in the San francisco Bay Area and was thinking of possibly riding home from there place in Florence. Those coastal roads are kind of scary with traffic....and very hilly. Florence is a great little town...Seal caves, light house and an area called Old Town...not sure if you checked those out at all. Thanks again for the info....take care.

Would love to see a follow up video about some of the other aspects of the trip such as what all you packed (food, gear (dishes, cameras, extra clothes, etc) bike locks, etc. Thinking of doing this trip next summer and would love to see and hear advice on what to pack, where to stop, what to see, etc.

Thanks for the feedback Brian, we'll have to see about putting something like that together for you. We planned our nightly stops specifically for the amount of distance between them and to ensure we had a camp each night that had a shower. You can take our start & stop points as a base itinerary.

Adventure by Cycle also how you kept your phones charged! Lived a few years in Utah for school. Awesome to see some of your families pics from the mountain ranges. We are back in the Bay Area now and miss seeing those everyday.

Awesome video series. Nice mix of your thoughts and reactions, camping and beautiful views. Could you post what you used for video. I think I saw a GoPro chest mount, and I suppose your iPhone? Did you do any editing on the trip, or wait till you were back home? How many SD cards did you use. I'm planning a trip from Vancouver to Mexico in 2 years after my son graduates from HS. Plus I'm getting my knee replaced this March 20th. Again, you video editing is very good. I'm very new to this and need to learn as I want to vlog my trip.

Thanks Mark. The videos were all shot on a Canon G7X, with the exception of the shots from the chest-mounted GoPro, which was a 4 black. We didn't do any editing while on the ride because I wasn't too worried about the immediacy of getting them online. Not editing en route allowed us to enjoy the time in camp at night with all the cool people we met, and freed us from carrying a computer. (Although, I suppose you could do it on your phone.) We used a lot less memory than I anticipated. I think I had 3 cards (64GB) and I didn't even get close to filling one. Good luck on your trip, I wish we would have more time to get farther down the coast.

Also, if you're looking to vlog you may consider watching this video from a guy I watched thru hike the PCT last year. He did daily vlogs and he discusses how he did that while on the trail. ruclips.net/video/h05ODuzGK5A/видео.html

Adventure by Cycle your GX7 has good sound quality when you were riding and talking. Was that just with the internal mic?

    • @adventurebycycle7937
      @adventurebycycle7937  6 лет назад +1

It was just the internal mic; however, I made a dead cat using some faux fur and double sided tape, kind of like this one. ruclips.net/video/nEqWWrMGTY8/видео.html
