    20 years shackled together and still smiling? That's a much greater accomplishment than any bike ride!

    Awesome! Good on ya... 20yrs. Hats off to you two. I’m hoping to do that trip next Summer sometime. My GF & I drove (from Calgary - Bend - Crescent City) up the 101. Looks like the way to do it, cycle from North to South.

      Thanks Gary, I hope you're able to make it happen, the trip for us was unforgettable. Although I only remember the wind really being at our backs once or twice, I hear going North to South is the way to do it because of the winds.

    • @adventurebycycle7937
      @adventurebycycle7937  3 года назад +1

      We rented a one-way uhaul van/truck, put our bikes in the back, left our car in the uhaul parking lot (they let us park behind the gates so it was secure for the week), and drove the uhaul with our bikes up to astoria. Some people fly into portland with their bikes, assemble the bikes, ride to astoria and down the coast, and then rent a uhaul to get back to the airport.

First trip was rout 66. And Ventura to northeastern Minnesota twice!! The coast is by far the best!!! That's why I'm doing it again!! Wouldn't doubt it if I do it 5 more times!!! Keep the rubber on the road!!!🚴‍♂️

    Julie,
    I went into Saturday Cycle and was talking to Mark. I told him that he sold you a Salsa touring bike a few years ago. I had him pull up your you tube videos on the Oregon coast. As soon as he saw you he said he remembered you well. Even told me about the picture of the Salsa you use on you You Tube page. Thanks for telling me about them. He was very helpful today.
    Cheers ,P

    Great idea using the U-Haul for a shuttle vehicle. Did you have any trouble finding a place to leave your car in Crescent City? Enjoyed this first vid, and will watch the rest, too.! Planning on this trip in Sept 2020 if possible.

      Glad you enjoyed the video Elizabeth. We arranged with the Uhaul rental place to leave our vehicle parked at their place. They were really cool about it and let us park back in their locked fence area, which helped us feel better about leaving our car there.

    I’m hoping to go from Astoria to gold beach or so Next month (June)

    Ive got about4 or five nights to divide it into...
    Any input greatly appreciated?!

      Nights with associated daily milage in () 1.Nehalem (41.5) 2.Cape Lookout (40) 3.Beverly Beach (64.8) 4.Carl Washburn (46.6) 5.Umpqua (44) 6.Bullards Beach (52.6) 7.Humbug Mt. (49.1) 8. Harris Beach (52.1). There were spots between those locations but we chose these because we knew they had showers at the camp grounds. 4-5 nights to Gold Beach would make for some long days but would be doable, but that took us 7 days.

    Found your videos. Nice trip. I'm planning to do this in a couple years from Vancouver to Mexico. Question: You felt comfortable leaving your equipment (electronics etc.) at your campsite when you went for a walk on the beach?

    • @olsonmovies
      @olsonmovies 6 лет назад +2

      We kept all real valuables like money and electronics in our handlebar bag which we took with us everywhere....to the beach, to the showers, to the bathroom. But we left everything else in our Bike bags or tent. We locked our bikes with Bike locks. Nothing was ever stolen from us that we left at camp but better to take phones and money with you wherever you go just in case.

    • @adventurebycycle7937
      @adventurebycycle7937  6 лет назад

      We accessed the beach from Ecola Ct road. As that road meets the sand there is a wall beneath the Ecolainn where we leaned our bikes. We used a U-lock and cable to lock them together and then took our handlebar bags that had all our valuables. To be honest, the bikes were never out of site, but if someone who knew how to take the panniers off wanted to, the could have and run off before we were able to get them.

    • @MeOMyKids
      @MeOMyKids 6 лет назад +1

      Vesta McGee it took 4.7 hours of actual cycling time but we stopped a lot of places along the way. We left at about 8:45 in the morning. I’ll have to look at the raw video footage to check the time stamp for when we arrived in camp but it was still light and we were the second people there. Several came in after us. It was probably about 5pm when we arrived so I would say 8 hours with all our stops. I’ll check though

    What map did you use w the route elevation profile?

    • @adventurebycycle7937

      We used the Adventure Cycling's Pacific Coast Route - Section 2 (www.adventurecycling.org/cyclosource-store/route-maps/pacific-coast-route/sp/pacific-coast-route-section-2/) We made a few modifications to our route (from the map) but mostly followed it the entire time. The maps give you elevation profiles.

    • @MeOMyKids
      @MeOMyKids 4 года назад

      bathedinshadow it was the day after Labor Day that we started because summer tourism season is considered over after that date because most kids are back in school and families have ended their travel. Anyway, less people on the roads across America in general after Labor Day. That’s what we mean.

    Great video. i would like to know how you were able to get from Crescent City (were you left your van ) to Astoria? Also who makes you wife's front saddle bags that mount to the front forks?

    • @adventurebycycle7937
      @adventurebycycle7937  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks @Cell Tester! We struggled a bit figuring out the best way to get to Crescent City, but finally determined that using a U-haul was our best option. (Not the cheapest, but quickest) We picked up a truck, put all our gear in the back and drove to Astoria. We dropped the truck off and started our adventure back to our car in Crescent City.
      The bags are Salsa Anything bags (goo.gl/iixaHJ) and Salsa Anything Cages (goo.gl/3RitUS) that fit on mounts specifically for them on our Salsa bikes. I'm not sure what other brands have similar mounts.
