- Finally another new walker has been established in The Walking Dead! We saw these types of zombies in season 1 however The Walking Dead season 11 episode 19 officially confirmed that it is in fact another variant of walker rather than them just being a creative difference in between directors. In this video I breakdown and explain what I think these variant walkers are, why they're different than the other walkers and when & where we can expect to see them. The new walkers are a massive teaser for the return of Rick Grimes in his series and Daryl's new series after The Walking Dead ends!
How do YOU feel about these different types of walkers? Who do YOU think will die in the last episode of The Walking Dead? Make sure to let me know what you think down below. Thanks for watching. I'll see you soon.

season 1 wasnt an advanced walker that shit wasnt in the comics that was a show producer mistake because they just let anyone work on that show instead of people qualified for zombies
I honestly expected them to Retcon the whole “advanced walker” thing from season 1, but the idea of walkers being different based on location like city vs rural is pretty cool.
They did mf picked up a rock on jerry You seen it yet?
@@salsakidd2636 yeah I did… what’s your point
my thought was infected more recently before the decay starts
They did retcon it. And there's nothing indicating they are different between city or rural. What we know is that the team from the end of world beyond were said to be in Ohio which is also where the commonwealth is. So it's just more of a possibility that a variant of the virus made it overseas into the states. As opposed to variants being a thing in cities and they wandered into rural areas. Which not only has no basis but if this were canon, why did it take 8+ years for these variants to find ANY rural areas? What happened is that early on the directors didn't agree with each other and when one left the other scrapped the intelligent walkers by retconning them. Which means as far as the main story for TWD goes the variant episode is the first time semi-intelligent walkers have been a thing. And the city vs rural thing I don't even know how you'd begin to give that an explanation compared to the end of world beyond.
@@gagetaylor192 I just go with the zombie rule of recently turned is faster and as the decay starts they get slow and slower only other option is someone is using zombies for tests like in resident evil
Varients are a welcome addition to the Canon, the walkers become something of an inconvenience rather then an actual threat. So for them to become more dangerous again will really amp up the tension 😊
And RIGHT when the show is ending. Perfect.
@@Kallah_DaughterOfYAHUAH Makes the tension higher tbh having these characters come across them later on because they aren't used to them and were thinking they knew how walkers and the world worked then finding out how unprepared they were
@@dylanburton4955 i guess the stakes can be higher seeing as it IS the end so no one has “plot armor” per sé “protecting” them anymore. Lol
@@Kallah_DaughterOfYAHUAH man you must not have heard of the spinoffs
@@JHG_1 yeah. But all of the main cast aren’t going.
Just Darryl, Negan and Maggie
I honestly think the scariest part was that the variant seemed to have single handily led the horde there like some kind of leader zombie or perhaps learned from the whispers maybe? Just thinking.
Maybe the whisperers learned from them and knew about the Variants.
Nah
Thats is a good theory! Learned from the whispers, very possible!
@@Yusa25 Lydia was Alphas daughter, and didn't know anything about the different varients
ST GEORGE 🧟♂️🇬🇪
They've had variants from the beginning with Morgan's wife turning the doorknob to the walker in the tank that was dormant until Rick made noise and woke him up the only one we haven't seen is one running
We have seen, in the post credit scene from World Beyond 😉
But i think we won't see more variants in the main show - That was unique to loosen up the main show again and to tease something. But it won't be of much importance in the final episodes. These variants only become relevant again in the spinoffs - because you need something new right there.
No shit. Its the first fucken thing the video states.
The Atlanta walkers run after Rick when he turns the corner on his horse.
@@John.0079 they do that because of the showrunners 😅 with the post credit scene of WB, things have changed - and now, we have a perfect szenario for the spinoffs.
@@exorzzzism2489 I thought the same thing but looks like it's more significant in the final episodes. Kinda bad writing in my opinion, like how can they justify there being none for 11 years of the virus then all of a sudden we get a bunch
I wonder if variants would've caused problems for the whisperers.
if theres more intelligent walkers that can recognise other walkers then yeah i can imagine it would be a problem for them
that new walker noticed the group when all the other walkers were walking past oblivious. Then it turned around, climbed the fence, knew they were upstairs so climbed upstairs and saw the guy was sitting so grabbed a rock to crush his skull. And it was silent.
Whisperers would have been sitting ducks.
@@tommywolfe2706 oh that would’ve been such an interesting way to end the whisper arc. Like they were just at a stalemate and neither side could win but then the variance start coming out and now whispers are getting killed and nobody can figure out why. At first they think they’re just making mistakes but then they realize that the walkers are becoming smarter and now their entire way of life will just get them killed
Oooh good point ! What if the whisperers get decimated by the variants, thus creating way more variants than what we saw so far ?
My theory is everyone is different and everyone is infected. Over time I think the infection progresses dormantly in some people over time, so when they die they are a more sentient walker. The virus adapted like most do.
My theory is that when the virus was released it was a toxic spill or somthing maybe in London or somewhere around there that became air borne and the airborne virus is weaker than the initial compound that was released would explain why we don’t see any British they could be fighting infected that are similar to the ones out of dying light and over years the airborne virus has started to mutate into the original compound
Makes sense
Interesting. I used to think something like that was happening to Shane right before he died when he was having those "visions" or whatever
Amazing theory actually
They are all infected, every single person. The virus is just dormant, so the fact the virus eventually adapts makes sense
Even the comics had “variants” of walkers, granted they didn’t vary much. I remember there were at least roamers, who obviously roam around, and lurkers, who wait until something passes by.
its not variants, just different stages of a walker
I liked the princess scenes. Bitblong but i can see how its building the relationship with mercer. Which is necessary for him to flip on the commonwealth
If you notice in season 1 ep1 there’s a walker on the bus that has a striking resemblance to another when they goto the farm. I always thought it followed Rick there
No way u recognised the face of a walker like 15 episodes apart 😭
Do you remember the episodes number??
lol yeah it was that lone walker that was walking through the field when rick and shane took that drive to kill randall
@A R don't remember it in my conscious mind thon
I noticed that too, it stuck with me because they gave him a few seconds extra screen time
I think the variants are actually a sign that they are getting closer to a cure. Like when the governor used to test to see if the Walkers retained any of their personalities or memories. If walkers have more brain function after turning, it means more of their brain is "lighting up" (like we saw in the CDC).
Or perhaps the walkers are just a small hurdle to a more advanced human that has the best of both worlds. Similar to Wayward Pines.
Outlier Walker

I like that Darabont’s work is still integral to this universe. Kinda poetic how TWD begins and ends with themes that darabont brought us.
Only cus they lost audiences and money by doing a stupid drama show rather than horror like what frank originally wanted before they fired him. Now they they've killed off so many fan favorites and twd is soo damn boring they HAVE to go back to franks ideas. It was a "hmmm what was different in season 1 compared to season 8?", "walkers that had intelligence and the ability to climb and sorta run!"
@@blacknonbinarydisabledlesbian news flash, Frank is also responsible for bringing drama to the walking dead in season 2. He was slipping up after the second half and we all can see it. He was doomed to mess up the show somehow.
@@gottfriedhub news flash and reality check, frank is also responsible for bringing the audience and the hype for all season 1. The "drama" you're referring to is the set up for what would've been his take on the comic villains in twd and would've still KEPT the intelligent walkers

Unless you're refueling your saltiness, by all means. Suck away 🥱☕️
Potentially the skill level of a walker depends on the intelligence before turning, look at TS19 the leader of the CDC, she allegedly had some property that made her more special or advanced compared to the "useless dead flesh" Jenner spoke about. This would also make sense as the variant in France who ran straight to the door was a scientist as well, therefore more intelligent. It could potentially have other factors as well, blood type, genes, exposure to the undead or just the air in the local area and location. Considering the disease is in everyone it's also possible that it's mutated inside everyone overtime and everyone who turns will be an advanced walker, we just don't see it much because it's unlikely for a survivor to turn this late into the apocalypse.
Not where suppose be snuck into scientic lab . switch lives .little while steal evnous ???
Maybe the more capable variant never died, but is simply degenerating more gradually. The problem is, the longer the series drags out, the less logical the amount of walkers who haven't completely rotted away becomes. At some points, the ligaments and muscles would make even their shambling walk impossible and they'd be crawling, possibly legless, like the one Rick finished off in the pilot.
Yeah but theyre also walking corpses. I dont think logic was a huge factor to begin with 😂
honestly i hate when people bring this fact up, i love any fantastical creature including dragons, vampires, mermaids and yes, zombies. And when you start trying to apply too much logic to those things, it takes the fun out of it
@@chattycatty3336 yea, but when the world seems to otherwise follow the laws of things being logical, reasonable, or otherwise realistic compared to the real world, ignoring the logic of "they're decaying, rotted corpses, why are they capable of even moving" is kinda silly lol
@@AshenAlpha well yeah, but again 😂 if we are saying "dead people are coming back 'alive' and walking around eating peoples faces off. Oh and they can only be killed by destroying the brain, so nothing else will kill them" then we're already throwing logic out the window😅 😂 i feel like we cant have real ZOMBIES without ignoring a decent amount of logic honestly. If we are already accepting dead people walking around, why waste time worrying about how long they can do it for 😂

upcoming walker abilities; swimming, climbing, enhanced combat abilities such as being able to grab wrists and identify weapons, ability to create a “queen bee” type of walker, enhanced nocturnal vision and hearing, speed ( possible they add sprinting ), we may also see a improvement in vocal abilities.
Ofc nyc gotta have the crazy zombies makes sense actually 😭
Its already walking dead in nyc even before the walking dead series
I'm guessing the walker variants are super rare. More population, more chances of a different variant. I'm wondering if it's a variation of the virus itself or if it has to do with the differences in the infected themselves.
I love how it all stems back to morgans wife trying the door ha dle in the first series
The best zombie variant showcase in a zombie show was in Z Nation's Mad Z zombies. I hope the Walking Dead's super variant will be as dangerous.
Which one were they again?

I thought it was cool to see those variant walkers, plus when the walker grabbed that rock to kill Jerry with was such a nice detail and nod to the walker that had the rock back in Season 1.
I do think they are going to play a factor in the last few episodes of part 3. Like when Ezekiel says "Fall back" he's probably reacting to the variant walkers.

There's only four types right? lurkers and rumors and the Smart Ones that grab handles pick up things and climb fences and the 28 Days Later rage ones from France am I missing another variant I believe that's it
I haven't kept up with the Walking Dead TV show since the Heads on the Pikes scene episode, but these new variant Zombies got me more interested
I wonder if their strongest memory or emotion before dying is what makes them different.
Would make the most sense to have a small glimpse of thier former lives present and maybe even still somewhat thier enough to know whats going on before thier brain melts away
A lot of people theorize that that’s why Shane reanimated so fast, because he was full of anger and rage right before Rick stabbed him. I buy into this theory 100%
@@stonecoldracing6 That would make sense, like in twd world beyond the French scientist turns after 30 seconds after being murdered, (yes I timed it lol)
This is a bit dark but now since the new walker variants remember some things before they died I like to think that the person is still in they’re but they don’t have control in their body so they’re just watching what their walker body does
Thought that was where they were going with Morgan after season 5 ended ftwd. He was walking amongst walkers after being shot. I thought it was a dark twist him not knowing he was dead and from a walkers perspective
I liked Princess' speech, but do wish they showed more about the variant.
G-Drake I was completely blown away with the new variant walker!!!
The only thing i hate about it is that they bringing them back in the last episodes 🥺😫
A walker variant so smart, it can still quench his thirst under the hot atlanta summer 😂
The Karen variant is gonna be crazy
Geez that's terrifying 😳 😬 😕 😐
Wonder who the manager would be?
Change her hairstyle at least
God help all the managers
Normal zombie: groan

The "wasted" Jerry part was hella funny
From the looks of it they are going for the Romero route with partial neural regeneration. Instead of rotting away like they did in the comics, their decay has stopped and after all this time without constant stimulation they are slowly retaining some of their mental faculties. In future spin offs some might be smart enough to throw rocks at survivors to try and knock them off higher ground, or maybe pick up sharp or blunt instruments to stab at or bludgeon fortifications or survivors. I hope they go down this route, it’ll make them a threat as well as scary again.
Man, i need to get back into this series. I stopped midway through S8 only because i moved and never got cable. Otherwise, i thoroughly enjoyed it.
Cable is a scam. You can find it online. Do not give a cent to these useless writers and producers
I think Gracie might be killed.
Reason being that the kids probably aren’t aware of the capabilities of climbing walkers.
If you remember how much she and Judith relied on hanging from the basement roof to escape the walkers in the flood in Alexandria?
Imagine the same but say at a play park with a climbing frame or some sort of purpose built children’s play structure.
They are like the George Romero zombies. There are a few zombies that are smart. But in movies, the smart ones don't eat people.
the thing that got me is lydia has killed hundreds off zombies yet she stabs the variant in the chest....
Veriants are the evidence that walkers are controlled by something the body and the brain are pretty much dead by that time but something in the spinal cortex. Is inside it and needs human flesh blood for keeping itself alive even when the head is decapitated. The reason why variants are variants that the spinal cortex can reach to them left or right half of the brain to get the movements informations or primal instincts. But the thing is even when they can do that, how on earth are they not knowing or not remembering anything? I would see a walker that remembers everything and somehow still needs human flesh and even explains it why. Thst would be dope and a huge closure for the series. Where a walker really talks and is not hostile
I much prefer the faster more intelligent zombie rather than the slow shamblers. The faster one's are much more intimidating.
They will be like Commons Infected from L4D, but more tanky and sneaky.
At the end of the show they really went "Oh shit we made lots of mistakes in the first season and we gotta canonize them before the show ends"
George produces world class content! Thx George! I’m hoping the due these variant walkers justice….
I think the only reason we’re going to see variant walkers mainly in cities is that cities have 100 to 1000 times the population as those barren areas and small towns. More zombies = more chances for a variant to develop.
Say there’s 1 variant to every 10,000 zombies. If you live in a giant city or metropolitan area with over 100,000,000 people, that’s a shit ton of variants. If you live in a small town with less that 6,000 people. You might never see a variant develop.
I honestly hope no one dies I've grown to love all the characters but I know they will kill off another soon its gonna happen and im gonna be sad
i think it will be a nice change from the running theme to go back to walkers being the main threat, not other survivors
That Lydia edit was exquisite my guy
The princess shit is building Mercer’s character to be on our side so
I preferred the fresh walkers retaining mild abilities to problem solve like open a door or climb a fence
Aware who talking to.
Varients sound like a scary addition smarter silent preditors they will give the whisperers a hard time for sure one moment u thing ur leading a horde then boom a random zombie thats been staring at you eats her neck meat
man its been a while since ive watched ur vids and its still as good as always!
Frank Darabont's episodes were and are still the best of the series. He had a vision for Kirkman's comic. He had ideas and inspiration from Men like Romero and others. He had Tom Savini's most successful apprentice doing all the make up. Greg Nicotero. And Darabont's walkers were more true to the historical "Zombie" or Living Dead. And if you look at Romero's work specifically, every movie had the dead doing something related to their living lives. And the scientists and other people who paid attention said they seemed to retain some memory from life, but they lacked a sense of self as well as morals, compassion, empathy, critical thinking, etc. Maybe not in those exact words. But that is what they said. I would have loved to see where Frank Darabont's TWD woulda went. $1,000 says it woulda been better and scarier. And he woulda drawn out the "beginning" as much as possible via the flashbacks he had planned not just for the main characters, but walkers who've made an impression as well. Like the one in the tank with Rick. Anyway, those are this Man's thoughts. AMC dropped the ball.
Yep instead we got feminists and absolute derps as showrunners..
I know they use props but when I watched the last episode, the walker climbed up on the roof where Jerry and Aaron were. When the walker picked up the rock, you can see him squeeze it and the rock was squishy.... 😆 🤣
We still haven’t seen that shot of the walker climbing over the wall so we will be seeing more
yes we did in the variant episode homie. go rewatch.
@@professormoo2 nope , in episode 19 we saw a hand over the fence, there's still another scene of a variant that haven't been shown and will likely be shown in one of the last episodes, no need for a rewatch🤣🤣
I know it's all speculative, but can you please do a video on all the different types and their characteristics? A little bit more in depth on their limitations, strengths, and weaknesses.
Imagine if The big character that dies becomes a variant
Did you just say that you disliked the princess episode? it was an episode about mental health... it showed only the perspective of princess with how she sees things.. it really presented how loneliness can really fuck up someone's mental state.
I wonder if this variant would be fooled by the whisperers costumes
really liking your style if editing 😂
Rick gonna show up as the leader of an army coming in to save everyone
2:14 you’ll be pleased to hear your tactic worked

Baby when that walker looked through the peephole then tried to open the door I was HOLDING MY BREATH.
while i would be heartbroken to see it, i think one of the most hard hitting deaths from a big reveal of variants would be carol.
I’ll literally never be the same
Just a 1 minute clip of a variant walker and this show already became scary again. I'm stoked for the new variants even though it took us 10 years to get here. I hope they have 28 days later types of zombies in the spin offs.
Lol they already did that dangle me over water .

Can you believe we watched so many hours of this show? Fair play to us.
I would call the variant zombies darkspawn because they have enough intelligence to climb up walls and ladders and use some form of tools
3episodes left and yet the story are not clear were its going to be, will they found there new home? Are those people they will met in the future are good people or the same with other community they met with bad people, Is theres a cure for zombie?. It seems like 3 episodes are not enough to finish this series.
I believe the Walker they show that turns its head that was the same thing that the Whisperer did when you first see them I think they were trying to fake you out for real like Aaron thought it was The Whispers
That's the same I said what if the whispers are still around I know beta and alpha are not around anymore but the other people that were in the group could still be around
If some whisperers were still around they don’t have a purpose anymore, why be a whisperer when you can normal again?
Man these sound bites is crazy lmfao
Wow he actually got it right with Rosita being the one to die
I remember Eugene talking about Walker evolving and I was excited. Than it turned out to be boring whisperers
Technically we don't know if there all walkers yet.... what if it's just more whisperers ? Because they could have easly been a bigger group but I haven't really paid much attention just an idea ...
In other words the dying light virals have invaded TWD.
It's unlikely they would ever do special infected like left 4 dead as that would be way too much
But the idea of walkers who could do human like things, put Carol and Aaron like "Umm whisperers?"
So cool, I just hope they don't get too silly with things like the tar man from that old 80s movie lol
@@foolspath imagine a tank
People think they're safe in commonwealth but a trio of tanks would decimate, then rick has his passing sacrifice
@@foolspath Rick would win lol, not to say he wouldn't struggle at all, if the left 4 dead survivors struggle then twd have their work cut out for them
Rick will lay waste to everything. He should be well rested when he finally makes his return
Does seem to be a city thing, this new variant situation. BUT how do we/they explain that FTWD entire first season is in Los Angeles and we see nothing at all of this type of walker. And as George mentioned, the ones attacking Aaron and company are nowhere near a city either.
Negan summed it up well.
"What the F**k!"
Seeing the variants climb
The walker varient causes problems through the show. Like the whisperers would kinda have to know about them, why havent they caused any major problems in the multiple years since the apocolypse started?
Well maybe it was just the part of the country they were in. It seems other parts of the world are dealing with variants
Honestly if anyone can handle the variants, it would be Rick. Sure it would be a surprise to him at first, but he'd just lay the smackdown on them after a bit
I'm not sure we need any more of the new variants in the last of the main show, it could take away from their impact on the new shows!
It makes sense for them to be more capable when they just died, but makes no sense if they're really decompose. By then a lot of the brain and body has already broken down beyond functioning.
Worth noting the variants only exist in the TV universe. NOT the comic books. The only "types" are lurker, walker, and freshies, which can jog, use doors. Climb a little. But they decay from that within days.
Im just interested to see how they adapted to this type of zombie in France what do homes and walls look like? what does a supply run look like? how are gun fights going to be like? ect
WW3 capture wives not give back
Don't work
Someone loves me ❤️
If we are being 100% honest about the how and why of the variants then the answer is very simple. The showrunner changed and his idea of what zombies can do differed from the other showrunners. The writers were always aware of that and sprinkled some hints into the story before finally getting the green light in the last season to shake things up and make it more interesting. As for the in-universe reasoning (post Darabont) I believe intelligence is what determines what variant a person takes in death. It would explain why there are so few and why the seem to be able to be able to simply do more. Their brains better wired and it would be easier for it to function at a slightly higher level.
The noise of that walker banging on the door when it makes the noise that scares me
Even my dog reacted to the noise when I played this video lol
I think it's going to be all four that will die. 🧟♂️Gabriel 🧟♀️Rosita 🧟♂️Jerry🧟♂️ Aaron
I feel like this variant is like maybe a little bit more of the brain came back still missing the "you" parts but not just the brainstem
One thing this is kind of becoming eerily similar to (especially the new runner) is DAYS GONE on PS4 which although it’s corny at times is a pretty good game. That too has variations of what they call freaks such as screamer, reacher, breaker as well as infected animals. Highly recommended if you’re trying to scratch that itch for a game that isn’t VR walking dead if you don’t have access to it.
Anyway I like they’re trying to expand the threat of the infection as time progresses and/or the locations change by creating new variants.
I’m still so far behind as I got into the original show like early 2022. Still have to watch Fear twd and the spin-offs like dead city and Daryl Dixon as well as Ricks show (I heard world beyond wasn’t that good) thanks to friggin tiktok I stumbled across that runner clip. But I’m looking forward to the new content.
Yo that best is sick at the end, could you send me a link to it🤘
Honestly dont care anymore who dies. I dont care if all of them die. I'd just want to see rick...
I guess the real walkers are the friends we made along the way
Maybe the zombies in france (or cities) are more capable due to the strain being more concentrated there?
1 thing that wasnt mention was ammunition where are they getting it all, and specific ammo as well as certain guns can only use ammo
ngl the princess character seems very forced, even now going back and rewatching it...especially because she's in a neon pink fur coat and we're supposed to believe she hasn't gotten sniped yet
Thanks for the video it was awesome!! You see things that we miss 😊
I don't think the princess scenes were about princes. I saw it as part of turning Mercer. He had five scenes to contemplate his conscience.
I still say that one of the first walkers shown in Atlanta, is Jim Carey doing a cameo 😂
I feel like they took this from the book Adrian's Undead Diary Where there was more intelligent faster and stronger variance
Straight up, I would watch your videos even if I didn't care about what you're talking about lol simply because I LOVE your voice.
You'd probably do well with narration, and could likely make some money doing it online and for other RUclips channels.
😍
Sometimes on my 1 hour drive home from work, at 7am, after a 12 hour shift, I just put your videos on because your voice is so soothing.
This video is actually a perfect example of what I'm talking about.
I actually disagree with you on a couple of things here, but still listen because, well, you make great videos, but also I love your voice lol.
Firstly, I actually loved and very much appreciated the scene with Princess. I think most people did. I teared up watching this moment with her because it related so well to my relationship with my own mother.
Secondly, I feel like the zombie variant picking up the rock was just... Too far. It felt really corny and cheesy to me. I think it grabbing Lydia's staff, climbing the wall, and opening the door was plenty, but then it picked up the rock and I was like... 🤦🏼♂️ Really?
Felt like they were just fishing for cheap reactions.
Lastly, I laughed SO HARD when Eugene squared up to Daryl. It was my favorite part of the episode, "Hoss."
Anyway, thanks for sharing your perspective and lovely voice with us. 😍
Rick was already facing variant when then End of season 11
Y’all.. I think I am behind
