Fun fact: At the end of Season 1 Episode 5, after Clementine shoots Lee, the screen goes dark, and you can hear Lee’s voice actor (Dave Fennoy) gasp. Some people thought it was Lee taking his last breath, but it’s actually Dave crying over Lee’s death.
the main reason the role got to him so deep is because the whole voice cast worked together in the same room and actually bonded so the two characters were actually talking
Yeah I posted this on another Walking dead video, it's really sad but also speaks as to how well the character was written, although it actually is his last breath, it wasn't supposed to be but it is, and it is still him crying.
I literally grew up with Clementine. When the first episode dropped in 2012, I was 8 turning 9, same as Clem. From there I was pretty much the same age as Clem naturally for every subsequent release. It feels weird to say, but this series meant a lot to me growing up. She was a cooler, kick-ass version of myself I got to experience. So, thanks for this retrospective.
exactly the same here lol. I watched until s3 on youtube. I recently bought the definitive edition, since i had almost forgotten anything, and i enjoyed every hour of it. Season 4 has i think almost the best ending of any story game.
Lee and Kenny till this day will always be the OG's, the parent figure's of Clementine, they loved her like a child of their own literally. RIP legend's 🗿
AJ is a pretty realistic kid, their psychology for him is spot on. I know 3 year olds who can damn near speak full sentences. The way a child speaks depends on the child, he's 6, his speaking isn't abnormal, he's just ahead of others because Clem was teaching him. The way you're supposed to, it speaks to her parenting. He was born into the apocalypse so, he's always in survival mode. He wasn't around other people for most of his early development so, he doesn't know social graces. Like, him trying to keep Tenn's things, he's way behind in social development so, he goes through the "mine" phase pretty late. I actually like AJ a lot, he's written pretty well and teaching him was pretty enjoyable, like it was with Clem.
Exactly, children are more intelligent then we give them credit for. Especially when survival is part of early development, because that's the most natural for us.
Yeah, children develop at different speeds, but based on their environment they *Really* shoot off in terms of how they adapt and how they speak and react to things.
@@ScarletStarManor Yes, exactly. I taught toddlers for years and they learn quickly. My aunts twins knew all of their numbers, shapes, colors, and a lot of speaking by the time they were 2. It all depends on the kid and how much time you're willing to spend teaching them.
Exactly!! My step mom always tells me storys of thing I said/did when I was 6 (I'm 17 now 18 in june) and I look at like my baby cousin who is 6 now and freak out my child hood was pretty bad at that time and I was constantly in survival mode and they say that the situations I was is had me speaking pretty ahead of my time
It definitely should of had different endings, as it said, your choices will effect your game play. That being said it helps to inform you that you could have different endings to other people bc of the relationships you made. I was upset that there wasn’t different endings. It would’ve been interesting
It's been confirmed that telltale did not forget about Christa. What actually happened was they decided she, and many other characters, just became lost forever, with an unknown fate. It wouldn't be realistic to find every single person we've lost touch with, so they made the tough decision to just let our imagination do the answering..
For season 2 I spent the entire game asking myself: why is everyone treating clementine like she’s an adult? Just because she’s capable doesn’t mean you (the adults) have to send her into danger every single time.
The game itself even notices that. During your plot to escape the hardware store, Clementine can choose the option "Why is it always me?" when they ask her to sneak out through the roof. 😂
@@OZYMANDI4Snot just that, but when luke brings it up as well, and another time when he tells bonnie to stop trying to get clem to do something dangerous. if lee was there, he wouldve shut that shit down bc he didnt like sending her out to do dangerous things 💀 i wonder if he would even like most of s2 cast with the way they treated clem (especially upon first meeting her, and locking her in a shed where she nearly died!)
I don’t think any scene will top Lee gripping the glass having blood run down it and his fight through a horde of zombies to save Clementine. I still go back and watch the scene every once and a while.
I think Conrad killing Badger deserves a close second spot on the list, it is just badass, revengefull and Conrad can finally rest after it... He was one of the best charactersof the entire season, the only thing that didnt made people love him as it should it was his only mistake in the season, point a gun on Clem. Even i when i first see this, iwas like "kill this man, Clem for the win" but when you see the other side, you see that,he apologises with Clementine, is like a very nice guy, even saves Javi if he dies on Kate accident and the best of all... He can still fucking make it! Kenny has 4 of 5 endings that he dies and 1 when he maybe is alive. Luke, Pete, Nick (witch i liked) and Lee are dead. And thats what make him special.
@@thedancingguy828 I tried to act in a way that made sense for Javier, so I didn't factor in my previous experiences with Clementine when I made decisions. I still had to shoot Conrad though. He's not just threatening Clementine; he's threatening your nephew/adopted son.
I don’t see Clem becoming disabled at the end as a downer ending. Disability in the Walking Dead comics was always treated as a thing that can happen to certain characters if they live long enough and becomes a normal thing they adapt to (see Rick and Carl). Clem becoming disabled at the end can be read as further showing how far she has come in finding people she can trust and building a community that can support her and she still continue to lead and support in return. This was made pretty evident when Clem reflects that she wouldn’t last two weeks if she and AJ were still on the run on the road and AJ replies that they no longer have to run thanks to her. In many points throughout history humanity has been shown to be at its best and most compassionate when it cares and allows room for its disabled members, a theme that is very much at the heart of Walking Dead by having its two main characters - Rick and Clem - be disabled but continue to be leaders and a primary part of the community that everyone respects and cares for. Those are my thoughts.
i agree 100%. i will say i would like to add that i really don’t like how they talk about disability in this video, especially considering they used a slur to describe clementine’s disability
Fun fact: if you want the real ending to season 1, when you have to decide Clem to shoot or leave you, if you let the timer run out, Clem will decide herself, it’s basically everything you taught Clem and you get to see it yourself because you didn’t get to decide for her EDIT: Wow, didn't know lots of people would like this and make it top comment, thanks! Also, someone down in the replies said AJ does this exact same thing in Season 4 Ep 3 where you decide Lilly's fate, BUT... f***** Lilly, I'd make sure AJ shoots her, but fun update fact for everyone seeing this 2 years later
I think the reason Rebecca switched up so often emotionally is due to her pregnancy hormones. Therefore, I do think her character is decent and adds some realism.
Lori in the comics is the same in the early issue one minute she’s calling rick a murder next minute agreeing with him and they even explained it as hormones in the comics so this would be the case
@@Archonator that would kind of suck cuz it does have a factor but I always felt Rebecca made her change (un natural as it may seems from an outside perspective) because she was thinking “I am going to be a mother” because she saw the difference in clem and Sarah at least. I think clem made her think about her babies future, which in turn would make us feel the same way no matter if we liked Rebecca or not.
Yap. A heavily pregnant woman who is not only high on hormones but also suffers from anxiety maybe even depression about the fact that she is to bring a child into that fucked up world would easily and understandably have severe mood swings and be extremely opposed to any unknown outside factors like Clem. Once Clem had been accepted into the group, Rebecca's maternal instincts would kick in and she would become basically Clem's "besty". I think the writers nailed her character.
Answering the last question about Clem's ethnicity - she's mixed. Her dad's African-American, and her mom is at least partially East Asian. Clem was originally modelled after a Japanese game developer's daughter; which is why a lot of people think she looks more Asian than Black in the earlier games of the series.
His name is Derek Sakai and he was the art director. Yes, his daughter looks very much like Clementine and he confirmed in an interview she was his inspiration for the character design.
i honestly thought she was white when i first watched some 1 play the game. mainly cause i didn’t pay attention to her parents + the art style in 1 & 2
Really goes to show how Telltale doesnt remember their own characters personailty. Same way they were going to make Kenny the season 2 villain. Look up season 2 episode 5 better to sleep. Chilling
@@ranvirmalhi4850 yeah trying to make kenny the villain was... a choice. like the original plans for s2 he was supposed to be the full season big bad. that wouldn't have worked out well, because we know half of the player base will just go along with kenny even if he is a tyrant. lmao.
man that would have been so good if crazy christa showed up instead. she had every reason to hate clementine because she seemed to blame her lover's death on her.
What I like "or hate" about Sarah is that she is the complete opposite of Clem. While Clem had Lee as a father figure, to show her how to survive in this world, even if it meant some of her childlike innocence had to be taken away as a consequence, Sarah is an example of what happens if you continue to shelter your children even in the apocalypse.
@@philly_sports1558 Exactly! I always found her to be a tragic figure too, since her circumstances with being sheltered and not being taught the essential skills to survive the apocalypse, along with how her mental state progressed throughout the story practically doomed her. I always found that sad. Her chances of survival were so low and she was already dealt a pretty bad hand with everything considered.
Clementine also got a pretty crappy start since she had to hide up in a treehouse without her family (and a zombified babysitter), but then Lee came across her house, and from that point onward he was able to teach Clementine what she needed to know. Sarah had her dad, but he didn’t do what Lee did for Clementine.
@@umbra1948 yea I think it’s a huge personality thing along with Sarah being a little older. I feel if that happened to Sarah and she hid in the treehouse for two days she wouldn’t reach out to lee to take that chance for survival. She’d listen to her fathers saying even if there’s not any hope where she’s at.
It’s sad how we never found out what happened to Christa. I feel like if telltale wouldn’t have gone out of business then I think they would’ve made a dlc explaining what happened to Christa
Dude, everything that went wrong during that season was Luke's fault. He opposed Bill Carver but what was his backup plan? He didn't even try to size power for himself to make a better settlement. He created a power vacuum, and I desperately hate him for it 😒 😤 🥺
I believe that Luke's drowning death was supposed to show us that even in the apocalypse there are still lots of ways to die naturally if you're not careful.
Season 1 was a classic, definitely has the best cast of characters and great level of storytelling. Lee was a legend and his death was one of the most impactful I’ve ever seen, watching so many youtubers cry to it (even 2012 Pewdiepie) really had me intrigued in the game before I actually got into it. Seeing Lee’s story of redemption from criminal to caretaker as the apocalypse gives him “a new day” to start his life over is always amazing. I agree with you on season 2 having those new details be great, I love the menu changing after you finish an episode (and its music), alongside the beautiful credit songs (all though Amid The Ruins is my least favorite of the season, its credit song “Salty Seas” is my favorite of the whole game franchise. I do also agree that the cast of new characters felt like they got pushed aside hard for Kenny, Jane and Luke (to an extent). Nick and Sarah had heavy wasted potential, both dying meaningless deaths after being saved and doing nothing. And Carlos kept switching back and forth between wanting our help and being like “You’re just a kid.” though I don’t think he was the leader, I’m pretty sure Pete was before he died then Luke took over and was the last one standing. And yes, it was confirmed that it was originally going to be Kenny vs Luke, but last minute got changed and Luke got that crappy lake death. It was however also confirmed back in the day that Kenny was originally going to be the Carver of the season and return as the main antagonist, so maybe him vs Luke only wouldve worked there. But overall Kenny’s endings to the season hit the best for sure, his sacrifice at Wellington’s gates is super emotional no matter if you stay or not. I don’t hate season 3, and I agree with some of your points on how playing as an adult again was cool and how the supporting cast was more consistent, but it still is probably my least favorite. Season 2 holds above this one purely because season 2 has the most nostalgia for me since I remember all the hype around it while it was coming out. The storytelling in this season isn’t anythign spectacular though, and overall the story isn’t super necessary to go into season 4. Mariana was cool though, and getting to cave in the head of Badger (the bald dude who killed her) was VERY satisfying. And yeah, the translation of the season 2 choices to here...not good. Season 4 was a breath of fresh air for me, I loved the graphical improvements and added gameplay, they really helped make the game stand out. I liked AJ, and bought into his articulate-ness because Clem probably wanted to teach him the basics faster than she learned so that he would be quicker to adapt to their world. I preferred Louis as a love interest for Clem since he offered a sense of lightheartedness that felt missing in the group since before Omid died. Yeah the Lee flashback was very well done, and Clem losing her leg was sad but at least she lived. I absolutely adore this series!
@@volodymyr_bots I can’t remember? But it was either because people suspected some parts of the game was rushed, a voice actor remembered doing more lines, someone found concept art, someone hacked into the game and found more dialogue, it was somewhere among those lines but I do remember it being pretty concrete and like a known fact among the fanbase.
I actually appreciate the 3rd season because of how your choices actually affect the ending more than the first two. Having Lee inevitably die in the first one works because it helps the theme of struggling to hope during the darkest of times but if all telltale games ended basically the same then it would be repetitive and less impactful since our decisions don’t really matter.
Personally, I didn’t have a problem with AJ’s age and how he spoke in s4. My 5 year old sister is bilingual (totally able to say sentences in both languages and can switch between the two on the fly) and ofc it depends on the kid but they can be capable of some amazing things.
I mean, I thought he was totally believeable as a child, he acts like such and all, also, I suppose that a fast life which doesn't let you be a child would hugely grow you up.
AJ was more so unbelievable in how good his hand eye coordination was and how he wasnt underweight..like he and clem realistically should have been much thinner as I doubt they had acess to that much food. Also him surviving past infancy was unrealistic as they constantly ran out of supplied for him and he had little warmth in the winter. But his speach wasnt unrealistic at all a lot of kids even 50 years ago spoke fully by 5..there is just no incentive for many to do so now a days so they dont. Kids in general today developed core skills later than in previous generations, because parents coddle them and or dont make the effort to develop those skills daily. So its not that AJ is advanced, but that kids in many first world western countries are falling behind.
I’m so glad you addressed Luke getting replaced by Jane and the other cabin group getting replaced as well. This really pissed me off. I can’t tell you how much that frozen lake sequence destroyed my interest in the finale and series as a whole. I was so pumped for the Kenny vs Luke business to go down and with Season 3 confirmed I really believed more of a cast would survive through. How naive I was 😒
honestly it would have been better if you could get "different" endings by choosing between luke (not jane) and kenny but then making the story so that clementine will end up alone regardless, so you don't have to do those weird flashbacks in season 3 of everyone dying--just take care of that in season 2 and then season 3 can feature clem and her story more prominently.
Yeah when I first played through season 2 I found it strange Jane left only to return for the very next episode, it would be like if Molly suddenly came back to help Lee to get clem back. Jane should've been kept out from the final episode of S2, her purpose and role as a brief mentor to clem was fulfilled and it would've helped push luke a little further, as it is incredibly obvious he somehow had a thing for her and with her gone permanently we could've seen him deteriorate to the point where a confrontation with Kenny is possible, with luke pinning everyone leaving or dying on Kenny as it was Kenny's idea to break out of carvers camp plus Jane's dialogue about Sarita was hella odd since Jane hadn't even interacted with her. Lots of Jane dialogue post luke death seemed like it was intended to be his. Jane purely staying with the group because of clementine is definitely some hypocrisy as the women herself talks about attachments and how they'll drag you down and it would've been suitable for her character to stay away. Kenny vs luke would've been much more impactful as we know both men are capable of good and helping clem it would've made quite the fun match up as we have a season 1 character who was present to the end and appearing in season 2 or a new character from the start of s2 that can potentially survive into s3. If clem decides to shoot Kenny and then abandon Luke it directly goes against Lukes idea of people you can trust while still embracing what Jane had taught clem. Season 2 suffered the most from rewrites.
You missed the point of the lake sequence then. People like Luke don't survive anymore. A subtle reminder that people like Lee wouldn't have made it at that stage in the outbreak
@@BoolyK In a realistic situation that wouldn't be the case. Humans are social creatures, and in survival situations those who are well socialized and can produce strong social bonds are the ones most likely to survive. That's how we survived as a species for over 200,000 years.
@@minutemansam1214 bro that’s not true at all sometimes people make bad logical decisions because there making moral decisions it’s a hole cluster fuck your morals won’t protect u in a world like that
I recall at the end of the game that AJ can say to Clem something about finding a book in the schools library about woodworking and that he and Willy could possible try to build her a wooden prosthetic. Think Clem called it "the foot book"
When Clem's leg was bit i remember thinking of Lee and how he felt and it was almost a exact reflection. You could see Lee in Clem as if they were the same. And in aj you can see lil Clem. It's so heart touching.
No form of media has ever made me tear up except for this game. I got really emotionally invested, and borderline traumatized from seeing what happens to all these characters. This game is a a work of art.
There was few games I've played where I actually cared about the characters; Red Dead Redemption was the first protagonist death I've seen, seeing John Marston get shot up like that was definitely a shock to me. I did play through Telltale's TWD when I was really young, but I never played S1, I kind of watched through the series tbh.
There IS one thing I absolutely loved in Season 2 and it was Carver's death. Not the fact that he was killed, but how it at least TRIES to connect narratively; A choice you're given when this happens is wether Clem gets to watch him die or leave. I don't think it's meant to just give players a choice of wether they want to watch a gruesome death or not, but to somehow put some layer on Clem. Clem probably gets used to violence and bloodshed one way or another, but to give us a scene where it all started was a good idea. That moment really did feel like a defining moment of Clem's life, something that would change her forever.
i made clem a survivor above all, she will live if other have to die to ensure it ill make it so, the only time that changed was meeting kenny again in season two, i bent heaven and hell over my knees to make sure he and i made it, then we had to let him go at the end....
The bit ab Christa and Omid’s baby makes so much more sense. The baby of the people Lee trusted to ask to look after Clem? Way more emotionally investing
bro aint gonna lie, javier was literally one of my favourite characters in the entire series, up there with kenny, lee and the rest. He just came with too much extra baggage no one cared about, but by himself, and especially with clem he was great
Javi is great it's just that at the time (hell even today) people were here for Clem, not some new guy we never knew before, it's a bit of a jarring change when you as deep as the third season I really think more Clem sections, better consequences for your choice at the end of S2 and better characters aside from Javi could have made it one of the greatests, instead it's kinda there I guess, it's okay
Fun fact: I spoke full sentences and even read a little at only 3. It really does all depend on how a kid is raised. Clem is shown to never talk to him with babytalk, which can stunt a child's development. But he's still a kid in the fact that he absorbs everything Clem does, makes mistakes, and is still developing his moral compass.
I also started to read quite early(somewhere around 4), though I can't remember whether my speech reflected that, but I also fully believe it's possible for a 5-year-old to be as articulate as AJ
Yeah I can agree with you still doesn't mean that AJ shouldn't have been 8 or even 10 years old, would of fucked with the timeline but whatever it is just better for the character
yeah development is kinda weird like that, like me and my brother could pretty much read and write before we were even sent to kindergarten. my brother could hold a very coherent conversation with adults, he was the more talktive of us during that age range because i was more introverted. i think that part of aj was fine. though how strong he is was kinda hard to keep my suspense of disbelief. it was definitely heart breaking at times seeing just how hardened and callous he can be, growing up in such a cruel world and him being the only kid in the games who's never known a world before the walkers, that was really sad.
My brother at the age of 3 had this huge plan about how to run away from home and go live with my grandparents states away from where we lived at the time. And apparently that plan could have succeeded if he felt like executing it. So AJ here being able to talk pretty much full sentences is really not that out of the question.
You know, I love Clem, and I'm really happy she survived. I actually got choked up at the reveal where she hobbles over to AJ on her crutches. But noone ever seems to mention that the game had to break the source material's rules for zombie bites to make this happen. It feels like WAY too much time passed between Clem getting bit on the leg while climbing that ledge, and the scene in the barn with the axe fake out, for her to have had any chance at survival.
Yeah I thought that too, you could even see the bags under her eyes like she had a fever. It was kind of annoying to me but I still loved the game either way and I even started crying when Clem came back.
It was confirmed that only 17 minutes passed between Clementine getting bit and her leg was also bleeding meaning the infection had no circulation. The fever and pale skin was caused by too much blood loss.
I’m so happy that Season 4 was actually good and a great ending to the series. Too often series end really lackluster or bad and you just have to grit your teeth or believe in “headcannon” but Walking Dead delivered a complete story and I’m so thankful for that and Skybound working so hard to bring it to life.
Also, in terms of some of the questions you asked: It was confirmed that for season 4 either Lilly or Christa were considered. So knowing that they were even thinking about having her return, we can have hope she escaped that robbery situation. And for Clem’s ethnicity the answer seems to jump between her being a lightskinned black girl or her being blasian. Her dad is very visibly a black male in the photo they have in the house (also explaining why she mistook Lee for her father when he first came into her house), but her mom is a mystery. A latest statement was that she’s fully black, but the VA and creators of S1 said she’s Blasian, so there you go as the best answer. AND, in case you don’t know, Telltale got “revived” last year by LCG Entertainment (Telltale is now a new company with the old name) and The Wolf Among Us 2 was announced at the 2019 Game Awards. “Telltale 2.0” (as a lot of people call it) is partnering with Adhoc Studios to make the long awaited sequel. Adhoc is formed by ex-Telltale employees, primarily those who made the first game which is great, and based on the teaser, they got old voice actors back as well. So if you cared about Bigby Wolf, get hyped for next year!
I'd say blasian, also AMOGUS 2 better be great like the first one because after ending the game on a fucking cliffhanger and then not even making the next one really pissed me off
I think Clem is supposed to be mixed because we see a picture of her parents in season 1 episode 1 and she thought lee was her father, but we don’t know what her mother’s ethnicity was.
I dont know why people think Clementine's mum is Asian. She's clearly black in the photo they show in season 1. She's just lightskin that's all. Maybe they retconned it later, not too sure.
No matter how many times I hear the Season 1 ending music I still burst into tears. I grew up with this game. I really hope we get to see how Clementine is doing soon.
That's actually Clem's official theme, I think the track is called Clem's Suite on the soundtrack but it will never feel right seeing it in a scene with out Lee and Clem together (Except Clem's "Death" with AJ)
I hope we don't, there's only so many times we can expect someone to make a good season and it's a miracle the fourth one turned out as well as it did. I'd love to see more games but I think that if we ever get a season 5 it will probably screw up Clementine's legacy beyond recognition.
@@fandyus4125 I agree with you. Even though I will always long to follow Clem’s story, I know down deep inside that any more games might just make it feel dragged out. Skybound could have dragged it out too but they didn’t and I respected them at first for it. But now they are ruining her story with these shitty ass non-canon books that no one likes! It was beautiful the way it was! We don’t need books! Especially written by Tillie. All of the community agrees that they aren’t canon so they aren’t. We all know it’s Tangerine.
I didn’t realize just how bad Season 2 was until I replayed it. The characters getting killed off and replaced robbed their deaths of any actual sacrifice or impact on the situation at hand. None of the choices really carried over from Season 1 or to Season 3. It definitely capitalized on the bleakness of the apocalypse, but not much else. Plus, the adults always relying on Clementine made them seem totally incompetent. The story was still good, even if unsatisfying.
to be honest the series went downhill as soon as Season 1 ended. We just didn't notice it at the time. It was a pretty messy production overall when you look back at it. But that's because it was ambitious.
Yea... And that sucks because I enjoy the story to a degree, and it's interesting seeing Clementine travel on her own But the big problem is how disconnected things felt from the frist one in terms of choices I mean Omid and Christa pretty much die a minute or so in...
i agree. none of the choices really mattered, it all came down to who you chose to kill/ stay with in the last episode. however it’s also very important, bringing aj into the story and showing how clem has grown to love and care for him so much
Looking back I think season 2 was the worst of the bunch. I like it but damn, it was bleak. S3 was good and S4 was great, so I think the series only went uphill after that.
Interesting. I seem to recall a lot of people hated Season 2 when it first came out but liked it in hindsight. Now it seems people are saying they liked Season 2 when they played it the first time but now dislike it in hindsight.
I was looking for this. When the game came out, there were kids in my school arguing that she was white or Latina. Her family is shown in a photograph in season one
I completely agree on season 2. I actually liked it a lot at first, but now that you mention it...a showdown between Luke and Kenny would have been so much cooler. I didn't care for Jane nearly as much as Luke, who I adored. I also wish that the baby was Omid and Christa's. I ended up caring for AJ regardless but I would've been invested more quickly were he theirs instead.
@Willham there is definetly trauma involved. You dont live through the shit he has without being somewhat fucked up. It was kinda shown with him being overly paranoid. I guess you could argue everyone would be traumatised in this world and his reactions are "natural" but that doesnt change that his environment would drastically impact his personality
when living in a world like he has too he HAS to grow up, same with clem acting older than her age at only age 11 it's only been 2 years since the first game yet she acts and does thing just like and even better than the adults who she's with
@@KimimaruOnara imagine when aj goes with the person you saved to the people outside the border and they get kidnapped and clementine goes on a killing spree

I agree that in s2 it should've been Luke vs Kenny. Imo it would've been more impactful and they were building it up since they met, and Luke is MUCH more likeable than Jane. Also Jane was killed in the dumbest way, I really don't like Jane.
i always felt like the s2 finale was impactful enough with kenny and jane, but i agree. i like jane (she’s not a favorite but she’s alright) but i never thought of luke vs. kenny and that would’ve been _really_ interesting to see.
@@Hellothere-kl1xy to me the tension between Jane and Kenny was so last second, as well as her relationship to Clem. Shes just really selfish, and so is Kenny, but he's a 'look out for me and my family' tyoe of guy
When i had to choose between kenny and jane, i didnt even hesitate to choose kenny, but if it had been luke id probably have struggled a lot more to choose
@@Viridiiana I guess Jane not really being the type to care for a child is exactly why they did her instead of Luke, though. They probably wanted Clem to be alone either way and felt it better to kill off a character we already hate, as opposed to Luke, who most of us liked.

The only other time i cried was at the end of Mass Effect 3. Not because of the ending, but because the journey was over. Especially with Tali as love interest, her goodbye was heartbreaking.
The fact that Lee, no matter what you chosse, ends up dying, is heartbroken. But its great, because this moment is the one that says to you... You cant save them all... and thats okay.
The new frontier has so many weird ass situations, like when Javier and a two kids push a huge ass brink trunk like its nothing. Javier being john wick is hilarious also. The final season was good, the first 2 episodes where a little drawn out. But it was a great ending. Just wish Kenny would have shown up one last time.
When they mention meeting up with another group of survivors to trade at the end of the final season, part of me hoped it would show that and Kenny would be one of them
Yeah, I think that Kenny’s death didn’t serve his character well. He’s deuteragonist for the first two seasons, but his death only took a few minutes???
During my 1st playthrough of the 1st Game, when it came to the moment Lee gets bitten, I literally reset the Episode like 6 times, because I thought I made some mistake that got him bitten. At some point I just rolled with it. 3 days after I finished the game, I learned that Lee getting bitten is just the Scripted Part of the Story...
@@mega_slam It's mostly because they were close to deadline when they were working on the last Chapter. And post-poning a Release wasn't that standard back then.
@@mega_slam the one thing that really sucks is the player is given a choice to cut off his arm, something that you've seen Hershal do and survive in the show, and its just a too late kinda deal, Lee will always die and cutting off his arm just makes the rest the episode harder as now he has to deal with the blood loss and lack of AN ARM
When it comes to Krista, I'm pretty sure Telltale looks at it as "sometimes people just die and you don't know what happens" I think clem eventually came to terms with that
Christa and Omid are the shining example of wasted potential characters of the series. Instead of making them Clementine's companions on the journey through season 2, they just got rid of them in favor of bunch of characters we don't give a shit about.
Someone finally said it!! There’s so many characters that COULD be dead but we don’t know, and the only reason we ever found out Chuck died was by complete chance! I hope Molly’s still alive
they didn't. she originally played a bigger part in the first drafts of season two but for some reason she was cut. one of the lead writers said she almost came back in season 4 instead of lilly.
@@trevorward6040 Yes II did hear we did discuss about Christa and what could had happened to her. Unfortunately nothing was ever solidified and I think the higher ups wanted to bring back Lilly in S4.
Cleminitine was the child character I never knew I could love in a game. We associate children in games with being annoying but her innocence and sorrow makes her impossible to hate. It made Lee's death all the harder. The line I've remembered since I was 12. 'Keep that hair short.'
I loved season 3, Javier is one of my favorite characters in the series honestly. I’m really disappointed that he wasn’t even mentioned _once_ in my playthrough during season 4. I missed the guy.
I like how this series is lead by POC, all four games have a POC lead and it's a nice change as we're usually left out. Also AJ's speech is normal for his age, if a child is taught well they can form perfectly fine sentences, this is especially important if they're constantly in survival mode. AJ couldn't be a baby, he couldn't be a child, he had to grow up, if you look at children in real life who've survived abusive households many of them seem much older than they really are
As far as kids go, I work with 3 to 5 year olds and it's actually kinda a whiplash seeing the stark difference talking to a 3 year old then a five year old. Five year olds can actually be really articulate, and I can see AJ developing verbally a little faster than what is considered "normal" given he's all Clem has to talk to which gives him a lot of examples.
I absolutely loved the telltale adaption. Clementine is such a strong character. Formed and built by those around her. I love the game so much, it was an absolute joy
Same bro, I can't stress enough how satisfying it is seeing Clementine go from a shy little girl to a teenage badass. I'm definitely going to miss this franchise but I'm glad they ended it on a good note.
I still remember bursting into tears everytime I saw the ending of season 1 😭 I watched multiple RUclips let's players and wanted to see the decisions each of them took
Telltale and Skybound did really great at the Final Season. They gave Clem a proper ending. Well most of us don't want to end her story like we do want a Season 5, but I guess what matters is Clem is happy wherever she is right now.
@@bullfrog8878 I definitely like the route they took, we assume aj kills her as she is Lying there as pale as Lee was, can hardly move, so we see aj fulfill her wish to not let her turn, and then, they drop that big bombshell ending where we have accepted clem is dead, only for her to turn up at the end, it's a perfect ending.
LMAO I died at the end when he said "what is Clem's ethnicity?" @CastledCard she's meant to be black/African American (or URBAN, as Kenny put it lol). That's why everyone thinks Lee is her dad at first. Also When Christa and Omid are introduced the moment between Lee and Christa is also an indicator. Christa: "you're not her dad." Lee: "that obvious, huh?" Christa:"it is to me"
Im pretty sure she was supposed to be blasian. Her dad is obviously black, but clementine was also based off of one of s1's producer's/developer's daughter, who was asian. I think i also saw something about melissa Hutchinson comfirming clementine was blasian around s3 but i cant confirm that for sure
Clems years before the world became infested with zombies has to be one of her biggest driving forces now since she knows that everything *Can* be okay.
Kennys transformation from season 1 to season 2 ending is so good, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a video game change a character so much. He makes John Marston in Red Dead Redemption 2 look like a joke
18:52 I went into season 3 extremely skeptical, but soon I started to freaking love javi. He’s an incredibly cool protagonist who was more enjoyable to play as than I expected. So yeah, same, loved season 3 so far and wish it were even longer Came back to this a month later so I had a chance to get and finish the final season, and 28:58 ACTUALLY made me spit out my drink
as 'reaslistic' as people may want to call it, i really hate post apocalyptic characters that are unconcerned with anything but surviving the day. Javi was the first character in TWD since season 1 that actually seemed like he cared about things that weren't surviving. Like yeah, he still spends a lot of time keeping his family safe but the fact that he sexually pursues his brothers wife, gets stoned on occasion, and is overall a genuinely friendly guy makes him feel more like a real person, instead of the wooden caricatures of season 2
Javi was THE BEST thing about Season 3 (other than Clem). Everyone else was just either annoying or an asshole (Clem was great). If season 3 was just like the beginning in the town where it was just Javi and Clem and the whole season was Javi and Clem trying to get their families back it would have been so much better.
I’d say S1 and S4 are mixed. S3 is S3 messed up character designs and Clem wasn’t fully spared. S2 I dunno. S4 definitely nailed her design though… the definitive Clem that all future designs should be based from. Maybe just make her look a little older in any hypothetical post S4 thing with Clem
Actually in season 2 when you are at the riverbank with Nick and Pete, you can see Christa's walker corpse among the bodies when you discover the guy asking for water. I wish it would've served a reaction from Clem but if I remember correctly, she doesnt say anything when she sees it. It's clearly Christa's model though, hair and clothes.
I could see that being the case, however I feel like if that's true then they would have had Clem (and by extension us) react to that, and then there would be no need for Clem to keep asking new people if they have Christa
Okay...I'm late to this video, but I wanted to say this - I came into this franchise shortly before Season 4 got released. I had the luxury of playing all three Seasons back-to-back. The first season was so emotional and a roller coaster. The characters were more "alive" and like you said, we got invested in them more so when they died, it hit harder. I'm still reeling from Lee.... The St. Johns - I had this feeling right away that's what was going on, but it was still disturbing to watch it unfold. Katjaa going out as she did....that shocked me. I still can't believe it sometimes. The Stranger I think was the best villain of the series - because in a way, he wasn't really a "villain", but just someone who got pushed into such a role. When I came into this fandom, I was told four things - Lee is awesome, people are split over Kenny/Jane, Season 2 was the best (at that point) and we didn't talk about ANF. For the longest time, I felt I was in the minority - I couldn't stand Season 2; to me, it was the weakest of the series. And when I simply shared that, I got so much hate for it. The characters are so bland, Kenny is alive (somehow), and this season divided people over AJ (some even wanted Telltale to kill him off so Clem could be "free"). Apparently, according to the original devs, Season 2's cast was meant to not survive - any of them - which is why so many of them died off so quickly and why we're not really given any background to them. And originally, Kenny was meant to be the big bad, but along the way, Carver got created and since Kenny was already factored in pretty heavily, they just changed his purpose. ANF - the hate for this season boils down to two reasons, and both of them are kinda the same, really - we're not playing as Clem, but Javi. That's really about 90% of the hate for the season. The rest is how it doesn't feel like "your Clem". That's what got thrown out a lot when ANF debuted originally apparently. Also yes, how the first two episodes are really just one cut up into two parts. Tripp/Ava's death was so....wasteful, really. Eleanore did such a 180, it was almost as bad as Rebecca's. Kate sort of throwing herself at you, and Javi really not minding it felt sometimes is an issue. I get David is meant to be built up as some sort of jerk since the world has gone to Hell, and they have been traveling together for so long now without any sort of sign or word from David, at some point....it happens more often that people like to admit I think. Not defending it, just making sure both sides are pointed out. So, comparing Seasons 2 and 3 - I agree that Season 3 is the better season. It's just a slight detour to ensure Clem is alive before her final arc I think. Still better with more fleshed out characters than Season 2. And yes, Mariana was a treasure. With Season 4, we weren't even sure if we were going to get Episodes 3 and 4 initially. Briefly, when it comes to AJ's age - having worked with K - 2 for about eight years, while you *can* encounter a child who's that cognizant, it is *highly* rare so yeah, it's hard to believe he's only 5 a lot of the time in this season. I had to keep questioning if he really was 5 and not say....7 or 8. And Clem being 16 by the time Done Running starts? Ehh...she's more like 16-18 in my opinion, which would put AJ about 5-7. And people really were divided over Violet/Louis. I liked Louis, but, I *knew* what happened to him was going to happen sooner or later. Same with Tenn; loved Tenn, but Jesus.....it was bound to happen. I cried seeing Lee again - and a few didn't like how Clem had this "attachment" to him (in the community I was part of), most loved the touching farewell. I know I did; it kind of felt like it validated how we "raised" Clem to this point. Now, the final ending - Clem surviving divided the fan base as well - so many wanted her to die, so many in fact were angry that she lived, they felt "cheated", for whatever reason. A few even said that Telltale "chickened out on a proper ending" and requested Skydance correct the mistake. There's always going to be those edgelords that require a "grimdark" ending to everything they play. That said, Season 4 is where it's at. Sorry for the wall of text - I just don't get a chance to discuss this franchise much anymore. Not without being made fun of for how I didn't like Season 2 and felt ANF was "okay".
How is Christa not showing up again a "plothole?" I feel like people use "plothole" to mean anything. Plothole means inconsistency not something that is never covered. Would Lily not showing up again before S4 have been a "plothole" up till then? lol
Yeah pretty sure someone going missing in the apocalypse and never being seen again isn't a plot hole. It's just a thing that could happen, and in this case did. 🤷🏽♂️
It's a plothole because it's a major question that doesn't have a resolution, which in a story based game that takes great lengths to maintain narrative consistency, is a plot hole. A large question you have throughout season 2 is "What happened to Christa", and in a story based game, that's just something you can't ignore. It would be like if season 3 never explained what happened to Kenny/Jane. Sure, season 3 would play out exactly the same if you remove the cutscenes of what happens after the end of season 2, but everyone would have just been left confused as to what happened. You could just say "well it's a zombie apocalypse so they probably died", but then that creates the plot hole of what actually happened to them. Lily didn't need to come back in season 4 technically because her relevance to the story ended after she left the group, but Christa had an albeit small but important role at the end of season 1 and beginning of season 2, so having no resolution to her character at all just seems like a weird oversight that Telltale just forgot about. In fact, Lily coming back in season 4 shows that they did take great care in wrapping her story up, leaving no question unanswered, that is, except what happened to Christa. Even having her show up as a zombie would have answered the question in an abrupt way, but the fact we know NOTHING of what happened is just a slightly dissapointing plot hole that we don't get resolution to. Hell, they even made sure to give resolution to 2 characters most players forgot about, Clementine's parents. And before someone mentions other characters that left who we don't get 'resolution' for, like Bonnie, it was never really a question or goal to find or figure out what happened to Bonnie after she left. Her relevancy to the story ended after she left, so it's not that important to figure out what happened to her after she left Clementine. But because Christa was someone that was important to Clementine that had an unanswered question of what happened to her, it's a plot hole because it's something we never find out.
I love this series so much, and I cried my eyes out when Lee died. When I saw him show back up in a dream sequence in Season 2, I marked tf out. One of my favorite game characters of all time.
I made my bf play it and he finished s1 last night, he said a game has never made him cry that hard . when I first finished it I called him and was crying about how sad and fucking devastating the game is and he didn't think it was really that deep, but when i had him play it he told me "you really weren't exaggerating! this game is fucking sad!" 😂😂 my favorite games ever.
No matter how rushed or 'bad' the series got, I've always kept loving it for what it was. I shed literal tears thinking we'd never get the end to Clem's story
i couldn’t agree more about the s2 take; a buildup to Kenny vs Luke would’ve been one of Telltale’s greatest plotlines because they’re both so likable and close to Clementine
As a new dad that recently watched all of the walking dead walkthroughs on RUclips, I really liked AJ. It made me think about how I would've handled that situation with my son. It really puts it into perspective
I'm far from being a dad, I know that for sure, but Jesus, the questions that sometimes AJ throws at you are really hard to explain to a little kid, even more knowing that he'll counter attack with at least another "why" to your answers dragging you into an "AJ will remember that" spiral
I know I'm really late to this comment but I felt the same due to being the same age as clem and my little brother being a little younger than AJ. I think it's funny to see how depending on our own personal life it might considerably change how we play and feel towards the characters.
Walking Dead is literally one of the games that I grew up with. I remember back in 2012, when I was 8 year old, I was really sad when Carley and Lee died, Kenny, Christa and Omid was gone and Molly left. Seriously Season 1 was so well written. The twist, betrayals, the hard choices. Being in a journey together with Clem was an honor. I loved how she was developed althroughout the Season. Season 1 is definitely unnatched. Clem being tamed for the cruelity of the World was so nice to see. I really hated Larry tho. And for me Ben was the most stupid. All in all te dynamcs in Character's Personality are hands off the best. Season 2 was also very great but Luke died in the Lake was so stupid. I was very happy to see Kenny but vey sad that Christa is missing. The charcters are also good. I don't like Nick and Sarah. The storyline slaps. Specially that Rebecca is bringing a baby to the Apocalypse World and Kenny vs. Jane. I'd always choose Kenny over Jane. His scene was so emotional at the end at Wellington. Season 3 was meh. Didn't like the graphics and the storyline is not it. I also hated the fact that it was very irrelevant to Season 4 but yeah, S3 is not it. Characters are poorly written and there's no interesting aside from Javi. It was the weakest Season. Loved Jesus tho. Season 4 was a Strong season where thy showed the growth of Clem both as a teen and as parent to AJ. Bringing back Lilly was a good choice and the story is kinda Generic but the choices are very good. AJ's growth is nice to see. I pick Louis as a love interest for Clem while Violet as a good friend. S1 > S4 > S2 > S3
this has to be my favourite story game/series of all time. finally picked up the courage to finish it after playing season 1 years back and my god i have never been this emotionally attached to a video game character in my life

i dont think i’ve ever ugly wailed over characters like i did over characters in this series lmfao, the writing was absolutely phenomenal and knew just how to tug at your heart strings
I finished the series not to long ago. I normally don't feel bad when I play complete a game but this game touched my heart. I remember when I was a wee little lad and there was only one season.
I’m just gonna go with christa dying by gunshot after Clem distracts them and tells christa to run you here a gunshot and I think that was christa’s brains going everywhere
The worst part about seasoning 2 is how all of the characters expect Clem to do literally everything. Its so weird and it makes all the other characters feel useless.

Damn....
the main reason the role got to him so deep is because the whole voice cast worked together in the same room and actually bonded so the two characters were actually talking

Exactly!! My step mom always tells me storys of thing I said/did when I was 6 (I'm 17 now 18 in june) and I look at like my baby cousin who is 6 now and freak out my child hood was pretty bad at that time and I was constantly in survival mode and they say that the situations I was is had me speaking pretty ahead of my time
i personally think AJ is way more realistically written than clem, like clem never did anything bad in S1 and i just dont find that very realistic

cause they dont give af how old she is. kids are threats too. everyones desensitized, except Alvin.

@@dulguunshallot1018 wtf

Yap. A heavily pregnant woman who is not only high on hormones but also suffers from anxiety maybe even depression about the fact that she is to bring a child into that fucked up world would easily and understandably have severe mood swings and be extremely opposed to any unknown outside factors like Clem.

Answering the last question about Clem's ethnicity - she's mixed. Her dad's African-American, and her mom is at least partially East Asian. Really goes to show how Telltale doesnt remember their own characters personailty. Same way they were going to make Kenny the season 2 villain. Look up season 2 episode 5 better to sleep. Chilling
@@ranvirmalhi4850 yeah trying to make kenny the villain was... a choice. like the original plans for s2 he was supposed to be the full season big bad. that wouldn't have worked out well, because we know half of the player base will just go along with kenny even if he is a tyrant. lmao.

@@tifi4220 plus even if you help she ends up dying no matter what
What I like "or hate" about Sarah is that she is the complete opposite of Clem.
While Clem had Lee as a father figure, to show her how to survive in this world, even if it meant some of her childlike innocence had to be taken away as a consequence, Sarah is an example of what happens if you continue to shelter your children even in the apocalypse.
Exactly. I understand why so many people hated her but she filled her role as a foil for Clementine perfectly.
@@MaryJane-tp3qd I absolutely agree with that point!
It’s sad how we never found out what happened to Christa. I feel like if telltale wouldn’t have gone out of business then I think they would’ve made a dlc explaining what happened to Christa
It's implied that she was killed off screen.
I heard the opposite 😆 if you don’t see the character die on screen then they are alive off screen but who knows!
it’s sad but i think it’s very realistic, you may never know what happens to some people in an apocalypse
I think a Christa dlc would’ve been super cool, would’ve rather had it than the Michonne one
I'm still pissed about Luke's death, he was actually a good character
Dude, everything that went wrong during that season was Luke's fault. He opposed Bill Carver but what was his backup plan? He didn't even try to size power for himself to make a better settlement. He created a power vacuum, and I desperately hate him for it 😒 😤 🥺
esp because apparently it was meant to be kenny v luke not jane v kenny bc they killed him off early bc ppl were shipping luke n clemmy
pretty sure they changed plan or someone stopped them about luke vs jane so they had to go with jane
I believe that Luke's drowning death was supposed to show us that even in the apocalypse there are still lots of ways to die naturally if you're not careful.
@@nbHawkeye not everyone does heroically, Halo Reach demonstrates this perfectly.
Who confirmed that there was Luke vs Kenny originally?
@@volodymyr_bots I can’t remember? But it was either because people suspected some parts of the game was rushed, a voice actor remembered doing more lines, someone found concept art, someone hacked into the game and found more dialogue, it was somewhere among those lines but I do remember it being pretty concrete and like a known fact among the fanbase.
TBH Season 2 was my favourite, the only problem I had with it was that we didn't get to see Kenny murder Arvo after he shot Clem.

@Willmah fr
@willham1427wym with her pretending and the end?
@@vianjelos he wore a lot of layers of clothes so he could’ve been really skinny underneath

And I think it did change her life because you hear many people mention and can even talk about it in season 3 and 4.
Agreed!
And also...that callback to it in Season 4 with Abel and AJ. That was fucking lit.
i made clem a survivor above all, she will live if other have to die to ensure it ill make it so, the only time that changed was meeting kenny again in season two, i bent heaven and hell over my knees to make sure he and i made it, then we had to let him go at the end....
That scene was so fucking brutal i love it

bro aint gonna lie, javier was literally one of my favourite characters in the entire series, up there with kenny, lee and the rest. He just came with too much extra baggage no one cared about, but by himself, and especially with clem he was great
Javier doesnt need all the hate maan
Javi is great it's just that at the time (hell even today) people were here for Clem, not some new guy we never knew before, it's a bit of a jarring change when you as deep as the third season
I really think more Clem sections, better consequences for your choice at the end of S2 and better characters aside from Javi could have made it one of the greatests, instead it's kinda there I guess, it's okay
All my homies love javi
Bro 💀 good joke
True some kids learn faster then others some are slow
She was bleeding before it, that probably helped.
well she was bleeding really bad so the spreading of the infection might be slowed down.
It was confirmed that only 17 minutes passed between Clementine getting bit and her leg was also bleeding meaning the infection had no circulation. The fever and pale skin was caused by too much blood loss.
Maybe, since she displayed most of the same symptoms as lee
I’m so happy that Season 4 was actually good and a great ending to the series. Amen.🙏
minerva singing is and will always be one of my favorite moments in any video game. it was so creepy and SOOOO well executed

When I first loaded up season 2 and heard it my first thoughts were "I miss Lee."
Yea...
And that sucks because I enjoy the story to a degree, and it's interesting seeing Clementine travel on her own
But the big problem is how disconnected things felt from the frist one in terms of choices
I mean Omid and Christa pretty much die a minute or so in...
i agree. none of the choices really mattered, it all came down to who you chose to kill/ stay with in the last episode. however it’s also very important, bringing aj into the story and showing how clem has grown to love and care for him so much
Looking back I think season 2 was the worst of the bunch.

Five year olds can actually be really articulate, and I can see AJ developing verbally a little faster than what is considered "normal" given he's all Clem has to talk to which gives him a lot of examples.

Christa: "you're not her dad."
Lee: "that obvious, huh?"

as 'reaslistic' as people may want to call it, i really hate post apocalyptic characters that are unconcerned with anything but surviving the day.
The problem with season 3 - it doesnt continue any of the 8377 endings that season 2 got.
They literally killed off everyone except Clem and AJ
Javi was THE BEST thing about Season 3 (other than Clem). Everyone else was just either annoying or an asshole (Clem was great).
If season 3 was just like the beginning in the town where it was just Javi and Clem and the whole season was Javi and Clem trying to get their families back it would have been so much better.
omfg yes, clem literally looks like a different race every season
S1 - White
S2 - Asian
S3 - Black
S4 - Mixed
She was mixed in season 1, but i do understand what you mean.
She didn’t really look white in s1
@@HIPHOPHEAD1031 i think she does, what do you think she looks like?
I’d say S1 and S4 are mixed. S3 is S3 messed up character designs and Clem wasn’t fully spared. S2 I dunno.
S4 definitely nailed her design though… the definitive Clem that all future designs should be based from. Maybe just make her look a little older in any hypothetical post S4 thing with Clem
Its all of the above lol i always thought of her as mixed black n white ever since sewson 1

Facts
I only started watching that guy quite recently he’s hilarious 😂
“Like shit, right lee? 😃” LMAO SHE SOUNDED SO INNOCENT AW
season 1 was genuinely so funny with moments like these
How is Christa not showing up again a "plothole?" I feel like people use "plothole" to mean anything.
I think christa body was found on s2ep1 near the end when we accompany nick to scout the river?
@@Nulzzie nope
@@brandonsargent6610 That's not a plot hole. A plot hole is a contradiction, a hole in the plot. Not an unresolved plot point.
