"Wanted Dead or Alive" had Rutger Hauer as a P7 toting GOOD guy. The only movie I remember being advertised in gun magazines. I carried a P7M8 for over a decade and found out quick why it has a heat shield and plastic trigger.
I believe it was in the early 80’s as a kid when I went to hang with my dad at the local gun shop that I seen my first HK and it was a P7 in the display case. I was just fascinated by it, just so different from everything else around back then and now even. And yes, I still do love HK. ❤
The original HK P7M10 in .40 S&W was designed by Paul Carroll and it had the standard P7M13 slide. When the prototype was sent to Germany the engineers there decided the slide velocity was to fast so to slow it down they created the heavier slide that became the production version.
Just bought a P7M13 new-in-box off-roster in California last month. 1993 gun that has been sitting in a safe in San Francisco for 31 years. I am sure the State of California sees me as a villain, so I need a villain gun! I'll be replacing the Walther PPS as my CCW carry after the qualification shoot tomorrow!
Tonight on 1911 Syndicate: James Williamson boosts the viewer count again, Jake leaves more Chic-Fila grease stains in the Grey Room, and the P7 starred in many more successful movies than Rachel Zegler, and is the superior thespian.
My most prized gun in my HK collection is my mint 1983 ID date code P7, absolutely love it. Friggen awesome video guys! Im sure James takes lunch breaks in the Gray Room everyday now, jealous!!!
I grew up in NJ and fell in love with the P7M13 carried by the NJSP. The saddest part of the P7M13's history is the NJSP destroyed all or at least almost every P7M13 when they transitioned over to the Sig P229, which was very short lived.
In the 1980s and 1990s, it was common for German and Austrian-made guns in general to be used by Hollywood bad guys. For what it’s worth: Tommy Lee Jones also used a P7 in the movie “Black Moon Rising” (1986), where he played the main protagonist of the film (who is an anti-hero, but not a villain).
Another fun fact re the Die Hard reference. Bruce Willis was using the same prop gun in Die Hard that Mel Gibson used in Lethal Weapon (actual same serial number).
I had a P7M8, because it was the only affordable H&K. Hated it, traded for Sig P228. Kind of wish I still had it now (as a collector piece). Interesting episode!
@14:00 "It needs to be brought into action faster..." Sounds like a quote from "Shooting to Live: Fairbairn & Sykes" @54:22 for addressing gun affectionados, when you say P7 it is like saying DB5 to a Bond fan, or sports car fan -- that is all that need be said. You just don't have to explain.
Another excellent and interesting episode. I remember reading an interview years ago with an actor (don't recall who) who said he loved playing bad guys as they had the cool "stuff" (cars, good looking women, guns, etc) versus playing a good guy. Also the good guy was always constrained on what he could do, i.e. good guy can't shoot someone in the back or punch a woman etc whereas the bad guys had no constraints. Basically he stated at the end of the interview that bad guys were much more fun to play. Jake basically insinuated pretty much the same thing at the end with stating that only the super villans got the cool gun.
Great video, something interesting that doesn't ever come: The P7 series pistol will fire when the cocker is held and trigger is pulled, OR: if the trigger is held and then squeezed. Either result is LOUD....
Die Hard was filmed in 1988 and the factory nickel coating wasn't released 'till 1992. The P7M13 in Die Hard was aftermarket chrome plated by the props dept so it stood out more on camera.
@@BunyipDude Oh no, forgive me. Whomever supplies the guns was asked to have it coated in chrome to stand out, 4 years before the nickel finish was ever offered.
Time for the P7 and its variants to return. Maybe there are lessons learned in all the decades for further refinements? Put the gas piston on top like the alien to lower the bore further and move the piston further from the firing hand? Materials changes for better heat shielding and radiance and possibly lighter weight? Light rail & optics mount or have a light and optic built into the design? A threaded or 1/4 turn quick attach capable barrel for comp/suppressor mounting? More capacity in .30 super carry? Nickel, hard chrome or stainless finish so we can all Hans Gruber. The release video can have an homage to Die Hard with 1911 syndicate trying to break into the Grey Room vault. Jake as Hans. Chris as Karl. and James as Mr. Takagi
Funny now that smash & grab Beverly Hills Cop 2 robbery isn't a crime in California. Great work highlighting the P7 for the younger generations. Honorable mention to The Dead Zone (1983) with bodyguard Sonny wielding a PSP
Back in the 80's I bought an hk93 and hk91 A 2. I got to fire a p7 m8 and loved it..very great accuracy. It got very hot after 6 magazines. I could not find one. But bought hk usp's in 9, 40, 45 and a mark 23. I would kill to find a usp compact on 357 sig.. I bought a usp 45 compact a couple weeks ago. My sig other wants a usp 9 or 40 compact.. i will buy her one for carry and a house gun..❤❤
In all actuality, SILVER PICTURES (Joel Silver) help to put HK on the commercial map with the Die Hard and Lethal Weapon movie franchises. That was a cool choice.
"Armageddon" use of HKP7, maybe NASA wasn't absolutely sure that recoil or delayed blowback or delayed roller blowback systems would or would not be effected by the vacuum of space, zero gravity or the reduced gravity or magnetic signature of the meteorite, went with the enhanced reliability of a gas operated handgun. The HKP7 being squeeze cocker being exceptionally safer to handle with the bulky gloves of the pressure space suits?
All the classic action movies also have blonde villains, whether they’re German, Austrian, South African, or Russian. They really stuck with the old WW2 bad guy stereotype until the 2000s.
Tonight on 1911 Syndicate the P7 fights for views vs the Tyson / Paul fight while bringing the 80’s theme back on Iron Mike and the P7 completes the HK - TKO: CC9, G11, P7!!
Did not realize the P-7 has the same flutes in barrels like the MP-5…. So does this require another special cleaning brush… I am $60 into cleaning brushes on the MP-5 😜
being a German, i will answer your question: why are only the villains use German guns (and cars) -> you have to deal in drugs to be able to afford the really good stuff :P
Dang guys you couldn’t give me another two weeks to procure one!?! lol now the prices will jump 10% from the fan boy’s coming off your heaviest watched HK video.

James Williamson is a great presenter. Thank you for making this video.
Can you really have a P7 video without James? I think not.
Can't do any H&K video without James
It’s mandatory 😂😂
This is true
It’s not even possible

James Williamson jumped out the womb with a P7

The “props department” doesn’t provide or do work on the guns; they rent them from prop houses that have armory departments.

My first exposure to the P7 in media was 1998's Resident Evil 2, as the default weapon for protagonist Leon S. Kennedy.

It's villain gun status even crosses the ocean, in the anime Gungrave, the main villain exclusively uses the p7 throughout the series.

Surprised me the Brit MI5 guy in The Devil's Own used one.
Any good idea where a p7 would be available??
Ita still a great villain gun. Would Fat was still carrying it in the Hawaii Five 0 remake
But more importantly, why is the P7 trying to kill the guy in the bay to your right with hyper velocity shell casings?
Because it's an H&K. Automatic covering fire to your right flank is a feature in many of their guns😂
Kevin Costner used p7s in the bodyguard

Christopher Walken uses one in the Sicilian scene in True Romance
