11 years ago I was a die hard federer fan and so disappointed that federer lost the match. The match ended at 4:30 am at our local time. I didn't sleep that night. All these years later I feel like Djokovic deserved to win that match and happy for him. I think I've grown up...

Those three consecutive forehand winners from Djokovic at 4-5, 15-40 down in the fifth represented one of the moments that transformed him into a legend. This wasn’t a “40-15” moment. This was Djokovic clutching out a brilliant hold and then Federer’s level dropping afterwards. If Fed choked here, it was at 5-5 or 5-6. Not at 5-4.

This match is the turning point of Novak's career. At that point, Roger had 16 GS's already and had beaten Novak 3 times consecutively in the final stages of US Open (07-09). Roger was a huge hurdle before Novak. Had Novak lost this close match, he would have had a mental problem against Roger. The reality is that since this match, against Roger, Novak is 9:2 in grand slam matches (4:0 in the finals). After this one, Roger was never a big hurdle for Novak anymore (not to play down Roger, his real rivalry was Rafa); and for Novak, the real rivalry after this match has been Rafa (up to today, 2022).

In this match, Federer was the big monster to beat and Djokovic was seen as the young man to do so, and he did it. Next year in 2011, Djokovic was the better player, and Federer was there to dethrone him, but couldn't. Losing in both matches having 2 match points each. And if it was not enough, 8 years later it happens the same in Wimbledon. I am a Federer fan but I have to say, Nole is Better when it comes to H"H between this two guys.

What are you talking about? As I know, US Open SF generally starts at Friday night. Also, If SF takes place on Saturday, it is narrow thinking that the schedule takes disadvantage "only to Novak". ROGER, RAFA, THIEM, and so many other tennis players are applied to same schedule. So my conclusion is that a player who plays best in USO hard court can win more titles than others. Before 2009 the best player is Federer undoubtedly, and since 2010 the two best players are Rafa and Novak.

this match marked the end of fed's slams dominion victories against the goat no 3. after this match we entered an era which lasted until 2014 in which more or less we had a draw between those two players...other matches won by fed....others by novak......and we had very hard fought matches.......especially that 2011 us open semis was another fed's suicide as he squandered two M.P on his serve against nole..........anyhow starting wimbledon 2014 final nole's slam dominance against fed begun. the 6 years younger champion took advantage of his age difference and finally managed to beat goat no 1 all 6 times they played in slams. Again fed commited suicide at wimbledon final 2019 a match he should have won as he was the better player in all stats holding again two M.P on his serve and a break point at 11-11 in final set.............but nole was better in all three tie-breaks and won a match he did not deserved to win.
Also wimbledon 2014 and us open 2015 finals were two very close hard fought matches which could go to either players but nole prevailed due to his stronger mental status he has the only real advantage besides AGE he has against a superior player fed is.
From his 6 slam victories after 2014 only three were clear victories for nole in which he was clear the better player.
AUSTRALIA 2016 AND 2020 SEMIS.........AND WIMBLEDON 2015 FINAL IN WHICH MATCH FED COLLAPSED AFTER FIRST 2 SETS AND LOST WITH HANDS DOWN THE THIRD AND FOURTH SET.

2010 really marked the beginning of Fed's decline, at least at ths slams. His losses in earlier rounds and his lack of focus in big matches seem to to exemplify that. Maybe he lost motivation after he eclipsed Sampras' record. It's clear he had the shots, but that killer mentality to play aggressive up or down, not let the foot off the gas when he was up, it's sad in a way, to see someone so great miss their chance to take it to the limit, whereas Djokovic clearly made the absolute most of his gifts, and always had a motivation that Federer didn't to outshine Federer and Nadal. Federer was goated and thought he had won the all time battle, and allowed himself to get sloppy and like the hare, was eventually surpassed by the tortoises (in terms of their initial grand slams compared to his--they're both obviously incredible athletes and quick on court).
