The good choice for a Mid range power enough laptop and not only for gaming - thank you for the videos !
My laptop comes in tomorrow! Can’t wait.
Hype
Are you able to test the 4060's Raytracing capabilities when using Quality DLSS? I'm curious to know if it's viable in games like Cyberpunk (and maybe minecraft!).
Great videos, thank you!
I've read that the version with a screen of 240hz does not have advanced Optimus and in the datasheet it does not mention advanced Optimus for that version but does mention it for the ones with screen of 165hz
Nice
Ordered this laptop yesterday! Can't wait to get it. Baldurs gate on 60 fps silent mode looks sooo juicy 😮. Thanks for the video!
Wait until you learn that you can play this game on silent on USB-c power and CHARGE the laptop. Get outta here Lenovo oem charger
Hey there ! Thanks for great videos !
Is it worth to pay 200usd for amd variant ?
The temperatures and battery life differences are significant?
Thanks for your time
Hi, can you check what is the wifi card of this legion slim 7 gen 8 (AMD)? I heard that if it's a mediatek, it's worser than the intel wifi card. Thank you and appreciate your review!
It will be much appreciated if you could do a comparison between the Intel version and this one. This was an amazing video✌️
unfortunately i dont have the intel anymore. but i did a video testing 5 games for intel too. the onyl difference is ratchet and clank (as it wasnt released at the time of testing intel)
@@TechGuyBeaucan you summarize here in the comments if there was any difference in performance?
Also what has been your experience with battery life compared to the intel version?
@@Agtsmirnoff intel will have about 20-30% worse battery life. in games the performance is identical.
i have another laptop with the same specs as the intel model coming. i am going to compare that to the slim 7 amd.
@@TechGuyBeauDo you recommend AMD over Intel? And should I get 3060 or 4060?
@@WEZFYKANI prefer AMD here but really it doesn’t matter much. Definitely get a 4060 over a 3060
Same question i just asked on the other video... Were you running in dGPU mode or Hybrid mode on the GPU? In Hybrid, I can only get the CPU to use 87-89W and in dGPU mode, I can get it to about 104W. In Your Witcher test you got it to spike to 112W once. So curious which GPU mode you were using? Also, have you had any luck in getting the "Custom" mode to work? It seems to ignore any data you put into it (I.E. it does not care what TGP Wattage you put there).
I always do game tested in dGPU mode only
Your system might be getting hot. Which will cause wattage throttling
@@TechGuyBeau thanks. based on your timespy numbers we are getting about the same. My GPU runs pretty cool actually
Hi! Your reviews and comparisons are very useful, thanks for that. I can't choose between slim 7i and slim 7, which of them did you like more? I'm probably going with the 4060, but I still don't know the real difference between intel and amd versions. Price is also pretty much the same
If the prices are the same just get the amd. Better battery life
@@TechGuyBeau Thanks!
Hi Amazing video however, i have a question about the legion slim 7.
why is there some stuttering when gaming ?
Thanks.
No. This is my daily driver.
You need to play with settings in the most demanding game (it’s only a 4060’after all) but otherwise it’s rock solid
Hey brother what is the wattage on that gpu running at?
I want to ask that if I turn on performance mode but just do some lightweights or leave it idle. Will the fans always run max or only go high when doing heavy. Tks
It will only boost when needed. But considering how performant it is on balanced just leave it on that mode is my suggestion
Hey, thanks for the review. I need advice: I'm torn between getting this exact model (specs and everything) vs the Legion Pro 5 Gen 8 AMD (7745HX + 4070) - which you did review a couple of months back, which one should I go for? and yes, subscribed!
This one easily. No contest
@@TechGuyBeau Even though the difference between Legion Pro 5 (7745HX - RTX 4070) and Lenovo Legion 7 Slim (7840HS + RTX 4060) is of just 60 CAD (the former costing more by 60 CAD)? And thank you for your prompt response!
@@duhvakiin3467 the 7840 HS is just an all-around better processor. It is much more efficient, runs cooler, sips battery, and will still output amazing performance for what you get. If it’s the choice between those two processors definitely go with the Phoenix range 7840
great video as always! compared to the intel variant, is there any significant difference in terms of pure gaming performance?
zero difference. just battery life and thermals. otherwise the laptops are more or less the same. in both cases you will be GPU bound with a 4060/70 not cpu bound, especially at 1600p
@@TechGuyBeaudo you have a rough idea of battery life. I’m in IT and will need some battery life. I just can’t find any info with real world results. And what are they compared to the intel variant
@@tylerwilson6479 about 20-25% or so based on testing.
Can you turn off cpu turbo boost and play in balanced mode? Will it have great temps and low fan noise with little to no performance difference with these 40 series gpus?
I think it should
Idk I just had a brainstorming question so thought of asking it.
I show various settings here on balanced and silent such. You can easily lower wattages with little impact on performance
Hi, do you think that legion 5 slim identical configuration ( cpu gpu ram ) will behave the same ?
Really good indepth video, thank you for testing!
technically the slim 5 performs a tiny bit BETTER, as it has a larger chasis and thus slightly better cooling :)
@@TechGuyBeau that is REALLY good to know. Thank you for the reply!
Thank you for the reviews, especially this model particularly. Most likely going to order one in a couple of days.
I am still torn between this one for 1450€(r7, 4060, 32GB, 3.2k display) or the Legion Slim 5 (r7, 4070, 32GB, QHD) for 1590€. Will most likely go with this one. Any thoughts?
The slim 5 isn’t as premium but still nice. It’s quite a bit thicker. Since the price is so similar, the slim 7 is the winner in my books. Heck, I sold my slim 5 and bought the slim 7, even though the 7 was quite a bit more expensive
It’s very premium
@TechGuyBeau Going for the Slim 7 AMD without any doubts. A probable 10% increase in performance on the 4070 isn't going to matter as much as the feeling of using the more premium laptop. The thermals are probably good, but just to be sure, are the thermals are better in the Slim 7 or the Slim 5?
@@frankreginald3195 the thermals on the 5 are a bit better on performance but it’s quite noisy. On balanced they are about the same
@@TechGuyBeauThanks for the suggestions and reviews. Ordered the slim 7 and can't wait to use get it! Really appreciate your responses :)
@TechGuyBeau And would you go for the 3.2K or the WQXGA screen option on the Slim 7? (they are around the same price).
Which screen do you have on this? probably 1600p? not 3.2k right? what battery life did you get is amd really better with this gen? compared to intel?
This is the 1600p screen. Amd has better battery than Intel yes.
I’ve tested the 3.2k model which is better for creation, 1600p for gaming.
See my thinkpad 16p review if you want to see both screens side by side
@@TechGuyBeau i just got the 3.2k screen version. I don't game that much. But i need the real estate especially for 16" screen & that dcip3. Hope the brightness is higher than claimed 430nits. Ok checking. 😊
Edit -
Wow the difference between contrast, black levels & sheer colors is so visibly different even seeing the video on my s23u. Wow thank god its great upgrade for literally $20😂
why does mine have blue screen issues when it's running games sometimes? And it gets really hot
What software is used to see the gpu temps and fps in game?
Msi after burner + riva
RTX 4070 should be 15% faster since more cuda cores and higher clock speed, unless you hit VRAM limit then becomes 5-7%. I'm still debating if I should go for intel/4070 or amd/4060 since I need it for Unreal Engine 5. I'm a web developer and game dev is just a hobby. I do like to have some room for battery but not sure RTX 4060 is enough for UE5. Coming from a MacBook I just didn't carry my charger with me but maybe I should prioritise performance since it's a machine to make money. @TechGuyBeau any thoughts on that ?
I'm in a similar situation. Are they gonna release a 7 slim AMD with a 4070? I'd get that instantly.
In the same situation as you guys, am waiting for 4070 mad option, if not possible, then Im going to go for amd 4060
Why not go for legion 5 slim amd rtx 4070
@@Notchello Worse screen, battery, and build quality.
Is the AMD variant significantly greater in terms of battery life the intel version i have currently isn't the best overall.
Yes
About how many hours of gameplay on the battery ?
Why your gpu running 87c with performance mode ? My legion 5 rtx 3070 at 130w can barely touch the 84c with heavy game
The legion 5 has a considerably thicker chassis and much larger Cooling. This slim 7 is an ultrabook thickness.
But the real fun part is how cool it runs on balanced mode, with only a tiny hit to performance. That is where 4000 series shines, we really don’t ever need to throw out 130 watts anymore. 75 watts and you are going to nearly match the highest watts
What’s the average temp you getting in your cpu?
Silent 65, balanced 75, performance 85
Thanks for the info and great video@@TechGuyBeau
Thank you a lot! To play there is differenze between 16 or 32gb? Thank you
Not a huge deal, but some games are starting to use a lot of ram
i dont see it in your storefront?
It’s Bette too buy Lenovo legion directly from Lenovo. I’m not affiliated with them.
But then your get customer support, return policy, and honestly good pricing.
Definitely just go through Lenovo, I’d rather you get something you’re happy with then earn a few bucks
between the intel and amd varient of the same laptop, which one would prefer and why?
Amd because the cpu is better. The battery life and efficiency of the 7840hs is above what Intel offers right now
Thank you, your videos are really helpful and keep up the good work.
Hi, bro, it’s me again. I wanna buy slim 7 2023 but in china don’t have a rgb keyboard (((( I was in shoke ( I wanna ask you : what will be better for same price: legion 7 2021 R5800 with RTX 3080 or Legion 7 slim with R7 7840 rtx 4060? Same price.
The 2023 slim 7 is a better overall laptop. The 3080 will perform better than a 4060, but the cpu and other parts are better on the 2023 model
@@TechGuyBeau ааааааааа, so will better 2021? And can in 2023 make a new laptop? Or this stop do it in 2021? The seller said its new from 6 june 2023 and send me SN
@@vovaklim8760 if it were me I’d buy the 2023 model. The better build quality and better cpu matters a lot to me
@@TechGuyBeau 65% I thinking like you) thank you)
@@TechGuyBeau I thinking now just cos in china don’t have legion slim 7 with RGB keyboard, legion 7 2021 with RGB. And I so like rgb. Cos I thought before I’ll buy slim 7 with rgb, when I came to different shop, they says : no RGB just white . It’s so bad(((
Are the fans audible in silent mode?
Not really no
Please do fps games test like warzone, valorant, counter strike etc
Sure
@@TechGuyBeau on 1440p ...and please mention the mode as well..may be you are playing on silent and we think its on performance
@@johndavid65 I show it in the screen. On the right
@@TechGuyBeauwaiting for the gaming test video
Can u tell us a usb c charger for this laptop on amazon, bc im in italy and i cant buy the official usb c carger of lenovo
You need to make sure it supports 100w Pd per port. Not total. The issue is people buy ones with multiple ports and the current is split
@@TechGuyBeau if you use a lower power usb charger did it give less power, for example only 50w, or it will not work at all? I want to use usb for emergency charge when i travel or while in my car
@@EnricoPretto the lowest I’ve got to work was a 65 watt Samsung charger. That was while powered on. You might be able to use lower but I can’t verify that
❤❤❤
How noisy is it for office tasks in balanced mode?
It won’t get noisy even in performance for basic tasks. It only gets noisy if you push it in performance mode
@@TechGuyBeau can the fans be heard while it idles? Thanks!
@@pablo17349 no it’s very quiet
can you do it on the lenovo legion pro 5i rtx 4070?
Prey I don’t own that model. Maybe if Lenovo sends me one
i wish i could see the cpu temps and clocks
Not possible in afterburner, but you can check in hwinfo (won’t show up in overlay)
@@TechGuyBeau interesting
What's your opinion: Price/performance, which model is better: 2022 or 2023 (both amd version)?
This year is much better
Coil Whine
Non
Great video! Have you tested a 4070? If so do you think is worth, or 4060 is enogh for a normal user? Thank you in advance!
I’ve tested the 4070 in a few video. Unless the cost of the upgrade is low (like $100-150), it’s really not worth it. The 4060 is the king of this generation
@@TechGuyBeau Thank you for your answer! I have a deal with Legion Pro 7 I9 RTX4070 at the same price of the Slim 7 AMD RTX 4060, is worth the Pro 7?
What's the weight of the laptop?
The in my reviews video. It’s about 4.5 lb
Not going to disagree that the performance is very good all things considered but the “quality” setting for DLSS is not the “lightest” DLSS, it’s a 33% percent reduction in native rendering resolution. Makes you sound like an NVIDIA fan. DLSS is very accurate and looks the best but it doesn’t justify weak hardware as a successor to previous cards.
If anything I’m an nvidia hater 🙃. You’ll find the at trend pretty quickly on my channel
