Hey Iam Jerome iam a close partner with Kinefinity thank you for your review, here are a few add ons: - The rs out for power is a 3 pin fisher port . Standardised by arri. Will both serve as power out or as rec stop trigger (you can buy cables from a lot of brands including tilta nucleus) - About max fps. It works simple. You can display two luts simultaneously for instance log on the kinemon/ kine evf, and a rec709 on the sdi - Ext port will be for 5g dongle . For almost latency free video pass through. We know its important so it's fixed ASAP:) - With the kinemon 5u at full brightness the camera consumes 39 Watts. - The pl mount is active, thus has contacts it will support cooke protocol so all metadata is passed through - You can set the zebras to match clipping point in log instead of alligned the lut. But this will be def improved -About ntfs formatting. All kinefinity cameras allow for ntfs . But with a simple program for 19 dollars called "paragon hfs for Windows" you can read and write hfs mac drives on Windows without any cons . - You will be able for redundancy to record to both cards . Will be enabled in q3 including pre roll recording of up to 10 seconds. Also the red kimemag is much bigger and has raid 5.0 and is very safe. We are a bit affiliated with Kinefinity, so this can be taken as kind of official statement. And thanx for the review!
Ok this is great engineering future speak, but why build and soft launch (this is such a meme'able thing), a 10k USD camera brain built at what I initially estimated was 80% complete (now I think I'll downgrade that to 70% - it just has a better ring at the moment). Has the concept of iterative development after launch become the new norm (the 70% is 'good enough to go' rule) ? I hope that's not the current dev thrust for Kinefinity's sake. They have some surf to cover and it will be some time, just like all camera manufacturer's - to get their products in line with value. I've tested a couple of ok boxes from them. BUT despite that we could get a quite nice image in post, the in-camera picture profiles even with the rec 709 conversion were simply too poor for a DP to maintain their sanity. The overuse of 'workaround' shouldn't be a deflection from an obviously deficient device.. Trust for a DP starts at the in-camera source image, not in post. Side rant: I'm curious what in the actual stool slosh you mean by 'partner' of but 'a bit affiliated' with Kinefinity? Sorry, that one is throwing me at the wrong moment.... Are you a 3rd party contracted engineer? If so, is that what this company actually does with its R&D and pre-market process? Do they conduct business in such a way that third party spokespeople can speak quite freely on behalf of development efforts of a company to which you may/may not be directly employed or legally authorized to do so? I mean showcasing their stuff, ok, that's what brand ambassadors do. I get that. But making remarks that viewers should take your word as THEIR truth given your rather contradictory bauble on your relationship with them straddles IMNSHO a rather dangerous line (potentially jeopardizing both your and the manufacturer's credibilities).
@@pmiddlet72 we are an official dealer, and ambassador for kinefinity, and our answers here are copy paste from official statements from Kinefinity, hope this helps. 1 bit of advice.. you come across a bit agressive.. never a good way to open up a conversation like this. enjoy!
That does - thank you! And yes agreed, I came in hot. Yet had you opened your commentary as you just did, with you as the dealer/ambassador and quoting from a linkable Kinefinity source - that would've been more reasonable and seem far less like an overblown resume. But that was not my 1st, 2nd, or 3rd read from your statement. There are big (and legal) differences between 'dealer' and 'brand ambassador' for a company, and an FTE spokesperson for that company (i.e. product owner, engineer, you get the picture). It's a legal hot skillet. So here's me toning things down a bit. Please do give more care when crafting such statements. That's all I mean.
@@pmiddlet72 maybe xanax? klonopin's decent actually, but you seem awfully right-wing here so might be turned off it by your boy Jordy's negative experience. tbf I believe he was prone to random fits of crying before that, but now it's a daily occurrence. anyway... something! for sure something.
I truly value Gerald's unwavering honesty when it comes to reviewing products. It's the primary reason why I find myself consistently returning to his channel whenever I need an unbiased and genuine review.
I reeeeally appreciate your constant efforts to avoid conflict of interest. The RUclipsr media ecosystem seems to be like 90% fanboying, and ultimately you're one of the only people whose take on things I really feel is measured and grounded.
“I’m not a filmmaker; I don’t make documentaries or movies - I make RUclips videos.” I could virtually hear the majority of RUclipsrs’ egos imploding with that statement, but it is refreshing and more than welcome to have someone calling things by their names - even more so when it comes from someone who has been around the RUclips block a few times. Much respect, Gerald!
Always appreciate the unbiased and honest review. Even the opinion portion. Honestly, that’s 1/2 of what I come here for. Anyone can look at the spec sheet but hearing someone go through the nitty-gritty of the camera and talk about its faults is really helpful in deciding if something is worthwhile to invest in.
Not that you're asking for mine... But I'd say go for this one... It's a work in progress but it is a cinema camera, and you know the value of that better than any other. GH6, no matter how good, is still... well, you know... not really a dedicated film/video camera. Also: As far as DSLR/Mirrorless hybrid bodies go... Sony already has better, more versatile offerings...also, if we're not forgetting, there is the R5C from canon... So, you know, many many choices.
The media storage system with two NVMe SSDs is fantastic!! I wish every manufacturer would just copy this setup (and enable redundant recording capabilities) - this should be the future!
this is WHY I dig your camera videos!!! a camera company could literally throw free merch your way, and it doesn't phase you one bit 💪🤩🤙👏👏👏 absolute RUclips creator goals!!!!
I like the review, but there are some misleading conclusions, to be honest. FX9 has 11.5 DR (SNR = 2), and this camera has a similar price point. Sony FX6 has 11.4 (SNR = 2). A7SIII with RAW has 11.6 stops at SNR = 2 Ursa 12K has 11.8 (SNR = 2) Of course, you have cameras with better DR like c300III, but this one is an s35 16:9 sensor that can't even use proper Anamorphic lenses and has a pretty bad rolling shutter and significant form factor. The Mavo can scale 6K image to 4K gives you more DR, so it should be around the same territory as FX9, which also downsamples the image from the 6K sensor. Don't get me wrong, It definitely could be better, but it's still decent. According to CineD, Panasonic S1H has 12.7 (SNR = 2), and it uses the same sensor as Mavo EDGE 6K! So the objective judging of the dynamic range is a confusing thing. The colors from this camera are very pleasing and look very cinematic compared to A7SIII, but you can't use their provided LUT, so it's a bummer for sure. I agree that the price point is too high, but it's starting to have a lot more sense if you consider how much money you'll spare for recording media and ND filters. Let's compare the cost of media. One 512GB CFast card for RED Komodo has the same price as 6TB of NVMe storage which is insane! The licenses for ProRes and other engineering solutions are much higher for a small company like Kinefinty so it will have a higher price. If someone can't afford it, that's not the camera for him, but considering that you can get Mavo with the price of renting Alexa for one movie, it's not a bad deal. This camera is more than enough for a small feature film to get an excellent image. I'm the owner of Sony A1 and Mavo EDGE 8K, and I can't see the DR difference in real life, but I could notice that Mavo has so much more film feel than Sony. Both of them are fantastic pieces of gear. Still, I love the built-in ND with precise 0,03 increments and ProRes files that work like a charm even at 8K. This camera gives you excellent Open-gate, 4K Oversample modes. All this is packed in a small modular body with all professional connectors and NVMe media that are just perfect for more professional work. My A1 is better only for RUclips videos, but even though these h265 8K files drive me crazy. I'm writing all this from an Inde filmmaker perspective, different RUclipsrs.
I personally think that the mavo 6k is great, its basically has similar gamut and gamma as an arri alexa minus the dynamic range and raw (which most people dont need). Any decent videographer can create good images with this camera, and even something more budget like a gh5.
Hey Gerald was quickly checking your concern about colors. The mavo edge has a wide gamut comparable to rec2020 . This will be standardised later this year. When you want to demonstrate the accuracy of colors on this camera you have to use a color space transform inside resolve. Put it on the 2nd node with rec2020 as colour space input and gamma log c. For out put gamma either choose log c if you prefer staying log or rec709. For colourspace choose rec709. You will see a dramatic chance right away. ✅️
Great review! I think their first camera was actually a pretty cool concept, so think it was basically the GH5 sensor inside their box camera design and it was fairly affordable, a good alternative to blackmagic. Now at this price point it’s hard to see why you wouldn’t just go with one of the others, either full frame or super35.
I like your value based perspective at the end. Way to go... Kinfinity used to have their own raw, and were the only cinema camera with raw and full frame you could get with E mount. That market has come and gone so I think they are trying to find their place again. Companies like this are very important to the market and drive innovation so i hope they find that sweet spot and keep chasing the next big thing.
I don't want the camera, and I'm sure there are loads of people that would be far more necessitated to it than I anyway, but what you are doing with this giveaway is quite gallant, gerald. You earned my trust a long time ago with your reviews, but now you have my respect under your repertoire. Sincere regards, a random gumdrop on the internet
as usual Great Review. We only rent because we do one Documentary a year. I'm the Producer but my Director and I have just gone with Red for so many reasons. My Director has a FX6 and we take it but don't use it much. I have an A1 (and now an A74) which we use for pictures and some video as well. In all these cases audio is recorded on a Sound Devices 888. We watch yours and other reviews all the time just to keep up. I have yet to see anything to change my mind.
This is such an interesting camera. On the one hand, it seems like it's a unique alternative to some of the big brands, offers some unique features, and seems overall like a decent device. But on the other hand, it seems like people are finding it hard to get truly excited for this camera. I'm not sure if it's because its such a niche device from a lessor known brand or if Cinema and mirrorless cameras are just getting so good these days where this device will just fall through the cracks. Especially when we're talking about a $10,000 base when there's some amazing options sub that amount.
Honestly if this costs 6-7k I think I would buy it. Being a black magic user, I’m kinda used to buying things that aren’t exactly popular name brands, I wanna just be sold on image and cinema camera functionality.
@@CamiloMaster10 Depends what you are looking for in a camera. I mean it's a great body but in the end, it always comes up to the image results with the sensor. & i'm looking at cinema cameras. I need that Arri or even Red sensor if im going to spend at that price range.
Nicely done, Gerald. I also commend you on your disclosure. Here's an idea for you: donate it to a local film school/non-profit that can put it to great use. And, hey, if there's not one in your area, I'm on the board of a great one in Minneapolis and our kids would love to learn on a real cinema-style camera.
Seems like a decent camera, but I kind of feel like it’s a Z Cam e2-f6 with sticker shock-am I overlooking something that warrants a premium over that capable mini-cine?
I always enjoy your pragmatic approach to things like this. I recently purchased the a7siii and I think from a tech perspective it's really easy to get caught up in the latest and greatest features and forget that you might not need those features and can instead go with a less expensive camera and then grow into it until you're ready for the next level. I used my A7ii for 4 years before snagging the a7siii because I feel I can now take advantage of the features it offers.
Funny you mention this. I come from operating larger form factor Arri, RED, Varicam, etc rigs - all requiring a dedicated crew of ACs and grips for tracking, etc. But having practiced and practiced more with these smaller form I too like the a7s3 and fx6. I also really like the images I get from the S1H. Since the Arri Trinity came out, so many out there have come up with ingenious ideas of building similarly purposed rigs. I've learned new ways of combining 'steadi' type stabilizers and gimbals to get shots that I could not have gotten without a far larger crew, scorpion cranes, other frighteningly long jib cranes, etc. These cams, both with the fit with the 'right' glass for what you're trying to achieve within a story look wonderful. And they have so many features now - but like any camera, ones that I both love and am baffled by. Do I necessarily get the image repro of an Arri in 2k/4k? Sometimes, sometimes not. Do I need to use Arri as the standard? Well, that's a subjective napkin writing discussion over scotch and bourbon. I think every camera and lens possesses both some element of magic, coupled with another measure of foible, including Arri. This is a very subjective octagon of discussion though. TL:DR But the diminutive size of the dslr shaped cam doesn't require any snobbery from big cam productions or folks outside of the industry who think that bigger and more complicated equals 'professional'. That's just media, subconscious bias-induced psychosis. I WAS one of these zombies at one time, but coming to a better sense of humility on the matter (handed to me rather brutally, but it was what I NEEDED to hear), this kind of thinking doesn't even fall into my line of thinking anymore. One other big plus in the versatility of these rapidly advancing smaller cameras: Because I have a feature length script that's moved to pre-prod now (finally, it's only been 3 yrs in a very humbling scripting process), matching multiple cameras (in this case ones that have similar tech specs) will hopefully leave fewer headaches, both in production costs as well as the shoot-to-edit workflow. (side rant/gripe: The one thing I don't get is how DSC can justify 400 USD for their (yes it's very well designed and useful) video color 6 - 11 band test board to help with 'expression mapping' multiple cameras and lenses to ease the coloring process. Isn't there anything comparable or did they suck up all of the patents on these things? One final plug for some of these smaller body form factors with high quality image potential like the a7siii and fx6 (I also have a z-cam e2-f6 that I'm experimenting with that renders beautifully). Nauticam has some fantastic underwater housings that we will need for this film (i.e. ways to make the underwater shots a bit 'less difficult' - getting the cam neutrally buoyant being a rather important one - 4k120 to help stabilize certain shots even better). Such versatility and feature engineering in these cameras only adds production value for the context of what we're creating and the environments we're creating them in. I personally owe so many of you YT'ers who have shown me different new paths I can take to pull off narrative film work. And it's required pulling away from the 'standards' and stepping a bit more into the chaos of testing things for which I wouldn't have been comfortable with years ago. So deep thanks to you Gerald and so many others I owe much overdue personal gratitude for changing the way I view creative expression in cinema!
I have to agree with his closing statement. Given the BM Ursa and RED Komodo Kameras, which are priced well below this one, I see little to no advantage that warrants the $10 000 Price tag. At least i can't think of a proper use off the top of my head. Any thoughts on which use-case this camera would make sense in?
Loved the review! I was originally pretty excited for the camera (which tends to be blinding) but it's good to see a transparent and thorough video to make me rethink my opinion. Great job, Gerald!
Nice one Gerald. This thing isn't cheap. If I was gonna spend that money, I would try and borrow some more and get a Red Raptor 8k. For me, that camera is the most appealing. It's hard to beat. But I think BM are gonna drop something big this year. I feel it in my bones! 🎥
This camera looks really nice, solid and the internal recording options are amazing. For £10K is bit too expensive,I don't say it doesn't worth it,I say that the name is not very known or the availability of the service providers etc... For the same price I would probably get something else. It reminds me alot of Sony Venice in small package! I'm so amazed that they said keep it,can't believe it,it means they are sure for themselves. I would keep it if I was you,you deserve it after so many great reviews and honest opinions. Let's see what Blackmagic is cooking. I hope they will get the same route,it needs to be metallic build like this or the Komodo. No more plastic and if it's plastic I hope it's the same quality as my Panasonic S1H.
Great review as usual Gerald. As a MAVO LF owner, i was looking seriously to this new LF in the EDGE body. But i really feel post devaluation of the LF before the launching of this "new" camera, it doesn't worth the upgrade. i'll stick to the LF and get the max out of it, this this so far a great and versatile workhorse. Unless Kinefinity offers an interesting exchange program.
Great review Gerald, not sure if you tried this but if you apply Arri-log-c LUT to the image it usually gives a better starting point than their own LUT (at least it used to when I had the MavoLF, and since this is the same sensor it may work the same)
I have owned the MAVO 6k s35 for over 3 years. I really really like it, and the image is really nice. The image seems to favor skin tones and looks a little brown overall. I like the look, but it does have a certain "look" that makes correcting to neutral tough. I'd love a more neutral lut or sumting
So long expected to hear about Kinefinity product from Gerald! Please go on exploring their stuff. Very much excited about MAVO Edge 6K - a kind of camera/tool for engineering/PC dudes 😎😎
The lack of color accuracy and the fact that they dont provide an ACES IDT is really a bummer as I love the formfactor with the litte screen on the side, like more expensive cameras got it.
Id love to see you review the komodo. I know the camera isn't new anymore but given your breakdown at the end of this review, I do think that the komodo does justify itself in the market and I would love your views on it because there aren't really any comprehensive reviews on the system.
Ive always felt that Kine is trying to find there place by been a cine camera version of the FX6 - offering a cheap enough camera with cinestyle capability (less compromised codec, more ports etc.) while having ease of use features (vND, NVME storage etc.). Edge 8K really surprised me like they finnally get it. Now they just need a cheaper, lower res version. But then they released a camera using the IMX 410 sensor with horrible rolling shutter performance and really bad DR. Fine. Turns out they just wanna make more money. Its not even that much better than the Sigma FP which is ten times cheaper.
I love my Sgma FP, especially paired with a medium format Mamiya 80mm 1.9 and Kipon focal reducer. Crazy to me the image quality you get from it, especially at its price point.
Agreed - though I don't see this bov(ik)ine product anywhere in the league of the FX6 for image repro (and naturally I have to put in the requisite 'at least not yet'). And I do believe both your editor and DP with an fx6 will still have some hair left at the end of a project compared to what will be required of this at 2x your production budget.
@@pmiddlet72 id say confidently this is not at the same league as the fx6, both imgae quaity and ease of use. One can argue it has better codec, but id say whats been packaged inside that codec is not worthy.
Love the design, but ... at that price range, i might as well go for a Red or Arri & get creamy cinematic images. They are on the right track.. just to expensive.
Great review Gerald! If you're planning to give that camera to charity 0:43 , give it to me since I and my friends are in need and we're an aspiring filmmakers with no money but have extensive knowledge when it comes to cameras, filmmaking, and directing. JK but anyways I've watched many of your vids (I'm more of a silent watcher but this video made me comment after hearing 0:43 haha) and it would be a dream come true to me and to my friends who are aspiring indie filmmakers who have been wanting to get a hold of a proper video camera.
10:37 Finally! The most honest RUclipsr who gets it. He’s a RUclipsr, not Filmmaker because he makes RUclipsr videos about camera. Thanks! BTW, I’ll take it off your handles if you’re looking to donate - I’m a filmmaker and can use it.
I just found this camera and im stoked you are taking a crack at it. the best tech reviewer out there. How do you feel that it stacks up to the c300mk3?
Guessing that the hot swap for batteries is that it runs on an internal UPS which is charged by whatever battery is attached. So it probably has 30 seconds of power built in. That way you can hot swap batteries without a blip or interruption in the videoing.
How about the DJI Ronin 4? As far as I've seen great user interface and menu. And build in stabilization and laser focus for all kinds of lenses. Looks awesome, would like to see your views on it.
Excellent review and disclosure, this is def a unique camera for a very unique maker indeed. My favorite feature has to be the media flexibility option. I wish every camera followed the same standard.
It's an interesting camera I like that they are being creative in the build. I wonder how this would manage in the hot dusty bush of Kenya here or back home in the humid and wet jungles of the Amazon?
Using NVMe (PCIel makes at lot sense from a technical standpoint. It's an industry standard und most processors are having PCIe-Lanes directly. So there is no extra controller needed and less latency. (Currently working on a 3 Node HA Cluster with NVMe Storage.)
It's insane how camera companies will give free cameras to creators to keep who will make 1 video review about them rather than creators who on a Cinematographer journey and would make multiple videos about them
Potato jet also got one for free. I think that's a little weird. How many do they "give" away? Isn't the money better spent on improving their camera? Or making it more tempting by lowering their price for people actually buying the camera?
Super review! I missed only some advice regarding usage scenarios. Complimenting my FX6 I can think of very few static and controlled scenarios, i.e. the 45 sec. startup time seems to be quite limiting.
The thing of Aprils Fools is that you have a lot of international followers like me (who do not follow the same day as Americans of the Aprils Fools day) and that video you made of the camera coming in April 1st make is wandered, I always have seen your channel as a serious photography source channel, I like to follow you because your videos are some of the best for photography info.
Love to see a long video, this was really well done! Bit of feedback around presentation style. We know you've been wondering how to present information for videos, and I'm glad to see you taking a less scripted version where you've just got talking points written down. I know that's a lot easier workflow, and for the details sections, I think it works well. But when I was watching the Final Thoughts and Value segment at 31:30 and you switched back to scripted, I realized just how much I loved your writing and presentation style. I was hooked into every word, and the conclusions were succinct and insightful. Now, I'm not saying go back to doing all scripted because I don't think the work is worth it (we'd rather have good tests rather than full script), but I think I'm saying I do still long for those scripted conclusions, and this video reminded me of that. Perhaps this video represents a great middle ground, where most of the video is talking points, but the conclusion is scripted. Either way, I'm here for it all, hope you're doing well :)
After seeing Potato Jet's video yesterday and yours today, I'm starting to think that Kinefinity is like Oprah - "You get a camera! And you get a camera! And you get a camera!!!!" The way they're giving them out, I thought it would be a US$3,000 camera.
This camera reminds me of the days of the JVC and RCA cameras. They were good but didn't really solve any major issues that other cameras were struggling with.
You need a vacation. How about fly to Bali, Indonesia. Do a vlog to any of the cameras that you've reviewed technically. And do a real world review and impression ❤️
Hey Gerald, tuned in South Africa... Great review bro appreciated... Also, couldn't think of a better charity case than myself for that cam if you still looking😅
As always, a great review man. Can you switch to having the mount at 90 degrees to normal? I am assuming there are no non-prores codec options such as a true raw? How would you say it compares to the Ursa mini 12k overall for video quality in your opinion?
Gerald, Please do an Arri alexa review, so we could compare it to other camera reviews you have done. :) It would be a good foundation, like what is the level of PQ other brands need to achive, and how far they are from that.
Thanks for your honesty! Your advice should be accepted if Kinefinity see this video .Hope they could improve the product especially the menu also display the peak outline😅作为中国人应该支持中国的产品,但这个博主的每一个建议都很到位,希望Kinefinity 能够真诚的接受并改进,那个峰值显示竟然出现在系统菜单里,这个太业余了,真的,快门的果冻效应太强,肤色还原的确不准,但我觉得存储方案和扩展以及外观都做得到位,作为一款摄影机,画质还是核心实力,希望中国产品能谦虚接受,在影视器材设备这一块儿能在国际市场有一席之地,就像南光的灯一样,质量好,能打!
I tend to look at each camera in terms of "what images can I capture with this?" first. Admittedly the more you shoot, especially on location, the more important ergonomics become, too. But image first. And that means: Good dynamic range, reasonably fast-rolling shutter, good resolution, good colours, and perhaps the option for high frame rates. It feels like the resolution and high frame rates are the only areas where this camera could beat the image quality of my seven-year-old, quarter-of-the-price a7s (mark I), which is a little disappointing given that those are really more quantity than quality metrics, while the other three (colours, rolling shutter and dynamic range) are true quality metrics in the sense that even on a small screen through RUclips compression they tell you whether you're looking at high-quality imagery. Those drive caddies with the USB-C port right on them are pretty awesome though. Not hard to do, but I've never seen such an elegant solution before that works as an internal and external drive without attaching another adapter or taking them out of the caddy.
I think Kinefinity pockets must have cried when you mentioned the 11.5 stops of dynamic range and that Sonys like A7siii do better with and without noise reduction in camera.
Interesting take. If you are going to give it away though I have a great home for it and would love, it. I have a project coming up that it could be great for. Additionally, I want to say great review, but honestly you have set the bar extremely high for yourself, and this is the standard I have come to expect from you, which is why I come to your channel for objective reviews. So, I'll just say thank you instead.
I will take the camera off your hands. I'm a photojournalist/entertainment videographer in NYC. I use a few sony a7iv cameras and fujis to get the job done. I could definitely use this on some of my more commercial shoots.
Gerald, your disclosures deserve recognition and demonstrate your integrity. Thank you for setting the standard
Your display of integrity is really something. Deep respect and greetings from Croatia.
true that! like thats taking your integrity to the next level, fair play to him
Hey Iam Jerome iam a close partner with Kinefinity thank you for your review, here are a few add ons:
- The rs out for power is a 3 pin fisher port . Standardised by arri. Will both serve as power out or as rec stop trigger (you can buy cables from a lot of brands including tilta nucleus)
- About max fps. It works simple. It's a cmos sensor and it doesn't do line skipping because image quality is important for Kinefinity clients. It reads out from top to bottom so the more you crop in to the sensor the quicker the rs becomes thus the potential amount of fps you can read out increases parallel to that number.
-This is the very first fw which enables the sidescreen and touch functionality. It will be improved in the next fw and lack will be gone.. (proof is in the pudding though :)
- About luts. You can display two luts simultaneously for instance log on the kinemon/ kine evf, and a rec709 on the sdi
- Ext port will be for 5g dongle . For almost latency free video pass through. Basically serves as a router.
- Dial function on kinemon is a very good point. It's already on the list of the engineers but good you noted it!
- Menu over sdi will be enabled in next fw! We know its important so it's fixed ASAP:)
- With the kinemon 5u at full brightness the camera consumes 39 Watts.
- The pl mount is active, thus has contacts it will support cooke protocol so all metadata is passed through
- You can set the zebras to match clipping point in log instead of alligned the lut. But this will be def improved
-About ntfs formatting.
Side rant:
I'm curious what in the actual stool slosh you mean by 'partner' of but 'a bit affiliated' with Kinefinity?
1 bit of advice.. you come across a bit agressive.. never a good way to open up a conversation like this. enjoy!
I am glad to see your comments here Jerome I was almost asking you about this new camera 😜🎥 👌
Great review Gerald! You almost convinced me to cancel my Sonosonic A1H pre-order for this
@Kamron Kadirov that's where they get you with the "ebay trick." The A1H costs $3499 MSRP but the shipping is $5,000
@Kamron Kadirov no flippy screen though bro. Deal breaker
the integrity with which you operate is truly inspiring
I am so torn between this and the GH6. Which would you advise? I want something cinematic.
ah ah Philip
Not that you're asking for mine... But I'd say go for this one... It's a work in progress but it is a cinema camera, and you know the value of that better than any other. GH6, no matter how good, is still... well, you know... not really a dedicated film/video camera. Also: As far as DSLR/Mirrorless hybrid bodies go... Sony already has better, more versatile offerings...also, if we're not forgetting, there is the R5C from canon... So, you know, many many choices.
For RUclips? good one man!
Can't wait to see your review.
love this lol
@@KamranJawaid yeah so this was a joke…
At first I thought - 34min for an April fools video? That’s a commitment!!!
Took me like 2min into the video to realize this is a real review lol
That would be such commitment, can you imagine?? 😂😂
That’s the April fool’s joke. Is that it’s a real review.
So many well thought out design details. I love seeing Kinefinity’s approach to camera design.
I admire your honesty and you are one of the very few influencers I trust.
A7SIII with RAW has 11.6 stops at SNR = 2
Ursa 12K has 11.8 (SNR = 2)
Of course, you have cameras with better DR like c300III, but this one is an s35 16:9 sensor that can't even use proper Anamorphic lenses and has a pretty bad rolling shutter and significant form factor.
No one can sell it better than Gerald...Period...WOW DUDE.. what a camera...
Although 2 totally different styles, You and Philip Bloom do the best reviews on the internet. great video.
I like your value based perspective at the end. Way to go... Kinfinity used to have their own raw, and were the only cinema camera with raw and full frame you could get with E mount. That market has come and gone so I think they are trying to find their place again. Companies like this are very important to the market and drive innovation so i hope they find that sweet spot and keep chasing the next big thing.
wow, this camera looks really promising!
I love your nerdy reviews of cameras so beyond my needs. I missed them so thanks for this one.
Poor rolling shutter performance makes it a handicapped camera now matter how.
My god I want this camera so much. Would be such a game changer to my work.
Love the review as always.
I've watched potato jet's review of this camera, and i wished you made a review for the technical aspects. There it is! Awesome.
❤️
Seems like a decent camera, but I kind of feel like it’s a Z Cam e2-f6 with sticker shock-am I overlooking something that warrants a premium over that capable mini-cine?
I'm rooting for Kinefinity and this Camera looks awesome.
@@abhishekmisra7788 yeah I have a dummy battery and it pretty much sits on my desk.
TL:DR
But the diminutive size of the dslr shaped cam doesn't require any snobbery from big cam productions or folks outside of the industry who think that bigger and more complicated equals 'professional'.
You're at the top of your game Gerald Undone. A+++
Loved the review!
Great review Gerald, not sure if you tried this but if you apply Arri-log-c LUT to the image it usually gives a better starting point than their own LUT (at least it used to when I had the MavoLF, and since this is the same sensor it may work the same)
Thanks for another amazing review. I got a Komodo on order and will continue with that purchase!
I have the Terra 4K and I find myself using an Alexa rec709 lut more than the kinefinity lut these days
BMPCC 6K cheaper
So long expected to hear about Kinefinity product from Gerald! Please go on exploring their stuff. Very much excited about MAVO Edge 6K - a kind of camera/tool for engineering/PC dudes 😎😎
Great review. It's a genuine Gerald's signature. Thanks.
Excellent review and thanks for mentioning the camera comparisons at the end.
The lack of color accuracy and the fact that they dont provide an ACES IDT is really a bummer as I love the formfactor with the litte screen on the side, like more expensive cameras got it.
Aces is underway. And we have a log transform tool to accurately match arri log c
@@gafpagear thank you for your insight!
Always the best sponsor read integration in the game.
Can’t wait for Camera Conspiracy’s sketch on this.
Someone get this man an Arri to test!
Id love to see you review the komodo. I know the camera isn't new anymore but given your breakdown at the end of this review, I do think that the komodo does justify itself in the market and I would love your views on it because there aren't really any comprehensive reviews on the system.
I’d love to see a side by side comparison of this unit and the BlackMagic Pocket 6K. Really interested in how well the color science holds up.
You are better then ever in all aspects! Thats all ! Thanks ! 🤗
@@TacticalCactusMedia The FP is such a nice camera if you know what you want from it.
Gerald dropped a video! Yay! Upvoted.
Great review. I hope Kinefinity absorbs your remarks and uses them to the advantage of their products.
Excellent review and disclosure, this is def a unique camera for a very unique maker indeed. My favorite feature has to be the media flexibility option. I wish every camera followed the same standard.
Looks amazing! Thanks, Gerald!
It's an interesting camera I like that they are being creative in the build. I wonder how this would manage in the hot dusty bush of Kenya here or back home in the humid and wet jungles of the Amazon?
I think it's a decent camera. Anyone who wants to make movies and this was the only option they had. I think anyone would be happy.
Using NVMe (PCIel makes at lot sense from a technical standpoint. It's an industry standard und most processors are having PCIe-Lanes directly. So there is no extra controller needed and less latency.
(Currently working on a 3 Node HA Cluster with NVMe Storage.)
I'll take one for the team and be on the receiving end of your charitable donation hahaha. But seriously, I respect you for doing that.
Or making it more tempting by lowering their price for people actually buying the camera?
that is what you call a polite, objective thrashing.
Your reviews are among the best. 💯💯👍👍
Lol that focus peaking quirk, let out a pretty big laugh when I saw that
Super review! I missed only some advice regarding usage scenarios. Complimenting my FX6 I can think of very few static and controlled scenarios, i.e. the 45 sec. startup time seems to be quite limiting.
Ill take it!! I have been eyeing this camera!
Are we going to see a review of the Sachtler tripod and fluid head? Would be interested in your thoughts. Thks for video.
And you get a camera!!!!"
The way they're giving them out, I thought it would be a US$3,000 camera.
How does this compare to Blackmagic? Especially with the newer Pyxis?
Hey Gerald, tuned in South Africa... Great review bro appreciated... Also, couldn't think of a better charity case than myself for that cam if you still looking😅
I really would like to see an actual film project of you ♥️
Would love it he reviewed Red cameras like Komodo or V raptor !
Amazing review as always
As always, a great review man.
Can you switch to having the mount at 90 degrees to normal?
I am assuming there are no non-prores codec options such as a true raw?
How would you say it compares to the Ursa mini 12k overall for video quality in your opinion?
Gerald, Please do an Arri alexa review, so we could compare it to other camera reviews you have done. :) It would be a good foundation, like what is the level of PQ other brands need to achive, and how far they are from that.
The last dance of imx410…
I had been wondering whether or not the sensor was the same as used in the panasonic S series cameras, but apparently it isn't.
The rolling shutter was a deal breaker for me. Picked a Red Komodo as an alternative.
Great review ! ... I am up for getting the camera if no candidate shows up :)
Getting ready to shoot my first feature film.
Awesome disclaimer sir…
@25:00 how does it make a beep sound when you record if there's no speaker
Great review. Thanks. But as a guy needing to make a no budget feature in Vancouver I'm wondering about the giveaway
Like Gerald honesty, if it's not good you will heard about it :)
I wish I had this masterpiece 😍
Gerald, when putting an E mount lens on with no electronic iris control what is the default appeture.. fastest or slowest available?
Interesting take. If you are going to give it away though I have a great home for it and would love, it. I have a project coming up that it could be great for. Additionally, I want to say great review, but honestly you have set the bar extremely high for yourself, and this is the standard I have come to expect from you, which is why I come to your channel for objective reviews. So, I'll just say thank you instead.
I will take the camera off your hands. I'm a photojournalist/entertainment videographer in NYC. I use a few sony a7iv cameras and fujis to get the job done. I could definitely use this on some of my more commercial shoots.
