I’ve been thinking about getting one of these to pair with my 6534+. The reissue is pretty killer it definitely has that old block letter chunk and grunt to it
For what it's worth, the "block letters" do say "1992". "Block letter" refers to the "EVH" on the original 1992 faceplate which changed to Eddie's signature.
Excellent video and review, I expected your take on the qc issues with our amps would be fair and professional and it is. Well done. Will update you when I get the replacement 🤘.
Sounds killer, super chunky like the block letter. Hope they fix the QC issues. That's not a good thing to happen when stuff just starts rolling out. Awesome demo
Yeah, the guy that had the one with the dead power section got a replacement, opened it at the store to test it and the new one also had a dead power section. Two in a row for the same customer, really not good.
To be honest - half the reason the 5150's exist is because EVH just wanted something that was always available... where he could just pick up another one at whatever local store he was near... They have always been somewhat of a budget amp and QC issues come with that
Thanks for the info! I just received mine today. Sounds totally brutal. Luckily no issue with the input jacks. The only odd thing I noticed is with the master volume. When the master volume is all the way down/off, sound starts coming through the speakers when I start turning up the preamp volume. Does yours do that? It definitely comes alive as I turn up the master but thought it was weird that turning the master all the way down does not completely kill the sound.
I just got mine from Guitar Center about an hour ago after months of waiting, and the post gain rhythm and post gain lead do not work at all. I'm getting sound, and the tone sounds amazing, but I without being able to use the post gain I cannot make the amp any louder. I remember my original 6505 from 13 years ago would shake my entire house when I cranked it. I was hopeful with this reissue. So far from forums about the older amps, it could be tubes. I'm not sure if I should take to back to guitar center or a local credible shop to help me out. Man I'm so bummed out.
@Metalhead Productions update* ordered another one. Went to GC today to QC new amp in store, and amp was dead out of the box. No signal 🤣 Peavey is definitely down bad.
They probably didn't have issues. Unless the QC or parts are super bad, plenty of people prob had fine units, and after I bent the jack back into place, I haven't had a single issue.
I'm on the fence on these. Hesitant of potential QC issues and some other vids sounded muffled and...well..."bad" for lack of a better word. Sounds great in this vid. Unfortunately trying one in the real world is not an option for me. I'd have to order online. Ughhhhhhh
They sound good and like they should. Old 5150s don't have that modern bright edge the 5150 does, but still sounds like a monster, especially boosted, but yeah, QC issues are a concern.
I'm terribly sorry you had issues with the input jacks and I'm curious to know why. Would you mind letting me take a look at your amp if you have more problems with it?
The jacks weren't bent to tension. I bent them back and it's fixed now. Seems like the jacks installed either got bent or just weren't exactly right and no one checked the amp.
@@MetalHeadProductions My 5150 3 50watt combo 1x12 I can not even use the pre amp its stuck as well, must be the same situation, those lift metal flaps must not have been pre bent !
Yeah, and I love my EVH stealth 50 watt too, but I'm more confident about the quality on that. I looked over the amp pretty thoroughly after fixing the jacks and everything seems fine, I'm just hoping there isn't some weird little thing that's gonna back in the future now.
Yeah it sounds great especially with a boost. A boosted 5150/6505 is one of the foundational modern metal tones and it will get you there. I can recommend it based on that, but be careful
sick! sounds pretty close to the peavey 5150 i had for a while. do you have the IRs to download or purchase anywhere? Its a pretty sick tone you have going there.
@@MetalHeadProductions yeah you should. id be down to grab the individual IRs that you blend in the captor x. I personally run a RedSeven Amp Central as my load box/IR loader as its impedance curve is in between v30 and greenback speakers which gives it a slightly better feel than the captor x, since that has a more general impedance curve. You can tweak the voicing knob in the app to get quite close though. Let me know if i can paypal you some cash for those IRs as your tone is awesome in these demos.
just my opinion but an amp "MIC" is going to have these Quality Issues. This should have been a USA Made Reissue, I would have paid more for better quality. I cannot spend my hard earned money on these "MIC" amps. I don't trust them if they have these issue right out of the box much less the longevity of them. Great video though. thanks!
Plenty of good stuff can come from china, but doesn't look like they're putting in the QC to do that. That being said, yeah I would have been willing to pay more for a better, USA made reissue like the originals.
Plenty of good guitar gear comes out of China now, but yeah, the QC here doesn't actually seem to be present, at least with what I've seen now from others that have gotten these since they came out. I just don't think they're testing them. Shame, it sounds killer.
Man, peavey has always had so many QC issues. Seems just like it’s plagued the 5150 in general, including the EVH iterations. I think I’ll just stick with the Josh Middleton plug-in, and I’m an “amp guy” through and through. The issues are not worth it though.
The EVH amps I've owned have always been solid, and the earlier USA made peavey 6505s and 5150s were tanks, but yeah, sad to see their QC dropped so bad.
@@MetalHeadProductions even the USAs I had. Many of them the same problem, the classic volume drop that never gets fixed because every time you fix the problem, the amp overheating causes the connections to fail. Such a bummer because it’s a classic.
I recently purchased a used 2-year-old 6505 that was made in China, and the input jacks are the same, really crap.... have to push the lead all the way in and doesn't seem to hold properly, terrible to think a great amp like this is now made in China and the quality is now shit... and they still have the cheek to ask the original price.. if I purchase this new it would have gone straight back for a refund.
Yeah I heard about that as well, although this is made in China, not the country that lynch was talking about, however they're probably paying their workers next to nothing in the China factory, if we're being honest.
Hey they've done the 6505 for a long time, and it's great to see a return of this classic, especially with all the people selling 5150's for insane prices because EVH is dead.
@@MetalHeadProductions when I seen them in concert they had that randomly flashing in the background and I was trying to take pictures of it for a tattoo. Thanks man I'm gonna grab one.

One of the best videos out on the 1992. Thank you 😊 Also fantastic tones.
The block letters should’ve said 1992 instead of 6505 imo
Yeah I can see that
