(False gates at 5759, true gates at 1315). Now this is the decoding of a very difficult bike lock from ABUS (Tresor Chain Catena Combo 1385); it has some very effective ant-decoding features.
I was playing with this lock since I got it in April 2016. If you develop the right feeling and if you play long enough with the wheels, there is a chance of opening. Hope you like a long decoding session - here performed under laboratory conditions.
By the way, that's the first video about this lock ruclips.net/video/727-QM_dOGw/видео.html

Thank you very much for your videos about this lock, especially the disassembly. It helped a lot to understand the lock and after crafting a "gripper" tool, that helped me to turn the wheels I finally made it to decode my lock.
It really was a hard thing to do. So the lock is very nice.
      Best regard,
      Stefan

I had a chance to decode one of these for real today. Knowing there were likely to be false gates I tried to note any slight binding in each wheel and ended up with two numbers for each. That reduced the possible combinations to a number where trial and error doesn't take too long. Once I got it open I found that each wheel is made the same and so the false gates are always four away from the true ones. My combo was 8864 therefore the false gates were 2208. If you look at your binding numbers and check they are four apart for each wheel then take the lower number in each case, you have your combo!

Thank you! With your description, I finally managed to open my brother's lock - he no longer knew the code ... We spent hours trying to open it. Now I've finally made it - in a few minutes!
For each ring, I wrote down the two numbers, I believed was a right or wrong gate. Then I just tried the combinations ... maybe I was just lucky ;). Anyway, I'm happy :).
Ach - und einen dankbaren Gruss aus der Schweiz! :)

The false gates are always at the same distance to the true gates (-4). So if you have two candidates with a distance of four, there is definitely one favorite.
However, congratulations. I tried hours with the one of my daughter and didn't find the combination (which a "friend" of her scrambled).
Now, with these videos, I hope to succeed.

If you know the false and real gates, and they are not opposite each other, you only have 2 combinations to try typically. For example:
1 or 5, 3 or 7, 1 or 5, 5 or 9. Gates are 4 apart. so combination is likely to be 1315 or 5759. oops Jim Hood has already pointed this out below.

I searched some videos and try to learn by myself. But then I take a brake and find yours.
I tried and tried and tried... Then I stop and listen to your 2nd part of the video meanwhile rolling my 4th code wheel and on 0 it opens lol.
I got luck to accidentally set correct the 1st 3 codes. So it happened to be 0980.
This lock is awesome. It's ruin your feedback quite well.
So yes who interested it took me 30+ minutes but seems like i got natural 20 on luck xD

omg, you were so close [5:05]. Found one of these and wanna know the combination now. Not sure if I brute force it [1h 40mins max] or if I try my luck, it's really hard to feel anything. I know from another video there is one true and one false gate in each wheel.
It's open. ;) I decided to switch between both methods a few minutes each and see witch one is faster, the second round with brute force opened it. It was the area code for landlines of my city, so I had to do less than 400 combinations only.

After wasting hours trying to decode it, I've learned that the strongest clue is that all digits lock up when the last three digits are correct, meaning you ideally only need to test 1000 + 10 combinations.

    • @Potti314
      @Potti314  5 лет назад +2

If you consider decoding a waste of time, then stop doing it. For me locks are puzzle to solve and I have fun working on them. Brute force attacks will not teach you anything.

Are you ready to give this another crack? I have a matching lock branded as a Tioga and initially I was having a lot of trouble. I watched your videos on the lock and unchained my bike to have a play. It seems that some manufacturers have the false gates 4/6 away from the true gate. The Tioga one I have has the false gates 5 away from the true gate. If you want to have a go at a new method then reply here and I'll email it to you. I can now crack mine in under 20s with eyes closed, several seconds quicker with eyes open.
