Hi Jack! My name is Bob. I have a 1999 Dodge Roadtrek 190 popular. Its just like yours. My Roadtrek is a rust bucket that leaks everywhere when it rains but, I love the motorhome!!
Kathy Hawksford I was very pleased to come across your video of your Roadtrek. Thank you for sharing what you've learned about Roadtrek. I recently inherited a 1990 Roadtrek. While it was 'all original', the inside had a pervasive musty smell. The smell motivated me into remove the carpeting and fabric wall covering. I still need to learn how all the equipment (fridge, heater, toilet and air conditioner) work. When I read the comments below, I learned I need to figure out whether my Roadtrek has a generator - I have now included determining whether my Roadtrek has a generator :). I'm now on the final stretch of completing the upgrades and am so looking forward to learning how to run all the accessories and to new adventures in the Roadtrek. Thanks!!!
I have a 1999 Dodge Roadtrek 190 Popular. I have been living in it for 1 year now and I LOVE IT!!! I like that if I don't like my neighbors, then I can turn the ignition key and change my neighbors very easily!!! The only bad thing is the Police here in Los Angeles California seem to enjoy harassing Van Dwellers.
I appreciate your attitude about affordability. I feel like if I went into debt for such a thing, it would be less joyful and more worrisome. I'd probably also not feel so free to experiment with modifications. I think the problem-solving to make the unit "mine" would be a large portion of the fun! I see this video came out 7 months ago. I'd enjoy seeing an update on anything you've done since then.
OK, I've been thinking about an addendum to our "Bob" renovations. There are some very crucial mods that we have done that could use documentation. Hold that thought ;-)
Go for it! I'm actually contemplating installing another on the bathroom door since somehow we ended up with two of the hinges. That way someone could use it while sitting on the edge of our bed.
Hi Monica and Jack I'm looking at one identical to this with the 360 motor in Nashville in a weekend or two, after some tuning up can I take it down to visit you to get a list of things that I should bring to my mechanic? I'm from Little Rock but my brother got his doctorate at UT and I got my BS there and my own doctorate as well.
Thank you Jack You made some wonderful upgrades! I would love to add the extra table to my 2002 Roadtrek Popular as you did. I would like to know if you secured the hinges from back of the cabinet? Which is a 1/4 " panel so I'm worried it won't hold.
Yes it does. I discovered that the oil dipstick has a factory defect. If you fill it to the "fill" line it is too much oil and it shuts itself off. The oil should be just below the "add" line. Don't know if this is your problem but you should be aware of this at any rate.
@@Roloxtv2 Worked from the beginning when we bought it. Just changed the oil and noticed that it would run for awhile and then quit. That's when I researched and found the problem with the dipstick. Seems any small engine mechanic could maybe help you out. Good luck!
The handle was standard on our model but we had to replace the seat with an aftermarket that sadly does not have the handle. The seat jammed in the most forward position so we had to replace it.
When looking at these Class B van conversions, defintely have the brakes, shocks, and suspension components checked - especially the front suspension and steering. These rigs are made on standard van chassis of either 3/4 ton or 1 ton design. The cabin and related build is very heavy, and you can't unload it like a regular work van. So, it is always max'd out - even when sitting still. The weight is hard on the brakes and hard on the suspension and steering, and requires periodic inspection and preventive maintenance. Don't assume those parts will be good because of low mileage. These are high wear components in heavy vans. Another potential weak spot is the transmission, which, despite having a large tranny cooler, will run very hot in a van due to lousy exterior air circulation. Don't rely on nice clean looking red tranny fluid. Anyone can change that before you get there. If they had manual transmissions like a true working truck, there would rarely be an issue. But no one wants to drive a manual anymore.
Holy cow I have a 1997 road trek and this thing is way more advanced then the 1997. What the heck? 🤬. You could your for about $49,000 right now. There are no class B RV’s available.

Great Job! Husband and I are just now looking for a Roadtrek. Looking forward to visiting grand babies across the midwest in style!
I love that lil table.
I also have a 1998 RoadTrek 190. I've lived in it for month and it makes a great daily driver.

I like the extra table! I've been meaning to do the same sort of thing in my RT.

Very nice rig.
Thanks 👍

I drilled into the door to attach the mounts. It seems very sturdy!
Lovely van! What company did you use for the mattress? Thanks!
We purchased the mattress from: www.tochta.com. They aren't cheap but you definitely get what you pay for!
Hi, have you ever took out and put in the windows on the fiberglass?
Have never done the windows but I could see that it might be an issue!
Hello Jack, I also have 2000 Roadtrek 190. When I bought it the onboard generator does not work. Does your generator work? Let me know. Thank you.

@@monicaandjack3132 Have ever replaced anything since you bought it or the generator works fine?

Very cool! May I ask how you did the fridge? Is it a photograph decoupaged to the front? Or? Thank you!
Yes, it is!
@@monicaandjack3132 Its beautiful!
It's that for sale
We plan to put The Bob up for sale sometime in the spring of 2023. Will be asking about $22.5 k.
What's a camper like this cost in today's market
Well, a fixer upper like ours can be had for around 10k, but that was before Covid.
