Mustang Island State Park Texas

This video is about our November 2020 trip to Mustang Island State Park located just south of Corpus Christi, Texas in our 1998 RoadTrek Popular. This is perhaps the perfect time to visit the Texas coast as the beaches are mostly deserted and the super fresh seafood available from the local restaurants is delicious. The photos taken fall into a category that I have called "Beach Abstractions". ...

This is a short video of Monica and Jack's Colorado trip in September to October of 2020 when the Aspens were at their height of changing colors. We were traveling in our 1998 Roadtrek Popular RV lovingly nicknamed "The Bob" (bucket of bolts). Our route took us up thru Amarillo, then Trinidad Lake, on to Montrose and the Black Canyon of The Gunnison, down to Durango and across northern New Mexi...
Upgrades to "The BOB", our 1998 Roadtrek 190 Popular RV
Просмотров 35 тыс.4 года назад
Our "BOB" gets upgrades such that he is not so much the Bucket of Bolts anymore. Our "Bob" is a 1998 RoadTrek 190 Popular built on a Dodge 3500 chassis and was largely in a state disrepair when we purchased him but with refinishing the woodwork, installing new curtains and various other upgrades he is now looking mighty fine! See how a couple of artistic types personalize their RV. Link to our ...

I love that lil table.
I did mosaics on mine too,...but yours looks professional 😉
Great Job! Husband and I are just now looking for a Roadtrek. Looking forward to visiting grand babies across the midwest in style!
Excellent job looks marvelous. I love it.
Is there a video or reference on how to install the steering box brace?
Just bought one still learning how it works 😂 😊

Hi Monica and Jack I'm looking at one identical to this with the 360 motor in Nashville in a weekend or two, after some tuning up can I take it down to visit you to get a list of things that I should bring to my mechanic? I'm from Little Rock but my brother got his doctorate at UT and I got my BS there and my own doctorate as well.
Hi! How the heck did you attach that handle on the back of the passenger seat?
The handle was standard on our model but we had to replace the seat with an aftermarket that sadly does not have the handle. The seat jammed in the most forward position so we had to replace it.
I also have a 1998 RoadTrek 190. I've lived in it for month and it makes a great daily driver.
I heard there’s a sensor in the engine compartment for that ac switch issue
Hi, have you ever took out and put in the windows on the fiberglass?
Have never done the windows but I could see that it might be an issue!
Nice work in The BOB, I have a RT-99D190P and Im planning to install the Steering Stabilizer, you give a good information about, thankyou.
Thank you for this video. Very helpful.
Súper hermosa Gracias por compartir
Sloppy steering in vans is pretty typical and it happens at fairly low mileage. Same with front suspension and brake issues. It's because there is so much weight forward in vans, and most of the braking power is always in the front on vehicles. Class B conversions are especially susceptible to early wear of these components due to the extreme load thay are under, being RV's. Check that transission, too. Service it often. The oversized cooler often isn't enough. Nice rig, though.
When looking at these Class B van conversions, defintely have the brakes, shocks, and suspension components checked - especially the front suspension and steering. These rigs are made on standard van chassis of either 3/4 ton or 1 ton design. The cabin and related build is very heavy, and you can't unload it like a regular work van. So, it is always max'd out - even when sitting still. The weight is hard on the brakes and hard on the suspension and steering, and requires periodic inspection and preventive maintenance. Don't assume those parts will be good because of low mileage. These are high wear components in heavy vans. Another potential weak spot is the transmission, which, despite having a large tranny cooler, will run very hot in a van due to lousy exterior air circulation. Don't rely on nice clean looking red tranny fluid. Anyone can change that before you get there. If they had manual transmissions like a true working truck, there would rarely be an issue. But no one wants to drive a manual anymore.
Thank you Jack You made some wonderful upgrades! I would love to add the extra table to my 2002 Roadtrek Popular as you did. I would like to know if you secured the hinges from back of the cabinet? Which is a 1/4 " panel so I'm worried it won't hold.
I drilled into the door to attach the mounts. It seems very sturdy!
Can't wait to see what's next!!
Really nice rig. Super cute dogs.
They are! ;-)
Excellent technician
I've got your phone # for when I'm in Texas. AL
Just about to buy one to apply most of the work to. Love you and your wtfes modifications. May l contact you for more info
Yes, you can text me at 512-423-3855, Sorry for the delayed response.
It's that for sale
We plan to put The Bob up for sale sometime in the spring of 2023. Will be asking about $22.5 k.
We just bought a 1994 Roadtrek & have the steering wheel issue where there’s a lot of play. Thank you for the information! 🤗
Glad to help!
I have a 1999 Dodge Roadtrek 190 Popular. I have been living in it for 1 year now and I LOVE IT!!! I like that if I don't like my neighbors, then I can turn the ignition key and change my neighbors very easily!!! The only bad thing is the Police here in Los Angeles California seem to enjoy harassing Van Dwellers.
Your creativity in customizing your Roadtrek is wonderful.
Hello from Colorado. I am looking for a Roadtrek and your videos gave me information that will help me in my search. With all you have done with Bob I take it you are happy with it. It will be for my pup and I for some road trips and staying around Colorado.
Yup, pretty happy with it especially the very reasonable 14.5 mpg which is pretty good for an RV with the gas prices what they are. Just now replacing the A/C which just failed this year after 24 years (next video). We love going to Colorado and will likely do more trips there since my sister has relocated to Denver. Good luck with your search!
What's a camper like this cost in today's market
Well, a fixer upper like ours can be had for around 10k, but that was before Covid.
We enjoyed you video. We have a 97 Dodge Road trek 190 popular that probably needs new shocks. You replaced with Bilsteins. Do you remember the shock numbers. I have searched, but not sure which ones to order. Have you been satisfied with them? Thanks, happy camping.
I ordered the shocks from BilsteinLifts.com. Pretty certain the part was: www.bilsteinlifts.com/shop/dodge/bilstein-b6-4600-front-shocks-for-1995-1998-dodge-b3500/ DO NOT ORDER FROM SHOCK WAREHOUSE as they sent me the wrong shocks and never refunded my return! In any case there are two Bilsteins that potentially work. One for 4500+ pounds on the front end and one for less. I finally figured out that the lighter shocks were the correct ones for the Roadtrek.
Thank you.
Very nice rig.
Thanks 👍
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the van!!! Amazing inspirational ideas by the way
Thanks so much!
Kathy Hawksford I was very pleased to come across your video of your Roadtrek. Thank you for sharing what you've learned about Roadtrek. I recently inherited a 1990 Roadtrek. While it was 'all original', the inside had a pervasive musty smell. The smell motivated me into remove the carpeting and fabric wall covering. I still need to learn how all the equipment (fridge, heater, toilet and air conditioner) work. When I read the comments below, I learned I need to figure out whether my Roadtrek has a generator - I have now included determining whether my Roadtrek has a generator :). I'm now on the final stretch of completing the upgrades and am so looking forward to learning how to run all the accessories and to new adventures in the Roadtrek. Thanks!!!
You’re amazing….sorry we missed the show. We need to visit…! Be safe…
Lovely van! What company did you use for the mattress? Thanks!
We purchased the mattress from: www.tochta.com. They aren't cheap but you definitely get what you pay for!
Pauls seafood has the best selection ,there is one in Corpus Christi too.
Wow, didn't know there was another location. Thanks!
Holy cow I have a 1997 road trek and this thing is way more advanced then the 1997. What the heck? 🤬. You could your for about $49,000 right now. There are no class B RV’s available.
Aww, I love the chandelier:)
Very cool! May I ask how you did the fridge? Is it a photograph decoupaged to the front? Or? Thank you!
Yes, it is!
@@monicaandjack3132 Its beautiful!
Nice video. I was there by the sea about 1.5 weeks ago.
Very cool!
I appreciate your attitude about affordability. I feel like if I went into debt for such a thing, it would be less joyful and more worrisome. I'd probably also not feel so free to experiment with modifications. I think the problem-solving to make the unit "mine" would be a large portion of the fun! I see this video came out 7 months ago. I'd enjoy seeing an update on anything you've done since then.
OK, I've been thinking about an addendum to our "Bob" renovations. There are some very crucial mods that we have done that could use documentation. Hold that thought ;-)

Hello Jack, I also have 2000 Roadtrek 190. When I bought it the onboard generator does not work. Does your generator work? Let me know. Thank you.
Yes it does. I discovered that the oil dipstick has a factory defect. If you fill it to the "fill" line it is too much oil and it shuts itself off. The oil should be just below the "add" line. Don't know if this is your problem but you should be aware of this at any rate.
@@monicaandjack3132 Have ever replaced anything since you bought it or the generator works fine?
@@Roloxtv2 Worked from the beginning when we bought it. Just changed the oil and noticed that it would run for awhile and then quit. That's when I researched and found the problem with the dipstick. Seems any small engine mechanic could maybe help you out. Good luck!
What’s the generator make/model? I have a Roadtrek 190 popular and the generator doesn’t work; onan microlite 2800
@@Sinobee. same as yours.
I like the extra table! I've been meaning to do the same sort of thing in my RT.
Go for it! I'm actually contemplating installing another on the bathroom door since somehow we ended up with two of the hinges. That way someone could use it while sitting on the edge of our bed.
Superb photography, awesome art, and narrative, it is a wonderful trip. Travelled most of the trip myself over the years, not Palo Duro or Garden of the Gods. Brought back many memories. Grew up in the San Joaquin Valley at the base of Yosemite. Many happy childhood memories from the many trips we took. Have been impressed since the time we visited you of your photography projects, Jack and Monica your art is not just beautiful it is intriguing, with your play of light and proportions. Thank you for sharing. Laurel Puryear
Thanks for the complements. This was my first time to Yosemite and while its breathtaking I was a bit surprised at how crowded it was even in September. We could not get an RV spot in the park itself but just outside the park there were plenty of mostly empty campgrounds.
Excellent work by both of you. Makes me want to travel, especially now.
Yes, can't wait for the day when we can get back on the road with The Bob!
Jack & Monica, Your video tour is one of the most outstanding I've ever seen. It was great to see some of the places Shiela & I have visited and lived. We lived in Amarillo and of course went to Palo Duro Canyon many times. They have a fantastic music show in the Canyon during the summers. Colorado Springs and Garden of the Gods is another place we have visited. That is where our son James graduated from the Air Force Academy. BTW, he is now a Colonial and is stationed at Langley AFB as the Cybertthe commander and will soon be going to Boston as the head there. He lives on a 35' Hunter sailboat there near Langley AFB. We also enjoyed visiting Yosemite. This video is wonderful to see and I hope I can see more! Your friend, Jim Lotspeich (I thank you for all the help you did when we presented the video/audio for the Cedar Park Chamber noon meetings at Hill Country Bible Church. Thank you!
Thanks Jim. Glad you enjoyed. Appreciate working with you for the Cedar Park Chamber.
