  • In this video I'll go over the cut and fold mod that is very common on the rear quarter panel on a Jeep Cherokee XJ. We'll list the reasons for doing so, and exactly where and how to make the cuts and fold it in.

Lol the only reason I did a "comp cut" on my xj was because I live in the northern rust belt and didn't have any lower quarters left😀

In my whole life in new England I've never seen a jeep rear quarter as clean and rust free as the one you cut off your car 🤣

I was really getting kinda frustrated because I have a 2000 xj that I bought site unseen and the fact that it has a lot of bad rust spots was covered up fairly well...smh. I was looking on RUclips to see about replacing the quaters but then I came across this and it is a great idea. I'll make it for off road capable and save a lot of time money and aggravation so thanks for this buddy.

Thanks! That was pretty straight forward. From working with sheet metal a lot in my life I have found it to my advantage when bending metal in a straight line is to take an utility knife and score a line on the inside of the metal for example that crease at

I'll be doing that to my XJ sometime in the future as well. Great to see how its actually done! I always figured people just hacked it off and welded a new piece of metal underneath. I didn't know it was folded like that.

Hey Matt I just removed the rear covers on my 2001 XJ and I will have to do some cutting, much more than you did the rust has formed right at the wheel well and maybe 2 inches into the panel but I can still cut it and fold but will add some sheet metal to close the underside thanks for the how to video keep the videos coming dude ..

Can you do a video on "comp cutting" the rear of the xj since the cut and fold method of wheel opening enlarging isn't enough for guys like me with big tires who want to keep their center of gravity low?

Would you do a video on how to do a comp cut on a Jeep Cherokee the one where it starts from the top of rear fender and cuts straight back to the tail light that way you're able to extend your rear 6 inchs

might want to paint the edges you cut before folding them over otherwise you are putting together raw steel edges that are going to grow cancer inside the hard work you just went through to make. cold galvanizing paint works well for this and plays nice withe the galvanizing the factory uses under the paint.
