      How to Starfinder: Dont.
      Throw away Starfinder and play Traveller instead

      @@METALGEARMATRIXCan you elaborate?

    • @METALGEARMATRIX
      @METALGEARMATRIX 8 месяцев назад +1

      @CommissarMitch Starfinder is extremely clunky, I have tried playing it twice and both campaigns I had frustrated players. Everything is wildly more complicated than it should be; from combat to car chases to ship combat
      If you wanna play a space opera, play the Traveller TTRPG and use the Starfinder setting.

    Some game suggestions for character creation (or for a game review):
    Modiphius Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of
    Mythras/Runequest 6
    Rolemaster -> HARP Fantasy -> Against the Darkmaster
    Warhammer FRP

    First, I like this series. You give a very comprehensive walkthrough of each system. One thing I've noticed is that videos like this always focus on one or two core books. (Which makes sense, the idea is to showcase the game to an audience who may not be familiar with it.) Something I haven't seen anyone do is really dig into the experience that is the late stage OGL. I'm talking a race from a 3rd party campaign setting with a class from one supplement, modified by an archetype from another supplement. See how many books you can reference for a first level character.
    Just a thought. As for a different game to use, Traveller (any version) has a fun character builder.

    I watch this series to get some exposure to games I haven't played before, but I'm going to request Swords & Wizardry. It's what I'm running for my group right now, it's supposed to be a lot like OD&D but not as confusing! Comparing your OD&D video was pretty interesting to my S&W knowledge

    "While they fixed some of the issues of 3.5, they also kept a lot of them [...]" is an interesting way to phrase it. I like many of the little tidying up things PF did to 3.5, like streamlining different modifiers into CMB, or simplifying skills a little, but one of the primary design objectives was to rein in the balance issues of 3.5, and they did that primarily by leaving the strongest classes, primary casters, pretty much where they were, and nerfing the weakest, warrior types, into the ground. In particular the monk, arguably the weakest of the 3.5 core classes (unless you count NPC classes like commoner), was targeted heavily for nerfs, because one of the lead designers hated monks.

    I had a small panic attack when you picked gnome but didn't go for Oracle (Cha based caster) lol. Cool stuff!

    Very helpful video as I'm looking into whether this is something my husband would want to get into.
    For me, coming from 3.5 it looks familiar enough. However for him, coming from Heroquest and D&D boardgames, I fear it's too much tables and calculating for his liking. Character creation itself can take some time, and so does learning the rules.
    Since I learned about rules-light rpgs like Black Sword Hack, Deathbringer and Shadowdark, I doubt even I would want to get back into Pathfinder. I vividly remember all the modifiers, saves, looking up, adding up etc, which for me, being dyslexic- but-with-numbers was a pain.
    I guess my preference has changed now that I know about the choices that are out there.😅

    Im a bit confused...
    Can a witch learn their 2 lvl 1 spells and then cast one of those twice or she can only to cast once both of them?

    • @zigmenthotep
      @zigmenthotep  2 года назад +1

      Witches (along with wizards, clerics, druds, and others) need to prepare each spell slot. So if two different spells are prepared, each of those spells can be cast once. Casting the same spell twice can only be done if prepared in two different spell slots.

    Hey, great video, I'd just like to ask if a negative CON or INT modifier will subtract the final value of your character's evolution, like, a fighter learns (2+INT modifier) skills, if his INT modifier is -1 then he'll learn only 1 skill? And if the character level up, if his CON modifier is negative it'll subtract the Dice value? (If I roll a D8, get a 8, but my CON is -1, I'll get +7 HP ou +8?)

    • @zigmenthotep
      @zigmenthotep  2 года назад

      Yes, but down to a minimum of 1. So if you roll a 1 and have a -2 CON, you still get 1 hit point. I believe damage works the same, minimum of 1 regardless of negative modifiers.

    • @zigmenthotep

    This is what I would play if I had the time. With work, I need something more akin to an OSR. I'm going to go with DCC and live it until I die. Thanks for helping me realize that I don't have the time to memorize the Combat & Skills Chapters of the PHB again as I have in the past, to DM properly.

    This is actually useless to new players who dont understand anything. You made no effort to explain what things were. Just that things get this value. You need to go into way more detail.

    The advanced race guide gives significantly more interesting options for choosing a race and favored class options. Its very disingenuous to just ignore all its options for what is otherwise easily available information on the internet, let alone just getting one additional book.

    Good god thats complicated.

    • @scottdoesntmatter4409
      @scottdoesntmatter4409 Год назад +2

      Nope. I've run so many games that I have it down to a simplistic science. Typically the order of the rulebook is messed up. Really, you want to pick your class, then your race, then roll attributes. Arrange to suit class. Add in your 2 character traits from the APG. Spend your skill points, feats, assign any sort of archetype if you are into that, and spend your first level gold on gear. RPGs are not for the stupid, unlike 5th ed "D&D".
