    Hey Chris
    Really enjoy your training style, energy and the topics you cover. I might try this back button focus option on my X-S10 if it is possible. I have the 16-55mm f/2.8 and agree with you that it is like 4 primes in one lens, I love it. All the best from Sydney, Australia

    Another great video. I really like your 2nd method utilizing the AF-M option as it is so easy to switch back to AF-S and auto focus mode on shutter half press. However I find that I can use the already- assigned AF-On function button rather than having to assign a separate function button as when I press the shutter the Shutter AF automatically has no effect. Certainly that is the case on the X-S10.

    Th AF-ON button in the X-T4 is an ergonomic mistake from Fuji. It was better in the X-T3.

    • @Zelanias
      @Zelanias 2 года назад

      I agree. In my opinion: the only situation where the new placement is better is when I held the camera close to my body with the LCD screen to the side. Then my thumb/hand wasn't as heavily angulated as it would've been if it was located at the same place as XT3 AF-ON.
      But for taking photos with a normal angulation of the hand, which possibly is more frequent. I definitely prefer the XT3.
      I only tried them in the store though.

    Got to this late!! but great video. The newer? 16-80mm is awesome. I have it on one of my Fuji's constantly. Only had it a few months so maybe the newer production is better? I also don't do video so can't comment on that side

  • @marcratner9477
    @marcratner9477 Год назад +2

    I have an X-T4 with the 16-80mm lens. I never zoom during a shot as it looks cheesy to me (like a ‘70s TV show), so any ‘wobble’ is a non-issue. But…the lens is a bit hefty for my taste. I chose FujiFilm/APSC to keep my gear small and light. I hear the 16-55 is a top-notch lens but it’s significantly larger still, so not an option. I might adopt the 18-55 ‘kit’ as a solution for everyday use.

    Nope. Use the half-press to set the foucs and exposeure and then press the AF On button to lock the focus of the AEL for the exposure. Easy to do: Rench (screen 2 on X-T5) AF/AE Lock Mode - On. So whenever you press either the AF of AEL buttons it will "lock" either the focus (AF) OR exposure (AE)

    At 21:19 a Tamron 18-30mm lens is discussed. I did a Google search for this specific lens and got zero hits. Is there such a thing as a Tamron 18-30mm lens, or were you thinking of the Tamron 18-300mm (F3.5-6.3) for Fujifilm X-Mount Cameras? Just wondering!

    Hi Pal,
    I tried your idea to focus with the Lever in M.
    The regular AF-On button is doing the same thing you’re promoting.
    Did I miss something?
    Or is just a preference to have the function on the dial rather than the button next to it?

  • @JoseRuizV

    Hi, I think you don't need to asign the function to any button, but just press the AF lock button while the AF mode select is in Manual. My X-T2 works that way without doing any function assign. At least I can't remember having done it

    Followed instructions and can't get mine to back button focus. Turned on/off, batteries out and back. Not sure if it's because I have the latest firmware.
    Reverting back to default settings, (AF-S on, rear dial back to focus check), only when shooting at Manual focus photo, the AF-L would serve as back button focus.
    Been going through tutorials and it seems that the X-T3 doesn't always activate new settings. I follow tutorials here on RUclips and assign buttons, etc and then use it with fail at times such as this tutorial.
    Later in the day when nothing had changed on my end, the new settings function the way it's programmed.
    My X-T3 appears to be moody.

  • @jonod7913
    @jonod7913 Год назад

    It seems like AF-On in manual focus mode only uses single point AF not zone AF on my XT-3. Is that a limitation of your back button focusing method? On the other hand, it seems like if you leave shutter AF on, you can do BBF in AF-S mode by pressing and holding AF-ON back button and the camera will not re-focus when you half press the shutter button before taking shots. Then you can still have "normal" shutter AF available if you want to give camera to someone else or whatever.

    I put my back button focus on the quick menu button (Q-button), which you tend to always push inadvertently anyhow and put the quick menu on the AF-L, which one cannot reach normally, i.e. just switched their functions. I guess the camera designer wanted this in the first place, and then his boss said no, this would be too easy...

    I love this but wondering if it works the same with Fuji lenses with a clutch? I have the 23 and the 16. So, trying it with my 16 1.4 I have to have the clutch released and the button set to M to actually be in manual mode. At that point I push the AF button (as assigned) and it does not work. I have to lock the clutch again to get the AF to work. Am I doing something wrong or is this just a function of the lenses with the clutch? Thanks!!!!

    Excellent Fuji content on your channel. I own the X S10. The X S10 does not offer the front focus mode dial so 1 option is to activate the Manuel Focus mode and depress the AF ON button to get an auto focus lock. The location of the AF button is perfect for me. Also the rear dial on the XS10 does not activate if you try depressing it…only rotate. In addition I have the red highlight outline of the areas in focus activated, my eyesight is not great ( seriously poor ) so manual focus is too hard for me.
    I like continuous focus ( although I generally I use SF-S ) because it does exhaust the battery faster than it would say on the on X T4.

    The AF-On customization looks like a winner! I sometimes have conflicts between where I want to focus on and which part of the scene I want to expose for (I am usually on aperture priority mode). This trick should make it easier to fix that. As for the 16-55mm lens, it is a great lens for sure. I just wish it were a big smaller and lighter, because it's a bit of a beast.
